Private The Holiday

Falentra rested her head against his shoulder as she breathed an inaudible sigh of relief. She relished the moment in this warm embrace, entirely serene, free from the worries of the week.

Of course, she had doubts and apprehensions coming here, who wouldn't meeting their boyfriend's family? "I did, but you're here, and that is all that matters." She said honestly. It was a chance to get away from sith space, the darkness was often stiflingly heavy at times. "I can't wait to be with you again." She whispered almost sultrily, they hadn't been together since naboo. It wasn't his family she was here for, but her bond. Unfortunately, their time behind closed doors would have to wait.

"But yes, it would be rude not to say hello to the hosts first." She smiled as he linked her clawed hands in his. "I'm nervous, honestly." She admitted as Balun led them forwards. Wherever she went, she always stood out like a sore thumb, her freakish looks always turning heads, not always in a good way especially when in sith space. Although Makai didn't seem to have an issue with her when they met, perhaps the rest of the family would be as open minded.

"Are the rest of your family as good looking as you, Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell ?"

"No thanks. I'm not drinking in solidarity with Ellie so I'll just grab something from the ice bucket."

"Aww, that's sweet," Azula said to Makai. She felt a touch of guilt that he had brought beers and wine out for everyone and she was heading inside.

She also wanted to head inside and see how Judah was doing. Just as he needed to spend time with Makai, he was very close to Myra.

She was going to arrive back at the house with Danger at around the same time as Balum and his partner.

"I might have a glass of something a little stronger," she said conversationally to Danger as they meandered back. She offered a wave towards the figures through the kitchen window.

"Yep. Have fun in there."

As for himself, he was fine left alone on the beach.Well, alone in terms of adult company. Rue was still bringing him seashells and rocks to identify - and to keep safe in apile. Food pretty much done and warming, Makai drug a chair over to his impromptu chef's station, cracked the seal on a kelp juice, and kicked back.

"It has been too long. Don't worry, I won't let it go as long next time. I promised to hang out on Joiol more and I will. I need to start researching new brunch recipes after all. Also, thanks for the invite, but I won't be popping in too much. I don't want you to have to stop and entertain - old man in the way and all that."

Judah smiled at his own lame little joke. Annoying the kids on the regular unannounced, even living on the same compound, wouldn't be wise. With a growing family, he was aware they needed their time alone to relax and bond versus having him poke around. Between work however, he would split his time between here and a luxury island home in the Commonwealth region of Sith Space - purchased due to his growing ties in the region.

"As for escaping, I see Azula and Danger headed this way. No escaping now, I wouldn't do that. Tempting though."

"I mean, they're a pretty cool bunch, but nah, they're not as good-looking as I am," Balun quipped with a soft chuckle, his voice light with teasing humor. He walked beside Lady Falentra Lady Falentra , their hands entwined as they made their way back toward the Dashiell Estate. The comment was, of course, a joke, one that carried no truth but every intention of making her smile. He loved seeing her smile, especially knowing how often she wrestled with insecurities about her appearance. Being a Sith Spawn meant facing prejudices and assumptions, particularly from those who didn't understand, and Balun knew how much first impressions weighed on her mind.

To him, none of that mattered. Sith Spawn or not, Nouqai was Nouqai—a fiercely loyal, intelligent, and uniquely beautiful soul. He only wished she could see herself through his eyes, to understand that what others thought didn't define her. Here, among his family and friends, he doubted anyone would even notice, let alone judge her based on her origins. Force sensitivity or not, most wouldn't even suspect her heritage.

"You've already met my brother Makai before," Balun began, shifting the conversation as they approached the estate. "His wife, Myra, is here too, along with their daughter. And… Myra's mother, I think?" His steps faltered slightly as he tripped over his own uncertainty, his brow furrowing as he pieced together the web of family connections. 'Wait, so Danger Arceneau is Myra's mother, right? And Danger is Dad's ex... but Myra and Makai are married...' He trailed off, his train of thought visibly derailed, his expression a mix of confusion and mild amusement at the complexity of it all.

"Uh… anyway," he said after a beat, shaking his head to clear the thought. He turned to Nouqai with a reassuring smile, his tone softening. "They're all good people. You'll see. No need to worry—they'll like you." His words carried not just reassurance but a quiet conviction, a belief that she belonged here just as much as he did.

Danger gave a small nod to Makai and reached over to him to give him a quick half hug and a kiss on top of his head. "Thank you for takin' on grill duty," She told him, giving him a loving ruffle of his hair before walking away.

It was considerate of him wanting to not drink in solidarity with Myra. Truth be told, it was very evident that he was doing his best to do right by her adoptive daughter, especially during their pregnancy.

"If you need me to bring out anything else, let me know, won't be long." Danger told him, before turning towards Azula. The togruta was making her way back up to the house.

"I'll guide you to the bar, Miz Aszula," Danger drawled out to the Jedi, gesturing for the woman to follow her. Now it was time to see how the two ladies fared alone.

This was going to be interesting.

Myra gave a chuckle, shaking her head.

"I can always provide a diversion. It isn't the first time I've done so," She replied with a teasing glint in her grey eyes. More than once she had played interference and it was more in good fun than anything else.

Myra set her glass down and slowly pushed herself off the stool.

"Do you want a plate for some of the appetizers we have? Food is also a great distraction," She added, chuckling, moving towards the area of the kitchen that had an entire table with a broad array of appetizers and finger foods.

His joke had put a smile on her face, she threw a playful punch against his arm. "Of course, no one is as good looking as you are." She giggled.

They walked down the path between the small forest, the estate was certainly in a nice scenic location. "I didn't know he had a daughter." Or that he was married as a matter of fact. She didn't know much about his family, but that was what today was about.

Hopefully, his words were true, the Sith were not always liked in parts of the galaxy, especially not by 'good people'. And she had not a family herself, she didn't know how to act around one.

Hand in hand, they stepped into the building, immediately, various people came into view, none were Makai, the only one of Balun's relatives that she knew. "Who to first?" She asked.

"No, no need to provide a distraction. I couldn't or wouldn't make you do that. Although the food sounds great for an entirely different reason. I can keep my mouth full and prevent myself from saying too much. Less is more in this situation. Got to lay low in plain sight."

Judah chuckled, very much aware he was in danger. Plate picked up, he looked over some of the finger foods before his gaze drifted back to Myra. A wry grin played on his features as a thought came to mind.

"Dangerous for me if your Ma and Azula get along relatively well. However, I'd be a dead man if all three teamed up -Danger, Azula, Thessa - thankfully none seem to realize this. I'd have to fall off the face of the universe."

"I'll guide you to the bar, Miz Aszula," Danger drawled out to the Jedi, gesturing for the woman to follow her. Now it was time to see how the two ladies fared alone.

This was going to be interesting.

"Thank you," she replied smoothly.

Danger was an important part of Judah's life. After their break up and reunion, Azula and Judah had agreed to give the relationship a real chance.

It wasn't exactly a binding contract to get on with all his friends and family, but they were all important to him. Danger was one of his very oldest friends. She imagined it could get lonely up at the top of his organisation and she had been the first he often turned to for advice.

Azula suspect regardless of how the night went he might get a read back from Danger at some point. Good or bad.

Judah and Myra were in the kitchen. Judah was presented with two thirds of his fear. Not that they were making a connection yet.

"Hey just getting a drink," she said to Judah. She offered him a smile. It was nice. Like a soft warming blanket, to see him connecting with his son and his wife before he became a grandfather. Her gaze lingered a moment before she turned after Danger.

"You've known him a very long time?" she asked.

"Err, yeah," Balun began, his voice casual as he walked beside Nouqai toward the grand entrance of the Dashiell Estate. "Makai and his wife, Myra, adopted a girl named Persephone. She's… interesting. Very fashion-driven, kind of intense, but in a good way. Seems like a solid person, which makes sense, given who's raising her." He glanced at Nouqai, a soft smile forming as he continued, his tone easy but warm.

"Myra's mom, Danger Arceneau, is here too. She's Dad's ex… girlfriend? Or ex-wife? Honestly, I'm not sure which," Balun admitted with a quiet chuckle, the sound carrying a touch of humor and self-awareness. "I'm still figuring out the family tree. The dynamics are… well, let's just say they're a lot." He shook his head lightly, his grin broadening as if to shrug off the complexity with good-natured acceptance.

As they neared the entrance, Balun straightened his posture slightly, his expression shifting toward something more resolute. The family was waiting inside, and this moment felt weighty—not just for Nouqai, but for him too. Introducing her to the people who had become such an integral part of his life marked a significant step, a merging of worlds that was deeply personal. Despite the tangle of relationships he was still untangling, Balun's determination to make Nouqai feel welcomed was clear.

"Hey, don't overthink it," he said gently, glancing sideways at her. "Just be yourself—the real you I know. They'll love you, trust me. They've all had their fair share of challenges in life; judgment's not their style." His voice carried a calm, reassuring tone, though he understood her reservations. He knew her aquatic, Sith-spawned appearance made her unique—unlike anyone else in the galaxy—and that uniqueness sometimes weighed on her. To Balun, it was just another part of what made her remarkable.

Reaching the door, Balun led Nouqai inside, guiding her through the corridors until they reached the room where Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell , Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell , Azula Tindara Azula Tindara , and Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau were gathered. The mental image of Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell outside with Luna briefly flickered through Balun's mind, a comical thought that almost made him chuckle as they rounded the corner.

He stepped forward, his usual easy smile in place. "Hey, guys, sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to introduce you all to my fri—" Balun faltered, the word catching in his throat as if something within him shifted in that instant. A grin tugged at his lips, sheepish yet confident. "Er, girlfriend. Nouqai Veil." He clarified, his voice steady as the words hung in the air, his grin widening as he glanced toward Nouqai.

Myra pressed her lips together to suppress a laugh, the mirth in her eyes betraying her amusement at Judah's predicament.

"Lay low, huh?" she teased, arching a brow. "For a man who's supposed to be inconspicuous, you sure have a knack for digging your own grave."

She smirked, shifting her attention briefly to her mother and Azula as they exchanged polite conversation. "If they do team up, I'd say you're better off finding a good hiding spot now. No amount of finger food is going to save you."

Her gaze returned to Judah, her voice dropping conspiratorially. "But you're right about one thing -- keeping your mouth full might be your safest option. Let the rest of us navigate the minefield. You just smile, nod, and keep eating."

Myra picked up an ornate pastry from the table, giving it a pointed look before holding it out to him with a mischievous grin. "Here. Consider this your first line of defense. I hear it pairs well with humility."

Which was great timing, as Azula and her mother were not far behind in joining them in the kitchen -- and Balun along with his friend - girlfriend?

"Oh, hello!" Myra gave Balun and Nouqai a smile. "Welcome!"

Danger's stride was as smooth as silk, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor as she led Azula toward the kitchen. At Azula's question, Danger let the silence stretch, just for a heartbeat longer than necessary, before answering.

"Just about over twenty years," she said, her voice carrying that soft, honeyed twang. "A long while now."

Her smile deepened slightly, though there was a flicker of something more, a memory, perhaps, or the weight of time passed before she smoothed it away.

"Comes with the business circles and the like we run into -- that, and our children. Met Makai young, and we both stuck like glue."

Her tone was light and conversational, but there was a certain wistfulness to it as if she were leafing through an old, treasured journal in her mind. Danger didn't offer much more; instead, she gave Azula room to fill the space if she wished. It wasn't that she had any ill will toward the Jedi, but decades in the Trade had taught her to measure her words, especially with those she didn't quite see eye to eye with.

When they reached the kitchen, Danger glanced at Judah and Myra. They seemed to be getting on well, but that was no surprise, they always had. However, her attention swiveled towards an approaching pair -- it was Balun, with his companion. From the body language provided, likely more than just a friend.

"Hey, guys, sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to introduce you all to my fri—" Balun faltered, the word catching in his throat as if something within him shifted in that instant. A grin tugged at his lips, sheepish yet confident. "Er, girlfriend. Nouqai Veil."

Ah, perhaps one that was still in the throes of trying to discern just what their status was? Mild amusement would percolate within the Queen of Trade, but she only gave the seemingly cordial and warm greeting, "Welcome, Miz Veil."

First impressions were interesting, and to be honest, Danger was not surprised that it appeared that Balun was also keen on ladies of aquatic nature... or blue. A common thread of interest was now starting to come up, and it amused danger.

"Hey just getting a drink," she said to Judah. She offered him a smile.

Practically startled, Judah had been engrossed in keeping track of the two women and talking to Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell he had briefly forgotten Azula Tindara Azula Tindara and Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau were inside now. Talking to one another. Or at least traveling towards the liquor cabinet together. Again, nightmare scenario playing out in real time. Only he wasn't going to wake up in a cold sweat in bed.

"Oh, sure, I don't think the liquor is too far off."

Yet he didn't have time to linger on two-thirds of his nightmare scenario playing out. Now Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell and Lady Falentra Lady Falentra had made their way inside and into the kitchen, with his son making the grand announcement that this was his girlfriend. Wait, girlfriend? When did that happen? The name was familiar, wasn't that his friend?

"Er, girlfriend. Nouqai Veil." He clarified, his voice steady as the words hung in the air, his grin widening as he glanced toward Nouqai.

"Girlfriend? Well, Miss Veil, you must be fairly special to agree to brave this group. Welcome."

A bite of that ornate pasty. Judah was taking Myra's advice - lay low, despite the want to ask questions. Putting Bale on the spot in front of family wasn't ideal.

"Oh, sure, I don't think the liquor is too far off."

Yet he didn't have time to linger on two-thirds of his nightmare scenario playing out.

It wasn't hard for the ex-grifter to pick up the panic hiding in the corners of his blue eyes. She'd felt his hesitance around bringing everyone together including friends and family and ex-wife.

Ah, perhaps one that was still in the throes of trying to discern just what their status was? Mild amusement would percolate within the Queen of Trade, but she only gave the seemingly cordial and warm greeting, "Welcome, Miz Veil."

"It's nice to meet you Nouqai," Azula replied. Around Jedi she was keeping her presence closely guarded in the Force. Even then she could still feel it move around the new comer.

"Girlfriend? Well, Miss Veil, you must be fairly special to agree to brave this group. Welcome."

A bite of that ornate pasty.

As she turned to find something to drink with Danger, Azula tried to take a guess at what was amusing the red headed business tycoon.

"I think Balun is keen to get his father's approval," she said to Danger when she felt they were out of earshot.
