OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a major shipyard location for TSE
  • Image Credit: Click - Wookieepedia
  • Canon: Mon Cala Shipyards
  • Links: N/A
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Shipyards Name: The Shipyards of Mon Cala
  • Classification: Orbital Ring Yard
  • Location: Mon Cala
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire
  • Population: Heavily Staffed
  • Accessibility: With Mon Cala under heavy quarantine following the tumultuous Battle of Mon Cala, access to the shipyards was restricted except for Sith-Imperial officers above a certain rank and certified Sith Knights and Lords.
  • Description: Massive and spectacular to behold, the shipyards of Mon Cala are one of the most important starship production facilities in the entire galaxy. Capable of producing multiple destroyer-class ships simultaneously, the orbital ring is a boon to any faction who managed to get their hands on it. Now in the iron-clad hands of the Sith Empire, the shipyard had been repurposed to churn out Sith-Imperial designed warships to swell the already massive armada that polices its vast territories.

The Empire has placed great significance on the shipyards ever since they were acquired during the Battle of Mon Cala, and have gone to great lengths to ensure that they are well-protected at any given time.
OPERATIONS INFORMATION
  • Production: Dreadnoughts, Battlecruisers, Star Destroyers
  • Specialty: Star Destroyers are the Mon Cala Shipyard's primary production, the shipyards having been outfitted to produce multiple warships of that categorization simultaneously.
  • Output: The Imperialized shipyards were overhauled for mass-production of Star Destroyers, typically working on multiple warships at the same time while larger ships like battlecruisers are assembled at a slower rate. Dreadnoughts are few and far between.
  • Market: Save for parceled out slices of the shipyard, the entirety of the Mon Cala orbital ring has been nationalized by the Sith Empire and is used exclusively for military production.
SECURITY

[*]Defensive Orbital Stations: 19,917m

[*]Defensive Shipyard Emplacements:
  • Heavy Turbolaser Batteries
  • Heavy Ion Cannon Batteries
  • Missile Launcher Banks
  • Point-defense Cannons
  • Anti-missile Octets
  • Flak Cannons
  • Quad Laser Cannons

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • The Orbital Ring: Encompassing the entire planet is a massive dockyard not dissimilar from the rings around Kuat and Ringo Vinda. It possesses all of the amenities to manufacture spacefaring warships from the size of Star Destroyers to Dreadnoughts, with the former being its primary production. Resources from the planet below and out of the system are brought in via massive hangar bays dotting the outside and inside edge of the station, and are then unloaded and shipped off to other sections of the station where needed.
  • Orbital Command: The command center for the entire orbital ring is a reinforced fortress jutting out from somewhere along the north-facing surface of the station. From here the Imperial authorities overseeing production can monitor the entire station from safeguarded security complexes, and the station is outfitted with an audience chamber to house the Emperor in the event of a visit from his highness.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The shipyards of Mon Cala have been used to supply the ancient Republics with their greatest warships for centuries after the historic Clone Wars brought the Mon Calamari's ships to the forefront of the galactic war. Thus, the Mon Calamari had used their immense talent in ship construction to build unique and organic-themed ships for the enemies of Imperialism in almost every era following the Galactic Civil War, with their production lines only being silenced during the Four-Hundred Year Darkness.

As the galaxy emerged from the darkness of the Gulag Plague, the shipyards were left in complete disarray until the fledgling Sith Empire under the command of Emperor Moridin dispatched Ashin Varanin and other Sith to the world to bring it under the Imperial fold. After it had been pacified, the Empire started to rebuild its shipyards to produce its own warships as the Empire began to expand to the star systems around it.

But as the war with the Galactic Republic began to turn against the Sith Empire, the oppressed natives of Mon Cala turned against their oppressors and beseeched the aid of the Republic to liberate them. This culminated in the Battle of Mon Cala between the Republic and the Sith Empire, leading to the latter's defeat and the imprisonment of Emperor Zambrano.

The Mon Cala shipyards were now under the control of the Galactic Republic, which also utilized them to produce more starships to attack the Sith Empire and any other aggressive entities that popped up after its collapse. They enjoyed many years of peace and prosperity until the Netherworld Crisis cut off Republic influence from the planet, leaving them open to the influence of others such as renegade Sith and pirates.

This era of uncertainty came to an end with the Silver Jedi arrived in the system, pledging to fight for the Mon Calamari's rights and sovereignty in exchange for their loyalty in the cause to destroy the Dark.

But this time too would pass.

The power of the Dark Side could not be easily cast aside, and years later a new Sith Empire would rise to challenge the Jedi's authority in the Outer Rim. After many battles between the Jedi, the Sith, and the Imperials of the Western Slice, the Mon Calamari again found themselves on their own in the face of dire external threats.

Those of the Silver Jedi who did not abandon the Outer Rim like the rest of their comrades banded together to form the League of Voss, with the Mon Cala Shipyards supplying the resistance group with starships aplenty. However, not even that was enough to deter the extremely expansionist Sith Empire as it gobbled up more and more systems in the Tingel Arm.

When Voss fell, the remaining League members retreated to Mon Cala and reorganized themselves under the leadership of the revolutionary Nomdi Lumohld, who appointed herself as the President of a Mon Cala Federation with the blessing of King Usash of the Mon Calamari. They vowed to rebuild their strength, and prepare themselves for the inevitable battle against the Sith Empire.

But not even this could stop the Emperor's hordes, and the Sith Empire washed over Mon Cala for the second time in the past hundred years. With its oceans poisoned and the King and President destroyed by his agents, the Emperor commanded that the shipyards of Mon Cala would be placed under direct Imperial occupation. Never again would they be used against the Empire's rule of law and order, now they would help build the machines of war to subjugate new star systems.

Another solid write up here, enjoyable to read your work as always.

I just have one concern, and that is regarding your security rating. A 20 km fleet with an additional 20km in orbital defenses before we even get to the shipyard emplacements themselves seems like it should be at Maximum. Keep in mind shipyards aren't usually even armed, and this is quite the arsenal.

I changed the rating to extreme, and my rationale for such a high number of defenses is because the Emperor has put great emphasis on the shipyard's importance as the new center of star destroyer and battlecruiser production within that slice of the Empire's frontier.

Plus with it being on the edge of the Empire's territory it is highly susceptible to raiding, especially from the more well-armed organizations arrayed against the Empire.

Think of it as being on par with the Kuat Drive Yards in terms of importance.

Because of Dac's unique canonical nature I have no problem with the current manifest as is, I'm only interested in tweaking the security rating so its an accurate representation. I appreciate you being willing to up the rating, but unfortunately Extreme is not one of the ratings currently available. Your choices are None, Low, Medium, High, and Maximum. After conferring with another judge, I feel pretty confident that this fits into the Maximum category for its template.
