Teachings of the Blind Seer

Cassia’s eyes grew wide when Lavania told her to wash the rancor, while she didn’t object; it was obvious that the mere thought was daunting. A smile found her face and she let out the breath she’d been holding as she learned that it had just been a joke. She felt sweet relief wash over her and Cassia moved inside as she had been instructed. Cassia’s gaze was fixed upon the various herbs that Lavania pulled from her satchel and set down on the table. She watched intently as her master began to add a selection of dried grasses and other flora into her bowl. “What are we making?” She asked, turning eagerly to Lavania.

Her fingers hovered over each herb for a moment, before she grasped a few pieces of dried grass and set them in the bowl in front of her. She studied the leaves on the table and carefully selected the same ingredients that she’d seen her master use. Cassia drew up a piece of stone and began to slowly grind the herbs, moving her wrist in tight circular motions. The sound of the herbs being reduced to powder was quite soothing, almost hypnotic in a way, and she continued working with a soft smile on her face. Once her hebs had been transformed into a fine powder, she slid her bowl towards Lavania for inspection. “Does it look okay?”

The seer looked at the girl when she asked how it looked and she was almost blinking under the sash for a moment taking it in. "I... I do not know." She reached out her hand feeling the bowl and the powder as she rubbed it between her fingers and it clung there for a moment. Lavania slowly brought the bladder over to her hand. "Do you believe it is ready?" She said it while holding the bladder of ichor over it and dumping it in while she let the water slosh and mix together while the green mist crackled and popped a little with it. "The magics are good but you have to be able to see the force. This will help you." She presented the bowl of ichor. "Drink it down and hold onto your staff, you're going on a vision quest to see what I should teach you best."

Cassia made a face when she realized that Lavania couldn’t provide a visual assessment of her potion, she was just thankful that her master hadn’t taken offense. She watched as Lavania mixed the ichor into the bowl of herbs and looked down at the liquid when told to drink it. Cassia took up the bowl held it up to her mouth, it smelled slightly medicinal. She reached over and gripped her staff with her free hand and then took a sip of the potion. The taste was pleasant, almost sweet, so she downed the rest of the liquid and sat down. Her breaths came slow and steady; she was starting to feel dizzy, almost as if she were swaying back and forth. Darkness was washing over her, drawing her deep into a trance like state.

Suddenly she was back in the clearing outside the shack, the ground seemed unsteady, and everything had a hazy overcast. She was moving through the mists, she could feel the force all around her. Her gaze turned back down to her hands, there was something different. Cassia reached out with the force, it was simple, like an extension of herself. She extended herself through the force and let it take control of her. A moment later stumps began to lift from the ground, sticks, leaves and other forest debris took flight and began to move around her in a circle. The force was swirling around her, much like a forceful whirlwind.

Cassia’s blue eyes shot open, she was back in the shack with Lavania. Her vision was blurry for a moment, but everything came back into focus. Her vision lingered in her mind, but was already starting to fade like a distant dream. “I was in the clearing… I was moving objects with my mind!” She exclaimed, as she let the information she’d seen set in. “I could make them move all around me with the force, like a storm.” She said, looking to her master for an interpretation.

Lavania looked at the girl as she was laying on the ground with a small smirk. Her hands reaching out while she found a seat and kept on her for the several hours letting the visions come to the girl. She could even hear he sounds and see some of the movements in the force before the girl was awake and she was up. Lavania looked upon her as she was sitting there and listened to what the girl was seeing with the force vision. Not always something fun but she held a very large grin on her face as she spoke. "Then we know where to start with your training, I suggest you rest and prepare yourself. Tomorrow you are going to start training with the magics and with the force." There was a look for a moment while she walked towards the bed in the corner and laid down resting on hand behind her head.

She listened to Lavania’s advice and nodded, though her head was still spinning from the force vision. Cassia moved over to a small bed on the opposite side of the room and climbed in. After such a long day it felt wonderful to rest. “Good night, Master.” She said softly, looking over towards Lavania for a moment before letting her head hit the pillow. The feeling of the force around her, she’d never felt it so strong or distinct before. Now it felt attainable, she knew that she just needed to practice and hone her skills. Though she was very tired, her mind was still buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The next day would prove to be a new experience, and she was looking forward to learning more about magic. Cassia drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to let her mind become quiet.

At last the worn out witch let herself fall into a deep sleep, though the images of the force vision still haunted her dreams.

Lavania was sleeping and she had removed her sash when she felt the girl go to sleep, she tossed and turned a little. It was natural she was close to another person and picked up on their thoughts, their mind working and an excited apprentice was something she wasn't used to. Her brow was covered in sweat in the morning when she woke up and felt the first stirrings of energy in the morning while she rose and slipped away. Her staff in her hand and heading down to the small river to bathe and relax for a little bit while she ducked her head under and sat there feeling the large surge of chilled water rolling across her. The small current that felt soothing on the fresh tattoos that were healed mostly but there was still some of it the force and ichor hadn't healed. Slowly now though she came out of the wter and ran her hands through her hair slicking the blonde hair back. She wasn't certain what her apprentice would do but she was down here with her bladder of ichor fo spells and her staff was on the shore.

Cassia awoke slowly, eyes blinking open in the early morning light. She had slept hard, but had very vivid dreams all through the night. Some of which had been a bit troubling, most likely an after effect of the force vision. The teen sat up and took a deep breath, trying to get the weary fatigue to leave her mind. Her gaze drifted over to Lavania’s bed and she saw that it was currently empty. She stood up and walked over to the table, she had a quick drink of water before gathering up her ichor and staff. Cassia wasn’t sure exactly when her next lessons would begin, but she wanted to be ready to go. With slow steps she walked out of the shack and into the fresh morning air, it was a bit chilly, but not too cold. She let her eyes take in the lovely sight of the mountains, it was very refreshing and she felt her mind waking up.

She looked around a bit, but didn’t see Lavania up near the shack, and figured that she had gone out for a bit. Perhaps a quick walk about would do her some good as well. Cassia set off at a brisk pace, ichor in one hand and staff in the other. Soon she saw the figure of her master down by the river. “Good morning, Master.” Cassia called. “Would you like me to wait for you back at the shack?” She asked, not wanting to rush Lavania, if she was taking some time to relax.

Lavania felt her apprentice as she stood there in the water, coming from the nightsisters and an all woman village with little slaves while she was looking at her in the force without her sash. She didn't cover up but she walked out of the water standing there as she looked at her apprentice pulling her staff to her hands. "We'll begin now." She walked and felt the small breeze of air across her skin as goosebumps appeared and she spoke. "Come here and listen." She held her hands towards the water while reaching out and pulling at it with the force. "The force is in all things and you can manipulate it, you can use it to your advantage such as here to form the water into tiny spheres to throw at people."

Cassia nodded and walked over to the river bank and came to stand near Lavania. She listened as her master explained the force, and she watched as Lavania’s hands reached out towards the water. While the teen had been aware of the force, she had yet to attempt to manipulate it. She mirrored the movement of her master and outstretched her hands. The river continued to flow in front of her, and she concentrated on trying to pull up a sphere of water. It was easier said than done. Cassia frowned slightly at her failed attempt but drew in a deep breath and closed her eyes.

She reached out with the force, and a gentle spray of water began to lift from the surface of the river, collecting in the air just above her palms. Cassia opened her eyes and smiled, while she hadn’t been able to form a complete sphere, she was feeling good about her first attempt. She let the water fall back into the river and looked to Lavania. “I guess I need to practice more, but it’s a start!” She smiled.

Lavania was looking at the girl as she did it mostly. You couldn't be expected to get it right in the first go and as she was standing there watching it took everything in her not to move and get some clothing on. She was watching to see how well she could do it and when the girl lost it and spoke Lavania smiled though. She was looking at her and moved over to her stuff as she slid her sash onto her eyes and got into the boots and skirt. "It is alright, one cannot expect to be good at the beginning. You will have to work on it but also work on your spells and we will start on that." She grabbed her staff and her bladder was on her hip while she was walking towards the mountain near the river she was just in. Lavania poured a little of the water out as she was focusing on her hands and gripped the wall pulling herself up. "Focus on making your grip so power that it cannot be broken and you can ascend the wall."

Cassia turned away slightly to allow Lavania some privacy as she dressed again and she took a few steps away, her gaze focusing on the flowing water. She could foresee many hours practicing in her future; she would find time later to return to the river. The teen felt a jolt of excitement shoot through her when Lavania mentioned that they would be working on spells. She turned and followed as Lavania approached a wall, and then began to climb up, seemingly with little effort. Cassia listened to the instructions provided by her master and she approached the wall, reaching up to touch the worn surface. “Yes, master. I’ll give it a try.”

It did seem impossible; there was nothing to grasp hold of, but she closed her eyes for a moment and concentrated on her hands. She let her mind focus in on her grip, and as she touched the wall, she felt her hands catch hold of the wall. Very slowly she started to climb up; every so often she started to lose her grip, and had to concentrate to regain it. She reached the top of the wall and began to make her way over the other side. She was amazed, and feeling quite good about her self at the moment. Though, she knew that this was likely to be a difficult road ahead.

Lavania was looking at her as she climbed up and focused ready to pull at her with the force if she was going to fall to hard. She was waiting until the girl got up there with her and she patted her back with a smile on her face. "You alright?" She said it while sitting there and looking out on the mountain range and river, then beyond to the villages with the other clans. "Come sit, the next lesson will be a lot easier... for the most part." she said it with a grin on her face though while setting her staff down next to her. "We're going to let you catch your breath because your going to combine the force and spells to preform this."

Cassia had a seat by Lavania, she was breathing hard and had beads of sweat on her brow from the work it had taken to concentrate and climb. “I’m okay.” She nodded, trying to reassure her master. After a few moments of deep breathing she was feeling better. Cassia was starting to realize that along with her practice of the force and spells, she would definitely need to do some physical training as well. It would do her well to improve both her mind and body. Cassia listened as Lavania informed her that she would be combing the force and spells with her next task. The student took in a few more breaths, letting herself relax and then turned to Lavania.

“What do I need to do?” She asked, ready to take on the next part of the lesson.

Lavania looked at her as she pointed to the side. The ground gave way to a gap reaching across the river to the other side and it was just out of reach. "You will work to combine the speed spell with a force jump to leap the gap. You cannot do it separate." Well you could but for an apprentice starting out it wasn't something you could do easily. Lavania rose up as she held the cap of her bladder and with the ichor was rubbing it over her legs. "The speed of the Toocha is a simple enough spell but if you are not careful you could end up in the river below. As you approach the edge push the force into your limbs and leap into the air. Your knees will be able to absorb the impact and protect you." She moved demonstrating and as her speed increased she lept having her staff on her back as she came down on the ground on the other side."

Cassia looked down at the ground on the other side of the river, there was quite a gap to close, if she was going to make. She listened carefully to Lavania’s instructions and watched as her master rubbed a bit of the ichor over her legs. Cassia followed suit and poured a bit of her ichor onto her palms, then she proceeded to spread it over her legs. A curious tingling sensation filled her legs and she stood up, moving along the wall for a moment with swiftness like she’d never experienced before. Standing on the edge she concentrated on pushing the force into her limbs and she leapt from the wall, pushing off with the balls of her feet. Her heart skipped a beat as she was sent into the air, and before she knew it she was on the ground. Cassia turned slowly, she was on the bank just on the other side of the river, she’d come close to landing in the water.

“Wow.” She said, still slightly shocked at what she’d just accomplished.

Lavania was watching the girl and how she preformed as she was standing there a moment. Unable to see her jump but she could see the movement with the force in her body then her aura before it was coming towards her and she stepped t the side. A smile on her face while she brought her staff from her back to her hand before offering her hand and starting to walk towards the larger parts of the mountain range. "Very good." She was moving and offering her arm for a moment. "Come we'll be in the mountains most of the day and you'll need all of your energy... but first." Lavania used her staff to prick her finger as she was focusing on the energies. "In case you get lost, do as I do." She held her finger placing it on her arm while exposing and letting her take hers. "Focus on the blood, forcus your energy and bind it to you. The droplet will allow you to find me should you get lost."

Cassia accepted Lavania’s assistance to re-gain her footing, and held on to her arm for a few steps as they moved deeper into the woods. She watched as Lavania pricked her finger with her staff, and she saw a droplet of crimson form on her fingertip. When instructed to do the same, Cassia too drew blood with her staff and mirrored her master’s actions, touching her finger to Lavania’s arm. She watched as Lavania withdrew her hand, leaving behind a small spot of blood. Cassia closed her eyes and began to concentrate and focus her energy on the blood. She let herself feel as though it was becoming a part of her, and soon she felt her master’s presence in a brand new way.

“I’m ready now.” Cassia said smiling. “I’ll try my best not to get lost, but I’m glad I’ll be able to find you if it does happen.” Traveling through the wilderness could always be a bit unpredictable after all.

Lavania looked at her student and nodded her head to that. She knew the mountains could lead to many things and had drifted off to get lost on her own. Slowly now though as she could feel the blood trail that would be able to lead them to each other while she started into the hills. The feeling of the grass on her legs while she was walking through it and her staff touched the ground. The smell of grass and fields of flowers coming while they were walking on the breeze. Lavania continued to head up towards the higher points and there were fields of creatures. "Use your magics here, to increase your senses. Smell the different flower, hear the wind as it goes through the grass."

Cassia continued to walk alongside Lavania and let her eyes take in the beautiful mountain range. She was growing increasingly aware of the sounds around her, and she let them take over for a moment, becoming completely immersed. It was both relaxing and slightly unsettling at the same time. She realized that she was standing still, and she could feel the tug of Lavania’s presence nearby. Looking up she could see her master, not too far ahead. Cassia’s pace sped up swiftly, until she was once again at Lavania’s side.

She listened to the instructions provided, and she nodded. Drawing in a deep breath, she closed her eyes and began to reach out with the force, letting it wash over her and out into the wilderness. If she turned her head in any direction, there was something new to be discovered; a fragrant herb, the sound of water, the feeling of the cool mists that settled near the forest floor. Though, if she wasn’t careful, she could feel a great flood of sensory information rushing to her. Cassia’s eyes opened quickly, and she took in a couple of deep breaths. “It’s so amazing how nature can speak to us.” She said, almost feeling out of breath. “But it is overwhelming”.

Lavania continued to walk while Cassia was doing her spells. The feelings and sensations were there as she stopped a little ways and was standing in a footprint that wasn't a rancor as she was feeling the dirt between her fingers. "It can be but you will learn to control it in time. Your senses just need to be trained to listen, smell, see and taste. The touch of everythign can also become great you are feeling for every sensation." She stayed there for a time and was feeling the dirt before tasting it and speaking. "Like this, there is a creature on this world from older stories I got to gleam helping some jedi. it is supposed to be from legend but it has also appeared on a few worlds. I am trying to find it."
