The New Canon and Your Roleplay

And where were the spiders
So, I'm watching the Clone Wars after doing an OT marathon last week. The EU has been a huge part of my... I don't know, childhood/young adult/actual adult life. But its changing.

So many aspects are remaining, so many are changing.

How, if at all, will this effect your roleplaying and story telling?

It won't effect me what so ever

I am not paying any attention to Disney's "Legacies", and viewing everything as Canon as it ought to be with regards to Roleplaying.

Let's face it, we already have our own Site-Canon, Species, Tech... Etc.

EU is still canon in my eyes. It is and always will be. I love it in it entirety. While I'll try to accept this new canon, it can never replace the years of hardwork already done to this franchise I love.

I think it all depends on how the new canon turns out. If it's better than the EU, we'll talk.

Either way, as a site, we need to agree on things to make our collective story consistent. But that too will be a discussion to have in time.

I respect the cannon that Disney is establishing and I am willing to bend my stories to make it work. However I do, when I write fanfictions and write anything fan related to Star Wars, consider the EU my go to writing source.

It will not.

We will continue to respect the current canon with the addition of the new canon.

I don't consider just one of the old, or new EUs to be "the one and only" More so all of it to be cannon, and hand-wave the fact of the "Butterfly Theory" or "Many universes theory" and just be done with it.

Already had the talk, and I think it is pretty evident we'll be accepting both versions of canon.

In the end, none of us are writing canon. I would be highly impressed if any SW writer of any professional capacity were here. They would be the only ones properly capable of answering the OP's prompt, and they would likely be fired for doing so in any official terms.

So, considering the rest of us are effectively writing fanfic, does it matter? For me: no. Others? Maybe. But to each their own.

I've been actively avoiding any aspect of Star Wars lore that isn't either in TOR, the Clone Wars or the Movies (things deemed Canon), so it really bothers me none. My main toons are of Chaos species and the only EU thing I've even come to keep anymore is the Energy Vampirism (which could be easily written off with Sith magic anyways).

The truth of the matter is that there will be plenty of new canon novels, handbooks and material to draw from as the third trilogy progresses and they start outsourcing new works.

To be totally honest, I personally prefer adhering to the new canon, even though I must honor others' usage of the Legends material, because it will be much more progressive and consistent... and not include a few of the ridiculous, ludicrous things Legends had, lol.
