The Restoration of Ahto City [The Republic]

Manaan
Ahto City
Ahto_City_zps1e498f0c.jpg

It was a humid day, which was relatively unavoidable considering all the water that surrounded the pristine pearl structure, mixed with the warm sun heating the atmosphere. Still, those that had volunteered for this mission worked diligently in the heat. Above the sloshing of the waves, and boots against the water, the sound of droids whirring could be heard and conversation filled with instructions and problem-solving.

But a recent memory, The Sith had attacked Manaan and The Republic had defended it’s people. In doing so, however, one of the Jedi had wreaked havoc on the structure and caused a majority of the city to submerge to the powerful waters that surrounded the city. In a sick way, it was somewhat funny. Ahto City was supposed to be the only above-surface city on the planet, but that had been altered slightly by a torrent of destructive winds that had successfully eradicated a majority of the Sith army but too, unfortunately, a part of the surface. It was this portion of destruction that the galaxy was focusing on, not on the salvation of the people.

So, despite Kiskla’s loathing for tedious missions such as these, it had to be done. Let the galaxy see that The Republic cared for it’s people, and recognized it’s mistakes. Selkath’s structure was being rebuilt, bit by bit, and every drop of sweat and heave went to a good cause.

"Reinforcements just came in at the east port, Master Grayson." One of the assistants commented. He wasn't a Manaan native, but still a citizen of the Republic. A young man, probably about twenty-three and had come on the shuttle over to restore the capital along with other soldiers. Any able-bodied person was welcome. Anaxes had also contributed some of their naval crew in training as support capital. The more bodies meant more efficiency. It was good, but Kiskla truly hoped that Master Ike would be here, considering she was the root of a majority of this destruction. It would help with the message they were trying to send. "Where would you like them?"

Currently, she was still wading in wader that ended just before her ankles. When the young blonde turned to face the attendance, ripples rolled away from her boots. "What were the crates marked with?"
The attendant shrugged balefully.

"Alright, back to your post. Thank you for the notification." Seeming as that was enough of a dismissal, the aid toddered off to help his mates give a downward pull to something that would balance out with the laws of physics with some sort of axis description. In the end, it was helping raise the floor that had been sunk.

Kicking her leg over the side of a speeder, one that had been offered to the clean up crews, she zipped across the surface of the water toward the eastern port where a Republic vessel had just docked with some elusive reinforcements. Likely food to be distributed to the local vendors, as trade was just beginning to pick up again after some negotiations.

Upon hearing of the reconstruction and healing of the city Ahto Nasika had volunteered her services to see it rebuilt. While she wasn't there for the battle itself, having not been a Jedi yet, she'd begun hearing stories of how the Sith had destroyed almost all of it in the process. It surprised her to know the Sith were that destructive in their cause, though it was hardly a surprise given how her last encounter with the Sith involved the brutality of Darth Volcanous. Being that Nasika had wanted to peruse the teachings of a Jedi Consular and healer, the healing of an entire city was as good as any place to start.

When the Republic Vessel arrived Nasika had been among those helping to carry out the large crates of supplies needed for the reconstruction. She nodded to others whom she passed, indicating she was helping as best she could and that she could handle what she needed. After helping with three crates Nasika looked and saw as @[member="Kiskla Grayson"] arrived on her speeder. When she did Nasika gave a quick bow to her before continuing with her duties.

@[member="Kiskla Grayson"]

Stepping off the Republic vessel is Coci Sinopi. She raised her arm to shield her black eyes from the glaring sun reflecting off the surface of the city, the day is long and hot and she is very pleased she had come dressed much differently to her usual way. No black body suit required for this job, but instead she had dressed in white, no robes but trousers and shirt made of linen, the only difference was her black boots and brown belt, on which her saber is clipped.

Her black eyes narrowed to aid the filtration of the light, her black pupils narrowed but still she see more then most, unusual for any sentient being. She turned her head as the sound of a speeder approached, and embarking for it the form of Jedi Master Kiskla Grayson, a woman she had meet before on a secret mission.

Only the slightest of smiles greeted the woman as Coci approached .. "Greetings Master Grayson, a pleasure to see you again. How may I be of assistance?".

Master Grayson,

On behalf of the Silk employees who were injured or killed during the attack on Ahto City, I would like to extend my respects to you for your efforts in rebuilding. When Republic forces sank a third of the city to kill a Sith army, the Silk Holdings kolto facility was seriously damaged, and most of our casualties took place then and there. While it would be within our rights to sue the Republic for compensation for the families of those affected, as well as damages to the galaxy's only kolto mass distribution company, we do not intend to take legal action. Instead, we propose a partnership. Your reconstruction effort implies that the Republic is willing to pay the costs of its own actions, and we would request full and voluntary compensation for damages, medical expenses, and harm to our employees and their families. I wouldn't want you to think that this is a corporation using its employees' pain for leverage; I was one of the Silk Holdings personnel injured at Ahto City, and was in a medically induced coma for some time afterward. I understand the pain of my employees.

If full and voluntary recompense is forthcoming, Silk will coordinate its existing Ahto City reconstruction efforts with yours, under your authority, and return the Republic to its list of trustworthy host governments. We have worked with the Republic in the past, crafting hyperlanes, providing the mobile Jedi Academy ships which your Order uses to such great effect, consulting with the Supreme Chancellor at the Top Secret level, and constructing the MC180 Remembrance-class, your most powerful current line of command ships. We would like to be able to continue to work with the Republic.

In good faith,
Selka Ventus, CEO

Kiskla waited while the Republic marked freighter's ramps hissed to lower. With a single motion, she parked her speeder and dismounted it, crossing to assist with the unload. Hopefully more Jedi would be aboard this vessel. She was delighted to see that there were, and a Padawan at that. The young one's heart was better than Kiskla's had been at that age; she would have only appeared if her Master had dragged her there while his droid called her a talkative meatbag. She returned the bow with a slight twist of her own waist.

"Good to see you here, Padawan." Kiskla smiled "I'm sorry, I don't know your name." Today would be a good day to change that! By the good graces of role play, there was enough time for the Padawan to reply before the blonde master's attention was diverted.

"Welcome, Coci." Kiskla smiled with an ease that surprised her. "No need for formalities here. We're all working together for the betterment of this place." And atoning for their mistakes, but that would go as an unspoken understanding. "That goes for you too--" the pretty master instructed the blue-skinned Jedi with a tone that mocked a command.

"This freighter needs help unloading. I believe there are medical supplies in here, that should be directed to that tent." She shifted her angle, so she could accurately point to a pitched white tarp where there was a line up of young and old to see Jedi healers and regular medics. It was just at the border of the city rubble. "You can load my speeder and take it there if you like. I'll help you."

That said, she moved to crouch beneath a stack of three crates. Traditionally, one would be enough, but The Force was a useful ally that helped speed up many a process. They floated slightly above Kiskla's palms. Down the ramp they went, and back into the small pools of water at the bottom of the metallic strip. A trailer was being hitched to the speeder Kiskla had arrived in, and she added the three crates. She was about to turn back and get more when a droid hovered above the film of liquid and beeped at her.

She tensed, and looked it over. A message for her. She opened it.

There was a reason Kiskla had chosen to head this initiative. It wasn't because she loved physical labour, and the bittersweet looks from the locals, but because Ahto City had been one of the evidences she produced to the council as a warning for The Republic's behaviour. She understood it's political sway and implications. Therefore, who better to head the field team than a Jedi trained to be a weapon, with a naturally silver tongue? The truth was ugly, but somehow it sounded better produced from a pretty mouth. I mean, Matsu Ike taking the initiative would have been leagues more resounding, but alas. She was taking her house arrest very seriously.

Nevertheless, the contents of the message that was delivered on a datapad to her by a droid made her plump lips twist. What got her was the suggestion of voluntary compensation. Certainly didn't sound voluntary, since the woman had implied suing but sentences before. With a world weary sigh, the blonde read on. She'd heard of silk holdings before and seen their names in records. She would have run her fingers through her hair, but it was tied back. Instead, she scrunched the bun in thought and closed her eyes. In reality, The Republic couldn't afford any more hits from the media. Going to court with a major company would not only lose them capital, but also public support; especially if stories of the destruction met otherwise naive ears. And the woman did mention the extent of her damages; a painful experience indeed. Comatose. Kiskla had been in a medically induced coma recently as a result of Vong poison--- but a natural one? No dice.

“Send me the coordinates to Silk Holdings HQ.” Kiskla instructed the droid, who blipped in assumed agreement. Within seconds, her data pad lit up. She wanted to assess the damages — more than anything she wanted to respond immediately to the notification. But, since there was no read receipt, all was hunky dory and could wait a moment or two.

“I’ll be back in a bit, Coci. Thanks again for your help.”

Then, she sought out a speeder.

Nasika stopped when @[member="Kiskla Grayson"] asked her name, at which point she bowed and said "Nasika Serizawa, ma'am." After that she returned to her duties after seeing her speaking with @[member="Coci Sinopi"] and then read the letter from @[member="Selka Ventus"]. Given how she was reacting to it Nasika seemed a little worried, perhaps it was just her though. Regardless she knew the one thing she had to do was dealing with this supplies and then try to help rebuilding the city itself. That's when she saw Master Grayon say she needed to go, Nasika looking oddly but saying nothing. It was odd that she left after just arriving but then again a Jedi master's work was likely never over.

The headquarters of Silk Holdings were something to scoff at. And she did snort slightly. Half of what would have been an impressive building, was sunk into the ground in a mass of crumpled rubble.

Kiskla once again, stepped down from her parked speeder and crossed the rubble that was quite a distance from where the Republic rebuilding focus was. She waded through muddy waters, and up what would have been stairs. Around the building was a lingering aura of pain, and when she dropped to a knee, she could see the crumbling devastation as it happened. She tensed visibly.
Kiskla had been on Dac when the Sith had responded and attacked Manaan, and hadn’t seen the devastation for herself. Now, however, with her psychometery, it was as if she were present during the invasion. The sky was alit with streaks of red and blue plasma, and feet ran over these steps to reach the main area of fighting. Then, a gust of invisible ripped at the foundation of the facility and tore it down — then the vision was over. She frowned, and spread her fingers a little wider, her knuckles going white with the pressure of her focus. She went deeper, watching all the steps of those who had walked over these stairs into their jobs. The clicks of heels reverberated through her metaphysical ears, and there was conversation being carried gaily about developments and investments. Business stuff.

She stood, and walked deeper, maintaing her connection by running her bare hands over whatever stone was exposed. As she progressed into the building and it’s dangerous overhang, more and more was revealed that allowed the CEO’s message credibility.

She curled her fingers into her palms and looked around, having got lost in the vision. She was surrounded by sparking wires and crumbling cement. The ceiling was not a ceiling at all, but a collapsed floor that had fallen from above. Now, it threatened to fall further.

This would be an investment, and on top of medical expenses? It’s unfortunately something she’d have to pass with those who did The Republic’s banking.

Supreme Chancellor and Vice Chancellor,

I’ve received a message from the CEO of Silk Holdings requesting compensation for their losses on Ahto City.

I’ve attached the relevant content to this message. Please respond.

Manaan City, a beatiful jewel in the middle of a vast ocean... so vast that consisted in most of the planet while less than 1% consisted in the metalic floor that they were now stepping on.

As soon as Vexander and his team dropped off from the transport, the corellian directed the sniper squad under his command to look around and secure the area... they didn't actually expect any trouble... but as a former military officer and as a member of the Order, he knew that he had to develop contingency plans... and having eyes from high places was one of the best plans Jedi could have.

Looking at the commander with a strong and determined voice he just relayed the order "You know the drill Commander." With a nod, the man signaled the high buildings around the city in order to cover everything.

However, from his side, the young man proceeded to walk straight to Master Grayson's location. Once that he stood close to the blonde, he bowed his head slightly "Master Grayson if I may..." the Knight waited patiently for the Master's attention although he knew that she was quite busy "...we are movilizing a small team to cover ourselves, still; is there anything else I might do? or should I stick with the defense?" honestly, he hoped that she would just assign him more security duties... more chance for action and also just what he loved to perform.

Coci assisted the crate of medical supplies coming down from the ramp as Master Grayson ..using the force .. unloaded them. The Speeder would be ready to go shortly and Coci would take them to the white tent as directed. More was needed as there are many crates to be delivered around the city. However, Master Grayson had to leave, some urgent dispatch required her attention but that was fine Coci and the Padawan she had not met yet could take over the operations here.

"Greeting Padawan, I am Coci", she smiled at the blue girl @[member="Nasika Serizawa"] . "Shall we deliver these supplies? .. there is much more to do still". Coci swung her leg over the speeder and into the pilot seat, and indicated for the Padawan to join her if she wished. The first delivery was ready to go.

While she waited her black eyes found a wonderful sight slightly in the distance, a sight she linger on for a moment. The figure of a Knight, @[member="Vexander Graves"] and a smile broke over her face. Today there is no need for focus as this is not a dangerous mission as such and so she allow this indulgence and distraction. Her elbow rested on the side of the speeder and so too her chin on her elbow, and she continued to look while waiting for the Padawan, at this moment the Padawan could take all the time she needed. Coci was in no hurry just at this point.

Harkness perked up when he got the message and raised an eyebrow getting out of the bed and taking the pad as it chirped. He rubbed his eyes while he read it. Then he moved to the window and stood there waving to the man across the way who usually snapped some holo pics of the latest chancellor liaison which he was glad to give. No secrets needed but now he sent a message back to the master jedi. "Use the resources needed to see to it being done properly. This won't be a blank check master jedi but legitimate grievances are important. Any fraudulent claims have them rooted out and pass along that meetings with Jorus I would prefer he not share with others in the future please."

Some Republic and Jedi forces never left Ahto, they'd been there since the invasion came to a close, one of those people was Cale. "Yeah, we need the food shipment to the refugee came two blocks down, the construction poodoo goes five up." Cale stated, instructing troopers to get recently offloaded supplies to their proper locations. He'd stopped counting days a while ago, all that mattered was getting everything and every one back together again.

The Knigh probably should've been hunting down what remained of the Sith instead of aiding in relief efforts, yet here he was. It wasn't like he could leave anyway, he'd let his starfighter be stripped apart so parts could be used to hold the damage at bay prior to the main effort's arrival, and he didn't regret it. After all, this is what being a Jedi was about.

The air around her was heavy, and there were sounds of shifting stones around her. Steady streams of grit cascaded down the walls as heavier bits of the structure groaned and threatened to come crashing down further.

Kiskla wandered back the way she had come, but no longer thinking about Silk Holdings. Instead, she was thinking about all the other buildings that had been affected similarly. This was why she had brought this forth to The Council when Master Halcyon was grandmaster. They'd brushed it off. It was seeing this that she understood where Rosa and Seroth were coming from.

With a world weary sigh, she stepped from the shadowy ruins of the business into the sunshine. With a quick step, she was back on her speeder and not looking back. She had to wait on the correspondence back from the chancellor before responding to the woman's claim. It wouldn't be right for a Jedi to overstep the jurisdiction of a Republic official.

With the Supreme Chancellor's approval, she opened the thread to the woman and responded. Unfortunately, it was business and her empathy couldn’t be expressed with words. She could appeal to the woman’s sign off, however regarding her faith.

Selka Ventus,

My sincerest apologies for your losses. It’s experiences like yours, and ones similar that have prompted The Republic’s restoration attempts.

As for your proposition, The Republic would also like to continue forth with it’s previous relationship with Silk Holdings. With the Supreme Chancellor’s approval, your request for recompense will be met within reason. Please forward the appropriate medical and personal files of your employees to the attached address for the process to begin.

She hadn't been back to the camp for long when a Vexander Graves approached her. Security detailing? Ah yes, they were still a liability and exposed for pending attacks.

It was time to move, and Coci returned her attention back to the job and the need for the supplies to get to their destination. She pushed the speeder forward and soon they had arrived to the white tent. Many sentient beings gathered to unload the speeder and soon the supplies are put to good use.

Coci did not hesitate, and turned the speeder back to the ship to continue the process.

The Councilour seemed to be quite interested in the Knight's control over physical objects with his mind. It is funny... perhaps she knew quite a bit about himself, but that was one of his specialities.

Looking straight to the blonde Master, the Knight proceeded to reply.

"I constantly use telekinesis ma'am." said Vex while he touched and caressed his beard... a small but common mannerism on him.

Kiskla of course had no idea about the qualifications of the Knight. She should have, perhaps, but that was Rasu Gan's specialty. As it so happened, it was purely convenience that @[member="Vexander Graves"] was proficient with telekinesis.

"Good." Came the short reply, as she pointed to the struggling soldiers who were assisting the droids with balancing one of the sinking platforms. There was much anxiety that encircled the workers, and she wanted to relieve it as well a hurry the job while giving one of her own something to do.

"See of you can assist in levelling that platform from afar. It's going to take them quite some time on their own merits." She paused before the final send off "And try not to be seen. We don't want the Republic's citizens to think Jedi are seeking all the glory for themselves with The Force."

Master Grayson,

The appropriate records and damage invoices have been forwarded to the official in question. Thank you for your prompt assistance. I've made Silk Holdings recovery assets available to you and your people, including MandalMotors/EDY KKT-74 construction vehicles, qualified operators, and instruction manuals for operation. Also, our public bacta/kolto/kolcta distribution venues on Ahto City will now cooperate with you more closely.

Thank you for your efforts to restore the public's trust in the Jedi Order. As a former member of the Agricultural Corps, I can sympathize with the colossal public relations challenge you face.

Objective -- Provide medical relief to those who may need it.

Reconstruction had many layers, but one of the most basic dealt with providing for any injured or sick. This was the focus of the Zabrak Jedi Knight, who braved the humidity and high winds in a full voss mystic cowl. Preparations had been sent along with materials and crates full of medical supplies.

While they were more than able to provide a triage area, this focus was in rebuilding the local hospital. She held a small datapad in hand, where she slowly went about checking off the crates in the manifest that were being unloaded from the transport in front of her.

@Kiskla Grayson @Vexander Graves @Coci Sinopi @Cale Gunderson @Jack Harkness @Nasika Serizawa

OBJECTIVE: Aid the Selkath scientists and agricultural engineers repair the damaged Kolto beds underwater.
Deep underwater, Erinyes having shifted to the physiology of a Selkath, worked side by side with the aquatic scientists and agricultural engineers who were in the midst of repairing the damage to the precious Kolto beds.

A dozen different type of fish swam in shimmering colorful schools, the thick kelp beds of Kolto swaying back and fro in the calming silence of the sea. Other Jedi were here as well, those who had more of an aquatic affinity as well as those wearing underwater suits.

There was much to do in order to repair the kolto beds; the planting of seedlings, clearing out of debris, and ensuring power was properly diverted into the underwater agricultural center that housed the underwater granaries.

"That has the sound of wisdom to me," said a quiet voice, and a woman in battered spacer's clothes limped out of a earby corridor, her gimer stick tap-tapping on the white metal deck. "Then again, Master Grayson, many here may believe that the Jedi were responsible for the disaster, coming as it did during the concentrated storm which Matsu Ike directed against the city. But I'm sure your presence here will bring enough goodwill.

"I've decided the time is right to return to the Jedi Order, come what may. I have no wish to make today, this place or time, about me; I'm simply here to lend a hand, and to speak with the leader of the Council of Reconciliation. As leader of that council, yours is the crucial voice. May I work alongside you, Master Grayson? I owe this world -- their kolto healers eased my pain when I was dying of cancer. I'd like to ease some of their pain in return."

Adept at inserting himself where it made sense, where he could apply himself best, Meeristali Peradun was right in there with the droids and soldiers - having been one himself right up until recently - attempting to make that platform level. What little Jedi training he had received thus far in large classes amongst others would not be of much help here, but the years under his belt as a soldier provided a solid work ethic, plenty of applicable elbow grease, and the musculature to endure it.

His felacatian strength was a welcome boost, but even so, it was not quite enough. The platform was a difficult, unwieldy beast of an inanimate object, and they would need more bodies, or advantage - mechanical or otherwise. These things going through his mind, he kept at it, feeling some glimmer of gladness that he could be useful in some way.
