A Wedding On Retalik: Take Two (Jak Sandrow)

Weapons? Was this place really that dangerous? Leyan didn't like that. And why would some people take a bad interest in her if she tried to use to Force here? Despite her questions, she stayed within inches of Jak's back as they exited the ship.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
As deckhands scurried around, plugging fuel lines and waste lines into the ship, Jak settled expenses with the quartermaster. "One second," Jak asked. He turned to Leyan, "There's plenty to see and do here; did you want to stay here a night, or just keep going once we refueled? We still have at least half an hour before they're done, so it's your call."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Alright, I'll pay for one night docking as well." Once he took care of that, the quartermaster left, and Jak smiled at Leyan. "Alright, let's go!"

Once out of the docking bay, the ground dropped below them. Seriously, they walked out of the docking bay, and onto a wide platform just hanging on the perimeter of the bay. "Ohhh yeah... and transportation here is a bit scary. Unless they added new access ramps or something."

Leyan found herself clutching to the back of Jak's jacket, staring fearfully down at the sheer drop into darkness before them.
"That's.... Very far....."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Yup... the Wookiees live on platforms they've built into the trees; beautiful architecture. I'm not an expert, but it looks good."

The presence of the trees here felt... ancient.... Like stepping back through millennia to witness pivotal events for the first time... There was so much history here.

"We're still barely at the top of the trees here; they go down forever. I've never been down there myself, but I've heard stories a-plenty. Not something you want to listen to just before bed."

Leyan shook her head in agreement. She could already tell that those stories would be dark and scary. She looked up at the sky. Well, the little circle of sky that she could see through the leaves.
"The trees must be very old. And very wise."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"They're either wise," Jak commented, "or they're dead. They're not interested in me in the slightest."

He stopped a deckhand who was coming the other way. "Um, excuse me, we were wondering where the main city is?"

"Sure," the deckhand said, "just over there, beyond the spaceport.

"Is there a lift or a taxi?"

"There's a transit system, it should be leaving in... five minutes."

"Thanks!" As they passed, Jak commented, "That's new since I was here."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Well, it wasn't that long ago, but you basically had to walk everywhere. And before that... you actually had to go on rope bridges. The really narrow ones. And the Wookiees... they jump from tree to tree, using their claws..." He held out his fingers, a good foot apart from each other. "But other than those - which they can retract - they're really cool."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan had never heard of creatures like that before. Large and hairy with claws? She wasn't so sure about meeting them anymore.
"They aren't... Hostile, are they?"

Jak Sandrow

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"Oh, no no no, they're really nice, and they make great food." He grinned. "It's great... if you can handle spices and hard drink... But that's okay, they serve other food, too."

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
"They live on the trees, in the trees, and around the trees," Jak nodded. "Sooo... yes."

The hover taxi showed up, and they climbed aboard, Jak touching his comlink to the driver's 'pad.

Leyan sat down in the taxi next to Jak. As the small craft began moving through endless forest, she stared out the window at the wild beauty of the world.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak turned to her, interrupting her solace. "Sorry, but... this is important. On the off chance we get separated, you need this." He handed her a spare comlink. "It lets me talk to you, so long as you are within 50 klicks. Put it away somewhere safe."

[member="Leyan Viceritas"]

Leyan examined the little device. It seemed strange that a little thing such as this could allow them to talk to each other. But then again, everything about what was happening to her was strange. She slipped the comlink into a secret pocket on her dress.

"Nobody cares for the woods anymore."
Jak thought for a moment. "And you're gonna need to pick something that looks a bit less... royal. I mean... we don't need anyone swooping down and kidnapping you, right? Right?" He grinned, and dropped it immediately. "I'm... gonna look out the window for a while."

Leyan looked down at her dress, and then back to the window. She didn't think the idea of being kidnapped sounded very fun. Toreyl was probably sending people to do that....
She stared out the window with that fear slowly settling into her mind.
