[Enemies] Pirates

The Reprisal was continuing its turbolaser onslaught against the contraband convoy as a pirate frigate suddenly exploded in a fireball of debris and hypermatter. Captain Graf smirked as this happened, the Reprisal hadn't taken a scratch while the pirates were already losing one of their own, "Launch Alpha squadron, I want the fighters to take out what we can't while we mop up the frigates. Also, get a tractor beam lock on those freighters, pull them in as soon as you can and dispatch a squad or two to clear out any resistance within them, tell them to set for stun." Graf ordered, not taking his eyes away from the viewport.

A minute later, five TIE/FO starfighters launched out of the dorsal hangar bay. They flew around expertly, dodging the turbolasers of the enemy frigates while draining their shields with their laser fire, the point defense lasers on the frigates would be an issue but the fighters were piloted by the best and only the best. A crewman announced from one of the pits that they got a tractor beam on a freighter, said freighter slowly pulled away from its convoy and was pulled into the gaping maw of the star destroyer.

Explosions engulfed the area as another one of the frigates was destroyed by the combined strength of the destroyer and fighters. Meanwhile, the Reprisal got another lock on a freighter as it too was pulled into a hangar bay to be cleaned out by the squad of naval marines. Graf ordered the crew to concentrate fire on the turbolasers of the frigates, then to send the AALs over to board the frigates and take them over, after all it would be wise to widen the fleet of the Order or scrap the frigates for much need metal.

The multiple small explosions signaled the destruction of some of the turbolasers on the frigates as the AALs flew out of their respective hangars and towards the frigates, guarded by the squadron of TIEs already launched. The other freighters began heading towards the Reprisal as they too were trapped in the tractor beams of the destroyer, though they would not be able to fit inside of the hangar, instead they were going to need to be boarded by the AALs when they came back.

Fifteen minutes later the AALs finished their boarding actions on the frigates and moved to the freighters, skeleton crews were sent over to take the ships to the Dosuun shipyards, while contraband was moved into the secure confines of the star destroyer and the freighter inhabitants imprisoned in the brig to be interrogated later. All in all it was a successful operation for the Reprisal, the destroyer ejected the freighters out into space for another ship to come tow they to Dosuun as it headed towards Vassek to assist in the ground operation and space if needed.

Captain Meneer Chrome
Post=8+6/20

When Meneer got to the house, an anonymous-looking permacrete cube on the outskirts of a small industrial zone, he could see the speeders parked behind dense bushes. They were pretty easy to pick out with his helmet optics; he could even see the fading heat of the drives as a dim splash of amber in his infrared filter. He wondered if the rebels had night-vision goggles or other fancy kit, because if they did, the squad had already lost the element of surprise.

He assumed the worst. The house was in darkness, and it was too early in the evening for the rebels to be asleep. “What’s the layout of the building? Is it the same as the data I was sent?”

“From what we know-central staircase, four rooms upstairs, three on the ground, front and back doors.” The staff-sergeant drew an imaginary rectangle in the air, miming the long narrow shape of the windows. “And eight windows, although they’d have a tough job exiting through those.”

“Alive,” Meneer said, motioning the squad forward with a gesture. “We need them alive, so even if they open fire, just duck. Now, let’s all stay on the same comm channel, shall we?”

With main command & control facility in chaos Colrenth began to move toward his extraction and the and the shuttle waiting there from him, his next target, was an orbital control station, which houses targeting computers for orbital defense platforms. He was to slice into to these computers and turn the platform on the Vassek military forces in orbit. After making to the captured civilian shuttle and setting course for the station, he took a few moments to review his plan.

I'm a very patient individual, but when the heat of battle burns through my veins it overrides my patient mind; sending me into a fighting frenzy. I'm young and one day when I reach my full mature nature, I would learn to control this unsettling habit that I manage to see as a flaw. But for now, my impatient nature rules the day.

Not wanting to be caught in a situation that I cannot control, like being surrounded and forced to fight on the droid's terms, I charged toward the turbolift, ignoring it for now, and ducked off to my left heading up the stairwell. Fighting in a stairwell may not be the most achievable way to succeed but it was far better than being trapped in a turbolift with it's small coffin-sized dimensions. Bursting through a door on the third level, I came out ready to fight.

And so where the countless little droids.

I was sorely outnumbered, and with only a few remaining pulse grenades left at my disposal, this was a fight that I couldn't possible win if I charged headlong into them. With Force aided reflexes even, I would be more than hard pressed to win and add to the fact that I'm still growing into the Force, this would be a recipe for disaster for me.

One thing working in my favor, or rather two things I should mention, is that the hallway was extremely long putting me at one end and the skittering droids at the far opposite side. The other advantage, if it was a real advantage, was the hallway housed many side rooms. I noticed from the onset the state of the building, and I was taking a serious risk thinking that most of the adjoining walls inside the rooms were absent or barley showing crumbling remains of their existence. But it was me against the droid armada so I had to take the risk.

Standing my ground, and the last of the pulse grenades in my hand, I watched with calculating eyes as the droids hustled down the hallway, looking to carve me up all nasty like. Satisfied enough that they were in range, I threw the grenades in a fashion where some landed in front of the droids and some in the middle of the pack. The grenades wouldn't knock all them out, but it would do enough of the job for me to fight the remaining ones through room hopping tactics.

Greifen's resonant yellow eyes turned to his Apprentice, surveying the young man for a moment as if the two Ren were coming to a silent consensus, and then turned back to Dissero.

"That will please us very much, Lord Dissero," Greifen finally said in a dark tone. "And we will likewise extend you the same courtesy."

That was all that was to be said, then. Greifen Ren preferred not to delay this meeting any further, and he was pleased that it had come to a reasonable conclusion. Although he would have liked to have elicited just a bit more enthusiasm for the cause from Dissero. The man was powerful, to be sure, and not very old - though it seemed like he acted like he his eyes had witnessed many lifetimes. Lifetimes of experience which had made him thin, brittle, and worse, ambivalent. This was a man who had lost his warrior spirit, Greifen thought. He hoped that neither he, nor his Apprentice Kriel, would succumb to such nihilism. This would be a good lesson for the young Ren by his side once they were done here.

"We are finished, then," Greifen confirmed with a nod. "I wish to take up no more of your time today, Lord Dissero, and so my Apprentice and I will take our leave of your home."

"I'll show you to the door."

It was a short walk back to the massive entrance gate of the castle proper. Shorter, Dissero noted, now that the two Knights of Ren had little of interest to slow their steps. He suspected that the Master of the pair was mildly disappointed in what he found and, for all intents and purposes, that was exactly what he meant for the man. Far be it from he to make a grand show of power only to place a target on himself, the castle, and all the other occupants. It was really the last thing he wanted and if putting on a display of mediocrity and nihilism was what got him peace of mind, why - he'd offer them waffles just to seal the coffin.

"Oh, and one more thing," said the Castle owner as he entered the key code to let the men out through the access door of the main gate, "if the Order has reason to footle about the landscape of this moon, I would advise calling ahead so that I can make sure my guard dog isn't out and about. He dislikes unannounced guests in the worst way and I'd hate for anyone to get singed on account of failure to communicate, hm?"

The two black-clad Ren followed Dissero back to the foyer of his castle, and then to the door from whence they came. Even though his apprentice had yet to speak for the duration of the meeting, Greifen thought that Kriel had likely learned much today. He would have a discussion with him about this Lord Dissero as soon as they were safely back on board their vessel. For now, Greifen Ren turned to Dissero, and from behind the confines of his cloak's black cowl, smiled.

"I assure you, the First Order will have little reason to meddle upon this moon," He said, "But I appreciate the warning nonetheless. I shall pass the word on to my superiors."

Once again the massive doors to Dissero's lavish castle opened, allowing Greifen to step through them once again. He had seen the monolithic structure's vast atrium and library while he was inside, but he suspected that he had barely seen even a tenth of what the massive former palace of General Grievous had to offer inside. One last time, he turned back to Dissero.

"The First Order thanks you for your hospitality. May we meet again under the same such favorable circumstances, Lord Dissero."

And with that, he turned and began to leave, with his apprentice presumably in tow.

A large grey dropship circled the air and moved to the front lines, looming low on the action. It's underside hatch opened and jettisoned a one-man walker piloted by General Ludolf Vaas. Some generals preferred the comfort of their control rooms and battlefield stations, but General Vaas preferred to lead from the front.

His walker's legs speared into the ground as he landed, kicking up soft soil to announce his presence. Inside, the General zeroed his targeting systems on the force of rebels being lead by an unknown entity straight ahead.

"This is General Vaas. I have arrived," He announced over the comlink, which anyone who was tuned to the First Order's frequency would be able to hear.

He was late to this fight, but despite not being here for the start of hostilities, he was determined to be the end of them. Now... where was that air support he had ordered?

It was all very agreeable - perhaps too much so. Pleasantries were exchanged, drinks were offered, served and drunk and a polite if slightly tense conversation had ensued. Sure there was an undercurrent throughout but given what was at stake, Kriel couldn't help but feel he was missing something. Did the owner of this castle give up too easily, or did he simply realise the enormity of the task of taking on an entire government. Or, perhaps, was he the winner? Had he remained in control of his castle and revealed nothing of his own hand.

Kriel decided he would not play Sabaac with this man. Not without doing his homework first. As he followed loyally behind his Master, he bowed as a way of saying goodbye and walked out, half a step behind Knight Greifen Ren. Once they were outside, Kriel remained silent and awaited his Master's view on the meeting before sharing his own thoughts.

As first order air support was coming in again, her howlers began firing ion rounds into the air. Reapers tried knocking them out of the sky, as they came into to do strafing runs at her men. This was it time to call the general retreat, all her infantry would go first she have to get the howlers spiked so they could be used by the first order. She then thought about it, she would have to do same with the reapers as well. As they began to fall back, they hoped to be on the ships before the next wave arrived. Things were tight but the refugees had been removed, know it was just case getting her own behind of the planet.

With his apprentice behind him, Greifen crossed the misty expanse of the castle's front yard before arriving back at the transport they had used to arrive. The pilots were there still, dutifully awaiting the return of the two Ren. Hoisting himself into the transport, Greifen took his seat opposite Kriel and gave a thud with his fist on the transparisteel window behind him, signaling for the pilots to take off. As the engines were being primed, Greifen smoothed out his black, battle-worn robes.

"What are your thoughts on Lord Dissero, my Apprentice?" He looked up and finally posed to Kriel as the ship's hatch doors closed with a hydraulic hiss. It was the first time he had engaged the young Disciple in conversation since they had landed, and Kriel had been dutifully silent for some time.

Kriel walked at his Master’s shoulder, half a pace behind him. As they crossed the courtyard and walked towards their transport, his Master was silent and so Kriel followed suit. They boarded the ship and sat down before the Knight signalled they should depart. Still no words were exchanged,

And finally as the engines roared into life, Greifen spoke. It was as he suspected, his Master was going to ask his opinion before sharing his own thoughts. Kriel did not see it as a test, but an opportunity to learn, so he spoke frankly.

“I don’t trust him, but on the other hand, I suspect he’ll keep out of our business and if nothing else, he is an early warning system in case of trouble here on the moon. I suspected more in the way of confrontation, but reflecting on the conversation now, I can see how it ended so amicably. If we take the veiled threats out of the equation, we got what we wanted, he remains in situ, so a win-win outcome I’d say.”

The assault shuttle flight crew forced the throttles to full military power as the vessel reached the initial point of their insertion profile. Once the vessel had accelerated just past its maximum cornering velocity, the pilots pulled back on the controls and sent the vessel rocketing skyward. Almost immediately, the velocity began to taper off and hovered right around the vessel's maximum cornering velocity. Wasting no time, they immediately rolled the vessel onto its back and began pulling the nose back down towards the horizon. At the zenith of the maneuver, the vessel was perhaps a couple thousand meters above the ground.

Largely invisible to the naked eye, a lone figure jumped into the turbulent slipstream riding past the fuselage of the spacecraft. Before the shuttle could plummet into the ground, the flight crew rolled the vessel upright and immediately idled the sublight drive. The maneuver was designed to draw an anti-air defenses completely out of position and present enough time for the vessel to insert the Master of Ren relatively covertly - by doing so in plain sight. Granted, Ciardha Ren had already manipulated the weather over the target area to obscure visibility enough to make it almost impossible to see the vessel anyways.

Landing softly on the ground just outside of Elaine's base of operations, the Sith Lord fixed his silver-green gaze on the outer perimeter. Inhaling deeply, he took off at a sprint before leaping high into the air with the aid of the Force. The moment his gaze could see inside the base, his figure disappeared from view in a brilliant flash of dark light.

Had he been wearing a communications headset, he might have been able to advise the General as to his intentions.

Almost as quickly as his physical presence had disappeared, he reappeared suddenly in the heart of the enemy camp in the wake of yet another bright flash of light. Silver-green eyes focused for the presence he had sensed, largely ignoring the anti-air defenses that posed little more than a moderate nuisance. If they so desired, this entire grid could have been simply wiped off the map. However, the military leadership preferred to be able to salvage whatever they found on Vassek for the purposes of intelligence gathering.

It took only moments for Cameron's hooded gaze to fall on [member="Elaine Thul"]. He did not recognize her, but he did not care either. Withdrawing his Sith Sword by the worn leather hilt, Cameron held the weapon innocently at his side as tendrils of raw dark side power cascaded down the length of the crimson blade briefly.

"High Command only asked us to secure a pact of non-belligerence with Dissero," Greifen said, folding his arms comfortably on his chest. "So you are correct. We have done what we set out to do."

He believed his Disciple had observed correctly; Dissero would likely not pose any problems to the First Order. If he was left to his own devices on this moon, it was quite likely that they would never see or hear from Dissero again. The man seemed quite content with his own business. Realizing that Kriel had given a more straightforward assessment, Greifen probed further in the discussion.

"My question was more along the lines of your impression of him as a man, my Disciple," He continued, locking eyes with Kriel. "I want you to remember this man, Lord Dissero, and remember him well. I ask you, Kriel, what is worse? A weakling who climbs to the top of a hierarchy through deceitful means, or the strong man who shirks his responsibility that nature bestowed?"

The first small wave of survivors entered the room I recently ducked into, coming inside in a single-file line, which gave me the opportunity to strike down the first six with ease. After that, they began to swarm more quickly forcing me to retreat through a medium size hole in the room and entering another one. The size of the hole was big enough for the droids to clamber through, but lucky for me it was far to high for them to reach.

I ducked out that room, sweeping my blade from side to side destroying droids as I crossed the hallway into another room, where once again I used the same tactics before, but with far greater results. Droids that are not wholly designed for battle usually lack the droid component that allows them to process battle scenarios and act accordingly. Still, they still were winning the numbers battle despite me dealing them a few crippling blows.

I ran toward the far side of the room, then slide sideways through a hole in the lower half of the room. Unlike the previous room I recently departed, this was short enough for the droids to access, but only in pairs rather than in a swarm. I noticed something about the droids, they didn't possess the ability to release blaster bolts which served as a plus for me, which meant I could use my Force energy to attack them rather than relying on it to enhance my reflexes to deflect shots. On the down side, it did rob me of the chance to redirect some shots at the droids. Which in hindsight, I wasn't all that versed in doing so yet.

One room after another I moved through them, slowly dwindling the number of attacking droids. However, the final room I entered had no hole or anything for me to retreat through. I basically trapped myself, but after the last attack by me, I bought myself more time than I really needed. I quickly looked down at the floor, a thought coming into my mind. I drove my blade into the floor and in a flash of brilliance I cut a perfect circle around me, then braced myself for the fall below.

The floor below me wasn't much of a fall, so I was able to land on my booted feet, poised and ready to cut down the droids as they followed me through. Which they did. One by one I cut them to shreds until they were no more. I took several deep breaths to gather myself when I noticed that I was in some sort of treasure room. Artifacts of all kinds rested in several places, most guarded by layers upon layers of dust. I ignored them all except for the little box in the back, which was now being guarded by that pesky Force ghost of a Jedi.

"And we meet again," I announced whilst walking toward him and his guarded possession.

"I can't do this WEC. Sitting in this makeshift hospital. Im heading out." WEC stares in disbelief, "Your going to get yourself killed!" I respond, "I can't just sit here while the enemy is killing out brethren. Either I'm heading out with you, or not." He takes a few minutes to let it sit in, "You know we're going to get into trouble right. Sigh.... Fine." I jump out of the bet and crab some crutches. We make it to find a TIEfo fighter parked in front of the building. "Worth a shot right? I call pilot." We jump in, WEC grabbing the gunner's seat. "HEY! THATS MY TIE FIGHTER!" The fighter takes off soaring through the air with that familiar screech. "We got enemies to the left." BOOM! Ion shells fly through the air. "WEC!" "On it." The shells whiz past, barely missing. BOOM BOOM BOOM! A howler is down, but there is more left as well. "They just don't quit do they?" More shells fly towards the fighter. "Ive spotted their main base of operations. They are behind us Larry." I turn the craft around and head for their main base.

"Well they were a curious pair," Dissero stepped into the doorway of the security lab where [member="Verie Lacroix"] sat watching the holo-feeds, mug of tea in hand, Noghri Assassin standing guard ever vigilantly.

He smiled despite the paranoid concerns prickling at his thoughts. Worries that would not have come to fruition had he not the life he now lead. Were he not an expectant father and content to keep his secrets secret and private life private. It was a strange sensation; knowing that your sequestered home was now public knowledge. The man felt saturated by a need to move.

Far, far away.

"Put some thought into where you'd like to move?" Dissero lifted his cup to his lips only to be reminded that it was empty. Dangit.

Kriel considered his Master's words. There was more to the question than he considered at first. And unlike his first answer, he had to pause before responding, but finally he did so.

"I am unsure if I truly have the measure of the man from that visit. He was guarded I believe, which makes me believe he is powerful. Those that generate a lot of noise tend to be weak. The silent ones, well they tend to be either excellent buffers or are truly worthy opponents. I sensed an ego. He could have merely let us leave, but he felt the need to offer a veiled threat. But as I say, any more would be guesswork on my part. And as for your second question, they should both be respected as opponents in their own way. Any an that can reach the top of a tree has clearly learned to overcome his weaknesses and therefore should not be underestimated. And the strong man may appear a weakling, but it's too easy to ignite his passion by similarly underestimating him. Strength and power come in many forms and to overvalue or undervalue any given style is to be foolish in my opinion. Know your opponent's weaknesses and exploit them. And show no mercy. If it suits the Supreme Leader, kill them. Do not give them the chance to retaliate."

Kriel did not know if this was a good response or not, but he had given an honest account and wondered what his Master would have to say.

"No, my Disciple," Greifen said sternly, leaning out towards his Apprentice, "Truly I tell you, the second is worse."

Kriel had made generally good observations about Dissero and the situation, so Greifen's tone, despite being stern, was one of guidance and instruction, rather than anger. He had taught his Disciple well thus far, though his understanding had yet to be completed.

"A powerful man of great capabilities, who chooses to withdraw from his natural position of leadership, does he not enable men like the weakling to assume power in the first place?" Meanwhile, the dropship began to lift into the air, and Greifen turned to look out the window to watch the ground of Vassek's moon slowly becoming more distant.

"Powerful Dissero may be, but he squanders his power here, cloistering himself on this moon," Greifen said, returning his gaze from the window to Kriel. "He has forsaken his natural station for ambivalence, self-gratification. His goals are directed inward. This, my Disciple, is a sin worse than weakness. This is the beginning of moral decay."

Greifen sat back in his chair.

"Meditate on these things, Kriel. And then prepare for lightsaber instruction when we return to Dosuun."
