Suggestion: Raise Personal Ship limits to 500m

We had this suggested posted, and I wanted to know what everyone thought of it.

I have a suggestion: raise the maximum size of ship a player can personally own to 500m. Under the current rules, the maximum length of ship a player can personally own is 400m, which would render some heavy frigate-sized non-combat ship classes, like the canonical Baleen, off-limits for players to own personally.

400m is not the limit between frigate and cruiser, whereas 500m is. I understand that past 500m, the upkeep of cruisers is going to be a little much for characters to handle on their own, and most characters would go bankrupt if they tried to cover the upkeep of a cruiser.

I wouldn't object to moving the limit to 500 meters, though I don't really see how this would majorly effect things for better or worse.

I think that the issue we're talking about is how size and power/cost relate to each other. They're not always easily correlated.

I almost wonder if it would be better if we split the personal ship size limits like we do with corporation owned vessels, with a separate military and civilian limits.

Such a system could allow people to use larger civilian ships like luxury liners, bulk freighters, and so forth without the problem of random PCs showing up with large, combat-oriented starships like star destroyers.

It would make it so a full sized frigate can be utilized since frigates go up to 500 meters. BUt also, anyone can just make their own minor factions and get a 1km ship so ..... I do not see why not.

I am fine with increasing the size to 500 meters. It's not drastic enough to change anything critical.

I'd also be open to discussing splitting civilian and military vessels if that's something open for debate.

It isn't really a concern. I just don't feel there is a need to change the ship size, and that 400 meters is perfectly large enough. But if I'm in the minority on this, then it's fine.

But the more I think about it, upping the limit to 500 meters would be a lot simpler.

Keep in mind, guys, as per the template you can sub a cruiser at 500m. That opens a few pretty big doors. I'm not necessarily against it, but a 500m cruiser can potentially be a LOT nastier than a 400m frigate. Whether that's a door you want to open is up to you.

A valid point. Unless we want to change the template to read 501meters for a cruiser on the template.

Or make it 499meters for personal ship.

Or keep it the same.

1. An individual character may not own a ship not exceeding a 500 meter frigate in length. Ships over 500 meters must be owned by a Faction (Major or Minor) or Company, and may be captained by the character, but in case of leaving will not go with them without exceptional circumstances and faction administrator approval.
Changes in green. Would this resolve that issue?
