Vladimir Kirov
Character
As [member="Thurion Heavenshield"] and [member="Connor Harrison"] guided their teams into the left flank of the mercenaries the group started to collapse upon itself, mostly organized with few actually running from the battle. Even though they were the enemy and they were trying to kill his fellow soldiers Vladimir had to respect them for their organization, they were disciplined and well trained, not something you expected from your average mercenary. They were retreating towards the center as there was only the flames of their destroyed artillery to retreat to behind them. It was exactly what he wanted, especially now that the artillery was setup behind them.
They had not yet fired their massive cannons on the enemy lines preparing for a massive barrage that Vladimir had planned once he had the mercenaries bunched up more. The right flank of Rangers wasn’t able to push the enemy in as the Jedi had managed on the left flank but that was ok, he didn’t want to kill them all, he just wanted to force a mass surrender under ideal conditions, at the very least looking for a distraction so they could close the distance on the enemy line so they could get more accurate shots, as it was they were operating just inside the maximum range of most of the blaster carbines they were using and every time they attempted to close that distance the mercenaries punished them for it with their heavy weapons emplacements. That was the benefit of being the defenders.
Looking up over his cover and snapping off a few shots at the enemy who tried to do the same across on their side of things. He noted how quickly things had gone from a once idyllic beach setting to a battered and beaten battlefield. It was a shame to see such destruction but he would rather that than see more Rangers lose their lives then was absolutely necessary, his own squad had suffered a few losses, now was not the time to grieve for them however they all had a job to do. He glanced over his shoulder at the makeshift medical triage center that had formed behind their line and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they had to push forward and soon, give the medics the room to do their job and ultimately save more lives.
“Artillery command, we need a rolling barrage, I am marking coordinates for the start and stop points, I am going to order an advance behind the barrage so keep it tight.” Vladimir requested as he transmitted the coordinates he was marking with his macrobinoculars.
“Understood and prepared, give us a minute to set the coordinates.” The commander of the artillery responded professionally.
Looking down the line Vladimir ducked down again as the enemy started to pour fire on his cover. He set his comm to broadcast to every Ranger along the front. “Time to push an advance, wait for the artillery before we move we will be advancing behind it. Fire will be danger close so don’t advance too quickly.”
The artillery barrage started and Vladimir was first out of cover. “Move it out, keep behind the artillery fire. No doubt you will come across injured mercenaries along the route as we push inland, disarm them and mark their location for the medics. The same applies for anyone who chooses to surrender.”
Moving swiftly through the haze generated by the artillery barrage Vladimir and what was left of his squad came across a whole foxhole full of injured and surrendering mercs who had been trapped under the rolling barrage a hundred and a half meters away from their original location. He signalled they should be disarmed and his squad should set up shop here. They were closer to the enemy line as the mercenaries had not retreated far taking cover further inland out of the way of the Silver Jedi artillery barrage that had ceased for now.
