There Are Many Paths to Tread

Ultimatum started with [member="Vigil"]'s question, knowing that the second was by far an important matter to discuss. Nonetheless, he began by explaining where the material was discovered, "The material was located on an asteroid that moved through the Mustafar system about three weeks ago. The asteroid was mostly composed of iron with trace rare elements. Initially it was those rare elements that I sent a team to collect, but readings from scanners led the excavation team to a small vein of this material. At the time it was about three hundred kilograms in weight, what remained after the refining and purifying process is now ten kilograms. In order to ensure that the material does not expire from any unknown half-life, the collection has been placed in a stasis container for the present. I have put a molecular furnace to the task of manufacturing the material for the moment, however we will be utilizing a single kilogram of the original for testing purposes. Once a successful synthesis is accomplished we will be able to use that." Ultimatum felt he had gone slightly off subject but he forged on.

"As for your second question, there is the possibility of radiation damage, but from what our security has found thus far is that the material solely emits low alpha waves. It should be safe to work with for the moment. You will all be notified immediately should some other hazard reveal itself."

The droid turned to [member="Thraxis"], noticing that the organic seemed rather interested in a small rock that he was holding in his hands. The droid realized that perhaps the speech had become somewhat boring for those that had a more wild side to them. "There is much work beside the studying of the material. If you would like, I need assistance in the design of a suit that will hopefully take advantage of this new power source. Perhaps you would be willing to test it once it is done?"

[member="Darth Pikiran"]

The word Radiation piqued his interest. It was a word he understood all too well, something he had tested and used in his Laborious activities. It was seldom used, but a great torture technique if one merely knew how to use it correctly. The fact, however, that Radiation damage was a threat was worrying. That was generally a threat he couldn't withstand. Sure he could handle torture, that was temporary, most things in life with the right viewpoint were temporary but Radiation damage was permanent. Unless there was a way to get rid of it. But he hadn't looked all that far into the idea of getting rid of it.

Thraxis tossed aside the rock, his hands clasping together as his fingers intertwined, a brow raised. He got to help design it. He paused for a second, his fingers breaking their intertwined state as he put a hand on the side of his jaw, cocking his head to the side as he took in a deep breath to draw out whatever tension he could muster. "Well... I don't think I have ever made anything before... Aw to hell with it, why not get to work learning with something of this magnitude." A grin drew along his face his free hand tapping along the table in a rhythmic fashion as he got pumped to help make something like this.

Vigil hummed, this certainly did make the element they were testing purified, if the process was as thorough as [member="Ultimatum"] said. And even so, they knew the primary contaminant most likely to be present, and could easily compare any test results with the material against iron, a very well known substance, to conclude the probability of error. Quite honestly it was a scientist's dream, to test something new and unseen before that point. The droid chuckled, or mimicked the sound, as he fired up his holoprojectors to impersonate your average, stock human scientist, complete with lab coat. If for no other reason than to look the part.

"Well, my friend, my mind is devoted to our task then. I have full confidence we can create a new monumental moment in history together. Mr. [member="Thraxis"] I believe will make an excellent test pilot for your suit, while the rest of us continue to work on the material in question. I presume the others quite tired from the journey, or hungry for that matter. Perhaps while they attend to such matters, you would be willing to allow me to synch up with the facility? I'm quite eager to begin determining the atomic structure of this element, or study whatever you've already learned." It wasn't for lack of care that he failed to address Thraxis or Daemon directly. No... he simply had two tasks to preform before he felt comfortable attempting to replicate the substance. One was, naturally, the required step to do so. The other? Well, he would feel more comfortable being able to shut down his body to conserve energy when needed.

(Sorry guys. Completely forgot this thread. And havent gotten tags for it in a while.)

Damien listened silently to the words of the other three men around him. The ore had been found within an asteroid as it blew nearby. It was not damaging, not to living flesh hopefully. Yet it held incredibly massive potential. Twas a beautiful bit of information. No doubt. With a nod Damien spoke, "This is quite the rare possibility. A random act shows such an incredibly powerful material." He moved toward a bay window, looking out at the lava, "What would you have of me specifically?"

Ultimatum could not see the expression of [member="Thraxis"] for the helmet that obscured his features, however the tone gave Ultimatum some indication that the organic was looking forward to the work. He decided to tell the insane person a small portion of what he would need to plan for, "The suit will need to be built as aerodynamic as possible and capable of handling intense temperatures."

Turning towards [member="Darth Pikiran"] he answered, "I would leave it up to you, your expertise could be used in either field, or perhaps you could aid in preparations for the inevitable testing of the suits. If you would be willing for my advice I might suggest working with the suit design." From what Ultimatum understood, the Sith had experience in armor construction and perhaps would be able to lend a hand in the design of a unique suit.

Finally the artificial intelligence addressed his kindred, "Of course, all computer systems within the compound are open to everyone here. Any of the terminals throughout the building will contain everything currently known about the material. If anyone is weary or hungry, there are accommodations on the second floor with a stock of fresh food that I hear is quite tasty. Anything else before we begin?"

Thraxis paused at what it needed to be. He looked at his own armour, it seemed aerodynamic enough, no large unnecessary plates though its thickness could prove a bit of a problem, but with a few tweaks, a different underbelly that could contain the heat in a way that it didn't go melting the skin things shouldn't prove too problematic.

He pulled out a Commlink, sketching something of his own armours ilk, changing the colouration to White to the minmize amount of heat kept in, he cut off a few bits of excess plating, the shoulder pads being thinned down and the tiniest of excess from the helmet. Overall, his suit was perfectly capable of adaption with just the slightest of tweaks. Though then again, he knew diddly squat about making armour and for all he knew he just made something about as aerodynamic as a Rancor actively opposing the wind.

Over the next few days, work was conducted on multiple fronts. [member="Thraxis"] worked alongside a small collection of armor designers, who tried their hardest to keep from doing anything rash to the very extraordinary person. The main issue had been what it has always been with organics and aerodynamics and that was the fact that most were designed in an incredibly inefficient way. While the initial designs were fine as far as ensuring that the material was smooth and allowing airflow with minimal resistance, the problem returned because most organics had the majority of their flat surface forward facing, thus creating a massive drag area. Eventually it was decided that small plating along the front of the armor to help break the drag issue.

Whether good or bad, Thraxis would find that the greeter droid stuck near him most of the time. The artificial would continue to act as it first had, perhaps learning better how to respond, yet always somewhat uncertain.

The material study had gone quite well. There was a field of some sort that emanated from the material, akin but not a magnetic field. A unit had been designed and created that could harness the energy and in so doing made the unit increase in speed. The creation of synthetic rods of the same material allowed them to conduct more tests and eventually collaborate with the armorers to integrate it into the suit designs. When at last all was said and done, four suits had been outfitted and four droid bodies procured that could utilize the power source.

An empty field outside the city, unknown to most it was right near the Progenitor Facility, had been fitted with a long run track and various equipment. The testing was to begin in a few hours and everyone had been brought there in preparation.

[member="Vigil"] [member="Darth Pikiran"]

The field was filled with a veritable army of scientists and personnel manning the collection of equipment. Everything from sensors to power stations to emergency equipment, the field was almost an entire town unto itself. The volunteers for the test had taken their place, one organic and one artificial, with Ultimatum transferred into one of the remaining forms. The three were preparing for the run, each in their own way. At the moment the suits and bodies did not yet have the power rods in them, and were thus little more than tight forming armor with little practical use. Ultimatum had offered the ability to test the inventions as well if they so desired.
