The Technology Factory Has Been Temporarily Shutdown

sigh

Honestly the factory and codex makes this site stand out, and it's going away for who knows how long.. Guess I better get the rest of my subs in before everything's gone

I mean, as long as I dev it, it can go into the modification area, right?
The components I mentioned don't really need subbing since they're modular, the majority at least.

Mandal Hypernautics makes engines and thrusters you can swap in which have some pretty neat effects.
Koensayr has a fast-acting navigational computer that is probably eons better than your 800 year old one.
Silk Holdings just makes freighter mods, mostly countermeasures and decoys, plus some freight equipment.
Ri'ess Regal Drives makes a decoy device as well, and a couple of modular weapons that are probably too small for your needs, but nonetheless.

[member="Tefka"], I was worried this was about my lightsaber sub, mainly because you posted this right after I saw your approval post and I sort of jumped the gun on worrying that this was because of that. (I was only going for the crystal because I wanted it for its dark side theme, I really had no idea about the other stuff.)

I'll handle the approval of the last remaining submissions, and if I'm compromised in my judgement on one or two of them, I'll call in an Admin/RPJ to help me.
What I meant is, does my WIP fall under this category? I can expedite the dev thread if necessary.... Or, you know, just run without a submission and hope and pray people realize it's finished and don't report. ._.

On an unrelated note, I feel like this is all just one big social experiment to see how we fare without factory use for a while.

Continue your dev thread and I'll approve it.

I, for one, will be making a killing selling 'Factory' patches. They work be releasing periodic amounts of new tech into your system to help stave off the Jones'. With three weeks of treatment, you too can be Factory free.*

Just a note to those that can't cope - I have eight characters. Today was the first day since last year that I put in a tech submission. (And it was only out of want) You don't need the factory to continue role-playing.

To be honest, before I found Chaos I was a TGC refugee looking for a home. I went to every site I could find and browsed them to get a feel for activity and fairness. When I stumbled upon Chaos, I was overwhelmed by the size and complexity of it all. But when I saw the factory and read some of the submissions and rules... I knew that this was the place for me.

The Factory is what makes Chaos what it is. It is the heart and soul of what forces fair and unbiased guidelines on the writers. Roleplay judges, admins, Tefka (when he's not being a troll), and the factory/codex judges are able to enforce this fairness by pointing at the factory and telling a writer to go do their homework when they push too far and create a bad writing environment for others.

It also serves as a driving force for creativity. I currently have two projects in mind that blow all of my other submissions out of the water. I'm currently working on a 100 post thread and a 500 post thread. Both of these have forced me to weave a large-scale 'campaign' of a story together that can culminate in an outstanding 8-12 page long submission to the factory that is both detailed and story driven. Without the factory, I would never had come up with the idea for these great stories and would not be driven so hard to complete them.

Is the Factory a headache for a lot of people? Yes. Without question, it's a pain in the butt.

But it's worth it.

[member="Jax Malric"] ever meandered what's already there for use in the factory? the tech/starship area may be closed for new submissions, but there is NO REASON in the UNIVERSE you can't build an army/armada off of literally HUNDREDS of submissions already present for use in the factory.

The work is just in the searching for them.

I think this is a good thing. The factory has been churning out items since its conception non-stop, its about time it gets a little break for awhile. It's not like this spells the end of RP, since the factory is intended to be an option lore building element of that activity, not the necessary nutrient to form it.

Have fun Factory-adicts!

All these people acting like the Factory forums are closed forever.

It's just like a server coming down for a bit before a major update. Hopefully, one for the better and far more accessible from what I've seen.

None. However - Custom technology does not a faction make. Writers make factions, writers who agree on the same ideal and theme. To boot, you're starting the third incarnation of the Imperial Remnant; and not to sound crass, but there is a whole legion of articles of canon tech that are available to use in the interm. There have been several Empires in the past, and they still have decent tech, as well as board approved tech in the hundreds that can be used free of charge. Focus on the writers, focus on the story, focus on getting a good solid community, because regardless of factory submissions, I've seen this and other ideas fail when the proper perspective was not utilized.

I should also add that I hope this 'temporariness' doesn't last long though. The Factory is what makes Chaos so intrinsically unique and over all awesome (tied with a remarkable staff).

So just consider that also.

I can live without it. I spent a month living without it until finally, an admin came along and decided to ask me if I was ready to come back to it. I'm just worried about my one WIP, and it looks like I don't have to worry anymore.

Guys, see this as a great opportunity to improvise. Make due with what you have. Trade or buy amongst each other for what you don't. Stimulate the economy, help a player's company grow; the possibilities from this are almost endless.

I think there's just a mild issue where those of us that are new think the only way to get any tech without purchase is to sub for it. I had no idea how to even get a saber, for example, and when I saw someone's personal saber sub I decided to post my own and hope I'd get one. I didn't even know how I'd go about getting a saber crystal until I was asked to join a thread by @Saki. It isn't really an issue of "factory addicts", it's just that the majority of us don't really understand the actual rules we follow, and just assume that we need to submit every single character article in some way for approval.

Also, to elaborate on my previous mention of purchasing, as if that was something to avoid, a ton of people I know that thread on here don't even know how to go about getting credits, or even understand the economy of Chaos. I, for example, had to ask a bunch of people as to how we went about obtaining wealth.
