The buzzing of the commlink on the armrest of his seat had John sending a long-suffering glance across the bridge towards the engineer in charge of the sensors, receiving a helpless shrug in reply before he reached for the commlink. "Master Amadis, thanks for the offer. We've got a bug somewhere up towards the front of the ship that's causing a cascading failure through the entire sensor system. We're effectively blind as far as anything in front of us right now. I'm trying to pull sensor feeds from the shipyard and allied ships in the area so we can test the rest of the systems, but as things currently stand if we had to go into combat we're a walking target. If you can grab your teams and work your way up front we can liaise with you and see if we can lock down the problem. I'm pretty sure we're looking at a miswired datahub that's corrupting the flow of the system."
Leaving the commlink locked into the on position John placed it back down on the armrest as his fingers flew over the controls in front of him. The system was designed to make the sharing of data as easy as possible so that there was no bottleneck in the middle of a battle, but that still all had to flow through this station and the man commanding the ship. Which meant, in theory, he should be able to jury-rig a workaround so they could run tests on the CIC machines and long-range analysis while they waited for the sensors to come back online. Just one item on the expanding checklist that came with the launching of any new major vessel.
