Faction Classroom Etiquette (NJO)

xiqfVVX.png

A Jedi's strongest weapon wasn't their lightsaber, but their words. Form Zero, the non violent form. The belief that the best blade was one kept in it's sheath. With all the wars going on, the battles against the Sith, Imperials, even Mandalorians yet again, this was an often forgotten lesson. One that the new generation of Jedi needed to learn, or at least be reminded of. Hence this class. There were few who knew the importance of etiquette more than those from nobility. Every interaction amongst the courts needed that etiquette.

For Jedi, though, that level of etiquette could be the difference between holding a lightsaber and activating it.

Lead by Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania the new generation of Padawan's would find them in a classroom aboard the Prosperity, the New Jedi Order's flagship temple. With the Coruscant Temple only just rebuilt and the Core still boarded by foes on Tython, it was the most ideal place to have them gather. Aris himself sat in the classroom, a frown on his face. He knew the lesson. He learned a lot in his youth with that droid, but it wasn't the sort of thing he had fond memories of.

Just memories.

The lesson now was pretty simple. How to be polite. How to avoid saying something that could inadvertently start a problem. It was a simple enough concept, but Aris knew he was often the cause of turmoil with how blunt he spoke on things. Even now he was flipping through a cheat sheet of simple phrases that were the most neutral they could be for greetings, disagreements, agreements, the like. He'd gotten too good at being able to end problems with his blade. Now he wanted to ensure he could use his words. Didn't help he couldn't use a mind trick to do so either.

He let out a sigh as he slumped in his seat. This was certainly going to be more difficult for him than he figured.

OOC
Just a little social thread/maybe actual training for some of the newer Jedi writers and all others. Get better with your words and have some fun! I'll occasionally post some DMish posts to give ideas on lessons and when/if Cora feels up to it she'll make her own, but for now enjoy trying to speak good with fellow Padawan friends!

The Prosperity,
New Jedi Order's Praxeum Starship.

The Jedi Praxeum Starships were always awe-inspiring, monumental symbols of the Order's commitment to peace and duty across the galaxy. The Prosperity was no exception—a gleaming testament to the Galactic Alliance's vast resources and its steadfast backing of the New Jedi Order. Samuel Creed felt little surprise at the grandeur, knowing well the influence and wealth behind such a creation.

This was his first time aboard Prosperity, yet Samuel was familiar with vessels like it, aware of their pivotal role in Jedi history. For him, this journey was more than an opportunity to admire the ship—it was a brief respite from his usual duties, a chance to reflect. Officially, he was being redirected, nudged by elder Jedi to reassess his priorities.

Samuel had always kept a deliberate distance from the student body, his reasons for doing so known only to him. Today, however, he made an exception, responding to his superiors' request to engage more with the younger generation, to let them learn from him. It was a break from his usual routine, a step toward something different. Whether he embraced this shift was yet to be seen, but he remained open to the possibility of growth.

Still, the optimism felt foreign, and he wasn't entirely convinced.

As Creed entered the classroom, he paused for a moment, his eyes sweeping across the room, silently noting the students already present. He lifted his head, his lips pressing into a thin line of discomfort, before he moved aside to the right, stepping out of the doorway to allow others to enter. He positioned himself against the wall, hands clasped in front of him, fingers intertwined, quietly observing.

If the students needed him, he was there. Whether something would spark his interest, only time would tell.

Roman Vossari strode into the classroom aboard the Prosperity, his heart thrumming with the heady mix of excitement and anticipation. This was no ordinary day; it was his first time on the flagship temple of the New Jedi Order. A surge of warmth coursed through him as he took in the sleek, spacious room with its elegantly curved walls and softly glowing holo-displays.

Though he had spent most of his life training in the shadows of the Coruscant Temple, the atmosphere here felt different, almost electric. A fresh sense of purpose permeated through the air. After all, in a time filled with conflict and unease, Roman understood the importance of honing not just his fighting skills, but the very foundations of what it meant to be a Jedi.

He parked himself at a desk and looked around, eager to gauge the expressions of his fellow Padawans. Some appeared excited, whispering to one another about the prospect of combat training or lightsaber demonstrations. Others wore expressions of apprehension, perhaps wondering how this etiquette-focused class could possibly prepare them for the real challenges they would face against the Sith and the Mandalorians.

Roman couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride. He had been one of the more experienced Padawans, and while he loved wielding his lightsaber, he had learned through bitter experience that a well-placed word could sometimes be a greater weapon. He had watched too many friends rush headlong into combat, relying solely on their blades to solve disputes that could have been defused through dialogue.

He settled further into his seat, soaking in the murmurs, adopting an air of nonchalance that belied his eagerness. Just as he was about to lose himself in thought, his attention was captured by a Knight standing against one wall, a figure of quiet authority. He was ready to learn and excited to meet this teacher that had prepared the class.

A sigh reached her ears. Cora looked up from the tome she'd been going over with a Rodian Padawan, one that outlined etiquette among the Nagai. A culture focused on honor and combat, their customs were different to how things were often done in the core. Even knowing a few vital pieces of information could make the difference between a successful mission and another missing in action report.

"Padawan Noble," her voice carried across the room, smooth and firm as she addressed Aris. "Have you something to share with the class?"

Diplomacy was a skill best learned through experience, but classroom learning could supplement that. Right now, students were free to study on their own, or engage one another in practice conversations.

Whichever they chose, they were expected to have good manners.

A muffled snicker slipped past Zaiya's lips as Knight von Ascania caught Aris's dramatic slump into his chair -- well, dramatic for him, anyway. Zaiya nudged him with a glowing blue patterned elbow, silently teasing him for getting caught.

Her eyes sparkled with mischief, bright and iridescent, as she leaned forward on her own desk beside him. The look she gave Aris was clear as day, practically saying, Oh yes, please, do share with the class, Your Highness.

No words were necessary; her expression did all the talking for her.

Honestly, Zaiya was looking forward to this class. As a Lovalla, she believed in finding peaceful solutions whenever possible. Violence was a last resort, something to be used only when every other option had been exhausted. Her people valued discourse and open communication, and Zaiya felt the same way. Sure, there were times when talking wouldn't be enough, and she knew that from personal experience -- from losing her parents in a Sith attack. But even then, she preferred to escalate only when necessary, always aiming to keep things under control, to find a way that didn't involve hurting anyone if she could help it. It was why, so far, she hadn't taken a life. A part of her wondered how long that could last, and how she'd cope when -- or if -- that line was ever crossed.

Zaiya took a moment to glance around the room, pleased to see a few familiar faces. One person was leaning against the wall, looking as if they were waiting for something, while another -- new, but vaguely familiar -- walked in.

Oh, right, that was Roman, the teenager she'd met on Taris. Zaiya sent him a little wave in greeting before turning her attention back to Aris, eager to see how he'd respond to Knight von Ascania's question.

She couldn't help but feel a buzz of anticipation; whatever happened next, it was sure to be entertaining.

Anneliese hurried at a slight sprint down the corridors of the Prosperity, the new Jedi Flagship. Masters and Knights alike throwing the young fiery redhead a look of disapproval as she hurried down the hallway. Now -- granted, being late wasn't exactly what she perceived as etiquette, she was however fairly positive arriving late was not good either. Seeing the classroom ahead, Anni slowed down her pace and tried her best to slow her breathing... what would she say if she was called out, if the class had already started? A groan escaped her mouth as she stopped at the door. It had been sometime since she had gotten to attend a class with her fellow Padawan peers... maybe Aris was here? Loomi? Roman?

Stepping into the classroom, quietly slipping in she scanned the room as she tried to make out who was here. She saw that Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania was the one whom seemed to be leading the class, and to her luck, it hadn't gotten into full swing yet as she saw independent studying and chattering among her peers. Pulling her satchel over and off her shoulders she sat down towards the back of the room, not wanting to create her usual fuss. As she got her supplies ready, her heart stopped as she looked dead ahead. She knew those red locks of hair anywhere -- it was Roman Vossari Roman Vossari . Fixing her own hair slightly, and fussing with her unruly curls she continued to scan the room, her eyes looking over and near popping out of her head. "Holy chit." She spoke softly as she saw Aris Noble Aris Noble . Internally, and externally she couldn't help but to grin, time had been good to Aris -- the small fry had managed to grow, a bunch -- which also was just unfair, Anneliese was clearly doomed to be the short firecracker she was for the rest of her life.

Continuing to scan the room, she saw a few other faces, such as Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti whom she'd never really talked with, but knew of as she was in the same age group as her. Finishing up her visual stalk of the room, Anni pulled the last of her writing materials out and awaited, her eyes gazing off and on Roman. Hopefully she wasn't going to be too distracted, but, no promises... if there was one thing Anneliese needed to learn, it was when and when not to open her spirited mouth as it had definitely gotten her into trouble more than once.. as calling someones mother a Rancor's back-end wasn't necessarily the most diplomatic thing... a grin once again forming across her lips -- yeah, this class was definitely a needed one for her.

Valor wasn't accustomed to classes like these. They felt foreign, almost trivial to him. Until recently, he had never attended lessons alongside other students. The idea that he needed instruction in etiquette was, in his mind, absurd. He wasn't exactly thrilled to be stuck interacting with what he saw as the goody two-shoes crowd Braze Braze often surrounded himself with.

Glancing briefly toward Aris Noble Aris Noble , Valor noted how the youth had grown since the last time he'd seen him. Braze had always seemed fixated on the boy for one reason or another, but Valor barely cared beyond observing the change in his size.

Valor knew etiquette, or so he thought. Yet, apparently, calling Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania a "scar-faced hag" had been enough to convince Ko Vuto Ko Vuto that Valor needed this kind of lesson. A notion that made him inwardly roll his eyes.

The soft hum of a hover chair filled the air as Katherine entered the classroom. It had been almost a week since the Healers had cleared her from being confined to the medical bay. She no longer needed to be kept in a bacta tank, but the redhead Padawan was far far from being able to walk.

Bones had been healed, but it was going to take a significant amount of physical therapy before they were confident in Katherine walking again. So for the foreseeable future, she was going to be mostly confined to using a hover chair to get around.

Katherine spared a brief glance around, though no meeting anyone’s eyes. There were very apparent bags under her eyes, and there was no real brightness in those light blue orbs anymore. Her vibrant red hair had seemingly lost some of its lustre, though was far from the long, mangled mess it had been when she had been rescued. Katherine was adorned in the usual Padawan attire, the tunic concealing the majority of the scarring. But there was no hiding the lightning scarring across her hands.

However, there was something most glaringly absent from Katherine, her wings. Those oversized, white bloodstained wings that the Padawan was pretty much known for, were completely absent.

The Padawan knew she didn’t necessarily need to be here, nor would it have been frowned upon if she wanted to further avoid being seen in public. But despite how broken she felt, Katherine still harboured some stubbornness.

While the possibilities were high that she wouldn’t be able to ever properly walk again, the redhead wasn’t going to let it stop her from doing anything.

Finding an empty spot, Katherine turned her hover chair around and parked it.

Aris blinked.

It took him a moment to realize Cora was talking to him, even though she'd actually used his name. What had he done? Did he do something? He sat up immediately, clearing his throat. That's what it was. His posture, right? No, she asked him a question? But why? Of all the students here he didn't really need this lesson did he? Or maybe that line of thinking was why?

Those thoughts played out over his face in a deep, thoughtful way. He was visibly processing the information as he tried to figure this all out. It didn't help he glanced to Zaiya either to see her expression. She was drinking this in, wasn't she? Even worse was that he could hear others arriving to the room. And even the swear behind him from a familiar voice. He blinked again, tough he didn't dare look over his shoulder with how put on the spot he was.

But that was Anna, right?

"I- Don't-"

"Then you should mind your tone and your posture. Be present in the conversation, the topic. If you let your mind wander and sigh as you did, that could and likely would be taken as an insult. For Jedi it is imperative that we appear calm and in the moment, Padawan Noble."

The voice echoed out calm and smooth from quite the large individual. White furred and very much ursine the aged looking Master simply stared and observed the Padawans. His gaze shifted to Zaiya. "All emotion, Padawan Ceti, should be attempted to be reeled in. I understand it is difficult, but you should avoid making the facial expressions with it, mm? I want you all to group up now. Take turns. One of you will be playing the problem, be it a politician, a pirate, a thug, or generally someone uncooperative. Knight Ascania and I will travel about, give some pointers. Now, chop chop."

Sat in the corner of the room, on a chair that was slightly too small and under a veritable cloud of disdain was an unhappy Jedi Knight.

Jedi Knight Makko Vyres had spoken with an uncouth tongue directly to a Jedi Master. To the wrong Jedi Master.

Revenge was not a Jedi concept, but Makko could not help but feel that there was an acceptable level of vindictiveness. After all, Jedi Master Galinar had personally brought the small chair from the youngling's room and forced him to sit and wait

He had come a long way, but not far enough that such treatment didn't make him feel rebellious. That led him to his second predicament. To disrupt the lesson was to draw ire from someone else who could enact punishment.

One of you will be playing the problem, be it a politician, a pirate, a thug, or generally someone uncooperative.

"I can do uncooperative," he muttered.

"I can do uncooperative," he muttered.
"Could that be because that's your standard mode of operation?" Valor quipped, his voice carrying a playful edge as he picked up on Makko's grumbling. The corner of his mouth twitched into a smirk, knowing full well how to stoke the fire.

Valor leaned back, crossing his arms with exaggerated ease, clearly enjoying the moment. "What if I don't want to pair up?" he asked, his tone laced with mock defiance. It was clear he was putting on an act, perhaps deliberately demonstrating that he could be the most difficult person in the room to deal with. There was a gleam in his eye, as if he took great pleasure in turning the simple exercise into a challenge for the instructors—and maybe even for the other Padawans.

"Isn't handling people like me the whole point of this class?" Valor added, raising an eyebrow. His words hung in the air, half-serious, half-taunting, almost daring someone to prove him wrong.

"Isn't handling people like me the whole point of this class?"

"That's shockingly self aware," Roten sneered from further back. "At least you can admit you're a snot-nosed brat."

Roten hated having to got to classes. All of this just seemed like a waste of time when he could be out doing something better with his time, but he'd have to fight Matthew of Valendale Matthew of Valendale on that one. Matthew would kick his ass. So here he was, learning with the Jedi children. Demeaning, really. Now, in a class that was supposed to be about educate, it was pretty clear that one individual really didn't want to learn more than him.

At least Roten was going to try to give this stupid exercise a shot. This stupid kid acted like he was above it. Typical blue bloods.

"I'm sure you just love being irritating to no end," the Bursantian sighed, lounging in his chair. "That's the perfect attitude to get your ass thrown out a window when people can't stand you anymore. Perfect for negotiations I'm sure."

Valor had clearly struck a chord, and the faintest trace of amusement played across his lips as he rose from his seat with deliberate, almost leisurely ease. Without a word, he sauntered over to where Roten lounged, his posture radiating an air of superiority. He stopped just short of the Bursantian, glancing down at him with a look that could only be described as dismissive.

"Congratulations," Valor intoned, his voice dripping with mock civility. "I hereby grace you with the privilege of my presence."

His gaze swept over Roten in a slow, deliberate appraisal, as if sizing up someone beneath his notice. "You may address me as Valor," he continued, the haughtiness in his tone unmistakable. "And to whom," he added with a lilting, almost patronizing inflection, "do I owe the unexpected pleasure of this... acquaintance? Or would local rabble rousing riff-raff suffice? "

Valor's eyebrow arched slightly, as though he were awaiting a response that would prove either entertaining or unworthy of his time.

Roman sat on the edge of his seat in the bustling classroom, trying to drown out the myriad sounds of laughter, chatter, and the occasional teasing shout. He watched as fellow students filed in, each of them bursting with the energy of youth, a vortex of hormones and personalities that threatened to overwhelm his composure.

He watched as the teacher Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania scolded someone over to the side. She had a distinguised look about her, someone he felt could be the perfect one to teach this lesson. Yet, he thought it better to not be on her bad side as Aris Noble Aris Noble already seemed to be. He tried to straighten himself up in his seat to posture as he thought the class would teach, yet he didn't want to try too hard, worried he would be singled out.

Roman's head swiveled from side to side, taking in the scene. He had noted Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti as he had walked in, a kind wave and a smile to greet her. They had only recently met on Taris but she had a presence about her that was fascinating.

Stomping down the hallway could be heard as Anneliese Kaohal Anneliese Kaohal rushed her way into the classroom. Roman attempted to make slight eye contact, an offer of a warm greeting, but she was bound and determined to get to her seat in the back of the class. A conspicuous comment could be heard from her direction as he looked to see what she had spotted. He looked toward Aris, a skyscraper of a Padawan, in all of the commotion he hadn't noticed how tall he was. "Holy Chit" was right, he thought to himself.

More and more students entered the fray, some he had never seen before. One even looked like she had gone nine rounds with a Tauntaun. "What kind of temple was this?" his thoughts a maze of confusion.

The buzz of excitement kicked up again, and Roman's gaze darted across the room as he considered the combinations forming around him. Alliances were already being forged, and he noted who was gravitating toward whom. Overwhelmed, he waited to see who would be interested in grouping together with him. Roman didn't know what kind of problem he could play, but he could look around the room and see some of the students would relish the opportunity to play the part.

She felt a set of eyes come upon her, Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania , a small “oh damn” escaping her lips out of sheer nervousness realizing she’d must have heard her statement earlier upon having seen the jolly green giant that was now Aris. Lerting a groan out as he slumped her head down noting she’d stupidly let another word slip — fantastic. This must have clearly been the reason Val sent her to this class Anneliese thought to herself, she was too “refined” for her own good.

I want you all to group up now. Take turns. One of you will be playing the problem, be it a politician, a pirate, a thug, or generally someone uncooperative. Knight Ascania and I will travel about, give some pointers. Now, chop chop."

Anneliese perked up to attention as she heard instructions now being given to the class — her internal voice chiming in loudly as a slew of profane words that Master Noble had clearly express she not state in a public place came into mind as she imagined herself being a stubborn and uncooperative person — a mischievous grin crept all across her face, her enthusiasm at being bad mixing with her natural exuberance, this wasn’t a class, it was fixing to be a dangerous chemical component — one parts learning, one part profane, and too many parts paddies… what could possibly go wrong with that?

Looking around the room, she scanned. She wanted to ask Roman, for sure if he wanted to team up… not out of some vain desire to fawn over him… that’s just preposterous . Also, not just because she knew him and the two had spent time together… but for academic reasons, of course, academic, that was totally the reason. Nodding her head openly — agreeing with herself, odd… she proceeded to grabbing her bag and materials and walked over towards where Roman was. Moving past Zaiya Ceti Zaiya Ceti with a polite “excuse me” she tapped on Roman’s shoulder. “Hey Roman! You want to partner up with me… well, not just me, but with me— and, uh, other people?” Smooth Annelise — real smooth she grinned inwardly at herself, she’d nailed that encounter, for sure.

“Haha, hear that Roten. You can act like a pirate again. Though, I guess that isn’t really acting now is it?” The zeltron said before snickering in amusement. When his new legal guardian got him on board with the idea of being a jedi. This wasn’t what he had in mind. Jackie didn’t think he should be here, he was a zeltron, so he had natural charm others would die for.

After a moment Jackie reached into his jacket and pulled out a cigara pack he had hidden away. Knowing that Matthew was rather diligent in stealing all of his smokes. However, much to the pink teens' contempt, once he opened it and looked inside he gasped. Seeing that even his secret pack of cigaras had been tarnished and replaced with more of those lollipops Matthew of Valendale Matthew of Valendale kept pushing on him. “Ugh, what the frick, Mr Bird-brain got these too? He just takes away all my nice things.” Jackie said, in a dejected tone.

Pulling out one of the lolipops he unwrapped it and popped it into his mouth before leaning back in his chair and stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jacket. Wondering why he's ended up in this fancy pants psychic private school.

“Haha, hear that Roten. You can act like a pirate again. Though, I guess that isn’t really acting now is it?”

"Heyyyyy, can it Grease-Ball," Roten scoffed. "I ain't about that life no more, ya hear? Tryna set the record straight. You should get that... unless you weren't plannin on losing the cigs."

Roten stuffed his hands in his pockets, letting out a yawn as Valor began to ramble off some snobbish sounding chit. It seemed stupid and rude, so already they were failing in that regard. The Bursantian sighed, shrugging as he leaned back a little more in his seat.

"Yeah, you picked the wrong table for that act, buddy," he noted. "I ain't big on pinky over here, but we ain't on that high-end bullchit and all. Can't imagine you're makin' many mates with that attitude. But, in the spirit of being polite or whatever the feth, I'll let bygones be bygones and give you the benefit of the doubt or whatevers. Probably a chit ton less effort to chill and not have a blaster shoved up your ass."

He wasn't too conserned about the snobbish spat Valor was clearly trying to start anyways. It was rather childish, and Roten was above that. He was just here to get chit done so he could go home.

Zaiya's satisfied grin vanished the instant the Assistant Teacher fixed her with a pointed stare, his eyes narrowing as he made a remark about the ease with which her thoughts and emotions were broadcasted so easily across her expression. Her posture straightened at once, and her rosy golden hues flushed into bright coral spots and stripes that spread like wildfire down her neck and arms. Great. Not exactly the impression she'd been hoping to make. Karma, it seemed, had a twisted sense of humor.

"Oh, right. Of course, Master Calder,"
Zaiya stammered, her tone edged with the sting of embarrassment. She felt her colors shift as if she were a canvas that couldn't quite keep still -- her emotions playing out for all to see in glowing living kaleidoscope. Well, Aris would be able to dish out his own smirk her direction then.

She cast a glance around the room, noticing a few new Padawans that might just draw the teachers' attention away from her and Aris. Maybe luck was on her side, after all. Small wonders.

Okay, so we are supposed to group up now? Pairs? Larger groups? Zaiya's skin shimmered with confused greys and ambers, her spots shifting like restless stars. A redheaded girl breezed by, making a beeline for Roman.

Was she going to partner up with him? Zaiya didn't have time to wonder too much. She wasn't about to let this moment slip through her fingers.

Taking the initative, Zaiya raised her hand and asked the Ursine Etiquette Master, "If I may ask, Master Calder, how can I control my expressions when my emotions show up on my skin? Is there a way through the Force to help with that?"

It would be more than just handy -- it would be life-changing. Walking around like a glowing, holographic billboard of her feelings was more than just embarrassing; it was a dead giveaway in situations where subtlety mattered -- or when, she didn't want to end up a glowing coral embarrassed flustered thing.

There wasn't a lot in the archives about Lovalla; they were too rare, their culture and biochemistry still mostly unknown. But maybe, just maybe, Knight von Ascania and the Ursine Master might have some insight that could help her. It was worth a shot, right?

Carlo had positioned himself towards the back of the classroom—not out of any sense of aloofness, but purely because it decreased the likelihood of being caught indulging in what could only be described as a rather decadent late breakfast. In front of him sat a large mug of tea and, perhaps more audaciously, an entire red velvet cake.

As he carefully brewed his tea—yes, he had indeed brought an entire kettle—Carlo's attention wavered between ensuring he didn't scald himself and half-listening to the lecture. From what he gathered, the lesson centered on etiquette, a topic that brought back memories of his own upbringing.

Finally taking a sip from his cup, the sweet aroma washed over him, momentarily distracting him from his thoughts. A curious notion crossed his mind—these classes seemed to serve as a form of supplemental education for the younger Padawans, perhaps to make up for what they might have missed before joining the Order. It was something to ponder, as Carlo absentmindedly took a bite of his cake.

"You seem to be thinking it the wrong way, Padawan Ceti. Just as a Jedi learns to hide a glare, they learn to not feel that hate or let that hate rule them. Even when dealing with something like slavers, we must keep our focus level. Act despite our emotions, not on them. Alongside them. Focus on keeping calm, and your colorings will follow suit."

The Large Beorni gave Zaiya a simple nod and bow of his head. There was nothing in the Force that would hide her emotions that he knew of, but he was far more spiritual in his teachings and training than anything else. He patted her shoulder as he stepped by, his gaze on a different group entirely. The group that didn't want to be here.

With a smile he took a seat by them, laying out the heavy Icehammer he carried on the table. It was as large as Roten's torso, and chilling to just be around. He took a seat in one of the chairs which very much creaked under his weight as the ten foot bear settled on it.

"I believe it would be ideal to start with not swearing. Since you all seem so accustomed to being the rude one, I'll play that. And you be the Jedi, mm?"
