SPECIAL FEATURES
- Can switch between Closure Mode (very fast, low firepower) and Engagement Mode (normal speed, good firepower) every five minutes.
- The Matriarch has no blind spots. A target moving around the Matriarch at a consistent range will receive the same amount of punishment regardless of its position.
- The Matriarch can switch between modes.
- Unlike wedge-shaped vessels, the Matriarch can only direct 50% of its firepower against a forward target.
- The commander must choose between speed and firepower in any given situation, and make the right choices at the right times given a five-minute cooldown.
The Queen of Commenor, [member="Lady Kay"] Arenais, contracted the Wretched Hive to modify the Matriarch. Given the ship's aptitude for brawling, the Hive's outlaw techs created an option to close the range efficiently. Once every five minutes, the Matriarch can switch between two modes. In Closure Mode, engines operate at much higher power and efficiency, but primary weapons are inoperable. Defensive weapons remain active. In Engagement Mode, engines operate at normal parameters and primary weapons are functional. The default mode depends on context, mission profile, and the commander's discretion. In general, though, Closure Mode best suits the Commenori emphasis on diplomacy. However, this submission treats Engagement Mode as the default, as it's the mode most directly relevant to combat balance.
The five-minute cooldown between mode changes limits hit-and-run stunts. This ship is designed to get close and start slugging, or, alternately, shunt all weapons' power to engines and escape an untenable situation.
