Blazing Sky [TECHNO EMPIRE]

[Asteroid Z5, Orbiting Geonosis]
Werah sat in the control of his personal starfighter, checking the display by his shoulder. 6 Pirate Fighters, closing in on him. Werah flicked the controls, and flipped the ship, firing at the pirates while doing so. 2 of the closer ships exploded in a gulf of energy, but the others were still gaining on him. Shouting an order into a headset, Werah called the TE troops attacking the asteroid itself, telling them to get the defence guns back online. Checking the range of the enemy ships, Werah pulled into a tight spiral around them, firing thermal pods at them while doing so. The pods wouldn't break the shields, but the light and explosions would disorientate the untrained pirates. While they couldn't see, Werah fired right at them from behind, quickly destroying them all in a blistering Inferno. "6 down, 60 to go", muttered Werah as he swooped back down towards the fighting on the asteroid.

Context: The TE is attacking a hidden pirate base on an asteroid near Geonosis. They have got a small space force, but heavy defences on the asteroid itself. Feel free to join in!

This was the very reason behind asking for whether the Zambonis would be usable in low-gravity environments: the minefields on that asteroid, surrounding the pirate base. Plus Jessica had a lot to atone for, especially in the aftermath of the Ryloth debacle, whose disastrous aspect was averted thanks to her timely retreat. But she began planning for Hypori, which, hopefully, would become a protectorate instead of taken by force. Once again she decided to tempt fate, and fight the asteroids knowing that her battlefield luck was pretty much black-and-white. Hoping that this time it would mean victory, she decided to make use of her Munificent-X as well as the fighters being attached on another nearby ship. Plus she was a little nervous about Col. Jed Kerkov: he was one of those commanders that people called Austro-Hungarian by the Geonosian populace much like those in the Confederate High Command were also called back in the day, in the sense that they lived "double lives": one day they were commanders and they were back to high-level civilian lives the next. Well, Jessica was also characterized as Austro-Hungarian as well, even though this operation was largely borne out of an attempt to restore the morale of the Geonosian population after Ryloth.

"May the Force be with you, Summer. You're our primary ace, you have several squadrons of droid starfighters at your disposal. However, said starfighter droids can only fly for 35 minutes before they need refueling. You may consider me as your master now"

"Sensor scans indicate that the pirate base's main entry point is through their starfighter hangars"

"All ground units, prepare for landing" she told [member="Aut-X"] and [member="Jed Kerkov"] as the C-9979 landing craft, which were perhaps a little too big for the "runway", approached the starfighter hangars.

The colonel sat at a little command center aboard the landing craft. He was no military man, nor would he stay one for long. He was a banker at heart, and he would stay that way, this stint as an officer in the Techno Empire would only last until he had cemented a more executive position in the empire, if he had to command these mindless canon-fodder fora few years, so be it, it did not hinder his private operations, and it would give him some time to understand a part of the galaxy he did not know well enough. Jed knew well that it would take little effort to rise the ranks, as he had already been given this position using his status as a prominent banker, besides these rust buckets could command themselves, he only need to stand up and take credit.

As the transport descended he moved his hover chair towards the view port of the observation deck he was on, he could see the pirate base loom closer as the C-9979 slugged forward. He could hear the clanking of hundreds of droids preparing for their assault, where they would go at the will of the empire to take laser bolts until the enemy was out and they could storm their base, killing and capturing those inside.

A protocol droid approached him with a platter, set upon this platter was a nerf steak accompanied by a random assortment of well seasoned, well cooked, vegetables. Next to the food was a glass, a bottle of wine, opened, was held in the hand of the protocol droid. Jed smiled when he saw his food had arrived for the viewing of the battle, "Ah, thank goodness you arrived with my meal See-Esks five two." The droid poured him a half glass, Jed nursed the alcohol as the droid tucked the napkin onto his shirt. A fine day to dine.

Aut-X had planned this assault meticulously. Securing the hangar of the Pirate Base would be vital if they were to establish a foothold and begin capturing the facility, so the Super Tactical Droid had made special preparations. The first wave to descend down the boarding ramp of the C-9979 would consist of fifty B2 Super Battle Droids, accompanied by a small group of four Droidekas to soften up the enemy defenders. After they'd secured the vicinity around the transport, several hundred B1 Battle Droids would exit the transport and begin their assault further into the base. Accompanying Jessica would be a squad of five BX-series Droid Commandos, to escort and aid her in carrying out her assigned objective. Aut-X had directed her to strike at the Asteroid's defence turrets, preventing them from assaulting their Munificents and the boarding pods filled with more Battle Droids being deployed to reinforce their attack by reprogramming their targeting systems to strike at the Pirate's own fighters instead.

''A lightning strike will be crucial if we are to eliminate the enemy swiftly with minimal droid casualties. You must ensure their anti-air defences are turned to our advantage, Jedi, or this attack will be costly.'', Aut-X said through his communicator to her as he gazed at schematics of the Pirate facility within the C-9979's Command Center, briefly glancing over at Jed. ''Enjoying your food, sir?'', Aut-X said in an attempt at sarcasm.

Using a lightsaber and mechu-deru to destroy the defenders of the point-defenses... she thought. Luckily she had a few thermal detonators on each BX-series commando droid so that each flak turret, mostly a quad laser, in case the enemy pirates know about her using the Force and attempt to cut her off from it. She keeps thinking of what should happen if the point-defense targeting computer cannot be sliced through. She senses that the weak spot of a given hardpoint is the main control system: a well-placed Electric Judgment shot will have the same effect as the quad laser being hit by an ion weapon. But is it strong enough to be weaponized? That was Jessica's main concern, as she about to use Force-cloak, wearing that WESTAR Skirmisher armor, wielding Coleman Trebor's lightsaber and also using her SI-74, and thinking that a well-aimed SI-74 shot would, at the cost of heavy recoil each time, wreck a quad laser if the anti-slicing systems were such that a given hardpoint was compromised. Yet, she also thinks of doing code injections once any given hardpoint is secured, using her very own dataspike, since Jessica senses that the pirates have no idea what kind of slicers they're dealing with.

"Let's move towards the closest hardpoint!" she told her assigned BX-series commando droids, lightsaber on standby.

Jed didn't look up form his steak, "At least I can enjoy it." That damn droid had become a nuisance to Kerkov. He was all work no fun, a real buzzkill. The businessman had a hard time trying to enjoy himself when on duty. To him this was a break from his tiring life as a banker, not another job, and he intended to keep that way. Jed set down his fork and swiveled his head towards Aut-X, "I trust colonel, you will be able to handle this battle. I will head to my personal quarters, to revise, my strategy for the day." Jed nodded to the droid and began pressing buttons on the hover chair. Slowly it retreated towards the exit of the command center, Jed pressed an artificial smile, "Ta-ta, Auty." A door opened for Jed, his chair, and his personal servant droid, CX52, to disappear in.

The journey towards his quarters took a a quarter hour, which gave him time to enjoy his meal. Battle droids passed to and fro in the hallways, only one organic being seen on the little trip. The moment he entered the little housing, the droid removed the platter from in front of Jed, and the colonel stood on his feet, stretching his stiff joints he moved a few steps to sit back down at his own dining table. From there the droid set the platter down on the metal table and Jed continued his meal. This was the life.

The pirates defending the closest hardpoint were closing in on the commando droids, who held the enemies off while Jessica, whose refraction index was -1 to any equipment the pirates could use, and hence invisible - because she knew the pirates weren't Force-sensitive, at least around the hardpoint. I can make it to the hardpoint's door until my refraction index goes back to its complex-valued normal, she thought. Once she returns back to normal, Jessica arrives just where the door is, protected by an electronic device that is encrypted. She knew that such devices could be pried open if the magnetic lock malfunctions: she uses Electric Judgment on the control panel, hopefully proving able to weaponize Electric Judgment for once, and not just use it for things such as recharging a lightsaber, soldering or defibrillating patients in cardiac arrest. The door is demagnetized; time to find out whether the systems can be sliced, she thought. Meanwhile, the commando droids were facing roughly 30 pirates using personal energy shields called pavise to protect themselves.

"Hold the door while I attempt to slice the targeting systems!"

The initial landing had gone relative smoothly. The first wave of Droidekas and B2 Super Battle Droids had quickly annihilated any early resistance, paving the way for a few hundred B1 Battle Droids to join the fray. They quickly surged forth into the corridors linked to the hangar, encountering resistance, though nothing their numbers couldn't make up for. These pirates, however tenacious, were lacking in military grade equipment, leaving them vulnerable to the combined fire of the swarms of B1's engaging them. However, the pirates had one sleeve in the hole. A lowly ex-Sith Apprentice who'd gone criminal and joined their ranks was proving ''difficult'' to remove from the equation. Aut-X had calculated for this eventuality, however.....

Another squad composed of ten BX-series Droid Commandos descended the ramp of the landing craft into the hangar, each armed with their standard E-5 Blaster Rifles and their large handheld energy shields in which to form a shield wall to contain the force user. They were followed by Aut-X's secret ace in the hole. A trio of IG-100 Magnaguards, garbed in long grey cloaks followed the commando squad, each armed with their trademark electrostaffs. One of the droid's cloaks was more detailed and ornate than the others, indicating a leadership role of sorts. Originally part of a cargo shipment of more of said droids aboard the archaic CIS core ship Aut-X was discovered upon by Jessica, they were originally destined to be sent back to the castle of General Grievous upon the Third Moon of Vassek, and possessed notable combat skill against Jedi thanks to their programming by the infamous droid general himself. Now, they'd been reprogrammed to serve the Super Tactical Droid without question, his own private honour guard. They proceeded towards the last known location of the former Sith, ready to begin their work...

Turning the point-defense against their original owners was mostly, well, a trick that made use of code injections. Ransomware would be better kept for operations requiring the destruction of files, so that wasn't called for. Code injections was something Jessica knew could work as a slicer to enter a targeting computer, once she entered developer mode for the master point-defense targeting computer, itself connected to the main sensor array. Thank the Force that I learned how targeting computers were vulnerable to slicing from Marcia, she thought. As she entered developer mode, she could change the definition of friendlies and hostiles according to the slave targeting computers, of which one was posted on each hardpoint. Hopefully the commando droids' pavises would hold while Jessica was busy slicing through the enemy master targeting computer to that end. The now-enemies on the targeting systems indicate that they carry Hutt Cartel transponders. She opened a channel to her ground commanders, [member="Aut-X"] and [member="Jed Kerkov"], as well as [member="Werah Unon"] in space:

"There's something troubling: we just hit one of the Hutt Cartel facilities in this region!"

"The probability of hitting a Hutt Cartel facility on Geonosis was 32%"

Jed was near finished with his meal, somewhat buzzed from his luxurious amount of alcohol ingested. But before he could conclude his early supper a battle droid approached his quarters, impatiently he dropped his silverware, "What is it!" The droid nearly stuttered, "Some important information has been uncovered in the firefight, the pirate station belongs to the Hutt Cartel sir!" The B1 began to shrink in fear of being blasted, after interrupting his food. But Jed felt a different anger, one of revenge. He remembered the time where his own convoy was raided by the Jackals, a well known associate of the Hutt Cartel. It's leader, Flannigan Mcnash, had taken a high position among the Cartel, and he wanted to get his revenge, in any form possible. The business stood up abruptly, throwing off his cloth napkin, "See-ecks five two, get my uniform, now!"

The protocol droid grabbed his dark blue uniform, decorated with brass buttons, gold epaulettes, and a ornate felt belt, fashioned only for holding his officer's blade. Jed stood in T position, his arms out to either side, as the droid fashioned the coat over his body, hiding all excess flesh. As the droid finished fitting the last button, Jed took his silver plated CDEF blaster pistol and attached it to his dress holster, while CX-52 offered him his officer's blade, but he did not want to have the long shiny appendage to slow him down. Fully dressed, he declared, "On to the battlefield."

The room stood still the dark of space all consuming in its shadowy confines, all except for the occasional flicker of light from distant stars hanging heavy casting pale silvery light, their beams stretched over the dashboard and swelled and pooled forming small pockets of light like strange tides from unknown celestial shores depositing their briny cargo on the shoals of the station. The slight tremor of breath, the soft suckling sound of machines ticked in the silence. "[member="Thraxis"], Cadan." crooned a non human voice, the lights flicked on the terminals blinked to fuzzy life. "We've got company." He slid the small pin through one of the cuffs of his coat, the small pin bobbed up and down the symbol of the Hutt Cartel bobbed there.

qNpnXdZ.png
He adjusted himself patting down the folds and crease in his attire wearing a dark coat decked out in silver jewels and gems, a small necklace of figurines hung from his heavy neck, rocking back and forth and grinning their skeletal grin. "Have the men reinforce the breaches, signal for more reinforcements." He pulled at the hilt of his sword the ripe red gem sparkling dully in the dim light, the blade just poking out of the sheath before slamming it back down into it. "Bring me their heads, do you think we could pike them to the asteroids without them floating away? It reminds me what an old man said to me once 'Severed heads never go out of fashion. Used sparingly and with artistic sensibility, they can make a point a great deal more eloquently than those still attached'."

The Cartel Enforcers moved as one, a sea of armour and stained cloth, as if there but one and not many. Their right foot rose and fell in unison. With each footfall the sound of heavy boots crunched along metal hallways. With each step the sound of the boots was thunder of a coming storm. Slung about their shoulders were with blasters and small side arms. Their helmeted forms loom straight as they move towards the fray.

He realized before the voice even muttered the words, their was a wash of joy, a feeling of blood curled anguish almost flooding everything around him, and it always meant the same thing, that one word that rang the same in all tongues from the Violent Gammoreans, to the Calm and Passive Gen'Dai. War. A word with so many forms and all of which chilled the weaker men to the bone.

His pupils focused in, striding towards his cupboard, his arms swinging with free uncontrolled movement, a tinge of energy flushed through his system as his fingers curled around the strap, his fingers rubbing up and down that same almost bordering on intimate feeling as he strapped his bag over his back, his black eyes flared with life for a few seconds as he looked around the walls, before camouflaging the luminescent joy behind his mask, slowly creeping down as it tucked tightly around his neck.

Slowly he took his step out of his room, his arm raising to the top of his mask as he looked back and fourth, "[member="Bazinki"], meet me at the breach. Be ready for blood spill and gun fire." he said into his com, a sharp turn taken as he started his stroll towards the breach, he had no idea why, but ever since that Rodian showed him respect, he had nothing short of an affinity for the lad. A fine man who he would hope would one day rise to the ranks of Cartel Enforcer. If not, supersede himself.

A stroll, he had no sense of fear in any step, it was as if a current of calm had washed through him, his sight placid an uneasy calm radiating off him before the battle. As he walked he saw the Enforcers break down into unison, their steps, a rhythmic metronome, not a step out of place, not crunching down to soon, or to late, a well breed stock of soldiers the Cartel had produced, and he fell in line, at the back, in theory he was their equal, in practice he stood a foot taller then most all in the Cartel today.

Cadan staggered around his small room peicing together his amour. Hastily he threw on the armour, and shoved his DL-18 blaster pistol in his thigh holster. Cadan also attatched his MM9 Rocket System to his robotic right arm, and his CZ Wrist-Mounted Flamethrower to his left arm. The Spice Lord of the Hutt Cartel began to search the room for his main blaster and his vibro blade. Once Cadan found his Guass Rifle, equipt with a AST he jumped through the door, spice still flowing through his veins.

"Aye! Flannigan, where are we 'eadin'?" Cadan said through his helmets comm link. The Duros saw the flow of the Enforcers and began to follow their movements until he wound up in the exact same room as Flannigan.

"There you is boss." Cadan pointed his two hands towards Flannigan, pretending they were pistols. "Tell where the enemies at and I'll make sure they ain't wakin' up tomorrow." The Duros attempted to stand at attention like the rest of the Enforcers, but instead wound up using one as a way to steady himself. At the moments it would seem that Cadan was absolutly out of it, although once he was in the frey he would be able to settle himself.

The Hutt Cartel. Even in the Clone Wars, they'd been a fearsome thorn in the side of the old Confederacy at times. Aut-X had not calculated their presence due to a lack of intel, but he quickly began to create a remedy for the situation. Aut-X signalled the Munificents above to send reinforcements and begin jamming all enemy signals. Soon enough, four HMP Droid Gunships flew into the hangar, swinging around to drop off more B2 Super Battle Droids before flying back out again. Aut-X dispatched another wave of Droidekas as-well, forming up an impressive reinforcement force to push their current advantage. Meanwhile, the force of Magnaguards and Commando Droids he'd deployed earlier had engaged the renegade Sith Apprentice assisting the Cartel force, the trio of IG-100's proving slightly overwhelming for the inexperienced Sith pretender, though for the moment he was holding....

On the exterior of the asteroid base, in the vacuum of space, teams of B1 Rocket Battle Droids had begun using fusion cutters to cut through the hull of certain areas of the station to create their own access points, filtering inside to harass the enemy flanks. Trident-class Assault Ships baring teams of BX-series Commando Droids were doing very much the same, allowed a gap through the enemy defense turrets thanks to the work of Jessica. Battle raged across the entirety of the station, with the superior numbers of droids and their ruthless boarding tactics proving quite effective...

Sareen followed the cartel enforcers closely, his own equipment scratched and scuffed, somewhat in uniform with his other Cartel members. He no longer wore a face plate of any kind, not anymore would he hide behind a mask, now his enemies would truly see his face, full of anger and hate. Although getting into these firefights weren't really his business, Sareen would do anything for the Cartel, and if it meant making some expensive looking battle droids into scrap metal, so be it. His two DL-18s hung closely to his belt, accompanied by two thermal detonators and his prized lightsaber. His gauntlets charged, Sareen knew he was prepared. The onslaught of the battle droids up ahead only made him giddy with anticipation, oh did he love some good on mano vee mano action.

Sareen noticed Tazi's tardy arrival, remarking, "I wasss about to asssume you wouldn't make it Cadan, glad you didn't misss it, thisss ssskirmissh isss one not to absssence." He gave him a toothy grin and unholstered both his pistols, cocking both blasters.

Poodoo has snowballed... yet Jessica has shown once again that she was a rather reliable slicer in Jedi service. Now that the point-defense array was theirs, the array of battle droids being offloaded to the asteroid bought her some time to get into position; as a combatant Jessica was probably more a strategical kind of woman than a front-line one. Still, Jessica was leaving the turret to the initial five BX-series commando droids, Meanwhile in space, Jessica's flagship, a Munificent-X, led a squadron containing two C-9980s and two Hardcell-Xs, used respectively as an assault frigate and an anti-starfighter frigate. For the first time she is to draw her lightsaber on active duty for something other than as a plasma cutter. She feels a little nervous, but since she still remembers how to use a lightsaber to defend herself, especially on the outer two rings of defense, which are those who matter most against blaster-wielders. She does not sense that the Hutt Cartel is making heavy use of lightsaber-wielders, unlike the Sith Triumvirate, the other big enemy of the Techno Empire.

"Hold the turret; I will go make my junction with the minesweeping unit"

"Roger, roger"

Her predecessor at the head of Ringovinda StarYards sold 2 squadrons of minesweeping tanks; Werah asked about low-gravity capability because this asteroid is low-gravity. Which meant that her mobility was less of an issue to her as a person but still not a strength. So while Jed and Aut-X lead the charge up front, Jessica was to attempt a back attack to supplement their allies at the front and the flanks. She knew that the enemy would expect the brunt of the enemy force to come at the other two ground commanders.

Mephite found himself late the the party. He'd been in an oil bath when [member="Cadan Tazi"] had commed him. The fast-talking Duros somehow managed to be incomprehensible even to his sensors. All he got was the coordinates and 'expect to be shot at' while he made shooting gestures.

The last part went without saying. Organics were so hostile. Not at all like his life in a Shard colony on Orax. Decisions could take literal decades or even centuries.

Lots of long and deep thoughts about everything and anything. But then a Shard could expect to live for centuries at the very least. Being in a droid body had given Mephite an appreciation for a sense of time. Mainly that there never was enough of it.

So it was that he found himself joining his comrades-in-arms. His E-11 spoke in short sentences as he fired into advancing ranks of antique battle droids from cover in the hangar bay. B-1's mainly, he noted, even older than the IG-86 frame. Still a mainstay for their cheap effectiveness.

Werah checked the seals on the oversized mech suit, and closed the visor with a snap. He looked at the Z-5 Alpha droids around him, their massive frames dwarfing the technicians nearby. The attack on the HC was working, but simple B-1 droids could only do so much. Werah had returned to the carrier for that reason: to bring in the big guns. The ship drew within landing range, and the big black droids began to jump out, the low gravity allowing them to make a soft landing on the asteroid below. Cocking his turbolaser, Werah leapt out of the bay as well, landing gracefully at the front of the group. "Charge!", shouted Werah, his mask making his vice boom across the battlefield...

The rodian was merely idling within the base, at least until he received the call asking for him. Without a helmet, the alien had to suffice with a comm hooked into his pointed ear. Pressing a finger into the button that would broadcast his voice to the Cartel's comms, he would simply reply to Thraxis with a: "Bloodspill? Gunfire?! Yes! Will meet you there!" Releasing his cupped finger from the button, he would be on his way towards this breach, cocking and readying the Vonginator that was strapped to him.

It was ironic, really. Bazinki escaped his home planet, Rodia, to get away from the clan wars and the people that were after him. Now? His environment hadn't changed much. The crowd he was with were far from angels, and even if he survived this conflict, it was likely he would have more enemies than he would ever have. The only difference is that these were aliens; many were of different species, and almost all of them were complete strangers. To him, that's all that really mattered. He was used to these scenarios anyway, at least if you took out the space part.

Eventually, his travels through the base would lead him to the back line of the marching Cartel Enforcers, spotting Thraxis and standing near his side, joining the march. It took a few moments, but the rodian would soon join the rhythm of the march: his boots adapting to the time of everyone else's. His head would turn to ask Thraxis in broken Basic, "So! What blood we spilling? Good blood? Bad blood?"

Flannigan's commlink would start to beep with a green light to signal a new message, one from a frequency he would recognize from the incident in the White Palace, one that managed to slice into his guard's channels after capturing few of their communication devices.

Once activated it would be clear that the source of transmission would be encrypted, but nevertheless a blue image of a droid sitting back in a chair with his feet kicked up on some sort of console would appear, the machine was spinning a revolver on his finger,

"My sources tell me that you have some trouble with old, old droids on Geonosis,"

In truth the droid was watching over the proceedings in the region because of Techno Union activity, after the incident on Ryloth they attracted the machine's attention,

"And as an old, old droid myself, I tend to be rather efficient when dealing with other droids. I used to fight against them during the Clone Wars you see. The Confederacy is gone, and I am still here. It seems we have a common enemy in this one, so I offer my services."

HK stopped spinning his revolver and pointed it at Flannigan through the hologram,

"If you are not afraid of the price."
