The Princess and the crow

Ugh... He just had to come in here. He just had to?

She tried her best not to draw attention to herself. Thankfully, over the roaring winds, the soft clink of her heels were almost entirely muffled. Almost. She went through one row of shelves, bored. These were all boring. What was he reading?

She went right up to where he was reading, rested one hand on the table, and leaned over to see what this Owain guy was so interested in. She couldn't help it. She was nosy.

"Ooo. Jedi combat? Look at you! Get beat up by a girl, and you get right to work."

The blond girl laughed, pushing away from the table just in case he tried to take a swing at her in revenge. It would serve her right, she knew, coming back to torment him again. But boredom was difficult to cure, and she actually liked a challenge. Arguing was fun, and Celeste was no good at it.

Owain suppressed the yelp as he twisted in hsi seat, startled. Oh, songbird. Cute. So much for avoiding her. SHe had dnaced out of range, so instead he just hurled the book at her. "Flap off birdie, I'm studying here. Not all of us get to have fnacy tutors telling us how the universe works. Some of us actually have to rightfully earn that knowledge," he snapped at her, picking up another book, this one about various mechanics and maintenance routines, and began to skim read it. "Shouldn't you be packing? Or leaving?"

Felicity bent over, letting the book fly over her, hitting the shelf behind her. She looked at it for a moment, then went to pick it up.

"Oh, shut it," she yawned, opening the book to flip through it herself, "I've finished packing, and I leave in three days. Don't worry. I'll be gone before you know it."

She snapped the book shut again, and set it down hard on the table. Less interesting than she thought. She made a face, the urge to hit him again building.

"Try not to miss me too much."

He clenched his fists as the girl kept talking. He took a deep breath and counted to ten before exhaling. "So...what, you got nothing better to do than vex me, brat?" he snapped, flipping a few more pages. "Oh don't worry," he started, carefully listening to her voice. It was alright, as far as voices went. Just a shame who it belonged to. There! He spun in his seat and pitched another book striaght at the girl. "I won't miss you!"

It was kinda funny how annoyed he was getting. Just from her standing there. It took her a moment to realize something. They both had something in common after all. He hated her just as much as she hated him. It was something , at least.

She was about to reply with something witty, but the book flew at her again and this time she wasn't fast enough. With a soft thud she was hit in the shoulder.

"Ugh... what was that!? My daddy's library is not your personal arsenal."

What kind of psycho threw books of all things?

He smirked in victory at having managed to land a hit. "That's what you get for messing with a Barnabus!" he declared, pointing at the girl as if he could smite her with a thought. "Now run along before daddy finds out you're sneaking around past your bedtime!"

[member="Felicity Mason"]

Felicity narrowed her big blue eyes. She seriously hated that smile. And she hated it even more when he said 'daddy'. How dare he even mention him? He didn't know her father! Knew nothing about him! She would bet anything that if her Daddy was here right now, he'd be keeping his big beak shut!

"You aren't very smart. Didn't learn your lesson the first time. You better figure out your place," she snarled, rolling up her sleeves, "or I'll just have to teach you what happens when you mess with a Mason. How's your lip again? Want your eye to match? "

It was at that moment that Celeste looked in, cleared her throat and sang out once again;

"Felicity has a boyfriend! Felicity has a booooyfriend!"

"Oh bring it!" he snarled, pushing away from the desk and adopting a boxing stnace. If she was the one who threw the first punch, then he'd be justified in defending himself. He wasn't going to tolerate her disrespect anymore!

And then a jawa appeared singing about Felicity having a boyfriend. Owain's eyebrows shot up as his gaze flickered to the door, where a much younger girl was smiling in a positively Evil way. "W-what?" he asked in disbelieve, completely forgetting what he was meant to be doing.

The little Princess was more than ready to defend her own honor here. Nobody was going to get away with insulting her. Nobody!
...Nobody except the youngest Mason girl, who at that moment, decided to make an appearance. The elder sister stood frozen in place, going white as a sheet, to red as blood in seconds.
Mortified was the word.

"C-Celeste! Get out of here!"

The child shook her head, grinning even wider.

"Felicity's got a boyfriend!"

"I do not! UGH!" She scooped up one of the books off of the table and hurled it at the little girl who gasped and ducked out of the library, closing the door behind her. The heavy book hit the door with a loud thud. Face red with rage, panting heavily, she had forgotten for the moment about Owain.

"Uhm..."

Well THAT had been unexpected. And completely took the wind out of him. Sighing in annoynace he stomped over to the desk and sat back down, flipping open yet another book, triyng to put THAT awkwardness behind him. Him? That songbird's boyfired? Hah. As if. They couldn't even stay in the same room as one another without trying to inflict harm upon the other. SHe looked pretty sure, but her haughty attitude was a major turn off.

[member="Felicity Mason"]

She growled quietly, still glaring at the door. Her? And this guy? The very idea! She'd never, ever date someone like him! He was so rude and so incredibly stupid! She hated stupid boys! He was a stupid, stupid crow!
Besides, she knew she was too good for him. There were plenty of boys her age at the Academy, all from nice families, all with promising futures in politics. And some of them were even good looking. She was popular and smart! If she actually wanted a boyfriend, she would have found one by now. The only reason she didn't have one was just because she didn't want one! It wasn't because she was awkward and the boys were afraid of her or anything! She was a delicate little flower! Honestly!

She slammed her fist into the table, reached out for another chair, and sat down on the opposite side of the table without a word of explanation. She snatched up a book at random, cracked it open and buried her face in it, as if she didn't even notice Owain anymore. She was just too angry now to be bothered with it.

A smart aleck comment came to his lips as she furiously sat down, but he kept it to himself. Why the heck didn't she go back to her room? Did she have nothing else to do but infuriate him? He focused on the book in his hands, but her continued presence was like an itch he just couldn't scratch. And it was driving him insane. He couldn't ask her to leave - it was her house after all, she held the home field advantage. But if he left first, it would appear like he was fleeing from her, which was certainly not the case. Oh no. He was not afriad of this hard-headed blonde. She would have to do much more than she was to earn his notice! So he sat there in stubborn silence, trying to read the same page over and over, his gaze flickering to Felicity now and again, waiting for her to leave already.

[member="Felicity Mason"]

Seriously. The nerve. She wasn't even reading now, just staring at the page of some book that she didn't even know the title of. When she saw Celeste next, she was going to punish her. Somehow. She was going to have to think of something completely evil. But what? Maybe she could cut her dolls hair. Or she could paint her face in her sleep? She'd find something.

"Ugh.... Can you believe her?" she asked out loud, so angry at Celeste now that Owain was only a minor bother, "Ridiculous! I mean, seriously. Who would ever like you?"

He snapped the book shut and gave the girl a flat look. Really, back to the insults? How uninspired. "No, I can't. Who is she anyway?" he asked. Another girl his uncle babysat? Sheesh, thank goodness he was here - his uncle was ind anger of this estrogen brigade. "Oh wow, hurtful," he replied with a roll of his eyes. "Guess you'd know a thing or two about not being liked. Bet they call you Ice Princess at school too. Or were you homeschooled becuase not even the teachers could put up with you?"

[member="Felicity Mason"]

Felicity made a face, choosing for he moment not to punch him. Not yet, anyway.

"My sister," she grumbled, "Celeste. She's a brat."

She snapped her book shut, eyes narrowed. Annoyed as she was with Celeste, she was her sister. She'd forgive her for anything. But this guy? He only had to look at her the wrong way and she'd want to knock him out.

"I'll have you know that I'm actually quite popular at school. Top of my class too. Did you even go to school? You're so stupid, my guess is no."

Aaaah that explained it. The annoying trait must be hereditary then. He nodded before leaning back in his chair, staring at her levelly before grinning somewhat. "Popular? Really? What makes you say that?" he prodded, curious. Maybe he could burst her little bubble of self-importance. And then she offered up her own head on a silver platter. He alughed at her. "No, I went somewhere more challenging - military academy. Where they terach you what you need to know to get ahead in life, rather than just what you think you need to know to feel like you've accomplished something."

[member="Felicity Mason"]

The blond leaned back in her chair too, imitating. She rolled her eyes, arms crossed. She didn't have to explain anything to him. All he needed to know was that people liked her in school. Well, at least they liked her family. That was the same thing, right? She was always invited to the important parties. People were always nice to her. She had a lot of friends.
Well... she thought she did, anyway.

"Oh. So a dumb military brute," she yawned, waving her hand as if this very fact made him less than human to her, "No wonder. It explains everything about you. No brain... and no muscle either, from the looks of you. So what? You failed out of murder school then?"

[member="Owain"]

"Oh I know about murder. Enough to get away with it," he idly noted, yawning. This amusement was certainly distracting. "And what, you expect me to believe you know anything that could threaten me? Poor child, thinking you're actually relevant," he sneered, standing up. Retreats be damned. He had better things to do than talk to her. Like count the tiles on his ceiling.

[member="Felicity Mason"]

Ooo. So he was going to threaten her now. He needed to quit making it so fun to bother him.She was going to want to press his buttons again and again until she left at this rate.

"You're almost the same age as me. Don't give me that 'poor child' chit!"

She let him stand up. Maybe he'd run away to the guest room now. Shame, actually. Getting him worked up was the most fun she'd had in weeks!
How sad was that?

He fienged being wounded, hand going to his chest before snorting in contempt. "Oh what strong language, and from a princess no less. And here I thought you'd know some manners," he said, turning his back on her and walking out of the library. URGH. She was such a pain, it was a miracle he hadn't tried to punch her in her pretty little face. Shake some reality into her maybe. Honestly, who the heck did she think she was?
