We Can Rebuild Him

“I’m sure you’ll do well.” The comment was said without much warmth, yet no vitriol. Farah was not as social or kind as Vanessa and she made no move to hide it.

The first surgery had been completed, but this would still be a long road for Darren. More surgical intervention would follow along with mental, physical and neural testing. If he was lucky and everything went off without a hitch, he’d be a functional cyborg trooper.

“Wean him off of the anesthetic and get him to the PACU.” A few quiet murmurings of ‘yes, doctor’ followed as the surgical staff began to work on Darren. Some of the monitors would remain attached to watch his vitals as he went through the initial recovery process.

She turned towards Vanessa. “I’m sure the Empire knows what they’re doing.” Her tone was one of agreement, though there were flecks of amusement in there. Far be it from her to know how to run a massive empire, but the Sith generally didn’t wipe out populations under their protection. Not that she had known about anyway, but secrets were rife within the Empire.

Walking out of the theater and into the scrub room, she removed her mask and wiped the sweat from her brow. As many times as she would do this, there was always a certain tension at points.

Darren Quinn

Good Soldiers Follow Orders
Darren nodded affirmingly at the Sith Lady's response, and not just because that was what one did when a Sith made an open statement. The Lieutenant was a warrior, not a politician. Even so, he could understand and appreciate what she was saying. The Sith Empire might be able to scare its enemies into submission through might alone, but if it was to remain a lasting fixture of galactic politics, it would have to inspire loyalty at home. It would have to spread the Sith-Imperial way of life to every facet of society, to turn today's dissidents into tomorrow's patriots. Still, that was above his pay grade. Let the Imperial Mission worry about patriotism, and he would worry about those who would threaten the Empire directly.

Besides, he already had enough on his mind. He had come in crippled and had emerged greater than ever. Much work remained, but he could already sense the potential, the raw strength now at his disposal. Precision, subtlety, and finesse, all of those would come. For now, all he could do was admire his new potential and do his very best to ensure that the faith the Sith had placed in him was repaid tenfold.

On Balmorra, he had survived through coincident alone. He had faced a Jedi and he had failed. Now... now he stood a chance. That was good enough for him. He was no Sith, no wielder of forces above and beyond the physical. A chance was all he had ever gotten, but he had become skilled at using it for all it was worth.

In Umbris Potestas Est
"The empire is run by sentients. Sentients are fallible." She said. "Building around an understanding of that fallibility is the secret to success." She replied. Following Farah to the scrub room, she noticed the extreme tension felt by the Zeltron woman as she had performed her surgical art with the skill of an expert. A hand would end up on the back of the woman's left shoulder - a reassuring pat.

"You did well." She said. "I had a belief that you would pull this off without a hitch, and you did so superbly. There are many more surgeries to do over the forthcoming weeks - I know those will occur just as well." She looked at Farah for a moment, then smiled. "You're everything I'd ever hoped you were. And more. tell you what... in about a month, I'd like to treat you to something." Vanessa replied. "Something luxurious."

For now, she listened to the sound of Darren being rolled away to rest in preparation for the remainder of his surgical procedures. This was going to be a process he would not soon forget.
