The Game is Afoot (FWC, SJO)

Location: Porus Vida

A secret meeting at the Museum of Art. Claire Organa of the Royal House of Organa stood staring at a painting that an artist had recently completed and now showed. The curator had sent many invitations out inviting nobles, supporters, and artists to come and view the new works on display it seemed the best cover for the meeting arranged by Faith earlier.

Claire had fussed about the meeting she admitted defeat when reminded of the lack of progress. The Silver Jedi were notified when to come, where to come, who to look for and one other small detail. They were asked to dress casually to hide their association with their Order to prevent prying eyes from asking questions that no one wanted to answer. Claire kept her mind busy as she contemplated the painting.

How many words could describe it?

Was there a play of light and dark?

What did the Artist intend?

She loved the play on colors how the melded together to draw her in. She could feel the movement of the artists brush as he swept each stroke across the canvas. The layers and layers of paint adding the depth of color and transitions from one to the other. She had not played with such colors since the water dress for Marzena. She wondered how her friend was and if she would see her again.

What would they talk of? Claire shrugged her shoulders she didn't know for much had not changed. Well the attempted kidnapping, Tori still missing or was she captive? Feth it was overwhelming. She sighed looking down pretending to look at some detail in the corner but in truth her heart hurt her greatest fear was regarding Tori. Her only sister, her last remaining immediate family.

Claire steadied herself and moved to the next painting hoping for something with flowers and sunshine, simple and less thought provoking.

Recently I'd been appointed leader of the enigmatic and secretive side branch of the Jedi Order. The Silver Shadows, while I'd been sure of my own skills as a smuggler, assassin, vigilante and more I still wasn't sure I was the right person to be leading anyone. The Grandmaster had placed her faith and support in me and I'd accepted the role. Now I was attending a secret meeting on the world of Porus Vida. Known for museums and culture...just another layer to hide behind for politicians and their assassins. I'd arrived several hours ago and had been in the process of figuring out what gear to bring when I'd gotten a message to dress casually so as not to draw attention to our Order. So now I began stripping off the breastplate of my armor and instead pulled on a charcoal grey shirt and strapped on an Echani combat vest I'd installed magnetic hard points on. Ejecting the plates of beskar over my legs and waist I slipped my illegally modded DC-15s blaster pistols into upper thigh plates. Making sure my Beskar hidden blade gauntlet was working I triggered the blades then reset them as I went through checking over the rest of my weapons.

Strapping a container of sand to my belt I grabbed my sword and tied it securely to my left hip as I locked my sabers along the sides of my ribs. Grabbing a hooded split tail cloak I Pulled it on and descended the ramp of The Dauntless waving it back shut as I headed towards this secret meeting....

A secret meeting in the midst of an art exhibit. At first thought, it seemed counter-intuitive, but there was an advantage to such an overt rendezvous. Surveillance and bugging were difficult in a public environment, as was violence. Though eavesdropping by passersby was always a risk.

Jyoti would be one of the Shadows to answer Claire Organa's call, quietly meandering through the crowds of socialites and art connoisseurs. She blended right in with her informal wear for the night, nothing about her appearance to suggest she was a Jedi. The striking looks of the Echani might garner some attention, but then all Echani were beautiful and so similar in appearance that they could all pass as each other's relatives with ease.

As she has done away with her usual Jedi robes for the night, she had instructed Epistor to do the same so that they may both hide in plain sight under the cover of fineries.

She gradually worked her way through the large museum until she arrived at the agreed upon rendezvous point. There she found Claire Organa, standing by herself studying a painting. A cloud of dread hung over the noble, Jyoti could feel. Unsurprising to the Jedi, who imagined that Claire's thoughts were likely consumed by her ongoing personal crisis, the catalyst for their meeting tonight.

"Good evening, Your Grace," she said as came up to the left side of Claire. "Quite a few interesting works on display tonight."

She made small talk while she waited for her counterparts to trickle inside by their own methods, then the more serious discussion could begin.

Objective: Investigate stolen art

Porus Vida.

This world was full of beautifully manicured gardens and art museums aplently. There was quite a lot of culture here, and there was also quite a lot of high art. Liuna just didn’t think this place was her style. Even though she was now setting foot into one of the many galleries, she wasn’t here for sight-seeing.

The Silver Shadow had a job to do.

It seemed that there had been a string of thefts in the area. Liuna was here to take a look at one of the first galleries had had been it by the art thief. Today, the Mirialan had chosen to disguise her appearance with the help of her Eclipse ring. Her skin was colored a neutral olive hue, and her facial tattoos were nowhere to be seen. With this appearance and outfit, she fit in fairly well here.

At the moment, the gallery didn’t seem to be bustling with visitors, but there were still people wandering about. The interior of the gallery featured clean white walls and floors to match. As her eyes turned up to the ceiling, there was a sprinkling of natural light, supplemented by some gallery lights. Liuna did draw some glances, as her eyes seemed to be focused everywhere… except for the actual art.

As she continued to move through the gallery space, she did take a moment to pause next to a large painting. The colors were interesting; it had that going for it. But really, had the artist simply thrown buckets of paint onto a blank canvas? Her brows rose as she considered the art. Maybe she’d gotten into the wrong business.

Epistor was still striving to understand much--both of the ways of a Jedi Shadow and of the inter-workings of the larger galaxy. Hailing from the very isolated, very sparsely-populated world that was Sargus Novis served to do her very little favors. It, to no real fault of its own, had not prepared her for any of this, namely her sudden recruitment by the Silver Order and subsequent plunge into the unknown.

It was a relief in and of itself that she had been quick to learn Galactic Standard Basic even though her native tongue could not have been much more different.

But on of the many things she still had to learn was the general art of subtly; her chosen outfit for today's mission was a suspicious, modern look-alike to her tunic-armor. However, it probably would not cause issue now. She was still a fresh face in the Order, and few outside of it, excepting her people of course, had looked upon her in her native garb. But when she grew to be more widely-known, such a slip up might call curious eyes and hostility.

She followed after her master, [member="Jyoti Nooran"], through the crowd, careful not to get close enough to suggest the two's affiliation to onlookers. When they reached the [member="Claire Organa"], Epistor stood a few steps back, behind the Echani. After all, her learned treatment of royals on her planet tended to be very flamboyant, a display no one needed under these circumstances.

Cassius Droma wasn’t exactly sure what “dress casual” meant, but he figured it approximated to “don’t dress like a Jedi”. Then again, seeing as how his casual wear was a dark green jumpsuit and a jacket, and how he was going to a world like Porus Vida, he suspected casual was a little more uppity than he was used to. So, he had on black slacks, a white shirt, and a black leather jacket as he pretended to peruse the art in the museum. His lightsaber was tucked away at the small of his back, under his jacket.

As an archaeologist and anthropologist, Cassius actually did have a passing interest in art, as sometimes it offered a window through an artist’s eyes in a historical context. Sometimes, it looked like pure garbage. Either way, Cassius was more or less casing the building in order to make sure no one of malicious intent would eavesdrop on the conversation the Shadows were going to have.

He’d been hanging around the room where Claire Organa had been surveying the art for roughly half an hour, but once he saw Jyoti and her new apprentice approach Organa, he knew it would be time to step in. His gaze was transfixed on the painting they were standing in front of as he casually stepped next to them, as if the art was the reason for him standing there.

“Always makes me feel a little melancholy,” Cassius uttered in mock response to Jyoti’s statement, squinting at it. “Grand old warship, being hauled away for scrap.” He’d let Jyoti take the lead in terms of when the conversation would turn serious. He was here for one thing: his psychometric abilities. They were useful in many regards, including tracking down assassins if they left behind evidence.

Claire glanced over to the young woman joining her, "Yes we are hoping to have a couple of the Alderaan Artists exhibit here soon." She finally let out the breath she had been holding.

The hair on her arm stood up slowly she turned realizing she had gone from being alone and admiring the works to being surrounded. "Art some artists you get right others grow on you, and some you just learn to avoid." What was she to say to them, how to start, where to start.

She half smiled at them all, "I'm Claire. I'm glad you could all meet me here to discuss the upcoming Artists showing." She would try to keep to the script that had been set up, "They've set aside a conference room for us to use." Her words were slow as she kept collected. She exhaled again, she did not know how many they were sending and she didn't know if this was everyone.

Claire remembered what Faith had said they were Jedi going to help investigate. Faith had originally asked for a protector, someone to accompany Claire on her missions. It was during that discussion that their Grandmaster offered to look closer. "If this is everyone we can adjourn to the conference room" She looked from face to face, "is this everyone?"

Moving in along with the other people some of whom I noticed from their association with the Shadows I triggered a small holo-projector on my left forearm hiding my actual appearance of the combat vest and sword on my belt. I'd appear to be simply in a rugged leather jacket and dark jeans. I heard the voice of a young woman I'd rescued and whom I still owed service to...Claire Organa. I wondered when it was I'd see her again and now here she was.... She had asked if it was everyone here. "M'lady I believe it is everyone at this time." Odds were Claire would recognize my voice too... I still was vastly interested in her but for now I was here as a Shadow and with the intent of finding out who was targeting her. I had made her a promise and I intended to fulfill it...

Tana was late, very late, perhaps it was the whole dress casual thing that had taken up a lot of time, having been on Atrisia for so long had become slightly used to the process of taking about an hour to get ready with all the royal ornamentation and accessories, so he had kind of overdone thing when getting ready. When time got away, the young Jin just simple slapped on his old sailor suit like outfit, putting his swords aside of now only bringing his newly crafted light sabre for now, neatly tucked away under his 'Kama' (totally no a skirt) out of sight from onlookers.

Why had the usual laid back and not carrying if he missed out on something Jedi made sure to make it today even though being late, well, it had to do with the Shadow Jedi, a type of Jedi class where his skills as an assassin and 'other' things would be put to good use. As such the young boy was quickly making his way through the busy crowds, a little disappointing that he could not stop to look at the art or inspect the sights a bit more, but time was away.

Finally, the young Jin had made it to the conference room, slightly winded but otherwise okay, "haa haaa, sorry I'm late, clothing crisis and all", he gave a slight smile while scanning the room at its current occupants. Of course he knew [member="Claire Organa"], the one who had called for them, next was [member="Andorreth Vikar"], more someone he had heard about then anything else, [member="Epistor"], [member="Jyoti Nooran"] and [member="Liuna Ondizi"] where new faces to him but [member="Cassius Droma"]... oh did they have a history. *Ahem*, "Oh heeeeeeeeeey Cassius, how ya doing... sorry for trying to kill you that one time, hee hee, you know, orders and all, been going alright, no one trying stab you"?

"I look forward to it. Alderaanian artists rarely disappoint." The realist style favored by many nature loving Alderaanians greatly appealed to her Kiribian sensibilities.

Cassius appeared in time to chime in, offering a sarcastic remark on his feelings on a particular piece.

"Good durasteel rarely goes to waste," she replied after studying the painting for a moment. "I see a bright future ahead for our old warship." In her tone she sounded positively optimistic, though no less mocking than her counterpart.

As multiple Shadows continued appearing, including her newest apprentice, Claire eventually led them all to a conference room to proceed with the discussion.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Your Grace," Jyoti replied as she hovered over a seat while addressing the noble. "I'm Jyoti Nooran. I do believe everyone is here as Vikar has said."

All who was missing was Ondizi, but she was on a different assignment looking into theft. As with most white collar crime, there were several powerful figures and boat loads of credits involved, requiring a high degree of finesse on the investigator's part.

As she settled down, another Padawan appeared, and a rather boisterous one at that. Tanaski Yumi, she recalled. She raised an eyebrow as the Padawan brought up their...curious past with Cassius. Definitely something she would ask Cassius about later.

What were the odds? Claire looked to where Andorreth stood how long had it been, it seemed like yesterday. She nodded a greeting keeping the smile hidden lest someone see. Was there harm in knowing one of them, or even all of them? She did not know what she did know was that she felt relief knowing he was there. There were things unspoken here.

The room that they now stood in looking at her and one another made her think of a house full of wolfcats. Sharp and ready to jump at the slightest bit of noise. They were waiting for her to speak, to tell them more about why they were here and asked to hide their allegiance.

"Thank you all for coming, I am Claire of House Organa of Alderaan. The Queens Ambassador to friends and enemies of the Coalition." Her eyes moved from face to face so that they too could see she spoke honestly and openly.

She felt the tension in her stomach twisting over and over as she looked to the last in the room to her right. "I am grateful that you are all here.I do not know how much you know of what has been happening but I understand from my Queen that you are willing to delve into this deeper. There have been at least one attempt on my life, messages calling for me to be tried as a traitor and now there have been random messages left throughout the Coalition warning of retaliation and consequences for the Coalition. Tell me how I can help you?"

What did they need to know?

I knew of the one attempt on Claire's life already due to having been there. However the messages calling for her to be tried as a traitor and random messages..... That was new, although not unexpected either if one couldn't take out the true target the next step was to make the rest of her allies hate her. Intriguing, very.....Sith of her attackers. Sowing division and causing uncertainty....Looking towards Claire I spoke "M'lady if I may I've only a few questions. First who would benefit outright from your death or capture, the second part of that question is who would benefit politically against Alderaan from such a thing? More than that if you're personal friends with the Queen or anyone else in power who would benefit from causing them pain? What is your attacker's goal, eliminating you perhaps but what if it were more to do that and cause emotional distress in other powerful figures you may know?"

The assassin in me was thinking as her attackers may. That actually may be the only way to catch these people as an assassin or merc.... take a job against Claire's life in order to obtain information about who her pursuers and attackers truly were. I'd never follow up on the hit but the fact was that people in the galaxy knew of my skills and how I'd intentionally left people alive in order to get better pay. So if that was known then they also knew I could get rid of Claire should I wish. Corporate, political, personal it didn't really matter at the heart all the possibilities of people wanting Claire boiled down to greed in some form but with powerful motives....I'd wait to find out her answers though.

She looked to Andorreth, "Who would benefit? No one that I am aware of. On my death my company would pass to Torie, my sister. My position in House Organa is a minor noble and since Torie is younger she would become the Countess Organa." That gave Torie all the motive but as was known by the good Captain it was possible that Torie was a captive.

"Political. I've made friends throughout the galaxy, if I am gone those relationships would be gone. Granted another could take my place but the level of trust would take time to build and anything could happen." Anything she thought. The First Order would have no reason to stay away from the Coalition. Those friends that she had dealt with that were not completely lightsided, like Kainan Wolfe. They would have no reason to avoid raids, or war with the Coalition.

"If I were killed it would pain the family I and my sister are all that remain of my father's line. Killing me ends our line, removes us from the nobility, and hurts the Queen. So it could be just to cause pain, distract them to something else while doing I don't know.." Claire knew that Andorreth was only doing what he needed but his words made her think. Made her wonder.

It was one thing to have pirates come after her ship and her person...but was it so sinister that she was missed the larger picture.

Jyoti nodded along as Claire spoke with Vikar, taking notes with the swipe of her datapad. Vikar's questioning was helpful in eliciting Claire to provide some context for her problems, but without evidence of leads, everything was just pure speculation at this point.

She paused in her notetaking, taking a turn at questioning.

"Claire," she started, switching to using the noble's first name to begin building a rapport. "Could we backtrack a bit? I'd like to go over the assassination attempt to begin. When and where did it happen? What were you doing at the time? Were you alone? Did you catch a glimpse of the attacker(s) at all? Has there been any investigations opened by the FWC?"

Tana kept to the side and silent for most of the talk, not wanting to overstep his boundaries, though only having taken minor jobs in her prior life as an assassin he understood why people would take a hit out on someone for multiple reasons, and personally he could agree with [member="Claire Organa"] on someone wanting to just hurt the family. Often enough assassins where just hired to kill people to get pay back besides actually achieve something, and no doubt such a woman like Organa had made some enemies, either in the underworld or with another system government, the Galactic Empire springing to mind first. His older sister had told him about the raid conducted by them a while back, and for all he knew things may have escalated more over such an issue if the FWC had ceased trade or some other sort of deal with the Empire because of it.

Still they would need more information to start a possible investigation on who would want her dead, [member="Jyoti Nooran"] taking the step to ask said questions about that attack, hopefully the places security detection also had something to go on, even if nothing was picked up, the way in how the assassins avoided detection could point them in the right way. Everyone had their different methods, personal flare and know how on eluding security, himself using the oldest trick in the book, disguises combined with good old fashion sabotage. He would pose that question, but after Organa had replied to the current inquiries.

Claire's gaze moved over to [member="Jyoti Nooran"] who had asked about the attempt. "I was on a mission on Kuat. The Red Star Gang had been very active and disrupting trade, and vandalizing Coalition buildings. I was sent to talk with the local government find out what they needed and how we could stop them."

It had been very frightening, "On the way in our ship took some ground to air fire we never found out who or why. When I was touring the damage someone was shooting at me, and then a bomb exploded." She stopped there. A few good people had died, innocent people all because of...what!

"I was injured but not killed." It bothered her to be spared when others weren't, but what could she do. She had no control over fate. It was a feeling of being alone how a room can be filled and yet the air feel empty void of emotion it was guilt. She had to find a way to not dwell on it. She had to honor the dead but keep living.

"Everyone assumes it was Red Star, if I've learned anything it's don't assume." She waited for them all to take in the information.

The rest of the group had arrived, and they were ushered into a conference room where they could converse in private. They’d certainly gathered quite the group of interesting people to investigate all of this. Andorreth was taking point, of course, and Cassius would still follow Jyoti’s lead. The appearance of Tanaski Yumi was unexpected, and made Cassius tense up somewhat. Instead of answering the man’s question, he merely sighed and shook his head.

The questions began, and Cassius began to take mental notes of how the political landscape of Alderaan seemed to function. In terms of power moves, the options seemed to be limited. It was suggested that the motivation to kill Claire was to merely cause pain, but Cassius didn’t really believe that. There was inherit risks in taking out not only the head of a large company, but someone of royalty that had pull in a major faction in the galaxy. With resources like that, vengeance taken could be swift, brutal, and guaranteed. There had to be some other angle to it, Cassius was sure. His working theory was that it was an opposing political power.

Jyoti inquired about the assassination attempt in question, and as Claire Organa recounted the story to them, it seemed apparent that his psychometry skills wouldn’t be as useful as previously thought. There were definitely some details missing from her story, however. Details that Cassius would need clarified.

“Was the shooter close? Far away?” Cassius spoke for the first time since entering the room. “When did the bomb explode?” If a bomb was planted, why bother shooting, unless it was to coral your target closer to the kill radius of the explosive device.

I'd discreetly moved away from the conversation area. Fire from the ground from The Red Star Gang, forcing the ship down. Could've been in an attempt to to distract people tended to not notice things when fire came their way and ships were going down. Claire taking fire while touring the damage, then a bomb but she'd been left standing. This was all too convenient.....It was an organized distraction. "M'lady that may be because it wasn't an actual assassination attempt. The Red Stars need funding and also are mercs they do jobs to whoever pays the most. Also the fact that your ship was fired on and you and your team were tageted but you were left standing tells me something. You weren't meant to be killed but highly distracted."

Pausing I said "Sometimes fire is placed on ships to scramble sensors and distract, if The Red Star's real goal was to get someone off planet that'd be simple with firing on your ship and opening an escape route. Escort ships wold go to you and not look for a ship leaving. Also if you were fired and at meant to be killed you'd have sustained worse injuries. Your people were killed though to further distract what if you weren't the target, the goal was to get something away form your diplomatic mission? Firing on your ship and killing your team puts emotional strain on you to hwere you don't see everything going on. THe biggest questions what would the Kuati government wanted off world? Who funded the Red Stars for that day?"

Someone desperately wanted to distract and devastate. An effective combination but only if you hadn't been trained to recognize such patterns someone had a bigger agenda behind all these threats and attempts. Smuggling something or perhaps someone offworld especially only when Claire showed up said much about the people that likely were "after her" could be they truly were but even the pirate attack had been a disguised attempt at gathering intel from ship computers. Whoever was playing this game was doing so carefully and hired for their secrecy. A pirate captain had killed himself to deny Claire answers....now this. If someone had been smuggled off Kuat then odds were the Kuati diplomats had know of at least some of what was going on....

[member="Cassius Droma"] ~ [member="Claire Organa"] ~ [member="Jyoti Nooran"] ~ [member="Tanaski Yumi"]

Ok field the questions she looked to Cassius, "bomb was in an open square" Her face squished up as she thought about how close, "took out two guards in front of me. I'm sorry I'm not sure if that gives you a distance. As for when we entered the square as we made our way to see what other damage had been done. It was sudden I didn't think to question these things."

She had not really paid that much attention.

"Andorreth if that is true I would accept that. But without investigation isn't what everything we do in this room speculation without fact?" If they weren't after her then it could be a distraction for the Coalition or for the Queen.

Without a closer look into all of this she couldn't help but feel she was giving them 'maybes' and 'could have been' perhaps they needed to be on Kuat to see who what and where this was all about.

[member="Andorreth Vikar"] | [member="Cassius Droma"] | [member="Jyoti Nooran"] | [member="Tanaski Yumi"]

As it was the Kuati people I could give a kark less about. From what I knew of galactic history the planet was meaningless tactically but they were shrewd people as it was they were still known for the KDY and the ships. The ring meant all and the orbital defenses were a force of their own. If the nobles of Kuat had been approached prior to Claire's visit then a deal had likely already been struck. As it was Claire had been taunted about Torie... but the fact was there was honestly nothing to be gained from Claire if Torie had been killed. If she'd been turned however then it would change things dramatically. Claire being the person she was would do everything in her power to rescue her sister. Also from a psy-ops perspective it made sense to have dangled information about Torie in front of Claire to prompt her to follow the trail...... put it that way then all of this made sense. It was high stakes emotional manipulation.

Torie would gain if Claire died, and if she'd been turned then the political tide could be shifted in favor of whoever was holding Torie's reins.... I had my theories about what was actually going on but no proof.... yet I was tiring of playing knife in the dark as well. I was still paying attention but I began discreetly sending messages to my underworld and hidden contacts to dig up infomration and leads. If this was to be a game of follow the leads then I'd do so on my terms, odds were that'd mean discreet investigation on my end. I'd listen for more information for now though at the conclusion of this meeting I'd be discussing my thoughts with Claire and asking permission to investigate using my own methods....
