The Technology Factory Has Been Temporarily Shutdown

People, really, calm down. It is temporary and know that the Factory is optional. You can use the stuff you want to unless it gets reported or someone whines about it. And when the Factory is opened again, submit your stuff.

Or RP with characters who don't need the Factory. Maria is currently in the situation where most of the stuff I could do with her is the Factory. But I just use other characters during the time period. Or do stuff which doesn't need the Factory.

I'm a little confused as to the purpose here, though. If it were closed for updates to the system, I would understand, but it seems to me that the idea is to have a "cool-down" period. I really don't see what that will achieve. Tef called the factory "an unhealthy addition." You don't cure a smoking addiction by not smoking for a couple of weeks and then going right at it again. If the intention is to reform the systems, then this is a good call; if not, there isn't any point to doing this.

Using this logic, the Tech and Starships should never be opened again. >.>

If the objective is to stop people from creating tech and starships, then yes, they should be closed forever. Alternatively, if the objective is to limit people's use, then put regulations in place limiting the number of subs a person/faction can make in x amount of time. At any rate, closing the factory temporarily serves no purpose other than to introduce new systems; it's just inconvenient.

I, for one, don't see why anything has to be done at all, since nobody seems to have complained about the present status quo and plenty of people seem none too happy now the factory has been closed down. If the judges cannot handle the number of subs, say so, and either temporarily/permanently limit people's subs or recruit more judges.

There's a pretty decent chance that I've submitted more things to factory than anyone, ever.

And I'm completely fine with it shutting down.

RP'ing doesn't depend on having codified personalized stuff. And frankly, if you're starting off a new faction and feel you Need Your Things, go shopping. Go to the Marketplace. Go browse through Santhe, CEC, Silk, RRDI, Subach, ArmTech, Mandal Hypernautics -- you will find more than enough stuff to outfit a faction.

If and when I come back to running Factory, I wouldn't be averse to keeping this shutdown going for tech and ships, for a little while, and detoxing people into using the Marketplace and their own God-given ability to Google. I firmly believe that 50% of tech submissions could be avoided if people spent ten minutes in the Marketplace and Wookieepedia.

*lips quivers*

But but but now I can't have my Auntie Ashin Doll with Kung Fu grip and sniper rifle............. noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Actually well I don't mind this, there is a great deal of tech that have been made and people don't use. So many ships and gadgets between the board and legends canon that you can have something for any situation. I am going to enjoy the break and while missing out on [member="Ashin Varanin"] as Rave making more Akure fall line products will be missed... It wasn't a requirement.

just keep the codex going, codex is awesome and should be around forever and ever.

Personally, the only thing why I need the Factory is having my company and making things for it. I make near-useless stuff, but that's because a company has to produce something.

The other reason is that I want to make rewards/artefacts. I'd use canon or existing stuff, but... First of all, most items which have a considerable amount of info of them are already taken, and second, if I make a new thing, I know more of it than I'd know of any other thing.

Other than that, I don't see a reason why I would need the Factory.

On the topic of factory closure being horrid, ever since the Codex/Factory split, I haven't needed the Factory at all really. Now I may need it for a new lightsaber or something in the future, yes, but I don't NEED it for Charlotte

Ugh... the reason is technically drama causing in itself, Tef, just saying
People love to argue and complain. That's a God-given fact of Nature. Nothing's ever going to change that aspect.

I wholeheartedly agree with what Ashin said. I also know that the only reason people don't do it is because they want something of their own, that 'something' of their dreams.

IT'S ALL FICTIONAL.

It's all nothing but a picture or two with a paragraph of words below it. I agree. Don't your time and others' - go buy that thing you want instead of slapping a fresh coat of gold paint on the same old turd. It takes up staff's time and hurts the companies, who made them for people like YOU (not you, Charlotte, it's a generalization :3).

....There are no words. No words to describe this.

*casually removes a chainsaw* :l

Seriously though, what is this going to fix? It's just going to go back to normal when it re-opens..

*Mini Death Star only fires a flag that says BANG!* Hahahahahaha

Seriously though, I kinda agree here too

If they do that, then all Factory submissions ever need to be scrapped and the very idea of having Factory-submitted pseudo-legitimate equipment, ships, and ordinance needs to be wiped. Otherwise you end up with the old people saying "I HAVE THIS THING THAT WAS APPROVED" and the new people saying "Wait, what?"

You're probably the first person I've seen actually list Subach in anything without it being immediately followed by a condescending remark. On the same note as that post, if you need any mentally stimulating games, Sudoka's items on the open market are lovely for passing time.
