Hush the Storms
It had finally happened. Everything that she had been trained to prevent ended up happening anyway. Viers stood behind the group as they chatted about the gates; she knew about the rifts and how they functioned, she understood what was on the other side, but that was sacred information.
The girl kept her lips sealed as she listened to what was being said while her nose was deep in the handwritten notes her mentor had left her. Everything was in her letters, how to deal and what would be encountered. Viers was mad, but she knew there wasn't much she could do beyond try and fix this anomaly.
A black hood covered her short-cut hair and skull-painted face. She had finally begun to don the face of the sinner during her journey to atonement. Viers didn't mind it, most hadn't seen her face, and it kept her guilt at bay.
The book lowered, and she watched as the gate was activated by one of the troopers; she raised an eyebrow and scribbled a few notes in the margin of her mentor's journal. It found its way into her cloak, and she drew down her black hood revealing herself. As much as she wanted to share the information, it seemed the Knight leading them already knew enough to keep them safe. Viers stepped closer behind a girl with snow-white hair, and she felt a sudden stinging sensation flow through her body.
The branded runes along her forearms and back burned as the embedded crystals felt as if they were vibrating. It hurt, but it was exciting. Not many of the Order's disciples or masters ever went through the gates to the Netherworld, and it would be Viers' second time. Seeing the girl next to her, she smirked, "It's going to be fine." She calmly did her best to reassure the Echani before jumping in with the rest.
Viers felt her stomach twist as whatever pulled them through the rift tied a rope around her waist and dragged. It was an experience that she would never get used to, but the closer they got to the other side, the branding runes on her body glowed a faint blue and protected her from the adverse effects of the Netherworld. Landing, Viers groaned. Her skin felt on fire, and while she thought it would subside, it only got worse. At least the blue hue dissipated from her flesh.
There wasn't a moment to see if anyone had been dismembered because someone or something had greeted them. Instinctively, Viers drew the quarterstaff from her back. With a spin, the weapon tucked under her arm and against her body. The other's didn't seem ready to attack, so Viers held back - but her eyes narrowed, uncomfortable with the being's existence.
Amber eyes glanced towards Henna, waiting for the Knight's instruction. She was here under the woman's instruction - there was no reason to disobey her yet. Viers looked for the Echani and spoke quietly - "I don't trust this, do you?"
