Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

[member="Claire Ouron"] I think James Cameron has two or three sequels in the works for 'Avatar', but like you say [member="Valiens Nantaris"] I think the hype for the original film has rapidly cooled, and the novelty of the 3D event has been done to death now by every other big blockbuster that it will offer nothing special, and it's certainly not a "franchise" to compete with something like Star Wars now, or anything from Marvel and DC.

IMO anyway.

From a business perspective, I think that this is a very smart move, and it gives them much more time to polish the finished product. However as a fan I think this is a terrible idea. The first reason being I don't want to wait an extra 7 months for the next movie, and the second being that I like my Star Wars releases in May. It would have been right in time for my birthday. While I am excited for Rogue One I feel like it serves as more of a quiet, nonessential diversion for fans. Much like Star Wars Rebels felt for the Force Awakens to me.

Looking at the current slate, I think 'EpVIII' has done a wise move to give a little more time to polish the script and avoid the usual summer madness. After all, it wants to make as much money and effective marketing push as possible.

Currently between April and June 2017 we have:

- Pirates Of The Caribbean 5
- Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
- The Mummy
- Despicable Me 3
- Cars 3
- Wonder Woman

.... and Baywatch.

So December currently is looking far better.

I dont care who the cast is or any of that other stuff. I just want a sequel like Empire Strikes Back, in which the characters are pushed to their limits and the antagonists become more powerful and it seems like they start treading down the path that leads them to their victory. Kylo Ren should be far more powerful, Phasma should live up to her hype, Snoke can be more sinister, Rey can not be a Skywalker ressurection (please), Finn gets called Traitor some more, etc.

No matter what happens, ill probably still love it and will never not hype it

Good job they moved, because no Jedi can stand up against the Rock.

Originally I was really excited for a May release because it would be THE SAME MONTH I FRICKIN' GRADUATE DENTAL HYGIENE SCHOOL (hopefully :p) and I could spend the whole month alternately crying with joy, drinking, and watching a new Star Wars movie. Some of those things could also be combined. Maybe all of them.

But at the end of the day, I am TOTALLY okay with waiting until December both as a marketing move, and because it means more time with the fun of anticipation and speculation and enjoying a new era of my favorite galaxy far, far away with my friends who love it too. MORE TIME TO BE HYPE!

As far as new cast, bring it on, as long as they don't overshadow the ones we've been introduced to. It is SO about Rey, Kylo, Finn, Poe, BB-8, and all our newbies for me now, that I am a little scared of them trying to introduce anyone who's a main to compete. But I have faith, and the proposed casting looks bomb so far.

Now they just need to recast for Han Solo spin-off to someone who doesn't look like an actual child, and I'll be happy.

Well I think it's 99% confirmed Benicio del Toro is in as a new villain, and Gwendoline Christie is back as Captain Phasma. No word on if General Hux is back.

And the latest is Ewan McGregor is in talks to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi...which I think is wonderful as he was a brilliant link between new and old.

That's what I worried about - I mean, we've got a whole new cast ready to continue their journey with us!

But I guess, like Yoda and Lando and even Boba Fett in 'TESB', as well as new Imperials and Rebel characters, we are going to need a few new faces to add some new twists and turns to things.

If they do add another character to the group i really hope she is an alien of some sort.
They have created so many interesting species that it's a shame the cast is all human.

I know we have Chewie but i can see him having less and less time with the group as the films go on.

I know Phasma was touched on earlier but there is a theory going around that she will be a Chiss.

[member="Nara Basaar"] A Chiss? I can dig that - would be very cool to see one on screen, certainly one like Phasma behind the mask.

I have this feeling she'll play a Resistance Leader, or some Republic ally to the cause.
