Vulpesen nodded and closed his eyes, falling into his old days of meditation. Once again, he let his mind branch out around him, touching every nearby life before he could move on. Fur, black as night. A heart strong enough to carry its rider through the toughest of battles. Each tail swayed in his mind as the sight of a Veran fox formed in his mind's eye. Not months, but now, years of him riding this creature through the forest, feeding it, tending to it. He'd created a bond with them, so strong that it rivaled even that of his stable master. On some nights he had snuck out to sleep in the bar, simply to feel at home among the beating hearts of the beasts.
Once he had gained his concentration, it would not be long for him to have the image emblazoned on his consciousness. And once he saw it, he did not chase it. He did not attack it. he knew the fox well enough. Strong, mighty, proud, but loyal. He simply reached out his hand and called for it. It would follow. he knew it would. Powerful but faithful, that was why his people had bonded so well with them.
