Tephrike

Had an idea regarding Kyrric.

If we're basing his background on that of Legends Obi-Wan to a degree, maybe there was a Xanatos figure, too.

Failed Padawan of Mahtara. Though I'm inclined to make the situation that causes the betrayal less black and white because this is Tephrike.

Would be interesting if the failed padawan fell to the Light rather than the Dark, and came to see the Dominion for what it was. Sadly alone they could not bring down the corrupt edifice. I'm picturing a bad end, perhaps Kyrric even kills them.

1. Any thoughts for what the family background of Cataphract chick could have been?

So far we established that she grew up poor/lowborn and presumably joined a sellsword company to escape that. But any specifics?

2. So I had a look at Lacy's profile. According to it, her conventional skills are ranged combat, piloting, brawling and tech/mechanics. Inclined to say that if she's still an FU, she should have Force powers that support her conventional skills.

Could be a change from all the elementalists, TK specialists, mages and so on.

3. I have been considering developing Gehenna by setting up an outpost there. Part small scale diamond mining because apparently the planet has diamonds, part Force training facility.

Maybe for Libertas or Enyo or even both.

4. So regarding the Shadow Courts, if a Magister misuses their authority or brings the office into disrepute, the Archon can remove them?

The Shadows grant their constituent groups on lower levels a good deal of autonomy, but the centre is quite authoritarian.

Think we need to clarify what powers the Courts have and what authority the central leadership has over them. Especially when it comes to groups like the Court of War and other bodies that deal with military matters. Fractures could get quite dangerous in a nomad fleet.

Ideas for Tephrike locations:

  • Town controlled by the Vaderites. Used to be racially mixed or perhaps alien dominated, but Vaderites conducted ethnic cleansings. The few aliens left are slaves. Full-on nazi town, with a place for Nuremberg style rallies, offices of the Department of Racial Hygiene, a museum where people are taught that Twi'leks have worms growing out of their heads and that the inferority of aliens can be determined by the shape of their skulls, plus a Vader Temple and a Sith Academy. Also an absurdly massive Vader statue. Aliens live in deplorable conditions, while humans get the best housing, though this does not mean much. There is no social safety net because the Vaderites think social security is wrong. There is a slave market and an arena. And there's a school named after a kid who was so indoctrinated that he volunteered to be 'euthanised' after realising that he is 'genetically defective'.
  • Fortress Purity: Under new management.
  • A town in one of the liberated zones controlled by the Republican Guard.
  • Military base of the BM. Maybe a final redoubt type thing. Very heavily defended.

Idea for a Vaderite town:

Schwarze Grube (German for Black Pit). Located in a canyon.

Points of interest include:
  • Slaves labour camp for mine labourers.
  • Has a place for Nuremberg style Sith party rallies and parades.
  • 'National history museum' where people are taught that Twi'leks have worms growing out of their heads, Wokiees eat human flesh, Zeltrons are sexual predators, and that the inferiority of aliens can be determined by the shape of their skulls.
  • Absurdly huge Vader statue. A TIE fighter that is supposed to have belonged to Vader is also on display.
  • Office of the Department of Racial Hygiene. Here people must get certificates proving their pure human ancestry. Also responsible for sterilising/eliminating the 'inferior'.
  • A high school named after a young boy who was so indoctrinated that he turned himself in for 'euthanasia' after realising he has a genetic defect.
  • Vader Temple. Here people go to pray to God Vader.
  • Slave market.
  • Arena where gladiators fight to the death. Not all are slaves. Some make a career out of it - if they live long enough.
  • Some sort of factory. Maybe owned by a private business that runs on slave labour. Name suggestion?Preferrably a parody of Ford, IG Farben or Krupp. Admittedly we can mock more than one.
  • Warsaw type ghetto for near-humans (species that are very closely related biologically to baseline humans). Terrible conditions - poor sanitation, live in poverty. Often subjected to police raids. Nominally run by a local council. Inhabitants are forced to serve as forced labourers. Vaderite propaganda uses the poor conditions there as 'proof' that only pure humans can govern themselves.
  • Secret police headquarters.
Oppression: Extremely high. Many rivalries between the Sith bigwigs.

Economy: The Dominion (theoretically) has a welfare state, but the Vaderites do not even pretend to have a social safety net. In their world view, the strong thrive, the weak must serve. If you fall through the cracks, that proves your weakness. Many of the menial jobs are done by aliens. Slavery is legal and debtors can be sold into slavery. Factory owners can treat their workers like crap, but they in turn have no legal protection against their Sith masters.

History: Uncertain.

Should the town have existed before everything went to chit on Tephrike or make it something the Vaderites built? Could have also once been a Dominion or Republican Guard town.

If it's something they took over, perhaps it used to be a racially diverse place (and presumably had a different name). But the Vaderites Nazified it.
