It was sudden. Varynx felt the shoto blade ignite while attached to his belt. While the primary blade of it didn't injure him, one of the side blades pierced through his leg. It caused him to fall to a knee at the sudden pain, though he strangely enough didn't let out a croak of pain beyond a slight grunt upon the initial attack.

As he began to stand back up, he removed the blade and deactivated it, but kept it held to his side. He looked over to the Padawan and noted his angered expression. He then felt the air become harder to breathe in until eventually vibrant azure flames roared to life, encircling the Sith in a tightening ring. The flames caught onto his cloak and began to ignite it. Varynx still maintained an expression of indifference but his eyes gave away the anger he know held.

Even as his cloak caught fire, he kept his focus on the Jedi, even if he wasn't able to see him while in the swirling flames. He threw the shoto blade to the side, where it hit the wall and clattered to the ground. He unwrapped himself from his cloak and allowed it to burn on the ground, leaving himself in his combat robes. He reached through the flames, uncaring that it will burn his arm, and unleashed a streak of purple lightning from his fingertips. He continued to send lightning towards the Padawan even as he stepped through the flames, unflinching from the flames on his robes.

"I'll admit that you caught me by surprise there, I'll have to remember that one."

As the crackling streak of purple lightning shot through the air, Braze was caught off guard. His focus had been drawn to his shoto as it clattered against the cave wall, but before he could react, the bolt struck him squarely in the chest. The force of the impact sent him flying back, his small body slamming into the rough, jagged surface of the cave wall. He staggered upon hitting the ground, the pain radiating through his body as the residual electricity crackled in the air around him.

The shock left him momentarily disoriented, his muscles twitching from the powerful surge. His grounding boots helped absorb some of the energy, but not enough to prevent the burning sensation that spread across his chest. Gritting his teeth, Braze pushed himself off the wall, the rough stone scraping against his back as he fought to regain his footing, and control over his body.

As he struggled to focus, the azure flames encircling the Sith began to flicker and weaken. The sudden jolt of lightning had shattered his concentration, causing the once-vibrant flames to sputter and fade. The control Braze had exerted over the air faltered, and with it, the swirling heat dissipated into the cave's damp atmosphere. He clenched his fists in frustration, feeling the sharp bite of the cave air return as his hold slipped further.

His breath came in sharp gasps as he tried to focus, his eyes narrowing as the Sith stepped forward, seemingly unphased by the flames licking at his robes. The cave around them flickered with the eerie glow of the dying blue firelight shifting from the blue hue to a warm heated orange, casting long shadows on the walls. Despite the sting of the lightning, Braze knew he couldn't afford to falter.

"Didn't think you'd be one to fall for theatrics," he muttered, forcing his body to steady itself as he pressed against the wall with one hand the other clutching at his chest. The throbbing pain pulsed through him, but his stance remained firm, his eyes locking onto his opponent as he flourished his light foil drawing it's blade in front of him in a guarded stance, his arms trembling from the after shock on his system.

Varynx continued forward, a limp evident from his right leg, but he seemed to pay it little mind as he approached the Padawan. Although the large whirlpool of flame was gone, wisps of flame continued to latch onto his clothes. The hand he used to send the blast of lightning, his right, showed signs of burns, but the Sith saw it as a miniscule issue.

"Even a Sith has to enjoy himself every now and again."

His tone turned serious.

"You wounded me. I give you credit for that. But, now you've simply tried my patience."

He redrew is lightsaber in his left hand, dragging it along the ground. His right hand continued to spark with his lightning. His expression finally made evident his anger.

"Now, seeing as you were talking high and mighty, I'm sure you don't need a breather."

Braze panted as he watched the figure draw closer. With a quick decision, he activated the Lightveil Circlet around his neck, and a sudden, blinding flash erupted from the jewel at its center, flooding the cave with light. Seizing the opportunity, Braze dove to his left, retrieving Sentry and holstering it in one swift motion. He darted down a cavernous split, tossing a pair of E.G.G.S. towards his pursuers. As he fled, Braze focused on wind manipulation, forcing the swirling cloud of gas back toward his opponent to slow their pursuit.

"Together..." Vera mumbled her voice still unsteady as her mind tried to fight against this darkness she felt. A darkness that was getting closer, forcing the young Padawan to open her eyes. It was all-consuming to the young Noble, whose mind was trying so hard to resist. It wasn't until Mahsa reached out with the calming effect of her medallion, that Vera snapped into focus and turned her multi-colored gaze to the creature ahead.

It was a sickening thing to behold — its arms were deadly appendages, its body was distorted and she could feel its pain and conflicted emotions.

It was also fast and closed the distance between it and the Jedi Padawans much quicker than Vera would have liked. Still, the young Noble noticed something else.

It could not see.

<It can't see us,> she said telepathically, as she moved away from Mahsa, <I'll distract it. You kill it.> Vera didn't give Mahsa any chance to protest and ignited the green blade of her lightsaber. The familiar snap-hiss echoed through the mine shaft, which it undoubtedly heard and made it jump into action.

"Where.. Are you..?"

"Right here, ugly!"
Vera yelled out loud, as she raised a hand and channeled the Force. A strange runic circle appeared in front of her, glowing bright purple — a barrier that protected not only against energy but against physical attacks as well. With the creature unable to see, she hoped it would run straight into what would feel like a concrete wall.

It had been hard to keep a clear head as the darkness continued to encroach upon them, a sickening presence that weighed down against their minds and attempted to disrupt their thoughts. And it wasn’t just against her.

Mahsa could feel the distress of the brunette at her side and, while the inky expanse of this tunnel made it hard to see, it had bled into her hair in dark amber shades that threatened to blend themselves with the darkness. It wasn’t until her hand wrapped firmly around the pommel of her dagger that their color receded, though some lingering hues of citrine remained, and not a single moment was spared as she quickly sought to share this relief with Vera too.

A knot formed in the back of her throat as she caught the full sight of the figure, caused by a cry that her voice yearned to release but was denied when that thing erased the distance between them in the blink of an eye. She was certain that without the dagger Drifter Drifter had gifted her two years ago she would’ve screamed and doomed them both… but even it couldn’t keep the familiar sting out of her eyes as the dissonant emotions and hurt of this creature barged into her mind as it stood so close.

<It can’t see us.> Vera’s voice rang clearly as the Noble daughter communicated via telepathy and, while she lacked such a skill, the Kazelrrian remained still as a statue as she allowed her own wave of understanding and determination to trickle back through the established connection.

In truth she absolutely hated the idea and that her friend had to take such a risk… but it was the best—and perhaps only—chance they currently had, and one they had to take before it was too late. It’d be all over if it turned out that thing could sniff out their location or its ears finally caught the uneven beating within her chest, and Mahsa currently wielded the only weapon that could catch this unfortunate creature by surprise.

I’m sorry… it’ll be over soon. Despite its grotesque appearance she couldn’t help but feel pity for this unnatural being, the grip on her dagger tightening as the padawan steeled her resolve. Just like in the Cage… just like Ayhan Ayhan taught us.

The moment she felt it turn their attention to Vera’s hissing lightsaber and loud taunts Mahsa was quick to silently side-step from its path, golden eyes trained on the creature and their every movement as her own muscles tensed in wait. If it tried to rush at Vera she was ready to launch herself towards it, determined to sink the phrik blade into the vulnerable area where the spine connected to the head for what Mahsa hoped would be a quick and mostly painless death.

She never noticed the Firrerreo lurking in the darkness.

"You're trespassing." She started, her voice amplified by the use of the Force. "Go home, Jedi; you don't belong here; no one wants you here."

Footsteps approached from the opposite direction. Privately, Cora disliked the mines. It might've made sense for a military target, but fighting underground in narrow corridors presented a specific kind of danger.

Her nose wrinkled as she thought of how nerve gas had crept through the tunnels beneath Ryloth's surface, courtesy of the Mandalorian Enclave.

Cora's attention lifted from the droids and settled on the young woman standing at the opposite end of the passage. Young, blonde, with the sort of poise that came from a noble upbringing. No sinister mask or layers of billowing black robes, but her aura was heavy with strength.

No one wants me here?

She lofted a brow. Her lips twitched, stifling a smile. It wasn't a mocking gesture, but the way this woman spoke to her was strangely reasonable. It beat being greeted with a lightsaber to the face. The Jedi pursed her lips and dipped her head to the side in acknowledgement.

"That's understandable."

Cora's attention fell to the lightsaber hilt in her hand. Her lips stilled into a frown and she squinted as if she were peering at something distant.

"You're not a Sith, are you?"

She spoke with a genuine note of surprise. Many of the Sith she'd come across - in battle or otherwise - had been cloaked in a heavy veil of Darkness. On the spectrum of the Force, this woman lived somewhere between the two.

Varynx shut his eyes quickly upon the flash coming from the necklace, at the same time thrust out his right hand and released another streak of lightning which struck the wall. Upon the flash dying down, he scanned his area, noting how he missed via the scorch mark left on the wall. He saw the Padawan running down a split in the cavern and began to follow, only to be halted by smoke pellets thrown by the Padawan. Believeing it to be regular smoke, or a kind of poison, he made no effort to protect his eyes and carried on through, holding his breath. A few moments later, he felt a sting in his eyes forcing him to shut them. Still believing it to be poison, he kept his breath until he used the force to clear it out his vicinity.

He attempted to open his eyes, but could feel their sting. He could still feel the Padawan fleeing, however, and continued forward.

"I don't need my eyes to find you, Padawan."

As he produced his Officer's saber, the Sith did put the daggers away and drew her own sword. The Prince's brows rose as an entertained glint in his eyes could be seen. It faded quickly however, for as he moved forward, a pained sting coursed through his left arm, causing him to adjust it to put a bit less strain on it.

When she pushed forth he allowed his own blade to meet hers from the inside - first to smash it away and then to quickly pivot to an attack of his own. But the counter attack would never be launched - for her second attack shot a painful amount of electricity through him as it threw him back a few meters until he hit a wood construct behind him.

A pained groan left him as he leaned against the wall, pain clearly still coursing through his body. A perceptive eye, however, would noticed how the pained movements were disguising his free - but injured - hand arm reach for hist blaster pistol. Once at hand, he fired a flurry of bolt in her direction. Whilst doing so, he put some effort into getting back up from his leaned back position. This time, he did not push towards her. Instead, he used slow, careful and measured steps to keep some distance whilst not straying too far from a nearby mine cart.

Self sacrifice? She was going to kill herself to help the other? Firrerreo reached up through the white mask of his familiar, plucking free a fruit to take a bite of. Chewed, idly, as he watched for the moment. At least until Mahsa pulled a blade to be ready. The Lost rushed forward towards the sound, desperate in it's attempts to reach out and find the voice. Claws ripped against the shield, confused at first.

Angrier the next. It screeched, slamming it's claws again and again to try and break through.

"Help- me! Help me! HELP ME!"

Firrerreo frowned as he took another bite, then dropped from his perch to land beside Mahsa. The white masked owl looked directly at her as the shorter Acolyte simply watched his creation try and fail. It couldn't get through the barrier, and in it's desperation it couldn't process how to get around. How to think. In that regard, this was a failure.

"So, how do you think you can kill it? With that knife?" He took another bite, just watching for the moment. Could it be killed with blade like that? Probably, if they found the core to strike. The rest of it's body was just.. Weapon, at this point. Useless flesh. He squinted, though, as he looked at it's form from behind. It's body was translucent, almost, in the light of the Runes. More importantly, it showed the black sphere that was it's core.

That was a design flaw already. What a shame.

<K-kill it, Mahsa,> Vera said, her voice somewhat calm, but she was doing her best to hide just how unnerving it was to see this creature desperately clawing away at her barrier. She knew that if she dropped her shield, this beast would tear her apart, yet it was screaming for help. Over and over again. It was frightening, more than anything she had felt before, and all she wanted was for it to stop.

It had to stop.

"Make it stop!" Vera screamed, but when things already seemed to be getting worse, she noticed the Sith Acolyte dropping down from his perch to stand next to Mahsa. He didn't immediately attack or try to hurt her, but Vera feared that he would, or that he'd draw the attention of his beast to her best friend.

She couldn't wait any longer.

While one hand maintained the barrier that kept the Sithspawn from reaching her, Vera disengaged the blade of her lightsaber with the other and tossed the hilt over her barrier. In mid-air, the hilt was telekinetically stopped and suddenly flew toward the creature's back. The green blade ignited again, as Vera tried her best to stab it from behind.

She needed to get through it, so she could help her friend.

"I'm surprised you can still walk!" The cheeky little brat called back, his voice echoing through the cavern.

Braze turned, scanning the ceiling of the mines. Spotting a cluster of stalactites, he stretched out a hand, calling upon Sokan. With a heavy, telekinetic pull, he heaved hard. The ceiling rumbled violently, the cavern shaking as the rocky spires broke loose and crashed down in an attempt to stab and crush his pursuer.

Panting heavily, Braze felt the toll. His connection to the Force was rusty, and the effort was draining, though it came with a cathartic release of pent-up frustration. He knew he was pushing himself too far—this was an unhealthy way to reconnect.

Stumbling slightly, he spun around, drawing both his blades. Serenity hummed to life in his left hand, held in a reverse grip, while his fencing light foil ignited in his right. Ready to commit to Jar'kai, he braced himself, stepping forward in anticipation of his opponent somehow surviving the cave-in. Braze's mind raced with possibilities, his instincts quick and sharp. Playing fair was not his style, and he had no intention of starting now.

Help— me! Help me! HELP ME!”

The wavering in its voice soon gave way to rough and angry tones, each syllable accentuated by the limbs now assaulting Vera’s shield with reckless abandon. <K-Kill it, Mahsa.> Her friend was putting on a brave face, but it couldn’t hide the strain in their communication or the fear that wrapped around the brunette as the clawed ends raked against her shield.

It’s for the best, it’s the only way we can help—
"—!?!"

Its wails had been magnified thanks to the enclosed nature of the tunnels, reverberating and echoing as they drowned out everything else. She never heard him coming, not until the figure dropped onto the ground and startled the Kazelrrian as he spoke. "So, how do you think you can kill it?"

Her stance had shifted, blade now held between her and the newcomer as Mahsa guarded herself. It was in their best interest for survival to assume anything unfamiliar within these mines would try to kill them, but the calm—almost conversational even— words of the Firrerreo as he nonchalantly chewed on a fruit certainly confused the padawan.

"With that knife?"

Perhaps that’s why her head nodded once in answer before Mahsa caught herself and, though she’d hate to admit it, his words guided Mahsa to study the Sithspawn with renewed focus. It’d been hidden from their sight before, but now that she got a look at the creature’s back—illuminated by the light of Vera’s saber as it backstabbed its flesh—she could see a darkened section that shouldn’t have been present.

She was moving before the thought had finished forming, deciding that the newcomer didn’t present as much of a threat compared to the accursed being that threatened her friend. A burst of speed had the Kazelrrian land on the ceiling first, using her new vantage point to aim for the darkened core, as she channeled the Force to increase the momentum and the power behind her strike.

Her eyes were sharp and she caught the movements to a blaster pistol. Eira felt the Force guide her movements and she dodged the attacks, the speed and movements of her body were unnaturally fast and she was able to keep her core safe from a deadly shot. Her arms lightly singed from the heat of the bolts since she wasn't the fastest in her movements and without a Lightsaber, her ability to deflect the bolts was impossible.

Growling, Eira shot another bolt of Force Lightning at the soldier. She moved forward as she did, charging to the man and used her sword, she adopted a mix of Echani fighting styles that she learnt from Iuuna as well as Shii-Cho that she learned while at the academy. Her combat training was still only in it's infancy so her movements were not precise nor were they skilful as Eira envisioned herself to be.

However, she was building momentum and pooling the Force in her clenched right fist as she flicked the blade in her left hand to slash at Vince's already injured arm, aiming to cause more grievous wounds. Hoping the pain would overwhelm any other thoughts he had.

"HELP ME!"

It was the last time the monster screeched out words before pain overwhelmed it. The lightsaber seared through it's back, earning an inhuman cry. A cry at the level of actual harm to those who could hear it. Firrerreo himself flinched, but he was prepared for this. He made sure it could feel pain so it's cries, it's screams, would bring more harm.

Jedi hated hurting people who wanted help the most, after all.

But they were determined. He took another bite of his fruit as the color hair changing one leapt forward to plunge their knife into the core. At once the screeching, the hammering and desperate need, stopped. Like a puppet with it's strings cut it fell at once, in a heap of it's twisted limbs. Firrerreo let out a sigh as he dropped the core of the fruit he'd been eating and pulled out a journal.

Specifically, from the white mask of his familiar. He reached into it as if it was a pouch to tug out the datapad he'd need to write in. While he did, the white mask stayed glued to the pair, always watching.

"Weakspots revealed in the light. Make sure it can think more. Basic problem solving, perhaps? And sight. Sight would be helpful."

The Sith proved the challenge of facing a force user. Even without a lightsaber to deflect his bolts, she still managed to withstand his assault. The speed of her movement almost made her hard for the Prince to track but he maintained the pressure whilst carefully trying to position himself around the cart.

Finally, she struck back with a bolt of lightning. Unfortunately, she had timed it well enough for him to be just outside of the carts vicinity. Despite dashing for it, he was not quick enough to avoid the attack. Once more, he let out a pained growl whilst being propelled back. This time, he fell against a ladder leading up to a pathway above. Despite valiant attempts, the pain was too much to overcome - no shots would come her way as she closed the distance to him at a tremendous speed.

Her attacks, while often seeming simple and direct, managed to bring a surprised expression out of him when the Shii-Cho swipes turned into more advanced echani-influenced manoeuvres. He himself fought with the elegance of a fencer trained at court and the brutal practicality of a soldier. Whilst maintaining a one-armed grip on his saber, Vince offered a strong defence against her attacks with the occasional powerful counter attack or riposte..

What followed was a vicious attack against his already injured arm - the one holding the blaster pistol. He pivoted quickly with his own saber but did not manage to stop her blade in time. Instead, he once more felt a powerful thud against the wrist-bound armour with a blade quickly approaching to slash at his arm. This time, however, he had a better prepared response. Whilst he moved his sabre to push against her sword, his foot stomped down - aimed onto hers, to keep her in place - or at least to make it harder for her to slip away. Meanwhile, his attacked arm pointed the pistol right at her core from an extremely close range. What followed was three pulls of the trigger.

Varynx continued forward, following where he felt the Padawan's presence. He heard the ceiling beginning to crack and felt the cavern shake. In apprehension, he raised his right hand above his head and caught the falling stalactites. The sudden weight, coupled with his wounded leg, caused him to stumble momentarily. He regained his balance and then threw his blade around him, causing it to slice the stalactites in half, before it returned to his hand. He then threw the stone chunks forward, in the hopes that he would hit the Padawan.

"Then you severely underestimate me, Padawan. A Sith is useless if they can't continue their goal even while in pain."

The small team of Militants moved silently through the dimly lit tunnels; their footsteps muffled by the thick layer of dust that had settled over the ground. Distant explosions and blasterfire reverberated through the walls of the endless mining tunnels, a constant reminder of the chaos raging above. Thel's desire to confront the Sith Order directly burned within him, but he knew that a frontal assault on their strongholds in the mines would be suicide. For now, he and his men were grateful to be far from the epicenter of destruction, and they continued to push deeper into the darkness, searching for any sign of life.

After what seemed like hours of navigating the labyrinthine tunnels, the group finally emerged into a large excavated cavern. Signs of recent activity were scattered around—generators still humming, tools abandoned, and light fixtures casting long shadows. Yet, like the previous areas, this part of the mine appeared deserted. If there were any survivors, they were likely hiding, fearful of what—or who—might find them.

"Spread out, see if there are any survivors in this hellhole," Thel ordered, his voice low but commanding as he gestured for his men to fan out. Despite the eerie calm, they remained on high alert. The Sith were masters of deception, lurking in the shadows. For all they knew, they were being hunted even now. One of Thel's soldiers tapped his shoulder, breaking his focus.

"Boss, over there. Heat signatures are elevated," the soldier whispered, pointing toward a dark offshoot of the mine.

Without hesitation, Thel approached. The narrow passage was colder, the oppressive blackness making it hard to see. But in the gloom, Thel's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of a small face—just a child, cowering in the shadows. The sight was heartbreaking, yet not surprising. The Sith had no qualms about exploiting child labor in such a desolate place.

Slowly, Thel extended his hand toward the boy, his voice soft but insistent. "Come, child. Come. We're getting out of here." The boy hesitated; fear written all over his dirt-streaked face. "We're friends. Don't be afraid," Thel reassured him, his tone gentle despite the urgency of the situation.

Xeykard was already dropping when the telekinesis struck him; he tumbled into the darkness, position revealed only until he flattened it again. He slid, then crept silently once more. He'd been sure he had the drop on the Jedi, but now his opponent was on guard. Easy to spot, perhaps, but not easy to surprise.

"A bright light in the darkness! How poetic," he snarled, voice echoing from nowhere. He placed his saber down for a moment, then started to circle around, keeping every sense tuned for the Jedi's location. "No, you would be a shadow, would you not? One pretending to be of light, only to be truly of darkness. What do you know of either?"

A massive red blade flared, spinning through the air from across the cavern as though thrown at the Jedi -- only to be caught by Xeykard a couple of meters away, who instantly followed with a vicious downward stroke.

The exchange of blows for several moments caused slices and cuts form on Eira's arms and she could feel droplets of blood mix with sweat to drop onto the ground and stain her assassin gear. This was clearly her struggle, she was wanting to take down the group without a fight like this and Eira was now coming across a fighter who was giving her a run for her money. Eira noticed the stomping towards her foot and Eira was able to slide her foot back as to avoid the stomping.

Which was ideal when he drew out his gun and aimed at her stomach.

Eira placed her open palm against Vince's gut and blasted him back with a Force Push. It was gathering in her fist for several long moments and much stronger than she was normally able to use. With her foot not in the most firm position, the blast of the Force sent Eira backwards, knowing this was a risk, Eira did a backwards roll. Leaping back up to her feet, throwing a dagger with the speed of the Force to embed into the shoulder and pinning him against the wall.

If she could be so fortunate.

In case that didn't work, Dreidi needed to figure out a way to remove the pistol from his hand. Building the Force once again in her hand, thinking she might need to crush the bones in his hand to prevent him from being able to pull the trigger or even hold the pistol. However, she needed time to build enough strength to use the Force Crush.
