Deadly Void (Fleeting)

Dha Werda Verda

The Mandalorian fleet kept up its closing action, threatening the Sith fleet at close range. The guns and turbolasers fired in volleys at the enemy fleet, vast amounts of energy flying through the void of space to destroy the foe. Verz opened a comm channel to all friendly ships.

"All ships, open fire! The enemy will break under the might of our guns today! Oya!"

The fleet's tactical officers fed targeting data to the gunners of their ships. Starfighters swarmed and fought among themselves, with bombers occasionally breaking away to nip at capital ships. The roar of guns from destroyers and frigates were drowned out by the roar of the Mandalorian heavyweights, unleashing hell on their hated enemy. Clan Dem'das ships relayed their movements to the ships under Verz's command, allowing for the fleets to communicate and coordinate effectively.

Graf let a smirk creep up upon his lips as another Wyyrlock-class, the Apocalypse, violently exploded in front of him with its hypermatter reactor having torn apart the ship from the inside. It was almost enough to counteract the grimace that soon replaced it, glaring broodingly as the Omega once again fired its crimson beams at the Spirit of Drunkenwell, destroying it with its final, critical, attack. "Lieutenant Kardal, give me a status report on the rest of our fleet." The recent-admiral ordered, giving an over-the-shoulder glance to the officer operating Com-Scan.

"Yes, Admiral. The front line reports that command has been re-established after the sudden destruction of the Sloane, Grand Admiral Kerkov's fleet has engaged the Rogue Sith command ship, the Darr Itah Grand Battlecruiser Dark Prince, its shields are currently down due to concentrated firepower, I'm seeing minor structural damage as well, a few more minutes an-" The lieutenant stopped suddenly, eyes bulging as he quickly read a new report "Admiral...The Vindicator...It's been destroyed...Captain Rausgeber...". All heads turned suddenly as a loud crashing sound came from near the viewports, Tanomas slammed his fist into a control panel, causing it to shoot out electrical sparks.

"Open a channel to the fleet, now." Graf barked to the comm operator, who nodded at him once the frequency was secured. "This is Admiral Graf of Death Squadron, I'm taking control of the front line. All ships close ranks! Corvettes and Frigates in the front, Cruisers and Destroyers in the rear! Captain Margs, secure the right flank and I'll take the left. Commodore Grant, you have the middle along with the Grand Admiral, destroy the escorts of the command ships. We may have been crippled! But we will not back down from a fight as grand as this! ADVANCE!" He orated loudly, giving the cut-off signal to the comm operator.

"Move Death Squadron up, there's a gap in the formation to the right of us." He said, glancing down at the tactical map, there were a couple of viable targets out there but he settled for a couple of Wyyrlock-classes "Target those two destroyers in the mid frontal portion of their formation. This time leave the Daggers out and have them screen against enemy fighters, they are too ineffective against the thick armor plating." He ordered once more, pointing out of the viewports as turbolasers swung, firing their deadly green lasers across the deadly void of space, impacting the shields of the destroyers.

Summary of Actions:
  • Admiral Graf has assumed control of the front line
  • Death Squadron have moved up.
  • Firing at destroyers belonging to [member="Omega"] at hexes 6.15 and 6.16

The results of their barrage were not what Natasi was hoping. The targets were impacted minimally, at best. She frowned gravely and looked across the command station to the gunnery coordinator. "Are we doing any damage?" Natasi demanded of the gunnery coordinator, who gave the Grand Moff a palms-up shrug.

"Moderate, ma'am," he replied. "Unfortunately it seems our range has made some of our fire ineffective."

"We'll have to change that," said Natasi, looking back up to the coordinator.

Her advisers were quick to clamor. "Your Excellency, this is a command ship -- a powerful one, yes, but a command ship nonetheless. You are the Grand Moff. We cannot afford to risk you and this ship. It's too dangerous! After Rausgeber and Yvarro -- another loss -- particularly of a senior member of the First Order..." Natasi bowed her head over the table; the invocation of Yvarro's name so soon after her apparent death was a heavy blow. Rausgeber, too, for his flaws was a personality and dedicated to the First Order. Could she risk less than they? When she held herself out as a paragon, a mother to the nation?

Natasi studied the map, aware of the multiple pairs of eyes on her. What they said was true, but at the end of the day, it didn't matter if Natasi or the Concordia survived this fight if the Rogue Sith did, too. "I'm sorry, gentlemen. It's time to see what the Concordia can do. Besides, when this is all over, I want to be able to look the Navy in the face. Move us here." Natasi opened a channel to the rest of Battlegroup Nebula, and she activated coordinates on the map, frighteningly close to the front lines, but where the big guns could reach. "The Executrices here. Daggers here and here. I'm highlighting our targets. I want them eliminated. Am I understood?" A chorus of affirmative responses came in from Grantham, Shackleton, and Flintshire.

"We can't wait all day for the search and rescue to complete. We have rapid response incoming. Time for us to move on. You have your orders. Go now."

And then, the Apocalypse erupted in flame -- seemed to burst at its seams -- and then exploded, creating for a moment a retina-searing flash that made Natasi wince even though she hadn't been looking out the viewport.

The cheers of the First Order's pilots were shared on the bridge of the Concordia, where some good news was needed following the shock of the apparent loss of Admiral Yvarro and Captain Rausgeber. Natasi herself allowed herself breathless smile across the deck at [member="Roderik von Brinkerhoff"], her eyes shining with the unshed tears of gratitude for his skillful -- one might say, masterful -- training and preparation of the starfighter corps. He had taken a good fighter pilot program and made it great. There passed some understanding between them -- a look that cemented the recognition that she had come to rely on him professionally but also as an adviser and friend.

And then came the alert across her display, and the world stood still.

UECdwhq.gif
Alpha Lead was hit. She switched over to that channel on her earpiece, turning back to the table fully. She zoomed in on that sector. To her dismay, Pierce wasn't out of the woods -- not by a long shot. His position was still swarming with Rogue Sith fighters as the First Order performed mop-up operations there. Her jaw dropped as she watched on the strategy map, listened over the channel. Pierce was in trouble. Natasi's eyes widened in horror, and she instinctively turned towards her advisers, gaping in disbelief at their failure to react with just the same sense of panic and dread that Natasi did. She couldn't make herself believe what she was seeing, what she was hearing. After her devotion, after all the suffering she had done since Herevan, since Hoth, was the Balance going to claim yet another one of her loved ones? What lesson was she being taught? She couldn't imagine what good she had received that could justify the deaths of her beloved brother and father, the loss of her only love, the anguish of seeing Herevan burned -- and now this? The possible death of the closest family she had left? What twisted sense of Balance was this?

"Mission Control, this is Alpha Lead, reassessing the status of my vehicle. Solar engine on the starboard side is down to thirty percent -- make that twenty eight -- " Natasi half-turned towards Colonel von Brinkerhoff, unsure of what to order, what to ask, shock and grief, fear and disbelief battling for control of her facial expression as the devastating outcome of Pierce's firefights were spelled out. " --uh, twenty-five -- Angel, I'm losing the engine. Auxiliary power coupling damaged. I'm getting very little out of the stick, over."

XMhcvU2.gif

Only when Pierce's icon on the map turned deep orange and began to move -- quickly and irrationally -- did Natasi take a few tentative steps towards von Brinkerhoff's position, looking at him, eyes widening and mouth gaping. Pierce was not alone in thinking himself invincible; he had been proving himself so since childhood, with Natasi as a witness. The time he created a ramp and used it to fly toboggans over a slight cliff and onto the frozen lake some meters below. When he had shot a stag and been charged, having to finish the animal off with his bare hands. The moment she had looked on in terror as his tree fort came collapsing down with him inside. He had always bounced back up -- perhaps bloodied, perhaps bruised, almost certainly in trouble with his mother -- but alive and usually laughing off his injuries.

Behind her, on the map, Natasi couldn't see the blip on the map turn to a grey X, but in the far distance she thought she could hear Pierce laughing.

The greatest weakness of the One Sith Navy, according to a now meaninglessly classified report written by Cyrus to the Executor of War around six months ago, had been the prevailing lack of unity in concept of its starfighter corps. Starting with a somewhat archaic focus on the idea of quantity over quality, to the fact that individual commands retained almost all power with regard to acquisition, it meant that the whole system was a chaotic mess with distressingly lax training and maintenance standards.

In other words, it was far from a grade-A force, in stark contrast to the First Order. Matched against each other, the First Order fighters were slightly outnumbered, but had better training, flew in superior craft, and were receiving the benefit of battle meditation. There was also the fact that while standards across the board for the One Sith may have been lax, Cyrus' had never been. The four squadrons of Star Wing II's he'd brought along were all former OS pilots, but all thoroughly experienced in engaging enemy attack craft.

They flew in first, in a large staggered line, with heavier fighters running escort and the bulk of the TIE/MN's and TIE/IN's in a blob in the center. Behind that blob flew the rest of the bombers, who lacked the ability to tangle with enemy fighters even for short periods of time. Not that running into a dogfight was the intention of the the Star Wings, even with their SLAM drive.

It was a basic strategy really, only workable because the Star Wing's had the magazines to handle it and still be effective bombers, and because the SLAM drives enabled them to clear out before things got too hot. At max missile engagement range they began to open fire, hundreds of concussion missiles streaking out to meet the incoming waves of Sith attack craft. Each Star Wing carried 36 warheads, and half were allocated to this action.

700 missiles, fired in pairs or groups of four flew out to attrite the enemy forces. Once the magazines were half empty, the Star Wings broke off, with the heavy TIE/D's flying escort, and as they cleared a gap in the center of their formation the mass of faster fighters swarmed out and into the now shattered enemy formation.

It was not, all things considered, a particularly even fight. But sheer numbers has some weight, and losses were heavy for the First Order, though considered sustainable. A full squadron of Star Wings were taken out of the fight, swarmed and overwhelmed by the vengeful wrath of Sith pilots. Three other squadrons of fighters, mostly MN's were rendered all but ineffective. The bombers, well guarded as they were, suffered some as well, with casualties across almost all the squadrons (except one unit of FO/SK's that made it through unscathed.

Then it was just a matter of facing down the guns of the Krayt. Those fighters that reached the Star Destroyer ran interference, creating as much 'noise' as possible to blind sensor readings and confuse defense guns. The FO/SK's were the first wave, launching their ordnance at range and setting up for re-attack as the second wave, comprised of the surviving Star Wings flew in and emptied their magazines at close range. It was a textbook strike mission, a multi-axis attack using velocity and sheer volume of warheads to overwhelm defenses. 800 years ago the Rebel Alliance had called it the Nova Flare maneuver. Properly conducted, you could butcher a Star Destroyer in a single run.

Krayt was in for a bad day.

---

While most of Battlegroup Fury's attack craft were bringing the pain on the enemy capital ships, the fleet escorts were paying the price of focusing on enemy capital ships. The Corsair's surprise assault on the enemy carrier had done well, but now they faced the combined fire of their sister ships. The scene quickly became a chaotic melee as Corsair's engaged in what was practically dogfight formations, with most targeting coming down to visual recognition of friend or foe. The Celeres' proved markedly less effective, but the concussion missiles were remarkably adept at tracking the Corsair's.

---

The FIV Raider banked hard, pushing its inertial compensators to their limits as it attempted to juke out of the firing path of an enemy Corsair. The metal frame of the ship whined in protest, but a misstep here meant death.

"Enemy missiles inbound, engaging with HARM!"

The defense system fired in auto, unleashing interceptor missiles in volleys of four. With a face pale as snow, Lieutenant Haman silently counted in his head. 16... 20... 24... This was the fourth time defending against enemy warheads in as many minutes, and once the HARM ran out...

"Second launch detected, inbound, engaging!"

40... 44... 48... .feth.

Haman's last order was one of furious desperation. With a last vicious gasp the Raider accelerated hard right towards the Celeres that had targeted it, opening fire with the lethal Mauler Turbolasers at close range. They got three volleys off before a set of missiles punched through the shields and blew the prow of ship into so much space dust.

---

Lieutenant Gable of the Wrack watched with a growing unease as a slowly expanding fireball replaced the Raider on his main display. The Corsairs were locked into a life and death struggle, and he fully expected to be engaged in a similar fight soon. For now though, their only threats were three Fenris frigates, general purpose ships not particularly well suited to taking down an assault frigate like a Boneshatter. They'd caught the Havoc by surprise but now the remaining ships of EcRon 32 were covering each other in pairs, trading damage between their shield systems while they awaited new orders.

Gable's confidence in his ship's ability to withstand concentrated fire came crashing down as a pair of deck cannon shots came crashing through the shields and penetrated the hull amidships. Thrown to the ground by the impact, he found himself struggling to rise as blood poured down his face. He pulled himself to his knees, felt suddenly lightheaded, and then simply shouted orders as he stared at the deck below him.

"Those karking curs, turn the squadron around and engage enemy escorts, lets see how well they stand up to our ordnance up close."

He tried to stand again and collapsed. Somewhere in the distance he heard shouting, and felt the ship shift as it altered course. It all seemed so far away, and even as he managed to crawl towards the command seat darkness closed in around him.

---

The attack craft of the EcRon 32 were not inactive either, but nor were they foolish enough to start attack runs on the very capable Fenris-frigates. Instead they pursued the squadrons heading to intercept the main air wing assault and hit them from the rear. This was no planned suicide mission, it was a calculated hit and run, with the surviving fighters heading towards the gradually advancing Support Element 40, who's two carriers could act as rearm points for the beleaguered strike craft.

---

Commander Estin Avuz of the Anguish had served under Cyrus for years now, following him through hell and highwater. He'd faced Republic ships countless times, and never once had been afraid of defeat. Death had been an ever-present possibility, of course, but never so certain as it was now. As the shields of the Anguish failed under Hypervelocity cannon barrage, he raised a tightwave comm to the Agony, also suffering the predations of the Sith fleet.

"Well, Cam, this is it."

The man on the other end of the comm, Commander Camrios, gave only a tight smile in response. They'd been close friends since the Academy, depending on each other to survive the ruthless advancement scheme that seemed to always exist whenever Sith were in charge. It was ironic in a way, now that they finally didn't need to literally watch each others backs, they still facing death at the hands of old comrades.

"Seems like. You figure the old man gives a feth about it?"

Avuz considered this for a moment, his thoughts only somewhat interrupted by the horribly loud klaxon that indicated imminent shield collapse. "Only like a child losing a toy."

"True enough, but wouldn't want to disappoint, eh?" Cam's smile loosened up some, but his eyes remained impossibly grim.

"Sure, on your lead."

The two Heavy Cruisers, each sporting a brilliant halo of fire as their shield systems struggled to sustain themselves, formed into a line and charged, shifting their fire onto the Flense and Centurion.

---

Cyrus almost gave a cry of joy as he watched the southern flank of the Sith formation disintegrate under concentrated fire. He wasted no time in sending an order out to Brevet-Admiral Graf to close up the flank and envelop the enemy forces. Surrounded by enemy warships, they would soon find the need to even shields across all their facings, dividing the attention of both their offensive and defensive capabilities.

All across the battlefield the Sith forces seemed to be in retreat. They had miscalculated, badly, and while Cyrus would have loved to assume it was all his presence he wasn't that dumb or arrogant. They had gambled against the galaxy and the powers that be had come to collect.

But the collapse of the Sith center had little to do with the presence of other fleets, that much he could attribute to the superior quality of the First Order fleet and his own strategy. It was enough for now. Even with heavy casualties he'd all but won. The rest was clean up. He opened a tightwave to the Dark Prince, where the harch Grand Admiral doubtless held her command.

"You always wondered what would happen if we went head to head, Chysa'sk. Now you know. Stew on that while you burn in hell."

The Contempt turned it's guns onto Dark Prince, joining [member="William Kerkov"]'s fellow Darr Itah in overseeing the destruction of their sister ship.

---
Summary of Actions
  • Contempt engaging Dark Prince with +10 buff from Cyrus' sneering.
  • Warspite shifting fire onto Centurion, back up by Agony and Anguish conducting glorious final charges.
  • Attack Craft lose uh, say, six to seven squadrons total distributed across all units.
  • Corsairs gonna die, maybe take some Celeres' with em.
  • Boneshatters charging Fenri. That's not a fair fight at close range. EcRon squadrons hitting enemy in the rear.

Command Bridge, Resurgent-class Star Destroyer 'Concordia'

While watching the telemetry data streaming into his display regarding an imminent attack run on an enemy star destroyer, a ship identified as the Apocalypse, Roderik unconsciously allowed himself to sigh deeply. The attack was commencing after a vicious starfighter counter-attacck by the Rogue Sith forces. They rushed out to face his numerically superior fighters - augmented by fighter wings from throughout the rest of the First Order's fleet, operating decidedly superior craft and operating with renewed vigor and instinct, provided by [member="Avicus DuSang"] and his flawless performance in battle meditation.

The First Order's starfighters had annihilated the fighter squadrons arrayed to meet them, before setting their sights on the Apocalypse, but at a cost. They had cut down the Rogue Sith at a rate of two-to-one and maintained a consistent edge throughout the entire sprawling and spiraling battle, but this still left many dead or helpless injured floating in the unsettling void of deep space. His own forces, so used to being at the front of the battle in the most aggressive posture, had taken significant losses - though they had a tremendous kill count to show for it, in particular the premier squadrons based off of the Concordia. [member="Pierce Fortan III"] had scored more than his share to be considered an ace-in-a-day, to which Roderik had been watching the flight data of most of the engagement. Living vicariously through his closest friend, and hand-chosen successor leading the 100th Fighter Squadron - the First Order's top starfighter unit and former home to equally as successful ace-in-a-day, [member="Nils Brenner"], whose squadron had been racking up the highest kill count of this battle so far. Another of the squadron commanders operating in this theatre under Roderik's command was an alumni of the 100th, and skilled fighter-bomber pilot, [member="Greta Kohler"], whom the Colonel thought subconsciously, would most likely have been the one to land the killing concussion missile blow to the Apocalypse.

There were other pilots his mind drifted to in the time between attack run initiation and completion. [member="Sara Lee Jones"], who had grown into a competent and exceedingly loyal pilot and leader of her own flight among the 100th Fighter Squadron. Bolt flight, she had excitedly nicknamed them, he recalled. [member="Collin Calhoun"] was out there too, he knew. One of the newest additions, though with the aptitude and killer instincts that immediately lead him to [member="Nils Brenner"]'s attention, and into his squadron.

"Look, sir." Major Marston interrupted Roderik's sentimental thoughts, as the newest data came in, indicating the successful destruction of the target vessel. He watched as the icon on the holo-projector changed color and shape. As if to hammer home the point, the Major turned up the comm-link's volume level. Loud cheering emanated from the speakers, sparking a new excited energy in Roderik. His excitement intensified as the muffled cheers of his pilots incorporated with that of the bridge crew.

The Colonel flashed a grin back to his executive officer, before turning with a smile to send a glance at [member="Natasi Fortan"], whom he anticipated to be reviewing her own screens and displays. Instead, he found her smiling back at him. He gave her a little nod of his head in acknowledgement, with his smile growing broader yet.

With his attention drawn to the Grand Moff, Roderik missed out on the holographic projector's icon changing for Concordia's Alpha Lead, [member="Pierce Fortan III"]. The cheering seemed to immediately cease, as he heard a message break through the comm-link frequency.

"Mission Control, this is Alpha Lead, reassessing the status of my vehicle. Solar engine on the starboard side is down to thirty percent -- make that twenty eight -- uh, twenty-five -- Angel, I'm losing the engine. Auxiliary power coupling damaged. I'm getting very little out of the stick, over."

Roderik grimaced, his teeth grinding painfully as if his jaw had been wired shut. Angel. Roderik's call sign - Pierce was speaking directly to him, which sent a shock-wave of guilt and remorse through the otherwise collected officer. All at once, Roderik visualized the last occasion he had, he thought, successfully convinced Pierce to the benefits of maintaining his commission within the First Order's Starfighter Corps. How he had tried hard to convince Pierce over the years to be more like himself, to be a career man, to put the needs of the First Order above all else. And now what?

He could not look away from Natasi, he could see the fear, the panic, the grief in her eyes, and it horrified him to think she may hold him responsible. Perhaps he was, for all of his insistence that Pierce stay. The First Order had taken to great lengths to achieve a level of survivability among its Starfighter Corps pilots. Pilots, along with their TIE Fighters, were considered to be important and valuable resources and assets. Ejector seats, life support systems, these were all new concepts to an Imperial fighter pilot, but they still were only basic means for protection and recovery. The nature of their profession still dictated many be that sacrificed to the fates and blind luck, and the threat of death existed even when everything went according to plan.

No. He thought, quickly dispelling the internalized notion that Pierce was already gone. Already dead. There was always hope to hold out to, especially where Pierce was concerned.

Resolution filled Roderik's mind - fueled sharply by the battle meditation provided by their very own Sith admiral, and enhanced by desire to do the right thing by a subordinate - however favored he may be, and to uphold his personal sense of righteous duty and obligation to his men and women, as well as by a deeper unconscious demand of himself not to fail [member="Natasi Fortan"], or at least, not to return alive if he did.

He watched as Natasi took a faltering half-step towards him. The Colonel mouthed something in response to her, too far to be heard distinctly above the noise of the bridge. Something that could've been interpreted as, 'I will bring him home', before he abruptly turned to Major Marston. Determination, training, and now a need for vengeance had spurred his decisions.

"Redirect the nearest recovery shuttle to his distress beacon, I don't care who protests, you just make it happen. And find us the next target. I want attack patterns selected before I'm gone." He didn't have to specify to the man what he meant by gone. He could already tell in the Colonel's expression and demeanor, that he was suiting up to take the fight out there.

"I'll cover you from the top brass, just..." Marston paused as he referred to the head of the Starfighter Corps, General Breyer, who would just as soon see Roderik court-marshaled than rewarded for any fool-headed acts of valor.

"Good luck."

Roderik could tell the man was holding back, 'Come back safely, sir', for fear of sending any bad omens or otherwise superstitious considerations.

Turning away from his duty station with a clenched fist, the Colonel did not afford himself one last look at Natasi as he hurriedly rushed towards the rear of the bridge, and the turbolift that would take him down to the hangar bay. He wasn't sure if she would try to convince him against it in a more heavy-handed way than his executive officer could have. Or perhaps she would have given him her complete blessing, but it was a risk he simply would not afford himself to take as he slipped into the turbolift.

After a short journey he exited the lift and stepped out onto the durasteel deck plating of the primary TIE hangar bay. Immediately he rushed for the flight ready room, where he switched into his lesser used flight-suit and life support regulator. Roderik met the launch officer and cleared his departure using his credentials as the Wing Commander of the vessel.

Cockpit of a TIE/sf space superiority starfighter

It was not long after that Roderik was zooming away from the Concordia at a high speed. He listened intently to the radio traffic as he raced towards the location marked on his helmet's heads-up display, the locating indicating the active distress beacon located near the debris of Pierce's stricken starfighter. Roderik's power was diverted almost entirely to engines, with just token energy left to lasers, enough for a few stray blasts while he gave himself time to switch to combat footing.

He flew by instinct, guided by the mysterious battle meditation and muscle memory combined into a singular sense of purpose.

"Concordia Wing, this is Angel. Assuming Alpha Lead, over." He spoke on the frequency for all the Wings to overhear. It would undoubtedly boost morale, knowing that their overall commander had taken to the field, especially in such a grave time, as when one of their beloved commanders had been shot down.

As he neared the rest of his fighters he switched to a combat footing, redirecting power equally to weapons and shields, and diminished power to engines. He would approach slower, which was fine. His talent lay in slow speed, tighter turn maneuvering. Lower speeds equated to lower G-forces acting on his body, allowing more aggressive flying at less risk of blacking out.

It was not long before the Colonel was detecting the smaller scale conflict to mop up the remainder of Rogue Sith fighters operating in the area. His short range sensors picked up numerous contacts, swarming every which way. His expression grew cold from under his helmet, as his eyes narrowed and attention narrowed to a razor focus. Roderik isolated the location of [member="Sara Lee Jones"] as she circled the downed Captain Fortan the Third. He banked sharply to the left and initiated a curved, steep climb up to meet them. As he came in closer to her 'bolt' flight he recognized his starfighter was inverted in comparison to theirs.

Pulling gently on the control yoke, Roderik eased the TIE fighter into a roll until it was righted with theirs, and passed out in front of the cockpit canopy/view-port of Lieutenant Jones.

"Get back in the fight, Bolt Leader, I'll wait out for the rescue party." He called over the comm while at the same time pushing the throttle all the way forward, causing his nimble fighter to rocket forward while he tried to visually scan the dark of space for signs of Pierce. Signs of life.

What he caught was a sign of the next best thing. A lone enemy fighter, disengaging from a fight - running from helping a friendly in an attempt to prolong his own life. Not today.

Checking instinctively his built up energy supply for lasers and shields, both good, Roderik decided to commit to the attack. The Rogue Sith starfighter flew in a straight and level fashion, attempting to create as wide a gap as possible between himself and his previous foe. An easy victim for an enraged and empowered fighter pilot. Roderik swooped in from high above, taking a flight path that would bring him within just meters of the enemy at the first pass -- which was all he needed. He flew in on the Sith fighters' blind spot, and opened fire at no more than 300 meters, with a medium deflection shot. The laser blasts tore through the shields and into the center fuselage of his opponent, and the angry First Order ace walked the fire in, until each blast until the merge and passing, was a direct hit on the Sith fighter's cockpit.

The ferocity at which Roderik was fighting almost startled even himself, though he was unsure of if he could truly blame the battle meditation and amplification of his emotions, or if the blood-lust was merely a hidden component of his own personality.

Rendered in pixelated perfection, Astarii watched in blood-curdling horror as the distant Omega weapon had once again cycled its Superlaser to activation. The coalescing energies are drawn forth from the ether and stabilized into a beam of atomic devastation. It should’ve been impossible for them to fire such a weapon in quick succession, and yet - it happened - right before her eyes. For a moment of stunned disbelief, she knew that the battle’s resolution was coming ever closer. It was the odd sense of finality drifting just beyond the reach of her conscious mind, a fact that she couldn’t grasp due to the limitations of her mortal mind. However, she would not be cowed by such losses. She was not the craven wolf that buckled when greater prey slaughtered its pack-brothers. She was not the foolish dragon that dwelled within the mountain, seeking to relive past glories whilst nestled upon the spoils of wars long forgotten. Astarii was, for all intents and purposes, a Lioness amongst men, and she would lead whatever remained of her pride into the swirling tides of the void-based melee and sink her ragged fangs into the beating heart of her opposition.

With the Spirit of Druckenwell venting atmosphere in blooming pillars of flame, the Hapan had shouted a quick succession of Orders down the chain of command. It was a dangerous game they were about to play, but while she would have her Super Star Defender sink it fangs into the foe, there was still various elements that her crew could follow through with. The Leviathan was, for lack of a better word, a City drifting through the ashen clouds and contained many moving parts to create the whole. Thus, as the savior pods from her sister ship were catapulted into the void, the Gunships and Troop Transports dusted off the trio of hangar decks and painted the infinite canvas of night with their metallic forms. Their holds were marginally filled with armored soldiers, whom were previously ordered and preparing to repel boarders once the warship was within range, now repurposed to assist in whatever capacity they could to expedite the recovery of the Star Dreadnought’s crew.

As the rescue operation was underway, the Hapan began focusing on moving her pieces across the board - ensuring that the entirety of her fleet was able to combat whatever was left of the folding One Sith lines. The Second Immortal Command line had faltered as she expected, falling prey to the advances of the Coalition fleet, leaving nothing more than atomized dust as their vessels began to push through the pirouetting debris. She smiled then as the realization came that the Immortal-Class Star Dreadnought designated Jotun was nothing more than a riddled corpse of a ship, slain by the combined force of her expeditionary fleet. Pushing aside the thoughts of how long it had taken and how much ammunition she had expended, it was still a personal victory; despite how sour it tasted across her tongue.

“Helm!” She shouted over the din of the chaotic Command deck, “Align ourselves to the Second grid and twelfth allocation! I want us to remain on station until the Crew from the Spirit is safely extracted from the battlefield. Get your hand on the emergency thrusters just in case the Omega weapon decides to break all sense of realism and fire again. I don’t want this ship sharing the Spirit’s heroic sacrifice anytime soon.”

“Aye, Ma’am!”

Satisfied with the Lead pilot's response, Astarii turned towards her Weapons Master and a mere portion of his Gunnery command crew. “Gunnery control! Once we’re aligned with that Immortal designate: Colossus, I want you to open up with two salvo’s from our Ion cannons, the target’s stationary and the bolts are unlikely to miss. During their unleashment, cycle the Javelin’s to fire at full power. The man turned towards his Commander and cocked a curious eyebrow. “How many cannons this cycle, ma’am?” Astarii smiled. “All of them.” The man coughed out a choked gesture of surprise. “Ma’am?” The Hapan’s eyes narrowed into commanding slits. “Do as commanded, Weapons Master. I know that the hyper-matter reactor can handle it, and this Immortal will need to die much faster than the last. Especially if we’re to push through and engage this Omega weapon itself.” He nodded after a moment, considering just how many shells that they were about to expend. With four cannons, there would be twelve ferromagnetic slugs shot through the magnetic accelerators and cast towards the stationary target at superluminal speeds. Coupled with the heavy long-range Ion cannons, it would assail the impressive shields of the distant Star Dreadnought with titanic force. That was just with two of the Leviathan’s primary weapon systems. Now that much of their firing path had been cleared by her allies in the Coalition forces, the Super Star Defender could fire more than just its long range weaponry - meaning a much greater array of firepower could be brought to bear.

“Also, fire the Mass drivers and unleash two salvos of torpedoes and assault concussion missiles. Their shields should be weakened by the Hypervelocity rounds paired with the ion cannons, let’s ensure that we follow up on this moment of opportunity.”

“Compliance!” He yelled, before turning back towards his subordinates and their command terminals.

That settled the Leviathan’s move, now it was time to shuffle the Knights and Bishop’s in this aetheric game of Regicide. The vessels that she had previously combined in an aptly named battlegroup were searching the void for another target, but those that their Captain’s had chosen would do little more than be a waste of their munitions. Thus, directing several of her tacticians to manipulate the hololithic display before her, Astarii expanded the rendered image to view the veritable sea of possible targets Kerrigan’s Wroth could be directed towards. It was there that she had found the Wyyrlok Class Star Destroyer, bearing the name Dictator from its signaling mast. Relatively untouched and firing salvo after thunderous salvo towards their allies in the fourth/eighth grid accolations. Dispatching her commands in a stream of wordless perfection, Astarii had seen to altering the battlegroup’s orientation - ensuring that their ship-killing ordinance was put to good use. The Horn Class Escort Cruisers were the first to align themselves with the distant warship, cycling their long-range weapons to full power before casting out their furious cannonade with reckless abandon. Energy projectiles, Fast-mount Turbolasers, and Cluster Concussion Missiles were catapulted into the void, spilling out of their respective vessels like hungry iron children.

Eriadu’s Vengeance was the slowest of the assigned task force, moving with predatory grace as it aligned its primary cannon towards the distant Dictator. However, with the Escort Cruisers cooking off dozens of hostile projectiles, the Noble-Class Star Defender brought more to bear than its smaller cousins. Four of the Mini-Javelin Hypervelocity guns cycled themselves to full power, firing in concert with the primary Javelin cannon and its impressive array of Octuple turbolaser batteries, heavy dual Ion cannons, and energy torpedoes of both the heavy and light variety.

From there, Astarii’s attentions flickered towards the battlegroup she had named Avenger. They had killed the Scorpion in concert with various elements of the Coalition Armada, and the ride she felt for such an achievement barely scraped the surface of her crushing despair at the loss of the Spirit. Unwilling to break, however, the Hapan ordered the three warships to ratchet their weapons towards the Dark Blade class Dreadnought designate: Ballista. They were much closer to their target than their fellow vessels, and as such, the use of long range weaponry would not only utterly devastate the enemy at closer range, these warships would be able to bring the full might of their weapons to bear. It would hopefully be enough to bust through the enemies shields, but as the case with the Jotun had proven - these Dreadnought’s might’ve undergone similar, previously unknown upgrades. The Noble and Excubitor fired their massive maneuvering thrusters in concert, aligning themselves with the ‘Ballista,’ before unleashing their arsenal mere seconds after the projected targeting solutions had sung true.

Finally, she turned her augmented gaze upon the Ascendant. Having been previously ineffective against their larger target, despite the fact it still fell prey to their combined assault soon after, she began to ponder where they would be the most effective. There wasn’t much choi- Then she saw it. An Assault Frigate, matching the classification of the Boneshatter line, was engaging a friendly Alliance command cruiser at closer range, leaving their flank exposed. This was the perfect opportunity for the Ascendant to bloody their fangs upon the unsuspecting foe. Swiftly manipulating the rendered image and plotting out the avenue of attack, the Fleet Admiral bellowed her commands to her subordinates, ensuring they heard her every word as they were relayed. Once the command had been issued through the darkened expanse, she narrowed her eyes in anticipation and watched as the Assault Frigates and their escorts moved towards the third/eleventh grid allocation with murderous intent. This would place them well within the range of the distant foe’s starboard side, but there was little they could do against shielding themselves from what would come next. Ship-killing ordinance cycled to full-power in the time it had taken the warships to complete their maneuver, and when they were aligned - the Javelin’s unleashed their thunderous cannonade into the vulnerable flanks of the Boneshatter-class assault frigate, each choosing their solitary target and firing in concert with their allied forces. Mass drivers and Ion cannons fired scant seconds later, followed swiftly thereafter by light energy torpedoes and capital-ship slaying assault concussion missiles. The corvettes began unleashing their pitiful array of weapons, when compared to their larger cousins and did so with effect in mind - seeking to hone their murderous craft with every coalesced nuclear salvo.

“Word from the Fourteenth, Ma’am!” By those words, Astarii’s attention was torn from the beautiful Danse Macabre playing out before her. “What is it?” She retorted. Within seconds, as the man’s voice was nearly drowned out by the raucous din of the Command Deck, her melancholic smile had faded - replaced by one of triumphant hubris. “They’re breaking through. They’re breaking through!”

The Hapan laughed, drawing curious gazes from her assembled tacticians.

“Send them my regards, and tell their command staff I owe them a round - if we survive this endeavor.” She then turned her gaze back towards the hololithic display and allowed a haunting sense of foreboding to warp her disfigured features into a masque of disappointment. “I’m going to go broke with the amount of booze I’ll be buying...”

Combat Summary

The ‘Leviathan’ launches its Gunships and Troop Transports, half filled with Marines, to assist in Search and Rescue operations around the dying ‘Spirit of the Druckenwell.' The Super Star Destroyer orientates itself towards another Immortal, and when the path is clear of friendlies, it fires everything it has at its disposal in that firing arc, seeking to wound - if not kill the Immortal named ‘Colossus‘with an ordered display of violence. (See above paragraph(s) and below for description of what was fired and in what order.)

Battlegroup Kerrigan’s Wroth target’s the Wyyrlok ‘Dictator’ after having assisted the Leviathan in killing the ‘Jotun.’ (See above paragraph(s) and below for description of what was fired and in what order.)

Battlegroup Avenger targets the Dark Blade ‘Ballista’ after assisting in slaying the ‘Scorpion.’ (See above paragraph(s) and below for description of what was fired and in what order.)

Battlegroup Ascendant moves towards and engages the Boneshatter ‘Grinder’ from its starboard flank, assisting the Coalition Forces in their assault. (See above paragraph(s) and below for description of what was fired and in what order.)

Fires had broken out across the ship. Power conduits continued to rupture as the whole network began to experience a cascading failure. Too many nodes were compromised, not enough technicians around to repair them in short order. The chaos of the evacuation was everywhere as people ran to get to escape pods. Though there was more than enough, owing to all non-essential personnel being evacuated prior to launch, the added pressure of the Omega superlaser made everyone on edge. There was no telling when it would fire again. With the shield emitters down all over the ship, there was nothing to hold this next blast back. Even without the threat of the superlaser, with no shields and the engines still off-line, a call for evacuation was probably still inevitable. Any targeted hits to the weapon emplacements would rapidly defang the ship, and the hull was not nearly so strong as to hold against concentrated fire.

From space, whole sections of hull plating blew away from explosive bolts, clearing the way for the escape pods to launch. They blasted out before turning to angle towards Alliance or Republic ships; any starport in an ion storm, as the saying was. Behind them, the Spirit of Druckenwell continued to drift, unable to stop its slow drift after the hanger's depressurization. Stray turbolaser bolts found purchase against the fallen titan's hull, generating great explosions that ripped metal to pieces. Medical pods were launched from several sections, each carrying critically wounded individuals. Every pod had a broadcast tag identifying it as an escape pod needing pick up.

From the bridge, Ayden furiously worked on one of the last functioning consoles. There wasn't any fear of data loss, as the ship's databanks had already been backed up. Rather, he was purging them to ensure that no scrap of data was left in the unfortunate event that they were all forced out of the system prior to destroying the weapon and defeating the Rogue Sith fleet. Of course, he mused with a grim smile, there was next to no chance that anything would survive the coming blast, but he was a man of caution. And that meant that everything was covered in his plans. Satisfied that the purge was in progress, he turned and took one last look around the ruins of the bridge. The ship had been one that he had commanded personally in several major battles, and had been the keystone to defending world after world from invasion. Perhaps its efforts here would be remembered as invaluable to the success of the joint task force that worked to preserve lives across the galaxy.

With a bittersweet farewell, Ayden turned and entered the last remaining command escape pod. Fastening the crash webbing, he hit the launch button and watched as a panel slid down to seal the pod. A sudden explosion of force from beneath him sent the pod blasting away from the doomed flagship. He watched with a mounting feeling of regret as the Omega weapon charged its weapon for one last strike. The intensity of the superlaser was several times more brilliant than before, heralding the true strength of the weapon. When it was unleashed, Ayden had to shield his eyes and look away as the pod did not have the same sort of polarization factor to the windows as a capital ship might. As the merciless glare diminished, Ayden was dumbstruck at what he saw. Almost nothing was left of the mighty ship.

Such was the power of the blast that it had obliterated virtually all of the ship. The reactor, the main computer, the engines and hyperdrive, the shield generator; all the critical structures were virtually atomized. Only a pair of wings were left, powerless and adrift as they were now unanchored from the ship. One began to drift in the direction of Omega. Ayden, furious at his inability to do anything else, began to concentrate as he reached out to the Force. His senses were instantly alight as he felt everything that was going on at the battlefield. He could feel the currents of the Force being forcibly tugged and manipulated by so many. It would have been impossible to see through the pool of the Force, but it would not be much to do other more direct actions.

Sweat immediately broke across his forehead as he concentrated and focused his mental work. He had never before moved something quite so large, though he was not unused to attempts to manipulate across a wide swath of space. Feeling the damaged weight of the main battery, the metallic taste of the Javelin cannons, Ayden spun and manipulated the threads of the Force to begin to change the wing's direction to give it a more direct line towards Omega. Blood began to roll freely from one nostril as pain split through his mind as the strain took a toll on his body.

The Noble cruisers continued to press forward, moving through arcs and banks to throw off the Rogue Sith's sensors. Their turrets continued to track the Sith, firing in waves alongside the missile tubes and mass drivers. Brilliant lights danced across their forms as Sith fire struck and tore at them. Moving as they were, the cruisers pushed forward between cruiser and frigate, moving closer to the Omega weapon. The Horn-class Escort Cruisers and the Unyielding Command Cruiser moved forward, aggressively targeting the Rogue Sith fighters to clear them away from the Alliance craft. The Sentinel-class Cruiser itself joined in with its own batteries in attacking the Rogue Sith.

Round 7

The Grand Admiral was dead. Killed by [member="Kith Verloren"]. The Omega had destroyed the Spirit, but by luck and a little help from [member="Ayden Cater"] a large section of it managed to get revenge on its destroyer. Drifting slowly, yet unstoppably it crashed into the Omega, tearing into it and exposing a gaping hole in one flank.

But the Omega was already turning, rotating to face Castameer. There wasn’t much time before it would be ready to blast that planet….

The Dark Prince

Grand Admiral Chysa'sk narrowed her eyes at the betrayer. A sound of pure fury escaped from her mouth.
“You! You, swine Tregessar. Traitor! You will join me in hell, and by the Nether I will make you regret this betrayal!”
Her words were hollow and they both knew it.

The line went dead. An aide approached. “Ma’am, we can still depart. Enough of the fighters remain to…”
The Harch waved her to silence. “It is too late for that. Go, flee if you wish, you will perish just the same.”
As the guns blazed from the Contempt and the Triumph it seemed to the Grand Admiral that the vast ship just melted away. As the bridge shattered into fragments she never knew that ironically she had achieved her dream of being commander of the Sith fleet…just in time to die.

The Victor

Rear Admiral Arian Kanno watched as the second brightest flash of the battle; the death of the Dark Prince, faded.
“Admiral, your orders?” Captain Salazar asked, her breathing quick, uncertain.

The Admiral studied the displays. His Command had not been engaged yet, guarding the approaches to the Omega.
The map was dire. In the northern sector only the beleaguered Colossus now remained, engulfed in a tide of blue icons. In the centre where Admiral Chysa'sk had charged to her doom the fleet was being overcome. In the south, near to them the Mandalorians had advanced nearly to point blank range.
They were it.
The Victor and Justicar along with a collection of escorts were practically the only unengaged ships in the fleet. They were the reserve, entrusted to await the right moment.

A signal officer approached, saluted. “Orders from Admiral Sar'theron, sir. She is now in command of all forces. We are to move forward and engage the First Order, try to get onto their flank and come to the aid of Admiral Mir.”
“Prepare ships to move,” Salazar ordered.
Kanno breathed out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. “Belay that, Captain,” he said firmly.
“Sir?”
The bridge was watching them.
“All ships are to turn and disengage. We will reunite at Rendezvous Delta.”
“Sir? We’ve been given orders to advance! We can’t retreat!”
“Captain Salazar, you have your orders.”
“No, sir, I will not leave our comrades to their fate. We must go help…sir.”
The Admiral finally looked at her. “To what end, Captain? Look at the displays. Look at them! What do you see?” He didn’t let her answer. “You see Mandalorians, Imperials, Jedi, Corporations, all of them are united against us. We would have had a chance if they fought each other, and we could pick them off. That is not what happened. They have united as they have never done so before and possibly never will again. Look at the displays. Imperial Star Destroyers fight alongside Kendosii Battleships and Mon Calamari cruisers. We have been faced by the galaxy and we have lost, Captain. Look here, only the Colossus remains in that sector. The Dark Prince is in fragments. Our forces are being decimated by the Mandalorians. Tell me, Captain, what will happen if the Victor and Justicar go forward to the attack? The Imperial fleet is hurting, and we might well be able to pick off some of their ships, but we will go down. Can you really condemn the 100,000 crew on these vessels to death in a vain gesture?”
The Captain bowed her head. “But…the Omega….”
“Look at it. It reduced the largest ship in the galaxy to dust and has it stopped them? No, it has made them more determined. Besides, look, the Omega has turned away. We will get no more aid there. Now, Captain, I have no wish to charge to my death needlessly, but if any ship wishes to join the battle, you are bolder than I. Order the Command to disengage with that notice.”
“Yes, sir. What then?”
I would have considered turning to the First Order to discuss terms, but I have seen the Contempt on their battleline. There will be no mercy there from that worm Tregessar. We will see. Give the order, Captain, or shoot me, but the time has come to decide.”

Captain Salazar nodded to the signal officer. “All ships are to disengage and return to Rendezvous Delta. Ships which wish to say may do so.”

None did.

Event Account
Combat Summary For Each Writer:
[member="Zark"] your fire on the Colossus was almost ineffective except that of your command ship. At that range the defence and size of the Colossus is too much for your cruisers and frigates to hurt.

[member="Charzon Loulan"] your fire was ineffective against the escort, even at this range. Happily, your Udernik frigates easily blew up the Grinder. Your fire on Razer 8 was minimally effective. However the Hammerheads destroyed Razer 9.

[member="Reshmar"] your fire from your destroyers and cruisers was quite effective. However your escorts were too underpowered even at point blank range to damage the Ballista. Fortunately your attack craft swept in and there were no ACs to meet them.
I calculate 1 squadron of fighters and 1 of bombers were ‘suppressed’ by the flak of the Dark Blade. However that was still enough to unleash enough bombs to destroy the Ballista.

[member="Aerion Ivelisse"] since the Ballista was destroyed by Reshmar, redirected your fire to the Dictator in the same hex. Your ships moving to 05.10 were redirected to 06.09 because it was already occupied by Reshmar this turn.
Your Excubitors were a bit overkill on those unfortunate Celeres, so I switched the second ship to fire on another, so you killed Celeres 3 & 4.
The other fire inflicted heavy damage on the Dictator.
Return Fire – Fired 1 x Immortal at Shield at 05.12.

[member="Knight"] Your ship will be atomised but will not do much to affect the beam at all. Had to relocate your ships moving to 01.05 to 01.04 because it was already taken.
Your long range fire from the Risen was minimally effective.

[member="Gir Quee"] Your fire destroyed the Dictator which had already badly been damaged by Aerion.
Razer 9 had already been destroyed, so shifted your fire to Razer 8, which was destroyed. Indeed many of your shots were wasted due to overkill. Your fire on the Iridonia was effective in knocking down shields.
The 6 fighter squadrons swept in. Two were ‘suppressed’ by the flak, but they did some decent hull damage to the Iridonia regardless. How many losses you take is up to you.

[member="Carlyle Rausgeber"] your fire destroyed the Razer 3 from nearly point blank range. You inflicted heavy damage on the Agony with your Destroyer. Razer 4 suffered the same fate as Razer 3. Your fire on the Desire was good at stripping away the shields. Your fire on the Corellia was moderately effective at removing shields.
Return Fire – Fired 1 x Vanguard at FIV Survivor (07.15)

[member="Valessia Brentioch"] your fire was scattered between hexes in places so I narrowed it to whichever hex had targets. Your fire from Foxtrot and Charlie destroyed Razer 1 & 2. I directed Echo Line onto the Desire which they were just able to destroy after Carlyle had softened it up.
Return Fire – Fired 1 x Invidia at FIV Chevalier (08.15) to finish it off.

[member="Verz Horak"] I have made as much sense as I can of the fighters for the combined Mandalorian fleets. Hope it tallies with your expectations.
Your fire on the Leviathan was effective at knocking down much of its shields. The unfortunate Corsair 6 was blown apart by the savage volley. The Covet, already damaged, was destroyed by the combined volleys.
The fire on the Deify was able to remove quite a few shields. Similarly the Warmonger lost almost all its shields.
No orders seemed to be given for the attack craft, so they can make a last run next time if desired.
Return Fire – Fired 1 x Boneshatter, 1 x Vanguard & 2 x Maladi at ‘Adenn’ (03.21)
Fired Leviathan at ‘Gett’se’ (03.23)
Fired 3 x Fenris at Be'tra Morut (04.22)
Fired 1 x Wyyrlok & 1 x Exalt at Be'vod Runi be'te Naast (04.22)

[member="Tanomas Graf"] I redirected all the fire from the 57th Cruiser Line to the Slaughter as that was closer and you can’t divide fire across hexes.
The Slaughter was severely damaged by the fire, the Tyrant lost heavily from its shields.
Return Fire – Fired 2 x Dark Blades & 1 x Wyyrlok at Abdicator (08.18).

[member="Natasi Fortan"] Your fire on the destroyers was moderately effective. The Slaughter was destroyed by your fire. The Tython sustained heavy shield damage.

[member="Cyrus Tregessar"] Your fire on the Dark Prince inflicted serious damage. Likewise against the Centurion. Your ramming of the Centurion, combined with the punishment already given, destroyed it. The two Inflictors perished in the attack.
Your attack by the Boneshatters on the Fenris distributed a lot of shield damage.
Your fighters killed off 12 squadrons of Rogue Sith fighters. They attacked the Flense and did some damage, but without bombers it’s less than would be wanted.
The skirmishing between Corsairs did some moderate damage but no kills.
Return Fire – Unleashed Station Command’s attack craft on your escorts in 03.14. Total of 21 Fighter and 4 Bomber squadrons committed.
Fired Imperator at Boneshatters at 03.14 (Wrack, Ruin, etc).
Fired 3 x Razer at Wrack (03.14)
Fired 5 x Razer & 3 x Fenris at Corsairs in 07.13
Fired 1 x Wyyrlok & 1 x Exalt at Contempt (10.13)
Fired 2 x Celeres & 5 x Corsair at Corsairs in 07.13

[member="William Kerkov"] The Dark Prince was destroyed by your ships.
Return Fire – Fired 2 x Maladi at FIV Crusher (05.17). Fired at FIV Eliminator (05.17) with 1 x Torment.

[member="Roderik von Brinkerhoff"] Your fighter horde finished off my surviving fighter and bomber squadrons. I was working on only 4-5 squadron casualties on your side, though adjust as you wish.
The Desolator, already badly damaged, was bombed and destroyed. There were no surviving ships in that hex.

@All First Order Writers
I had to reroute a lot of ships due to gridlock. They are:
  • Cyrus – From 04.13 to 03.14. From 09.14 to 09.13.
  • Natasi – From 09.17 to 09.18. From 07.17 to 08.16.
  • Kerkov, could not move your flagship or destroyers. Forced move from 07.16 to 05.17.

[member="Astarii Saren"] Your move to 03.10 was diverted to 04.10 as it was already occupied.
Your fire on the Colossus took down much of its shields. Since the Dictator and Ballista was already destroyed, redirected your fire to the Fornax which was destroyed. Likewise the Grinder was already wrecked so you had no targets left in 03.11.

[member="Ayden Cater"] your fire from the Noble Class reduced the Colossus to exactly 0 shields. Amazing. Since all targets were destroyed in 03.11 there were no targets to redirect to.
The piece of the Spirit will impact in the DM thread, and open a breach for fighters to enter when the time comes.
Your attack craft are still engaged. A further 6 fighter and 2 bomber squadrons from the Rogue Sith were lost. There were no targets nearby.
Return Fire – Fired Hyaat Station at Noble Class ships in 01.11.
Fired Maladi at point blank range into Noble Class ships at 01.11.

@All, on the northern flank all hexes are empty apart from the Colossus and Iridonia at 02.12.
Fixed up the map positions in the centre for ease of reading…and targeting.

If there’s any mistakes or if I missed something I do apologise. Let me know and I’ll fix it next round. Does anyone read this?

Ayden and Kerkov’s posts included by arrangement.

[media]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbDRGQzbWDE[/media]
"We lost the Chevalier!" A lieutenant shouted, and the Commodore knew they would lose her and they could lose the bulk of Echo line before it was all said and done. She would give no quarter, she would give no room to these cowardly Sith. "Commodore! They're in retreat! The Alliance swarms them on the right!"

There was a decision to be made, one that would reflect on Commodore Aileen Grant's career for decades to come. She looked on the viewscreen and back to her holocharts. She could see the fleet, she could see how much they were in need of fleeing, she could see how they were bleeding. Profusely so, and perhaps a better, and nobler commander would have issued the order. Perhaps a better more honorable officer could have given the word. "Move us to one fourteen, and foxtrot to two fifteen, advance echo to seven fourteen plug in the gap and give word to the others, we're advancing."

The First Order was going to finish this fight, they were going to die doing so. Theirs not to make reply, theirs not to reason why, theirs is to do and die. Into the valley of Death rode the six admirals. Flash'd all their daggers bare, flash'd as they turn'd among the stars, daggers into the fighters. Charging the renegade navy, while all the galaxy wondered.
How much more would they lose? How many more would die so that the Galaxy might know peace and security? Oh, those that charged into the fray, those who wore the black and the gray. Did they know what would happen on this day? Bolted and thundered, volleyed and sundered they knew of the Sith's might. And so in their last hours, in their finest hours - when the opportunity to run was presented, those who wore the black and the gray. Fled not, but bled they did - they bled for all to see. They bled not for the Alliance, not for the Mandalorians but for one another - they bled for the fraternity of the First Order. They bled for the Supreme Leader and they bled for their Grand Moff. Immortals to the right of them, Immortals to the left of them, Immortals in front of them. Volley'd and thuder'd, storm'd at with missile and bolt. Boldly they rode and well, into the jaws of Death, into the mouth of Hell. Drove the six admirals, of the gray and black. Drove the six admirals of the First Imperial Order.

Fleet advancement, continue firing on the Renegade Sith

3rd Attack Wing - combined attack craft @03.11 moving to 02.12 Targeting: Colossus @ 02.12
11 Fighters

7 Bombers
4 Pickets
2 Assault Ships

Reshmar watched as ship after ship fell before the massed fleets. The mighty destroyers of the Sith now burn and list lifeless as there last death throws signaled the end for the Sith. In the distance, the construct still remained but soon the combined might of the galaxy would fall upon it. The Ballista took the brunt of the barrage from the 3rd rippling its shielding them dropping it as the assault craft of the 3rd wing let loose a volley of warheads into her exposed hull. Her life ended in the span of a few moments and her crew now gone as her hull crumbled under the guns of the 3rd.

"Helm slow our forward progress and lets work on finishing off these Sith vessels" said Reshmar watching the ships in the distance

"Tactical, target that last destroyer" said Reshmar as he highlighted the tag which read Colossus on the tactical display. Together the ships of the 3rd moved into position and let loose a torrent of fire which lashed out at the Immortal-class vessel. the energy torpedoes struck at her hull first followed by the turbolaser and ion cannons of the combined three destroyers and three heavy cruisers. Flashes of light ingited as oxygen plumes expleded fire from impact holes along her hull.

"Do not let up till she cracks" ordered Reshmar as he watched volley after volley of energy strike out at the Colossus. a moment later the fighters and bombers of the 3rd wing swooped in on the ship to aid the alliance attack craft in bringing an end to the beast.

'"Captain, once we have delt with this destroyer plot a solution on the weapon itself. Move us in and use the hulk of the Spirit as cover for our fire support cruisers. Have our Ewar equiped ships blind it and let's see if we can stay out of its line of fire long enough to disable that weapon." said Reshmar as he set his sights on the massive form of the Omega super weapon.

"Shooting a heavy long-range hypervelocity cannon at a light frigate was a bad idea... we missed it!" the hypervelocity cannon crew chief told Julie.

"The First Order has destroyed the enemy flagship!" the communications officer commented.

"All units, move in as close to the Omega as you can and engage the Rogue Sith at point-blank range! Squadron Cresh, Corvette Screen, fire at the Iridonia, everyone else fire at the Escalade!"

"Roger" the commander of Squadron Besh acknowledged.

"At that close range we won't last long against the Omega! Not even my own piloting skill would be able to help here!"

At best Julie would be able to do triage of damage; when one is piloting a Star Destroyer, it becomes mostly a question of making a choice of which shots to avoid vs. which shots to take. At worst Squadrons Besh and Cresh will sneak past the enemy fleets, leaving the flagship vulnerable. But clearly Julie's art of triage was a little lacking early in the battle: the opening moves forced the Mateus to take such heavy damage that it initially forced her to retreat. Here the enemy focused on the dark-siders they called the First Order who, for the time being, must be regarded as friendlies. Nevertheless for the time being, the lack of enemy heavy units firing at them will provide some breathing room for Julie et al. Charzon makes an attempt to sneak past the enemy fleets and the First Order to fire right back at them, upon seeing the Colossus being heavily damaged, perhaps even outright destroyed, the enemy's port flank is obliterated. Only the Mandos' inaction prevented the starboard flank from suffering a similar fate, especially since the enemy concentrated all their remaining units to the center, where the First Order fleets are much better-coordinated than theirs. Perhaps Charzon's idea worked after all, but they may not get so lucky next time. If there was one. But would the combined fire of the Mateus and of Squadron Besh at middling range suffice to take out the Escalade?

"The enemy has deserted; shall we give them chase?" Corvette Screen's commander asked over comms.

"No, let them run. We have bigger fish to fry. Our main enemy is effectively surrounded"

"Finally, a chance at destroying some capital ship! Maintain best forward speed! Maximum firepower!"

TF17 still has a tactical role this late in the battle, where it is virtually all but a joint victory. At the onset, Charzon was the Republican "forlorn hope", but now she has shown she can still be of use by sneaking ships past the enemy lines. Hopefully the First Order won't notice that the light-siders have made it this deep behind enemy lines and concentrate on the Rogue Sith; the enemy station will probably train its weapons at one of the Darr Itahs rather than at one of the ships Charzon is attempting to sneak past the enemy lines. Or one of the friendlies that is also attempting to sneak past them. Although Charzon was a rather fresh commander, whose only command in battle has been on Korriban prior, where she had the fighter screen deployed to protect their ground reinforcements, she was still a rather zealot woman. Because of that mission on Korriban she was known as the Butcher of Korriban.

"May the Force be with us all, we were the forlorn hope of the Republic, make this forlorn hope count!"

"Speaking of forlorn hope, admiral, this will be your final mission: you are to return to Voss after this mission ends"

"Forward men, forward!" Margs snarled at the crew, "Get us closer to those ships, and open fire on the Agony!" he growled.

"Yes sir!" The Gunnery Officer replied with a salute. The Defiant began to close in on her prey, opening fire on the ship, and watching it fall under a barrage of heavy turbolaser fire.

"Lie-captain," Comms called out, "Conquest Line has just come under attack, what are they to do?"

"Pursue the attacker, have the remainder of Victory Line move in for support, I want that ship suppressed." Margs growled.

First Imperial Shuttle Steed docked in the remains of the Vindicator's garbage disposal bay. The disposal bay had been exposed, when the durasteel opening hatch flew off when the star destroyers hypermatter reactor detonated. From out of the shuttle, several stormtrooper field medics walked down the docking ramp, into the poodoo caked cavern.

"Valkyrie one, this is Steed, we've deployed in the Vindicator's garbage chute, searching for survivors." One of the medics said, before turning to the others, "Alright team, we have one job, and one job only. To search for survivors, and get them out, we clear?"

"Sir yessir!" The other stormtroopers replied in unison. Armed with advanced scanners, the squad fanned out, into the wreckage of the star destroyer. Other shuttles buzzed around, moving to some of the other hangars, and clearing away air pockets filled with lucky survivors. However, it became obvious that they were few and far between. At least a third of the Vindicator's crew had suffocated to death or been trampled in the rush to escape the stricken vessel. The Steed's medical team made a sweep of the bridge's super structure, finding nothing of value.

"Wait, sir, I have a reading on the command deck," One of the junior medics called on the teams comms, "It's faint but there!" the trooper called.

"Alright," The units commander called over comms, "Regroup at the bridge, I've got nothing else, this may be our best shot. Steed, undock, and move to the bridge, we'll get to a maintainence hatch."

"Will do, moving out." The shuttles pilot acknowledged.

Carlyle laid himself down against the consoles that skirted the viewport. He could hear the low hum as the redundancy generators going out. The captains breaths became short and hoarse as he felt the atmosphere becoming thing. Carlyle collapsed, not enough oxygen was getting to his brain. The last thing he saw before passing out was a red hot glow of something burning through the door.

"Bridge breached, we are in." The medic captain called, "And, we, we have him!" The captain called, running through the mess of shattered deck plates to the captain. He immediately began looking over his body. "Air tank, we need an oxygen tank here now private!"

The private followed close behind, and carrying a respiratory pack. When close enough, his superior snatched it off the private, and attatched it to Carlyle's mouth, and nose. Carlyle's eyes slowly opened, and he looked at the troopers with a look of surprise.

"It's alright sir, it's alright." The medic officer replied, before looking at his rank badge. "Valkyrie One, relay this message, Captain Rausgeber is saved, I repeat, Rausgeber is saved. Awaiting extraction."

Shock had turned to numbness; the color seemed to have faded from Natasi and from the world she viewed. She had turned back to the command table to find the spot where Pierce's TIE fighter was empty, a grey X for confirmed destruction. The weight of the loss was exhausting; she wanted nothing more than to return to her quarters, pour herself a gin and tonic and go to bed. But though the battle was won -- more or less -- it was not yet finished. She had to remain on station and see this through. Besides, she needed to be there -- to be awake and alert when [member="Roderik von Brinkerhoff"] returned with news of Pierce -- or his body. She glanced to the side, willing herself to remain calm and collected. She couldn't let the officers on the deck see her emotionally distressed or, Balance forbid, cry. It would ruin her image.

Her reverie was interrupted by an excited shout from the gunnery coordinator. "Ma'am, the Slaughter -- it's about to blow!"

Natasi left the command station, rushing forward to the bridge viewports. She needed to see, needed to watch it happen with her own eyes rather than in facsimile on the command table, and she arrived at the viewports just in time to see the Slaughter enter its death throes. The look on her face was not the celebratory glee of the others on the bridge, but there was a grim determination to it. She had ordered its death; she wasn't happy about it, but the point of war wasn't to die for your country, but to make the other sons of bitches die for theirs. Her jaw set into a determined angle and she inclined her head. "Get me a status report on Colonel von Brinkerhoff and find out where we are with Yvarro and Rausgeber, and the survivors from those battlegroups," Natasi ordered, folding her arms behind her back as she watched the battle unfolding around her. The Slaughter was venting atmosphere into the void, with bodies, computers, and other furniture before the reactor went, enveloping the entire frame of the Slaughter in a white-hot explosion. The ship blew apart, shards of the hull spiraling out of control "Send our Daggers on -- no need to risk them now with the enemy routed."

Another cheer went up as many elements of the Rogue Sith fleet began to disengage and move away, apparently deserting the battle. They had won, more or less, and the atmosphere on the bridge was just this side of respectfully restrained in their jubilant revelry, in observance of the likely death of Captain Fortan. Still, credit where it was due: "Admiral [member="Tanomas Graf"] did some of that heavy lifting. Remind me to send him a case of his favorite drink beverage when this is all over, with my compliments."

The Grand Moff wished that she could enjoy the pleasure of a battle won, but there was still the question of Pierce, who was missing in action. She returned to her command station and tapped her fingers against the edge of the table, leaning over the table as her eyes traced the strategic map where von Brinkerhoff was represented by a small green TIE-shaped icon. She prayed for his safe return, and that of her cousin. "Ma'am, shall we get back to Dosuun?" asked one of her advisers. Natasi shook her head no and murmured, "We can still do some damage here. Get me firing solutions on these ships." She indicated the ships in question. "See if the Daggers can score some shots on their way out -- here, here, and here, if we need to redirect." The Grand Moff studied the map, her dark eyes reflecting the strategy map in miniature.

"Ma'am, here are your solutions." The lines of fire appeared on the screen with the proposed motions.

She studied the lines for a moment, then looked up to the coordinator. "Do it."

Bridge
Dha Weda Verda

The Rogue Sith were fighting back hard now. They had no retreat, and the Mandalorians were pressing hard. Tactical officers called out, reporting on the state of the battle. Battlegroup commanders reported in, Mando'a voices filling the bridge.

"Requesting fire support, the Gett'se is taking heavy fire!"

"Wolfpack 1 reporting successful fire, preparing another volley."

"Wolfpack 2, firing for effect."

Verz's voice rang out across Mandalorian command channels.

"Push onwards! Clan Dem'das has our back, and we shall break this fleet, then the Omega! Our children will sing songs of this battle one day! Oya, ner vode! Oya!"

The Mandalorian fleet was closing on their objective. Soon the Omega would be within striking range, and the Rouge Sith fleet would not stand in their way long. Verz, who had now long been tempered by his experience in command, knew not to underestimate the enemy at this point. The Rogue Sith may be beaten and bloodied, but they were not defeated yet. A rat is most dangerous when cornered and wounded.

"The Advanced Line is moving into the Rogue Sith gap!"

"Two Corvettes down!"

"Follow after them!"

"One of the remaining Immortals are firing heavily on the Advanced Line!"

All Jax Hastings could do was watch as the tactical board readout gave more detail as to what the officer at the sensor array was telling him. In such close proximity to the Immortal, the they were met with the full force of all of their weaponry. Long-Range turbolaser cannons, ion cannons, even heavy energy torpedoes. All of those were pummelling the Shield's shields and hull. The Immortal was meant to tear apart ships that were within its firing arc.

The Fourteenth Fleet had been relatively unscathed throughout the entirety of the battle. Others had gotten into positions first, were better equipped for the battle. The Fourteenth had gotten close in the shadows of their allies and neutral forces, and they just entered slaughterhouse, that being, the Immortal's firing arc. Needless to say, the Shield's captain had brought the forward shields to maximum, draining power from non-essential systems as they went head first for the Immortal. Within a minute the shields had collapsed and its hull was being scrapped. Captain Jax saw it all from the tactical readout beside him.

The ship was already lost, but the Immortal was nearly destroyed. Firing would be a waste.

"Helmsman. Get us out of here. Once we get in range, get those tractor beams on as much of the Shield as possible. Nothing is getting left behind," even if there were chunks flying around, they were going to pick it up. If only so that the worthless scavengers that came long after the battle was over had one less thing to scuttle.

The entire bridge of the Abdicator erupted in cheers as the flagship of the Rogue Sith armada, the Dark Prince, fell ever so ironically to her sister ships, the Contempt and the Triumph, led by the Grandest of Admirals that Graf had ever had the pleasure of serving with in the Navy. The bright light that radiated where the Prince was once positioned at was enough to make Graf shield his eyes with his arm while it faded, leaving a large debris in its wake, the massive gap in morale created by its destruction was evident even then when some ships in the Sith fleet began to turn tail.

A second explosion took up most of the viewports. The Wyyrlok-class Star Destroyer Slaughter had fallen to the combined firepower of Death Squadron and the Grand Moff's fleet, Tanomas was about to grin until red turbolasers suddenly sailed past the bridge. Com-Scan reported that two Dark Blade dreadnoughts had opened fire in retaliation for their role in the destruction of the destroyer, with their powerful turbolaser blasts being absorbed by the shields but rocking the ship nonetheless. Graf actually wanted to laugh "Finally! A real challenge!" He bellowed much to the dismay of his bridge crew.

"Stabilize the squadrons deflector shields! I want our two destroyers to engage the cruiser closest to us, while the rest engages the other of the pair!" The admiral ordered, turbolasers returned fire and lasers zoomed towards the general direction of the two cruisers. "Admiral! Scanners indicate that the Alliance fleet is making a break for the Omega!" One of his lieutenants reported, Graf felt all color drain from his face. If the Galactic Alliance secured the weapon while the Order was preoccupied with the Sith Armada, then that would spell certain doom for their enemies...and tense allies...

Graf's attention was drawn back to the constantly updating tactical map in the middle of the bridge, fast specks were rushing across the battlefield, apparently the rest of the Order's fleet had also noticed this bold move, and were sending their fastest ships to get to it to destroy it before anyone else could "Follow suit with the rest of the fleet and get our Daggers to the Omega, this weapon shall not fall into the wrong hands." He barked at the comm operator. He turned back towards the tactical map and began devising a strategy to quickly destroy these two dreadnoughts so they could get to the Omega

A brilliant idea filtered into his head, it was common, but it'll do for the time being. He turned to face his bridge and loudly announced "Have the VSDs and the Carracks move in an initiate broadsides of the enemy dreadnoughts, it'll draw fire away from the Abdicator and allow us a clean shot at their damaged side once it is over!". It was fool proof, their cruisers might take damage if the dreadnoughts were focused enough to return fire, but overall it was nothing in the grand scheme of the battle.

It was time to end this.
