Too late for Zandra. She'd been drinking all day long by the time Lorane came across her. She crossed her arms on the table and set her head down.
"Good boy," she slurred, yawning, "Rawn did a'right with you. Jus' make sure ya don't go vanishin' on her or nothin..."
She kept one eye open, watching him. Would he? Disappear? Nah. No way. He was nothing like Calico. Calico had been strong, but what this kid lacked in muscle, he more than made up for in brains. He'd be alright. He'd figure something out. He could be trusted. A good thing too. After Calico disappeared, Rawnie had sworn to kill the man if she ever saw him again. She couldn't imagine what she'd do to Lorane if he up and left.
Her youngest daughter could be pretty scary sometimes...
