Everything seemed to be back on track after an initial a cheeky exchange between Elizah and Josh, she even had a giggle watching Elizah dealing with children and Loth cats with great awkwardness. At that moment she reminded her so much of Charlie. Just maybe everything about her wasn't an act. Maybe there was hope.
Naturally, as she was actually happy, the universe sought to ruin her mood.
It all came so quickly, beginning with Yuroic causing a scene with one of the Yumi twins (it was hard to tell at a distance from the back). The altercation went from zero to lightspeed as Yuroic sparked up with a surge of Lightning, a physical manifestation of his anguish.
It was all finally coming out, at the worst possible time.
The muscles in Jyoti’s legs coiled as she prepared to storm right over to Yuroic to finally set him straight, but Josh beat her to the punch. She stayed put, motherly instincts kicking in as she saw him pass Jason onto Scherezade instead of her. Scherezade, the homely looking Sith drinking in broad daylight, who probably couldn’t be trusted to hold one of the animals on display, much less a child.
She was supposed to be Josh’s friend, yet at the first sign of trouble, he didn’t pass Jason onto her as he ran off. It was like a slap in the face, and she felt a greatly diminished desire to help see him out of trouble with Yuroic.
While others in the party and bystanders nearby may have been focusing on Yuroic and Josh, her eyes remained on Scherezade and Jason, contemplating stepping in snatching him away out of the hands of the woman.
Before she could decide, Scherezade made that decision for her after crushing an innocent Porg to death.
Bloody flesh and feathers flew everywhere. Children screamed. Leah fainted right beside her. Allyson almost lost the grip on her popcorn.
Invisible hands brought the Galidraani to a dead stop before she could hit the pavement, her unconscious form raised back up straight before falling into Jyoti’s arm.
That was one person down, but the screaming around them still persisted, now coupled with shouting from adults pointing at Scherezade as she manipulated fire, Jason wailing his head off all the while. Allyson was beside her asking questions, but she wasn’t even paying attention, focus tunneled on two people like a laser.
She could feel it now, people were starting to panic, fear, and anger rising. In that state, people did stupid things, and she could only imagine how the obviously unstable Sith would react.
There would never be a chance. As soon as the crying and shouting had started, it ended, the entire area growing deathly quiet (save for Jason) as all bystanders and animals around them became
frozen in place. Josh, Yuroic, and the others may have become victims of the same fate, as she targeted them, too. Such abilities were difficult to use against other Force Users, but her power was
titanic, trying to smother them all under it like an avalanche. Whether or not they succumbed to it didn’t matter so long as her message got across.
This party was over.
“I just…wanted to have one day,” she said with a sigh, not even looking like she was exerting herself. “Just one quiet afternoon with you all, but you couldn’t even give me that.”
Leah was pulled away from her by telekinesis as before, guiding her toward Allyson.
“Watch her for a minute, please?”
Her eyes shifted toward Elizah, who had been spared of her selective targeting, though largely as consequence as the Echani’s contraption strapped to her neck. While Elizah couldn’t wield the Force, others couldn’t use it against her, either. It was a biomechanical version of a Yasalamir wrapped around her neck, topped off with a micro-pulse neuralizer for an instant knockout if she became a problem.
Jyoti hoped she wouldn’t, hence the lingering gaze.
Finally, she settled upon Scherezade and Jason, the fire manipulation of the Acolyte looking like a cheap power parlor trick in comparison to what she had just done.
Of course, she was sure the Sith could do more, which is why she hadn’t attempted to freeze her, lest she trigger some kind of episode.
“Miss deWinter...”Jyoti started, speaking as calmly as she could manage. “That’s quite enough now…let me have a turn with Jason please, I know how to calm him down.”
She was trying her damnest to restrain herself from taking any other action, but in the back of her mind, the cyborg was already cycling through takedown options, just in case.
