Multi-colored eyes widened when her father increased the pace of his attacks. His blade of green plasma crashed into hers of blue and sent her stumbling back. But even on the back foot, Vera listened to him. She always would. One step at a time, she began to surrender herself to the flow of the Force and allowed it to take over.

It was her guide inside the storm, and she trusted it.

All of a sudden, Vera cleverly dodged underneath one of his swings, rather than trying to block a strike she could never stop.
She turned, pivoted on her feet, and aimed a quick, more subtle sweep at her father's knee. Nothing that could ever kill an opponent, but something that could stop the fight.

That's what defense was all about, right?

Kahlil_Div2.png

Another opponent, an older Vera, and the sweep might've actually worked. That's what Kahlil focused on as he didn't budge in the slightest to her strike. Instead, he brought his blade around once more to chase after her dodge.

"You're searching for an opening. Focusing on trying to disable your opponent. Stop. Stop thinking. Let yourself go, Vera."

Then he raised a hand. The room shifted as he brought about different items, sending them quickly, if gently, to crash into her. Nothing to leave a bruise, but certainly enough to sting.

"Find your center."

Ow.

Ow

Ow-

Enough.

Her father was right — she was trying to defend herself, but she was still looking for ways to strike back. She was thinking too much, and it blinded her even to obvious attacks. But after several small pebbles struck her, Vera allowed the visions to flourish, and let go of her thoughts, emotions, and memories.

She raised her blade up vertically in front of her but didn't move it even an inch, as she subtly moved to dodge the incoming items. Only when she couldn't evade, she'd slice one apart, but with as little energy spent as possible. She kept this up for a while, until.

"Ow!" she blinked as a small pebble hit her forehead. Her lips thinned, her eyes grew bigger and she looked at her father like she was going to cry, but ended up pushing herself through. This time, she was just getting tired, and keeping up with him wasn't that easy anymore. Letting go was not easy.

"Did I do okay?" she then asked, wanting her father's feedback.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil lowered a hand once it was clear Vera was getting tired. It wasn't easy, keeping up that trance. It left the body from feeling exhausted in the moment, but it would eventually overwhelm the mind. That was something they could work on, though. Just like any muscle. He chuckled, reached over to gently pat the top of Vera's head.

"You did fantastic."

Vera didn't move a muscle and kept looking at her father with those same big eyes as he approached. Only when he patted the top of her head and complimented her, she began to smile and bounce up a little. "Yay!" she exclaimed, "I want to show mommy, too!" she then added. The most fun for her was always training with both dad and mom.

"Hmmm..." she then mumbled.

"Mommy says I need to work on the Force too. Can you show me that, too?" She was getting better at visions, but there was a lot more to the Force than that. Valery had already been showing her basic Telekinesis, and she learned a few things in class too. But her dad's abilities were almost mysterious to her, and she wanted to know if he could teach her something too!

"Or do we need to wait for mom?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Teach her more on the Force? He snickered, booping her forehead gently.

"I did teach you something on the Force, you know." He knew what she meant, but he'd never be against teasing her. What kind of father wouldn't make a joke like this?

"But, maybe I can. Is there something in particular you'd like to learn? Consider it a reward for doing so well."

Vera blinked exactly the way her mother would when he booped her forehead. But when he made his joke, she just giggled and gently pushed against his chest, "You know what I meannnn," she squealed and pulled back to think about his question. She had seen him do a few things with the Force, but it was still limited.

Mom and dad were very good at keeping her away from trouble.

"Hmmm, can you teach me-" she booped his forehead this time, and gently nudged a brief memory into his mind. Of when the family was looking for a new home, and ran into trouble. Mom was there in a dress and with guns strapped to her body, but what it focused on was Kahlil flattening an entire building and some thugs with the Force.

His gravity manipulation.

"Can I do that too?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil raised a brow right up. She wanted to learn how to do that?

He shook his head. Chuckled. Of course she did.

"No, no you can't. Not yet, anyway. But, I can show you how to start doing something like that." He raised a hand, brought over one of the pebbles he'd used to throw at her. Let it float above his palm in an almost passive orbit.

"What do you think I'm doing right now?"

Vera pouted when her father said no at first, and was about ready to try her puppy eyes. Not that they ever really worked with him for serious things, but she'd always try! Luckily, he did offer to help her train to one day be able to do it, and that was good enough for her now.

She wanted to become like her dad.

"Uhm... telekinesis?!" she asked excitedly. "Mommy taught me how to stack rocks." And throw them, but she kept that thought to herself. Mom was pretty clear about being careful with it.

Or wait, did that mean dad knew now too?

She smiled innocently and looked at the rock again, now in deeper thought. Gravity pulled things down, right? "Hmm, are you doing the thing but the other way arounddd?" she asked with an elongation of the final world and a very curious look in her eyes.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil snickered, just a little, as he let the rock slowly rotate. Up and down, around. Freely moving it as he could with ease.

"You're thinking about it like the Force obeys science. It's not science, Vera. It's belief. Science has it's part, of course, but I'm not directly manipulating Gravity. Just.. Making the rock float. What do you think, when you see this? When you lift a rock on your own?"

"Making it float..." Vera echoed while she watched the little pebble spin around and move up and down. Her head bopped along a little, and she almost seemed to be in a trance. But when her dad asked her a question about what he was doing, she looked back up quickly and blinked.

"Uhm..." she looked back at the pebble.

"Well, it's different from the visions. They just come and I have to let it go." She looked at her dad. "The rocks are hard because I have to think and uh, ask the Force nicely?" she wasn't quite sure how to explain the Force as an ally or a guide part. It was an extension of herself whenever she used it, but not an easy one.

"Am I doing it wrong?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"That depends on you, really. Our relationship with the Force is never cut and dry, or something we can just say is the same for everyone. The only thing that matters is you don't try to make it work. You don't act in emotion, especially anger or hate. So.. What is the Force to you? When you close your eyes and let yourself feel it, what do you feel?"

He motioned for her to sit, and sat himself. Cross legged, eyes closed. Typical meditation pose at this point, but with the intent of getting Vera to do the same. This was as much teaching the skill as it was teaching his own belief. Though, he did want to make sure whoever did teach her wasn't going to run into her thinking she already knew everything.

After listening to her father, Vera was awfully quiet for a moment. A good sign, because it meant she was actually thinking hard about it, rather than just going back to her usual gremlin self. She then sat down, mimicked her father in the way she sat, and opened one eye to briefly peek in his direction. Just to make sure she got it right.

Then she sighed and closed her eyes again.

"I feel... mommy, and you. Friends." She paused for a moment. "It is a friend... it helps me, and shows me things I have to see, but it never makes me do anything. I don't make it do anything." She wasn't quite sure what else to call it, but a friend seemed like the closest thing to her. Someone or something that would always help her when she needed it, but not like a tool. There was something to respect about it akin to friendship.

"But it is hard, daddy," she then finally admitted as she struggled to focus on a deeper level. "I'm no good with the Force."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Hmm."

Kahlil hummed for a moment, deep in thought, before opening his eyes to watch Vera again. Smiled, after a second before he reached out to poke her forehead. Not just to get her out of her own head, but to add to what he was going to say next.

"Doubt, fear, they're hard to get over. But if you have doubt in your heart, the Force will react the same. Believe in yourself, and the Force will too. And if you have a hard time believing in yourself, just remember that I believe in you."

Vera blinked in a way that exactly mirrored the way her mother blinked whenever Kahlil poked her forehead. She looked at her dad, watched for a moment, and then smiled. That was the real strength of her family. If she had a hard time, mom and dad would always believe in her.

"Thank you, daddy..." she smiled but what seemed innocent at first, suddenly turned into a proper Noble grin of mischief. From her meditative position, Vera lunged forward to tackle her dad, who was still sitting as well. She wrapped her arms around him and tried to wrestle playfully.

But as she made contact, and with the knowledge that her dad (and mom) believed in her, she opened herself to the Force and pulled them both into the future.

div-purple.png
"There are a lot of them coming our way, dad," Vera said, as she stood at the outer perimeter of the village. Together with her dad, she had cleared out the town of thugs after a warlord had tried to take over. The people were all hiding inside their homes with no other protection than the two Jedi.

But now, the warlord himself, a Dark Jedi, was on his way with more armed men.

Vera tugged some locks of hair away and turned to her father. She was calm and felt confident that they could do it, especially because her father was with her. He always believed in her.

"You think we should fight them or lure them into the town, where they have less space?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"The less damage to the town, the better."

Kahlil hummed a little, glancing down the road towards where he could feel the Dark Jedi arriving. It was more likely they'd go around the town, have some sort of sneak attack prepared. But, well. That's what his runic sequence was for. He finished the last line before tapping it. They lit up, etching across the ground in a circle around the village, and at once a bubble formed. A barrier, to keep people out.

"You ready, Padawan Vera?"

"Soooo, the hard way, hm?" Vera looked his way and nodded. She had a feeling that he'd say that, but it meant they'd be a lot more exposed. ...if it wasn't for the runes that her father used to create a protective bubble. No matter how much she learned, some of her parent's skills still just seemed so far beyond what she could ever do.

She shook her head to snap out of it and focused back on the aggressors.

"I'm ready, Master Noble," Vera then said before squinting at the first group of thugs that came her way. She knew the barrier would hold up quite well, but the longer it remained, the better. So, Vera stepped out of the barrier, ignited the blue blade of her lightsaber, and closed her eyes.

She let go.

Blaster fire came raining down upon her, but she moved with her mother's grace and her father's calmness. What she didn't evade, she parried aside and slowly but surely, the distance between her and the attackers got smaller.

<They are afraid,> Vera then communicated to her father, calmly as always. <We don't have to kill them. Just... deter them.>

Kahlil_Div2.png

<Deter them, mm?>

Kahlil stepped beside his daughter, weaving through the blaster fire as passively as he could as he hummed in thought. Most of the attention seemed to be on Vera, on account she'd ignited her blade. Deep down, under the calm he had instilled on himself for the fight, he was beyond proud of her. But right now- He raised a hand, wrote out another of his runes in the air. Another sequence, one he'd actually created more recently.

A flash of light, and suddenly around them was a glowing sphere of light. Not a sphere, no. It took the shape of a body on closer inspection. A beastial form. A massive Bha'lir in appearance, the regal tiger like creature crouching low before suddenly springing forward. It was, ultimately, just shaped light. It could do nothing on it's own. But they didn't seem to know that. Rank broke easily as the creature came barreling down the road, undeterred by the blaster fire that surely should've been hitting it.

<Think that works?>

<DAD>

Vera watched him manipulate the Force to create an animal of pure Light and just seemed shocked. She had heard so many stories from him and mom about the things they'd done together, but this was definitely new. She had been trying to show off and impress him all this time, and he just pulls that out?

Her Soresu progress just felt a lot less interesting.

The Bha'lir then charged at the thugs, and forced them to scatter — it was an opportunity Vera would not ignore. Not this time, with her dad watching and everything. She moved forward, deflected bolts, and disarmed attackers with clever strikes. But right as she felt that she was getting the upper hand, a tremor of danger echoed through the Force. All of a sudden, from just beyond the hills up ahead, three enemy fighters appeared and they opened fire immediately.

With how exposed Vera had made herself, she could not take shelter in the barrier. A large explosion followed that sent her flying off her feet, and just a couple of meters in front of her dad, she hit the ground. Vera was completely still for a few seconds before she groaned and rolled over.

<I'm... okay...> she tried to assure him, as she pushed herself up to hands and knees.

The fighters were coming around for another attack run.

Kahlil_Div2.png

The whirl of engines caught Kahlil off guard. He hadn't heard anything about them having air support. He shouldn't have been surprised, perhaps, but it wasn't a common thing on this world. Didn't matter. The illusion of the Bha'lir faded as he instead shifted back behind the barrier to avoid the shots. The same couldn't be said for Vera, though. His eyes widened for a brief moment as she was thrown back.

His gaze shifted up. She was fine, he knew. It didn't change how he felt, though. He was still her father. But rather than lash out in anger, he raised a hand. The ship that had fired upon them froze midair, all at once. Behind the barrier he was able to just slowly lower his hand, bringing the ship down to settle it on the ground. A flex of his fingers, and he crushed the engines.

"Make sure you're not injured. There's still more ships, and I don't think we'll be able to hold them back for long with just the barrier."
