A United Jedi Order

Overall, its a nice idea. But too much has happened ICly since the founding of this site and over the last 800 years since the Fall of the Empire. Truly uniting is impossible.
It will only not happen as long as it is willed to not happen.

In order to overcome any obstacle, one must have the willpower to do it.

The question isn't is it possible, the question is do people want it.

Even as I begin to work with others to build up the Templar Order, I had always thought the Jedi need to work together more, then having their splinter factions, essentially fighting among themselves while the Sith keep running free in the Core.

I do wish you all the best of luck in having such a conference and joining happen. It would be nice to see the Jedi together as a whole once more.

The problem comes when one group doesn't want to do what the rest of any supposed council.

What you'll end up is what [member="Menka Guga"] alluded to - a series of vaguely united groups without a central authority able to enforce its will. Basically, Christendom of the medieval period.

So what happens when the GA and SSC members of a council get together and vote for something? The Republic Jedi on the council will be left out. Cue schism.

You know I felt bad of referencing Christianity... a little... but then when [member="Cyril Grayson"] said...

[member="Menka Guga"] - You are the Christianity here, bub.
I started giggling, and with my response, I giggled for a few minutes thinking of your reaction and what it might be. But acknowledging what I have said and then controlling yourself made me lose all air in my lungs. I love this site, there's so much to giggle it. All the fun with just the right amount of seriousness. Dare say I might come to like this Rogue Master...

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] - Well, god willing, folks will be mature and deal with the decisions ICly. If they schism, then they schism. People are people.

The important thing is that the majority work together to bring about some kind of change. We can't control them, and there will be people that leave, but that is the general nature of Chaos and whatnot.

I believe such decisions will have to be handled on a case by case basis. People are generally receptive so long as you let them know they are valued members of the community, and compromises can be made.

I like the idea but as it stands now the jedi orders are to different from one another. Think of the jedi as a religion since they technically are, You got your mega centralized Jedi like the old order, you got your wonky snake handling crazies, your knock on everyones door and have the door shut in your face 1000 times a day order and your frel it lets just do what we want and call it good order. If the sith end up winning over the board then we can have a real rebelion rise up huh

The best, most efficient way, to get a proper, united, Jedi Order of some sort going would be to destroy all of the current orders and start fresh.

But I get the feeling people would rather work together than face a calamity of that sort of defeat (which will happen if the Sith encroach on the remaining two.)

This is not Kool-Aid. This could work. I could get behind This. :)

There is very little different about the Orders as a whole save whose banner they fly.

The different lay in the members, because for some reason the Jedi, for a long time (on this board) thought that the best way to approach conflict was not to accept that there are many paths to the same mountaintop provided they all obeyed the same rules...

Instead, they thought the best way to approach conflict was to leave, and create splinter groups. I'm all for giving this a shot, provided people understand that the Jedi Order does not need to be an utterly harmonious organization. What it needs to be is one that can actually reach compromise, because that's what Jedi do. They solve problems, not avoid them.

You know, with the way the war is going, I kind of expect this to happen. OS attempt to do a great Jedi Purge. Not sure how it would end, though.

I think with this while idealistic in theory, comes with a lot of sacrifice.

That ultimately is the issue. Not just icly but oocly -- even as something as basic as forum organization.

For example -- if this where to happen, then will there be an overarching "The Jedi Order" forum for all the orders to have their own little subforum?

Or will they continue how they are now as minor factions independent, or minor factions within a major faction, or an entire major faction dedicated to non politically aligned Jedi?

But if they do that, how does that really unify or change the current status quo at all?

Anyone still have that genetic code for Order 66?

I agree with this. Groups can and SHOULD have texture within them, it makes them 1) more fun and 2) more realistic. Sure we're writing imaginary stories about an imaginary galaxy, but still, having that sort of situation is what makes it so much fun. The smaller groups are really all Jedi, ts just a matter of where they base out of and how they approach, but the goal of peace is always at hand.

All separate orders could be like special divisions/squads and still get orders from a High Council. It'd be like standard military structure... Higher up giving a subordinate an order, that subordinate carries out that order in how they see fit.
