The Girl and The Robot

“Why? Would you want it to be one?” Kaili grinned at Allyson. “Sleeping solo on a hard couch rather than in a soft, oh-so-very soft bed ain’t so bad, is it?”

Kaili leaned back, played it as cool as she could while Allyson approached the refresher, waited for Kaili to respond, and...

“Who is making invitations now, Mrs. Locke?”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Allyson had stripped off her vest and had begun to undress when Kaili returned with her comments. Stopping, Allyson was mostly surprised at the returned playfulness and decided to go a little more. She remembered Kaili had a little to drink along with herself having a few glasses. It was more than likely this was all simple banter.

Allyson walked up to the cool Kaili Talith who was leaning somewhat on the wall, a hand leaned against the wall behind her just over the shoulder. Allyson leaned in a little closer than they had ever been and smirked. “Ms. Talith, I think the question is if you’re willing to step up to the plate” Allyson figured the girl was all hot air when it came to the invitations and the playfulness, still she enjoyed it. A single finger ran gently under Kaili’s chin as Ally smirked and finished talking. Pulling away from her she chuckled and ran a hand through her brunette hair.

“But the invitation still stands, you know gotta save water and all.” [member="Kaili Talith"]

Was Kaili willing to step up to the plate? Allyson had her with her back against the wall. The droid maker perked an eyebrow at Allyson as she leaned over her. They were close. Two hearts, beating together in perfect rhytm, and with a careful stroke of Kaili’s chin Allyson eventually backed off. The act had been close to being utterly destroyed, Kaili started to breathe heavier for each passing second. She had to do something, one up Allyson somehow. This wasn’t a competition that Kaili wanted to lose. Not now, after a whole day of going back and forth over it.

Her chest started to rise in rapid succession as Kaili’s mind considered her next move. She knew one but there was something holding her back. A hint of uncertainty, perhaps. Most certainly a small dose of fear.

Yet in the end what did that matter? No, she let her guard down for a second, bit her lip and looked over at her friend. Here it went, all or nothing.

Two determined steps, one gentle tug at Allyson’s arm...

And one single kiss on the lips. She let it linger just a little while longer before pulling away.

“Your turn.” Kaili tried to grin as she blinked herself awake.

The girl was full of surprises, Allyson felt the tug of her arm and she was pulled towards the droid maker. Something seemed different and she raised an eyebrow until the blonde girl pressed her lips for just a moment against Allyson’s. Eyes went wide as she felt it linger there for a moment and then it was gone. Allyson again for the second time today at a loss for words. Scratching her ear slightly, she felt her face red.

She had to keep reminding herself that this was just a game that they were playing. It meant nothing for Kaili who more than likely wouldn’t remember anything beyond dinner. Being the type to want the last word, Allyson pondered for a moment and then remembered the wall. “Well if you’re going to play like that Kaili…” A gentle push and a hand once again finding its way to the wall, Allyson pinned Kai to the wall where her bed was located. Heart racing still from the previous kiss, she whispered as she leaned forward. The same finger ran under the blonde’s chin as she leaned forward and kissed her new friend again, bodies pressed together as she took it to the next level.

A few moments passed and Allyson pulled away and cupped Kaili’s cheek. “Go to bed Kaili, you’re about to pass out where you stand.” It took a lot out of Allyson to not press the situation further, she wanted more but knew Kaili probably wasn’t interested in the same things she was. Still, the girl was a damn good kisser. [member="Kaili Talith"]

And with that, the girl collapsed on the bed. With her eyes wasting no time to close themselves she raised her hand towards the ceiling before pointing over at Allyson.

“You...” The girl drawled out in exhaustion.”Win.”

Arm collapsing by her side she hit the edge of her bed. Yet the pain was not felt. Her fully clothed form fell limp in an awkward half-sitting half-lying down position. Her blonde hair covered her face from the left and her mouth ran agape. There was little doubt that she would end up with her right cheek covered in drool. Not a particularly pretty picture, but all things considered Kaili wasn’t the picture of an ideal woman.

At least not to most.

Deep, heavy breaths and the occasional mumbled word as if she was already deep within a dream.

Oh, how Kaili had fallen... Asleep.

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Allyson watched as the girl slumped into her bed. Scratching the back of her head she signed and wondered if Kaili was a backwards version of sleeping beauty. As she stared for a moment to make sure she was really asleep, she watched drool slowly make its way out of the girl's mouth and trickle down over her cheek. Ally had to cover her mouth to shove a laugh down. Grabbing her things she moved into the refresher and cleaned up before bed.

Didn't take her long to finish and she headed out towards where the couch was. Looking at it while she dressed into something to sleep in she was curious at the signals she received. Figuring they were just sleepy games that she played, Ally fixed the couch for the most part and prepared for sleep. Looking over at Kaili, she helped her lay down proper and covered her with her blankets.

She bit her lower lip as she contemplated her next thought. Deciding to go with it, she leaned forward and brushed aside the mess of blonde hair. A soft kiss brushed against Kai's forehead and Allyson turned to crawl onto the couch.

Instantly regretting not taking the invitation for the bed, Allyson yawned, rolled over and closed her eyes. She repeated in her mind that Kai didn't mean anything by the kiss, it was all just a game...[member="Kaili Talith"]

It felt like just a second ago that the weight on her eyelids had been unbearable. Kaili had barely been able to stand straight and now here she was, somehow, in her own bed. Blankets covered her and she wasn’t in an awkward position, but the drool was still there. That would seem to be the one thing that didn’t change once she went to bed way past when her body wanted her to. Like a disgusting form of revenge that said ‘You should go to bed earlier, I will turn your entire face into an ocean now.’

Nonetheless, Kaili was used to it. Sometimes time just flew by during some of the more intensive Hologame sessions, but she hadn’t told Allyson about that.

“Oh crap.” Kaili let out a hiss whisper as she rose up in her bed in a panic-like state. “Crap!” She loudly repeated herself as her head hit the low ceiling in her coffin-like sleeping module. A hand strayed its way up to rub at her forehead and she shuffled her butt out of her sleeping compartment. Sure enough, there Allyson was on the couch, sleeping like a baby. Or well, maybe not anymore.

Kaili rose up from her bed and began to furiously rub at the zone of impact from before. She dragged her feet across the floor as she away towards the kitchen. Her hand pulled at the handle to the refrigerator and with it she knelt down. To withdraw the eggs, the bacon, the bean- No, she didn’t have any. Oh well. Tomatoes, certain other what-have-yous that could be good to eat as a one-off luxury breakfast.

Once all the items had been placed upon the countertop she rose up again to look at her guest. There was a distinct memory that something had happened yesterday. Not just anything, but something... Big, yet Kaili had no idea what. Hand once more rubbing at the little bump forming at the top of her forehead she had one hell of an awakening.

Eyes wide open.

“Oh fark.” Kaili whispered in surprise and blinked. “I must have been really tired.”

Or something like that.

“What do I do? Should I wake her up? What does this mean? I never thought...” Kaili murmured to herself. Deep breath, quick exhale. “Wow. Okay. Uhm, hmm.”

Breakfast. Best to just focus on that.

Kaili turned on the stove and took a seat on the nearby counter to look at Allyson. Whether she was awake or not didn’t matter. Kaili needed to think. That much was certain.

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Ally could sleep through a stampede of Banthas if she was tired enough. Which this morning she was. She had laid out her running shoes, but when she had woken up at the crack of dawn, she quickly decided against it and went back to sleep. The stirrings of [member="Kaili Talith"] didn't disturb her for the time being, until she felt a pair of eyes burning into the back of her head.

Blinking she woke up and adjusted herself on the hard couch. She shifted a few more times and realized there was no falling back asleep. Rolling over, she checked to see if Kaili was still asleep drooling into an endless abyss. She wasn't there, but as Allyson moved, she caught eyes with the girl and blinked rapidly confused as to why she was being looked at. Looking over her shoulder she wondered if there was something behind her, not seeing anything she looked back and waved coyly and confused towards Kai.

Getting out of bed she pulled back her mess of brunette hair into a messy bun and entered the bathroom. She didn't have to do anything in there besides brush her teeth, but having the door closed between them gave Ally a moment to catch herself. Burying her face into her hands she sighed. Did she play along too well last night? There were so many questions and she didn't even know how to look at Kaili this morning.

Were things going to be weird?

It had by all means been her first real kiss. Well, second and third as well. Maybe she thought it was something that would be so extra particularly special, yet... It really wasn’t. The hype around it came crashing like the disappointment of any other videogame. The only real difference in the analogy was that unlike the video games, the kiss didn’t leave the young Talith with a sense of regret or even remorse. It was as if it had quite simply just happened and that was that. Meanwhile there was no accounting for what went on in Allyson’s mind, but she didn’t look particularly thrilled burying her face in the palm of her hands.

With it, Kaili pushed herself off of the counter and walked over to her friend. She took a seat next to Allyson and for a moment she let the silence just linger between the two of them. They were both thinking about what had happened last night, yet Kaili being Kaili she figured now was as good of a time as any to do what she always did.

Lighten the mood.

“Sooo,” The kid kid drew it out as she extended both arms in a shrug. “Does this mean we’re like... Married now?”

And then she grinned. There was little else she could do.

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Allyson was surprised as Kaili came closer and took a seat next to her. She ignored the girl’s attempt to hide from the stare. Holding her breath, she looked towards her waiting for her to say something, possibly scold her for taking advantage of the situation. Though none of that came and the innocent question occurred. Instantly Allyson’s freedom flashed before her eyes, it was short and rather vivid freedom, but nonetheless it was freedom. Palms slightly sweaty, she shook her head and looked back towards Kai. “Less somehow you slipped a ring on me in the middle of the night, pretty sure we’re still just friends.” Nervously laughing, Allyson brushed aside any stray strands of brunette hair that decided to fall in her face from the messy bun.

She appreciated what Kaili was doing, the lighthearted question wasn’t anything serious and did make her smile as she thought about it more. Soft laughter escaped her as she shook her head once more. “You have to do more to lock this down Kai, not just pass out where you stand and drool yourself into an island.” Noticing the slight crustiness against Kaili’s cheek, she grabbed one of the towels off the counter of the bathroom and wiped the girl’s face.

“I’m sorry for last night, I got carried away and yeah.” She paused and looked away mostly towards the floor of the bathroom. “I don’t regret it though and I won’t so I guess I’m sorry again?” She needed to think fast, maybe a compliment before Kaili assumes something or other. “You’re a good kisser even if you were half asleep.” [member="Kaili Talith"]

Kaili most certainly grimaced as the towel scraped away the last few leftover from yesterday’s very eventful evening. It seemed it was Allyson’s turn to apologize, or rather, to feel as if she had to apologize. Kaili couldn’t think of a reason why she would have to. Perhaps this was what it felt like to be Allyson yesterday, with the potential for non-stop apologies.

Kaili shook her head.

“Sorry for what?” Kaili snickered and tried to lighten the mood again. “All things considered, I think it was a pretty good first kiss. Pretty sure many others can’t say the same.”

Then there was that smell. Harsh and distracting yet Kaili didn’t think on it.

At least not at first.

“So, I guess that means you were a pretty good ki- Oh crap, the frying pan!”

Kaili got out of her seat and flung herself towards the kitchen to lower the intensity of the stove. Frying pan off of the top she sighed in relief. She ran an inspection of the pan and...

It was empty.

Right, she never really got to work on that before waltzing over to her friend.

“Uh, everything is perfectly alright now. We’re fine, all fine around here now. Thank you.” Kaili called back to Allyson. “How are you?”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Allyson blinked quickly as Kaili revealed that it was her first kiss, it was one hell of a way to go about it. To take initiative and then get kissed the way she did afterwards was something else. Allyson was under the impression that the girl had done it before, now in her mind, Kai was one of the bravest people she knew. Before the smuggler could say anything in response to the comments of her blonde friend, the girl took off quickly and headed towards the kitchen. Curiosity got the best of her, and Allyson quickly followed. Seeing the smoke, she looked towards Kai who seemed relieved almost. The girl repeated that everything was fine, but Allyson didn’t know if she was talking about the pan or about the entire situation.

Giving a little bit of silence, Allyson finally spoke up with a soft smile. Arms crossed in front of her chest as she shrugged looking at the smoking pan. “We can go into town if you want and have someone else cook for us or…” looking at the pan she chuckled softly. “We can wait till the pan stops smoking up to you.” Her eyes moved away from the blonde girl as she glanced around the apartment, she remembered how everything looked outside. “Today, I guess until Bait’s part comes in – you think we could explore the island a bit?”

Having her gaze far from Kaili, she worked up the courage to passively express her desire to just be around the girl without any other distractions. Last night clung to her and played on her mind, she just needed to see what last night was, if it was anything or if she was being a fool. “I…kind of just want to spend time with you – without the distraction of the port. I don’t know I’m being silly haha, sorry.” [member="Kaili Talith"]

“Look,” Kaili said before clinging to Allyson’s waist in a hug. “You’re fine. Stop worrying.”

“I’ve spent a lot of time alone in this home and workshop. If you think I won’t appreciate the company of someone else then you’re dead wrong.” She let go of Allyson. “If you want to stay, you can stay. The droid parts should either have arrived already, or it will be here within the hour or so. After that we will fix Bait up, good as new, and after that we will see.”

“So, stop apologizing. Neither of us needs it.”

“Now, let’s just put these,” Kaili grabbed the things she had brought up to the counter again. “Back in the fridge,” The items were put back in their respective compartments and with it Kaili shut the door and rose up again. “And let’s go make someone else do all that for us.”

Keycard in hand Kaili made way towards the door. A quick look at the weather screen would tell that it was cloudy outside. Figures. She extended her hand towards a nearby coat hanger and withdrew a purple sweater, tied it around her waist and opened the door to expose the dusty workshop.

“I know, I kinda ask myself why I keep my home somewhat hidden in a wall as well.” She snickered. “Paranoia, I guess?”

Or quite clearly not. Considering she let a former stranger into her home.

“Shall we?”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

The hug was comforting and maddening at the same time. Though, with the reiteration that everything was fine and that she didn’t need to apologize Allyson loosened up again. Smiling, she nodded and figured not having to cook would be nice – also being with someone else just mean that she could spend time on the inside of a restaurant more frequently. When it was decided by Kaili that they were going out, Allyson changed quickly and ran a brush through her messy hair. Tossing it back up into the bun, she followed in suit and grabbed a gray sweater out of her bag.

Island weather was weird and she hoped that the clouds would disperse soon so they could head down to the beach and hang out there for a bit. For the most part and to Allyson’s understanding, the beach was mostly empty in these parts. Still, she could be wrong and it just be a random moment that she had noticed that no one was there. Shrugging she followed Kai and listened to the girl talk about keeping her home hidden. “It’s not a bad thing really. I mean you have foot traffic in the shop and with you living so close you don’t want some creeper to know that you live here too.” Allyson felt her face twist into that ‘ew ick’ look as she stuck her tongue out. There were some massive creeps out in the galaxy and the last thing a girl like Kaili needed was someone creeping their way all over her.

Thinking about it, Allyson frowned knowing that she had shamelessly flirted with the girl when she walked into the shop. She had to mentally convince herself that she was far from creepy and if she was Kaili wouldn’t have invited her to stick around. “I’m totally down to stay – but man going to have to figure out how to make that couch comfortable.” Allyson exaggerated a wince and rubbed her lower back. She did feel a bit off after sleeping on the couch and once again regretted not attempting to take sleepy Kaili’s comment as an invitation.

“So any good breakfast places nearby?” [member="Kaili Talith"]

Plenty of creeps around. Kaili knew that one well. The story about the Colonel who kept on coming back to her shop, despite the fact that Kaili had said no over and over again, was one of the stories that she was well-aware of. She didn’t design weapons and he knew that. Yet there he was nonetheless. Always with the same thing, offering a vast amount of money in exchange for a prototype killing machine that would be used for nothing that Kaili was interested in. If he knew where she lived he would probably take to measures that she dreaded to even think on.

“Yeah, plenty of creeps out there.” Kaili nodded. “I know of one, but it’s something I’d rather tell you later. Nothing big, just never know if they’re around, you know?”

The young one lead the two of them down the sidewalk by her workshop-slash-home-slash-dustbowl. The wind had a chilly bite to it, but that wasn’t anything new. Sometimes the temperature sunk like this, but it never went anywhere below ‘Just cool enough.’

“We mainly have little bakeshops around here. And I don’t mean those small town ‘We just do what we can to get by’ bakeshops either.” It wouldn’t exactly be unthinkable to assume the neighborhood in which Kaili lived was... Uptight and rigid about the appearances of things. Unlike Kaili herself who was still walking around with a hair that stood in all direction simply because she didn’t care. “I mean those idyllic illusions of what life in a rustic village would be like.”

“Which, I warn you right now, is a bit misguided.” Kaili shrugged. It was that simple truth of how rich people behaved sometimes. Misguided and snooty. “But I am going off on a tangent. Yes, there is a very cute little parlor a bit down the road. I don’t think you’d mind a walk after sleeping on that couch, right?”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Ally looked towards the blonde as she agreed with the creep comment. This odd sense of wanting to knock out what ever or who ever the situation is that she can't talk about out in the open about. To try and not make a small fist, she twitched her nose as she attempted to focus her mind elsewhere. Whatever or who ever the something was she couldn't do anything about it anyways. They left the building of many things and headed towards the little place Kai knew of. The girl rambled and Ally of course listened intently.

It was an odd situation for the Smuggler, she was never the type to listen. She acted, asked questions later and then ignored the answers. Though with Kai she was interested in what the girl had to say, even if it was about the town and how snuffy they where or something. Okay, it was possible she just liked the sound of Kai's voice.

"I like small places, my parents always talked about starting one for my mom's cooking. Never took off dad always worked too much." Shrugging she was somewhat happy it never happened, but still deep down she wanted to one day make her mom's dream come true - especially now that she was gone.

The mention of the couch made Ally groan slightly, but she laughed quickly afterwards. "As long as it's not on the other side of the island I'll be good. Geez Kai could you have gotten a stiffer couch?" As she walked beside her friend, Allyson purposefully walked into her slightly and nudged against her playfully. "The couch is a killer, how do you relax? Do you ever relax?" [member="Kaili Talith"]

Kaili was used to the nudges. After all, she had her brother and between them, a nudge was a challenge. First you nudged with the elbow, then with the full-brunt of your torso after which you tossed yourself at the other in a wrestling match that lasted until the other surrendered. There were no rules other than ‘not the face’ which suited them both just fine.

But this wasn’t with her brother, this was with Allyson. Kaili nudged hunched her shoulder in anticipation and quickly twisted her elbow to get Allyson back on the rebound.

“Eh.” Kaili shrugged Allyson’s question off. “Relaxation is a secondary. I find that work keeps my mind off of things.”

“Besides, you know what they say.” The kid said as she continued to lead the duo down the street. “Find a job you love and you won’t have to work a day in your life.”

“Sounds applicable enough.”

A salty breeze passed. The sun was still rising in the distance. An orange glow seemed to fill the skies as the clouds of Borleias lit up in an aethereal fire. Kaili had almost forgotten it, almost. Though it was hard to forget the sight of something so simple yet incredibly beautiful. In a way it made her feel that rich man’s guilt. What was just every day life to her was a dream to many others.

Which in a way could have been how someone would have described Kaili’s entire life up until she got her shop.

“I do relax.” Kaili said as she shook herself out of that particular line of thought and grinned “I just, don’t do it on the couch.”

“Didn’t you see the rig by the kitchen booth? I have enough holovids, Agricorp Simulators and Role-Playing Games to last me a lifetime. Several, possibly.”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

Allyson took the elbow and decided to bank her revenge for when they got back to the workshop. She would take the time they were out to plot. For now, she took it and smiled widely listening to Kai explain about her gaming habit. Flight simulators and MMORPGs were something that Allyson usually filled her extra time with. She completely understood and had her own set up in one of the rooms on the Coronet, the ship she inherited from Ember. A part of her wanted to figure out where the heck Kai had been all her life, and another part wondered if she played the same RPGs she did.

A finger found her lips as she pondered her favorite series, especially games that wouldn’t make her look like a complete girl or worse…a noob. Deciding on a couple of series she put her hands behind her head and stretched her sore back. With a sigh of satisfaction, she questioned the girl beside her. “RPGs are some of my favorites, especially the Atrisian RPGs, complete and total favorite is the Final Hero Series, I love that it’s always a new story! I can’t wait for FHS 16 to finally launch – they’ve been pushing it make so many times!” Allyson groaned with the displeasure of the game consistently being pushed back. She had been excited for it for the past 3 years. Her hands feel back at her side as she thought about another game she had devoted years too.

“Uh, do you play World of GalaxyCraft?” A sheepish grin as she pondered if she should just completely nerd out. “I uh, I play a paladin…Legion of course! Elf, I can’t help it I like the ears” Ally laughed at her confession, no one really knew about her gaming – she usually kept it to herself since not many people were for some reason open about it. Though, Kai was here open about everything about her it seemed. It was a relief. “I’ve always wanted to try table top, never had enough friends or friends who were into it.” [member="Kaili Talith"]

Atrisian RPGs. While Kaili had to admit she wasn’t a fan, she had heard great things about them, and the Final Hero series in particular. There were others, of course, series like Brother, Battle Hydra Quest and Ember Signia, but none of them truly appealed to the young Talith. With a proper introduction, perhaps, but for now her interests were far more in line with series such as Eternalsummer Nights, Basements & Drexls as well as the occasional game of the aptly named; ‘Old Republic.’ Needless to say, it felt good to have someone who understood Kaili’s fascination with such things.

“I found that I did play WOG, until patch 1.24.2156. You know, when they pretty much destroyed the Support Tanks in the early late-game. Which is, of course, not to mention the cost of keeping up with all the expansion packs.” Kaili shrugged. “These days I keep myself occupied with independent titles, it seems. For example Starmist Canyon is a... Small, very small, AgriCorp Simulation game made by a single Ithorian. He worked sprites, music, coding and also published it by himself.”

“I like it when people prove others wrong or have that diligent spirit to them.”

The two arrived at the cafeteria-slash-bakeshop. Sure enough it was as idyllic as Kaili had described it. Neatly carved metal tables with white-orange parasols that swayed gently in the morning breeze. The smell of caf started to fill the air, the scent of newly baked bread. If one closed their eyes they could almost believe they were somewhere else. And despite having given the shop a rather harsh description, Kaili loved to come here nonetheless.

“I know, I did it no honor. But this is like my little slice of heaven, I admit.” Kaili smiled as she lead Allyson into the shop. The smell of bread and pastry in-the-making grew stronger. “What do you want to have? On me. I insist.”

[member="Allyson Locke"]

[SIZE=10pt]Allyson smiled as she listened to Kai talk about her experiences and what kind of games she preferred. There wasn’t much similarities with their tastes, but it seemed they both could appreciated what the other enjoyed. The shop wasn’t given justice, but she wondered if this was a sign of how Kai’s standards were. Ally decided to file that part away in the back of her mind and focus on the present with the girl leading her into the shop. The smell of the pastries filled her nose as she quickly pinpointed a cinnamon roll the size of her face. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=10pt]“Kai, you don’t have to do that, I can pick up breakfast today. I mean you’re already letting me stay with you and giving me free droid repairs. It’s really the least I could do.” Rubbing the back of her head she laughed slightly. The youngest Talith was far too giving and Allyson was starting to feel a bit guilty about all of it. Even so, she still felt a bit odd after the exchange of kisses. At least she remembered it right? After ordering the cinnamon bun and a tall cold glass of blue milk, she looked towards Kai. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=10pt]“I swear I can pick this up – please?” Trying to give the blonde her cutest and most adorable pleading smile, she pulled out a few credit in preparation of Kai’s order. “Also you’ll be excited to know that with the patch WOG put out last month, they really buffed the support tank class. Maybe you can come back and we can play with each other at some point” It excited Allyson at the possibility of someone she knew in real life playing an MMO with her. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=10pt]“I’d also really like to try the agricraft game hehhehehehe” [member="Kaili Talith"][/SIZE]
