ATTACK OF THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU [OS/TU vs GR]

Salt stocks are up today... The holidays are over.

In an effort to keep everything running as smooth as possible OOC, I figure that we can actually use this thread to set up some basic planning for what looks like is part of a space battle; perhaps to aid in people finding "dance partners" so to speak. Please let me know if I'm missing anyone or if I'm just plain wrong:

Space Battle Participants:

Team "Lightside": Galactic Republic/ Galactic Alliance
Gir Quee (Republic Admiral)
[member="Coren Starchaser"] (piloting X-wing / unknown frigate Stinger?)

Team "Evil GR"
[member=""[COLOR=rgb(235,235,235)][URL="http://starwarsrp.net/user/5394-t%C3%A5lamod-shapochka/"]Tålamod Shapochka[/URL]"[/COLOR]]

Team "Darkside": One Sith / Techno Union
[member="Draco Vereen"] (4 Hranadetr Jairgalaar-class Strike Cruisers; 2 Sith Star Destroyers (unknown class?)
[member="Darth Atrace"] (piloting a Daisya sith infiltrator?)
[member="Cale Gunderson"] (piloting a Star Wing II)

[member="Nomkneer artzhul"] (OS fleet?)

Hey buddy... you certainly can (Probably not against me) Set a fleet limit and I will dredge you up some opposition.

Judging by this, I'm going to bring in the Obi-Wan Kenobi (which for this roleplay will be a vanilla Champion-class Star Destroyer. Along with Starchaser's frigate, I think this puts Team Lightside at ~2000 meters to match Draco's meterage.

But I think we can adjust limits as needed as various "reinforcements" and writers jump in.

As a reminder to everyone involved, it never hurts to communicate to try and work with your IC opposition if at all possible.

Everyone does realize that the core of the GR fleet is going to be orbiting the capital, right? I mean, since we're talking about IC common sense, here...

It's not a walk in the park. Chazwa is the last place it would make sense to raid.

Even so, I'll be there with the "evil GR" fleet under the account of [member="Tålamod Shapochka"].

So, GR is going to sacrifice the entire capital and simply let Sith crush Gen and her clone army (and a bunch of civilians as collateral). And Jedi are siding with GR on this one. I told you it will be interesting! ;)
Alright, let me reprhace, I dont want to join because I think its poor manners to join.
And its a skirmish - Its not razing the capital. If you bash with Gen (in which case you should wait wait wait for her to drop by) thats fine of course.

That is exactly who we are fighting! Besides, an entire corporate backlash against the GR and the OS wont take full advantage? Now that doesn't make IC sense.
This is about a plot being trashed.Gen had a story that should be all about the GR. This skirmish jumps in and wrecks that plot.

One can prob find IC reasons to go and take a crap in the TU capital as well. But, why?
there could have been loads of other places and times to launch a perfectly fine and well planned Skirmish with fun for all sides, but from where I am sitting this is on the contrary very clearly meant to simply crash things.
Its not against any rules, its just poor manners.

To be fair, we were not informed of any plot and how this could wreck said plot. We just thought it would be fun! If anything i think this could make said plot more interesting.

Nomkneer has Two Stardestroyers (i guess Wyyrocks) about about 5-6 squadrons of fighter/bombers i believe (rough estimate) . I will try and contact his sorry butt as soon as possible for ya!

I look forward to you coming, or else i will be very sad.

...
Sorry, but it is not how folks are telling me. And if anyone had bothere to check in I could have told you so.

that said, damage already done. Go have fun.

Plots that involve large events in the galaxy should not be made 'internal only'. This is only my opinion on it, but if a faction has a huge internal only civil war, as is going on, it's perfectly reasonable that external enemies would hit them. If you wanted to make this 100% GR only, then you should have approached everyone involved beforehand - the corporations, the Sith, the Techno Union, and figured out how to include their inevitable movements.

Instead the Republic has taken to OOCly telling people they're ruining a plot and faction, and accusing them of OOC unfairness and rules breaking. It seems like not even all of the people in the Republic agreed on how this plot should go down, or if it should, so maybe you should have waited until, you know, people agreed, so no feelings were hurt over it.

But you didn't, and RP is all about living with the consequences of your actions. You can't just ask for a do-over and retcon dozens of threads, because it got a larger and more negative reaction than you expected.

As Fabula said, the other factions would be perfectly reasonably able to just start invading your territory and taking your stuff from you - instead, they chose a Skirmish, with no long lasting non-RP effects. They were very conscious about not 'punishing' you, they just wanted a fun story of the OS taking advantage of your weakness.

Hold on. What is wrong here is just to enter a plot without approaching the one behind it all in the first place.
Now, I am not saying its against any rules not to. But this would have been much more fun if they had contacted the "plot-drivers" in beforehand and told them their intentions. checking up on whats happening and whats to be expected. I am not speaking for myself, I barely knew the magnitude of this plot until recently but I know that the writers spent many hours to think things out.
In the writers defence I must say that I dont see them wanting to keep folks out, but to just jump in IC without contacting them and checking whats going on in beforehand is blatantly rude.

From their perspective you all just wandered into a trap. but since you already started the IC campaign you chosed to describe the setting without them having a chance. Again, not against the rules. But I do claim poor manners.

And that's fine, but you can still discuss that kind of thing. I'm sure had you come in with 'hey, we have these ideas for how this can play out', people would have responded better than you going 'No one was consulted on this! We weren't asked! You're invading our plot without even knowing it!!'

Yes, RPing is collaborative - so collaborate, instead of assuming the other side has to do all of it?

Come on, guys. Wasn't it just a month ago that the pub forums were full of doom and gloom about the future of the Republic? There was a lot of talk of inactivity, re-branding, and going minor, from what I remember reading on your own forums.

Now you have a story arc and a series of side stories that the entire board wants to join in on, plus, all of this activity for your members, and just because the story is not being told 100% exactly how you want it, you're upset about it?

For me it seems to be a faction admin's dream come true. Instant activity without having to do all the work :p
