2016 Election

I would just like to say, we Republicans aren't that bad, we didn't want Trump, we were forced to take him or lose our chance at taking the election, it sounds low and dirty, but that's the whole point of democracy, beating the other guy. And there is always a chance at something good coming from this, just look at the 1932 election where everyone thought the country would collapse due to Hoover Policies (Hoover policies being alike to Hoover shoes being tissue boxes, and hoover blankets being newspapers) or the seemingly communist FDR, but instead we were given one of the best presidents in US history.

On another note, I would like to say this is way over done. The president doesn't have as much power as one would think, he/she is just the face of that power. We have the congress (Which is overwhelmingly Republican, but not necessarily pro-Trump, both to my likings) and the Supreme court who wield more power than the president combined. These are the real people who decide things, Trump just gets to cut in line, if these two stand true to what the American people stand for, then the country will improve rather than decline. I would also like to say that calling us idiots (Americans), or foolish, or however you would like to put it, isn't very welcoming. If he is a mistake such things happen, for instance president Taylor, you can't expect the best outcome in every decision the United States of America makes.

On a final kind've related note, I would like to ask, please don't look bad on us Republicans, Trump wasn't even a Republican until less than 4 years ago, he's been on the democratic ticket since the late 90s, the Republican party was but a platform for his launch to president. Please don't assume that because the Republican party has a majority in government that the US will become so bad and scary because we are inherently bad and will reverse all progressive policies to our uber-conservative agendas.

Just like to note, I am in no way a Trump supporter, just a supporter for the Republican party.

Get this political garbage outta here. Seriously?!

I don't like getting involved with political talks. Your opinion will always upset someone
However looking at this year, Brexit and then Trump I think we have been shown something, the world is not the friendly accepting place we all want it to be, the people don't want it to be like it anymore either. Something has to change, people are lost, angry and confused and desperately clinging onto whatever it is that promises to make that change.

At least when you vote for your president he goes in, not like the UK we vote for Leave and get resistance from those who lost the vote to a point it is now just being called an 'advisory vote' and didn't really mean anything. Imagine that, you wake up this morning, Trump wins. January comes around and Clinton is given presidency because some lawyers and politicians didn't really like the idea that the public don't like their idea of a perfect world. SOMETHING...needs to change.

Could Trump be this something. I dunno, but I'll ride the ride.

I'd like to take a moment to point out that in every political election that has ever taken place since the dawn of time, there has always been at least one opponent who was evil incarnate and guaranteed to bring about the end of whatever nation was involved.

Half of the country was convinced back in 2008 that electing Obama would be the end of civilization yadda yadda and there would be fire a day brimstone aplenty. And yet eight years later the world still orbits the sun, the apocalypse has yet to begin, and while he did some things, the country is still pretty much he same as it has been for a long time.

Trump won. He won fair and square. We didn't elect Hitler, or Pol Pot, or Stalin. We elected Donald Trump. Let's remember that just because he might not have been the person you voted for, or would have voted for given the chance, doesn't mean that he's automatically going to do a bad job or bring the country crashing down.

Give the guy a chance before you condemn him. Let's see what happens Inext the next four years. If he does a good job, great. If not, we'll elect someone else. But this time, he won. Over half of the country voted for him. So let's stop posting that same "so this is how liberty dies " Gif over and over again (my Facebook feed, ugh) and just get back to our lives.

Whatever. Life will go on, unless somehow our new president starts WWIII, and life will continue to suck. 4 more years of the same, albeit different color and name, and four more years of dumb.

Say goodbye to every 7-11 in the country, as well as liquor store. No more wine from California, or any agriculture in general from California. On top of it I was never one to say I am an American, because lets be honest everyone here but the Native Americans are immigrants, but that is just my opinion. Now I am ever more so ashamed to be in this country, and will due to fear tactics more than likely be arrested at some point for my political views. I also want to say people will learn from this mistake but come on countrymen and women lets be honest the masses won't learn from this. A favorite quote of mine has always been "If you don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it." Well history has shown every super power of history has fallen, and well since I know he won't care about the general population I can see the downfall of our superpower status coming. Much to my chagrin. For the record I don't hate Republicans, nine times out of ten I will never vote for them, because they don't share my views, but I have no problem being civil with people who support the party, and a lot of my friends I reenact with are part of that party, but this is just disgusting that he was allowed to get this far.

Its not that bad, jeez.

Is it rough, yes. We are one country and one people. We have different views and different opinions, and in this case the Majority (Last I'm seeing he has won the popular vote by a narrow margin) has been heard. If you are ashamed because others voiced their opinions in an election and you disagree with them, then, well, I've got some bad news. This is real life. Buckle up, upsets like this will happen a lot.

Also, remember that Trump is now held to the standards of the Presidency of the United States. One step out of line from what the GOP wants of him, they can get rid of him easy. The Trump of the Campaign Trail will not be the Trump of the Presidency. Already if you had listened to his victory speech, it was like either he was possessed or exorcised earlier today.

There is always a minority in these elections. There has to be. This time it didn't go the way you wanted. It happens.

Life goes on.

When I voted today, I didn't want to vote. I am 20 years old. And since I had heard of voting, I have always wanted to. Now not so much. THe first presidential vote I had was between a buffoon who can't control his actions, and feels it's necessary to belittle many cultures, and a sociopath who believes money, and well placed lies can get her out of so much trouble. Even the third party wasn't all that great. He was loony and didn't keep up with the times on recent events, and even mocked himself for having an "Aleppo moment."

I was more tempted to write down Harambe and vote for a dead animal, than vote for semi-intelligent human beings. *Using Semi-intelligent very, very lightly*

However, I was born and raised a republican. I grew up reciting the bill of rights before I could sing Twinkle-twinkle little star. *No joke, my parents have that on a VHS tape.* I was taught that freedom to choose what you wanted to do with a following consequence, be it good or bad, was the way of life set before me by our country's forefathers. In all honesty, This world and the governments are all different scales of grey. Created on good intentions, but fall short of being the "Perfect" government.

With people kneeling down during our national anthem, I see that it is their right to do so. Millions of people fight and die to protect the ideal of "Freedom." Even if Freedom is fleeting.

I am not ashamed that we have Trump for our president, Nor am I ashamed if we had Hillary for president. Instead, I am disappointed that we have come to make a presidential choice between two idiots of our society, and fear the consequences ahead.

I just hope that the consequences are less severe with Trump as the arrowhead, than Hillary.

I honestly hope that those of you saying that this will all be the same old same old are right.

I fear you're not. I have to raise my three year old in a country where we have rewarded a serial liar, a billionaire who doesn't make his products here or use our materials for his buildings, and makes very bad comments about women and minorities.

There is also the fact that the Republican platform is highly anti-lgbtq. I have family and friends that will be affected by proposed policies in bad ways. I have loved ones who have been bullied by people for being not white and not male.

I am a cis gendered married white male, I am 6'5" and 280lbs. I have a master's degree and decent job prospects. I'm not afraid for myself. I am afraid for them.

You're right.

However, a generation of young men still just got told 'if you believe in yourself and follow your dreams, if you preach hate and fear against a large fraction of your own country, if you take sexual advantage of young women and brag about it, but if you don't do anything REALLY bad, you too can grow up to be President someday.'

+1 my main problem here

In terms of actual policy Trump isn't as regressive as most other Republicans in some areas, he's pretty relaxed about LGBT issues for instance. But the man's personality is a disgusting example, telling young men it doesn't matter how you treat women, minorities or anyone who disagrees with you. You'll still win in the end.

Then there is foreign policy... ick. One ray of sunshine, hopefully Germany and Japan can now get over their post-war hesitation and assert themselves as regional counter weights to anti-democratic elements.

*As long as the person you're running against is universally loathed.

I'd be interested to see how many people voted for Trump, purely because of how incredibly vile and corrupt Clinton is.

FYI this is a skit from 2015...NOT 2000 as all the theorists want you to think. Still funny though.

Killbot 9000 is too busy picking up that truckload of toasters she ordered to appear.

On a real note though, who thought MN and WI would be the states that sealed the deal?

I can't defend the man. He's not a good human being. Its a sad state that he or Hillary was intended to hold our nation's highest office.

My point was, don't condemn those who voted for him as though they explicitly support the rhetoric you posted, or that they are uneducated swine. There is a reason he is now the President Elect, and it isn't because the Majority of Americans can't read and write or are racists. And I know that isn't what you were implying.

My fear is that now that he is president. That this will embolden those who shared his initial rhetoric against minorities and women.

I feel nothing and haven't for years.

If Trump is an indictment on the American society, people are viewing this issue through the wrong lens. Regardless of who won this election, we would have had the bigots and systemic hatred. His position as figurehead in chief does nothing but reinforce for America and the rest of the world that nothing has changed, and regardless of the message of our previous president, nothing will change.

There will always be a power struggle behind the veil. There will always be people who disagree, and fine words that downplay the best efforts of a few people to do the right thing. You're ashamed to be American because of Trump?

Hell with that. I've been ashamed to be American for years.
