@Aerin Firebrand
(10/20)
Without wasting any more words, for such was not her style, Kaida climbed up on the horse Aerin was riding and settled down behind her. As soon as she had done this the Valkyri cavalry broke into a gallop, riding boldly and well...well, not into the jaws of death! This was good because the Eldorai was not fond of Charge of the Light Brigade actions.
Meta commentary aside the warriors rode onward towards the village. Ranks of the undead monstrosities sought to impede their path, but they were trampled down by the horses as they broke through them at full speed, crushed or cut down with fire and sword. Kaida did her part to cleat the way by slicing through zombies who tried to pull her and the shieldmaiden down or by simply freezing them solid with blasts of cold that seemed to congeal the air.
Very soon they had reached the village, for it still stood intact and had not yet been overrun by the undead. Doubtless it was just the calm before the storm. The moment of relief the Valkyri probably felt at being reunited with their brethren would not last long. A breath of cold steam escaped Kaida's mouth as she removed her helmet. Cold wind kissed her skin, but she did not seem to mind. Then again, she was the sort who welcomed the cold and ice.
Her armour was stained with blood, zombie innards and grime from the skirmish in the forest. Likewise it was covered in snow and frost. Climbing down from the horse she surveyed the area. The village was fortified, but obviously not built to withstand a massive zombie onslaught. In an ideal situation soldiers with bolters and repeaters would be standing on those walls, ready to rain down carnage on the horde. Land mines would have been laid, ensuring that the beasts' charge would be channelled into a well-prepared kill zone. Gunships dropping napalm or incendiary bombs upon the plains would not go amiss either. Or just have Angelii pyromancers bathe it in flames. However, things were not ideal and the people here were technologically backward, so she would deal.
She tilted her head slightly as she surveyed the ranks of archers who were standing sentinel, wielding bows and crossbows. "How many fighters does this village have? Any artillery, such as ballistae? Preferrably launching incendiary bolts." A ballista firing oil-based incendiary weapons would be nice. Catapult would be even nicer, but an isolated village probably would not have one.
