[member="Tefka"] really explained it well. Although we need more fleeting, the character development is more important through other skills.

I'm a Vice Admiral in the Nova Outbound Fleet, if you want to confront our power, go to the Admiral. [member="Cross Ikon"]
^ This.

Also, I don't do starfighting, because I could:

a ) actually be fleeting instead

b ) develop my characters waaaaaaaaay better on the ground, or interacting with other officers

c ) be describing the crazy stunts I use my Battle Dragons for.

On a similar topic, our fleet has no starfighters yet :p

2. Role-play is mostly character driven. Not starship driven.
My point is that starfighting can be character-building. I mean, the X-Wing series isn't popular because the writers wrote great descriptions of the battles. No, not all of it occurs in the cockpit. But not all of character-building for ground-pounders occurs in duels.

Basically, the point of this thread was to figure out who does starfight, and why others don't enjoy it, and what could bring pilots out of the woodwork.

Sorry if people are annoyed by it.

The only reason I haven't done it is because between the two characters I have with any substantial piloting skill, one would rather run away, and the other is a pacifist. I wouldn't be against it if I ever created the appropriate character, it just hasn't happened yet.

It would definitely be an interesting idea.

I actually try to avoid touching technology as a whole on SWRP, because I'm fearful that the moment I make a mistake or don't get a statistic or detail correct that I'll be jumped upon and torn to shred by know-it-all hostility and that my corpse will be consumed by the smug snake carrion.

I know that that the majority of the board are helpful and that they'll offer information and advice into that zone of Star Wars for me, but I'm also aware that we, like all areas of the internet have the vile and loud majority who would love nothing more than to jump down my throat at scream at me that 'I AM WRONG AND HERE ARE ALL THE WAYS HOW, YOU STUPID SCHUTTA!', without offering the means to learn and improve.

That is why I try to avoid technology, starfighting, blasters, roleplaying aboard ships and so much more.

I starfight and fleet more than I ground battle. Piloting is fun.

I have to agree. If you don't add many details on ground fighting, its gonna be like two men with a hammer taking turns with the hitting.

This. This man.

Anyway, thanks for the votes and stuff. If you like starfighting, hit me up. I'd love to get a squadron strike or dogfight going! We'll see if the community likes stuff that isn't basically Final Fantasy.

I need to get back into it.
Jared here flies a TIE Exalt
Marek sometimes flies a Rassilon, but mostly its an NPC that does
Riley Topol flies whatever Santhe will hand her

Marek and Token both are more shuttle pilots.

Prime could download into a fighter, I'm sure.

The point you seem to be missing is that all role-playing is "basically final fantasy", if you're referring to turn-based combat. You can't just go and ignore someone else's actions, and just because you're using a different mode of combat doesn't evade the fact that you're still doing the same thing.

Huh? What do you mean?

I fail to see how starfighting is not the exact same thing as ground combat in the air. The only difference is you are flying inside of a ship.

Oh, no yeah. I feel the same way. I've always approached it like that too. Though, (and just like Fleeting,) I'm open to new things, new techniques, new approaches, and wild immaturities. Lol. Thanks. :D

Honestly I don't starfight because I find it more complex than dueling, brawling or ground fighting. Not to take anything away from those things I just find them to be more my style and enjoyable personally. I'm always up to try new things though so maybe one day I will give it a serious shot.
