Vera heard her father's words and saw what he did to the fighter that had nearly blown her apart. That kind of effortless control over the Force really distinguished him and mom from just about anybody. It made her proud to be their daughter, but she also wanted to be able to live up to the name. She knew they'd always love her and be proud of her, but she wanted to help people just like them. She wanted to be as strong, so the people behind that barrier wouldn't have to live in fear.

Slowly, Vera got up to her feet and watched as the thugs opened fire — not at her, but at the barrier. They weren't here to just kill two Jedi. They wanted to take everything out now. But why? Vera just couldn't wrap her head around it and felt the Force surge through her body.

"Stop!" she yelled, and her voice boomed across the battlefield. She raised a hand, the palm facing down, and all the thugs seemed to freeze and straighten out completely. Then, she brought her hand down, and every single one of them was forced against the ground under increased gravity.

None were killed, none were harmed beyond bruising, but none of them could move.

<Dad... the fighters...> she said, her voice strained as the two other fighters came back around.

Kahlil blinked in surprise as he felt the Force surge. It wasn't under his guidance, but the thugs around all froze before crumbling to the ground in a way very reminiscent of his own. Vera. He chuckled after a second, glancing towards his daughter with a proud smile before nodding his head. Then, raised his hands. With the pressure no longer on his barrier, he was able to fully reach out through the Force. Grip at the remaining two ships and just tug them both right down without destroying them. Just, forced them to land before similarly crippling their ability to take off again.

Then, he ignited his saber. Stepped through the barrier.

"You've fought to hurt these people for too long. The Jedi are here, and we have already shown you how impossible your task now is. Leave, and you will survive. Stay and fight, and we will defend these people. No matter what it costs you and yours."

Vera's whole body was tense, her jaw was clenched and her focus was put to the test more than it had been in quite some time. She had never been able to manipulate gravity on demand, and definitely never to this extent, but she felt proud of herself for finally doing it. Mostly because it allowed her to help end this fight without more loss of life.

Her father, of course, perfectly assisted her and brought down the two remaining fighters similarly to the first. It was that display of control and strength that was perhaps far more frightening than just killing these people. Now they knew just how easy it was for the Jedi to stop them, and that killed their morale.

So when Kahlil laid out their options, Vera let go and all of them were on the run.

"Are you sure we should just let them go like that?" Vera then asked her father, after watching the last one disappear from sight. She sighed, turned to him, and offered a slight smile. "What did you think of my move though, dad? I think I finally figured it out," she said, just a little bit proudly.

"Because of you."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"They might go and find somewhere else to terrorize. Or, they might stop all together. Some might leave the group entirely. But, they should be given that choice. We're not here to judge them, or sentence them. Just protect the people here."

Kahlil watched them run. He wouldn't lower the barrier, not until he was certain they were off world, but for now the battle was over. He extinguished his blade before glancing towards Vera. And smiled. Reached down to gently ruffle her hair.

"Don't let it go to your head, is what I should say as a Jedi. But, as your father, you did amazing. You've no idea how happy it makes me that you're so skilled already."

As much as a part of her wanted to go after them and bring them to justice, Vera could live with her father's answer. Perhaps, after seeing what could have happened to them for their crimes, they'd rethink their life choices. She wasn't entirely convinced they would, but she had to give them the benefit of the doubt, right?

Then, her father got closer and ruffled her hair while expressing his pride. For just a second or two, it made her eyes sparkle like she was 7 all over again, and there was even a small bounce in her step. "Heyy, mom told me how you've shown off a little for her and me when I was young. So I want my moments too." She jokingly grinned and wrapped her arms around his waist for a hug.

She was already taller than her mother, so he wasn't towering over her that much.

"Speaking of mom, I think she's back at home waiting for us. Ready to head back?"

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Not often, but I do like to show off when I can."

Kahlil chuckled a little before returning the hug. Just briefly, though. They were still Jedi, and there was still a good number of things left to do. That he reached down to poke her forehead for.

"We'll be here for a couple more days. We're not just going to leave until we're sure this place is safe. That's what it means to be a Jedi. C'mon, we should find a place to sleep for the night."

"Oh I know," She said teasingly before she embraced her father and turned her eyes back to the village. It made sense that they'd stay longer. Make sure that nobody came back, and offer some help rebuilding the few things they lost in the attack. Perhaps talk to them and give them a way to vent their frustrations too.

"Before we help though... mind if we get a bit of rest?" She smiled sheepishly this time.

"This fight really exhausted me." Already, she began looking for a nice place to sit. She chose a tree, even though there were benches or more comfortable places — she just liked being outside, and she wanted her father to join her. So she patted the ground beside her and waited for him to plop down.

"I... was also wanting to ask you a few things."

Kahlil_Div2.png

Kahlil nodded a little, watching her with some concern before sitting down beside her. Plopped down, more accurately. With a groan. He was certainly getting older now, wasn't he? He chuckled at the thought before glancing towards Vera again, smiling softly. With a little concern in his eyes. He was good at hiding his emotions behind the calm expression, but there were some cracks. Always involved his family, though.

Especially Vera.

"Ask away, then."

"Don't act like you're getting old," Vera said with a raised eyebrow and a teasing smirk after her father's groan. "You're like, 50 and Epicanthix... and a Jedi." She rolled her eyes the way her mother would, and swayed against him a little with her side. But as funny as it was to joke around, it was also a way to push back the topics she actually wanted to talk about.

Things that made her nervous at times.

"So there are a few things, unrelated, but..." she sighed. "How do you handle so much responsibility? The more I learn about visions, the more Jedi look at me for guidance with them. But what if I mess up? I still don't understand nearly everything I see, but people put their trust in me. The way they do in you, and in mom."

"I just... don't know how to deal with all of it."

Kahlil_Div2.png

"Oh. We're talking about that. Alright. Uh. Well."

Kahlil chuckled nervously, scratching at his cheek. It wasn't the type of conversation he was prepared to have. And, honestly, not something he put much thought into. His chuckle faded to a calm smile and he stared out to the barrier.

"I don't think about it. I just.. help people. As best I can. And even when I fail, I just try to do better next time." He reached out, booping her forehead gently. "So.. Don't over think it, I guess is my advice."

Everything he said made sense, but it almost looked as if the forehead boop was the thing that pushed it all into her brain. Vera just blinked, turned to her father, and began to smile. "Just... help people and try to do better?" she chuckled once and leaned her head back against the tree trunk.

"You make it sound so easy. But maybe it is, and I just, yeah... overthink."

Now, who would she have that from?

Vera then turned her gaze to her father and seemed a little more hesitant than before, "Speaking of overthinking... you and mom won't actually get mad if I liked someone, right?" She smirked, but there was more to it. "I'm just, not sure." She paused for a moment, her thoughts a completely chaotic mess.

"How did you know mom was the one? You've told me about how you met, and mom always gushes over it all, but how do you know that it's something special? How did you know?" She was, of course, genuinely curious about her parents and what it was like for them, but she also asked to figure it out for herself.

Or maybe she was just overthinking it again.

Kahlil_Div2.png

Ah now they were on that subject. He chuckled a little more obviously nervous this time. What a deep subject to just jump into. He cleared his throat, hummed in thought. "Depends. Might beat em up a little. .. But, it's not really- I'm not sure how to describe it, honestly. It just felt.. Right. Being with your mom. I don't have any other words. .. When you know, you'll know, I guess is the best way to explain it."

He paused.

"Is there someone you have in mind? Someone I need to beat up?"

"Dad."

Vera narrowed her eyes at him and tried to see if he was actually serious. He wasn't... right? She looked at him again and actually didn't feel all that certain. One thing was for sure though — if a boy she liked broke her heart or caused her trouble, he'd really regret ever meeting her. Both mom and dad would end him.

Then Kahlil talked about how he felt with her mother, and Vera shuddered, "Ugh, you're just like mom. But she's even worse. When I asked her about you, she just wouldn't stop talking." Vera chuckled all the same because she really loved her parents, even if mom especially could get on her nerves sometimes.

She was just too protective.

Then he paused, and Vera just gulped when he asked a question.

"...No."

"Nope."

He'd totally buy that, right?

Vera raised an eyebrow, "Mom does a pretty good impression of when you get all Jedi like this," she said, this time to tease him. She took some shots at her mom, so why not mess with her dad a little too? But jokes aside, she did understand what he meant, and nodded to show that.

"You and mom made it work, right? I know that hasn't always been easy but... at least I have you two to help." She then blinked and slowly looked at her dad. "Not that I need it now, of course."

She quickly got up to stretch her legs and dodge possible counter-attacks, before looking down at him. "So, what's next? We help them rebuild a little?"

Vera knew what that look of his meant, but pretended to be completely oblivious. She just smiled, inched closer, and rested her head against his shoulder. With the comfort of her father by her side, she closed her eyes and steadied her breathing, so she could get just a little bit of sleep in.

"When we get home, pancakes?" she whispered.

Might as well try, right?

When their eyes opened inside Vera's bedroom on the Bastion, Vera was on top of her dad after her tackle. She giggled and noticed that they were no longer alone either. Mom was back, and sitting on top of her bed, just watching two of her 5 most favorite people in the Galaxy spending time together.

"Missed me?" Valery smirked.

"Mommy!" Vera climbed off her father, ran over, and gave her mom the biggest hug. "Come here, little star," Valery smiled, picked her up, and walked over to Kahlil to give him a quick kiss. "Mission went well, so I could make it back pretty quick." Which meant his promise to Vera came true.

"So if you two want some family time with me..." she trailed off and looked between the two.

Kahlil_Div2.png

And like that, the vision was over. Kahlil blinked slowly as he watched Vera, then smiled brightly as he instead reached out to touch the top of her head. Then looked up to Valery with another small laugh. That was a surprise. He just reached up, pulling her down into the cuddle pile top hug them both close.

"All the family time we can get, I want. Let's watch a movie."

Well, she wasn't expecting that.

Valery squealed as loud as Vera when he pulled her down, and into the cuddle pile with Vera. Their little star seemed to really love it, and just couldn't stop lauging as her father held them close and tight. Valery, of course, loved it just as much.

"This is nice," she said softly, her eyes meeting her husband's with a loving smile. She then leaned closer for another quick kiss, but Vera wasn't going to accept not getting one, and squeezed herself in between.

Valery snickered, kissed hee cheek and sat up to sweep her hair out of her face. "A movie before bed time sounds nice. I picked up some food on the way home too, so we're all set." She winked and Vera jumped up with a grin. "I'll turn on the holo!" She exclaimed before running off.

"I uh, need to attend a diplomatic meeting soon. Will be several days away from home." She sighed and took the few seconds alone with her husband for a close embrace. "Maybe we can do a date night or something together before I leave? It has been a long time." It was only now, after 9 months of pregnancy and several months of getting adjusted, that she could even think about a date or some time with just her husband.

She was feeling a need for something romantic with him. Or at least, something that gave them some time to be close and focus on their love for each other.
