At present this applies to all alchemical or genetically modified species, regardless of origin. An option for older spevies could be their discovery/hunting, to show how they work in roleplay. Offhand the Sand Kraken has a dev thread like this. I'd link, but I'm on the phone. Fairly recent submission.

Alright, thank you.

As I already have a dev thread, this does not really affect me, but I would like to ask a question about it regardless.

A new template was released for the creation of restricted material locations a while ago, which is awesome. But it also says that you need to do development to establish a mine according to the amount of resources you can mine from it.

"Amount: (the amount will determine whether a dev thread is required. For Codex submitted planets this amount may not exceed what was approved on the original planet submission.)

  • Small: Allows for production of unique and semi-unique items only.
  • Medium: Requires a dev thread of 10 posts and may be used for production of unique, semi-unique, and limited items.
  • Large: Requires a dev thread of 20 posts or more (at Judge’s discretion) and is for production of unique, semi-unique, limited, or minor. "

My question, then, is... isn't this a bit redundant? I can understand having to do development for a new planet when you introduce another flow of a restricted/rare material to the Galaxy. But a mine has to be established on a world that already -has- this restricted material (either through canon or by already doing development). Yet, making this mine does not equate to free restricted materials.

You still gotta do the restricted material objective or do a suitably large dev thread doing the mining, before you can actually -use- the restricted material from your mine in a submission.

I can understand asking development when you add a ton of defenses and the sort, but this seems a touch strange to me personally.

The development requirement is placed as a stop-gap to keep people from plopping down RM mines willy-nilly without any form of development for the means. Many of the planets containing RM are within the influence cloud of major factions or other governing groups. The point of development is not to stand as punishment, but to implore that people interact with other members of the forum, engage in meaningful story, and put effort into the things that will ultimately pay out for them.

Keep in mind that your first development thread for establishing the mine could also count towards the dev thread requirement for whatever it is you intend to submit to Factory. Then even if you have completed a dev thread already for your factory sub that also details the Mine itself, it could be used.

We will not be dropping the required dev for establishing RM mines.

Tide Bringer (Protector of Mon Cala)
Hello everyone, I have just recently joined Star Wars Chaos and I am anxious to start roleplaying. As of now I am trying to make a species submission for my dream character. The species is going to be almost a Bipedal Dolphin race, similar to the one shown in my profile picture, however I am having a difficult time thinking of a name. I was originally going to call them Dolphinarians but I'm not sure if that sounds good... could anyone give me some ideas?

It's perfectly fine as a concept.

Whatever you want to call it a long as it's nothing inappropriate. I usually think of a planet name first then name the species after the planet.

[member="TD.7795"] Why not call them 'Cetaceans'? That speaks to the sub-order nomenclature for a Dolphin.

EDIT: actually, having looked it up, I found this. It may actually serve your purposes.
[member="Tirdarius"] You know I remember a character some years back who was an orca, possibly of this species who was a Jedi turned Sith. His name escapes me right now but I asked him once if there was a shark equivalent and mentioned that some of them do look shark-like. Kind of mauling over the idea of a Hammerhead character as it is my favorite species of shark. Any ideas if that may be a possibility or if a new species may be required?

The word you were looking for is 'mulling' over, by the by. Mauling is not a good thing :p At any rate, provided such a race has no special abilities or racial traits beyond looking like a shark, you could probably fit that in there. There's very little canonical info, and that tends to be a grey area often exploited accordingly. That said, you could always submit a 'racial addition' submission to add that to the existing race, since it's not mentioned one way or the other, and expanding on what is canonical will help other writers on the board.

Stupid question, it's stated in the Codex, in fact in the NPC Creation thread itself.

What's the maximum number of personnel one could submit in an NPC Unit?

I've seen high numbers into the hundreds but it's stated that the NPC Codex submission isn't the place to submit an "Army". By looking at the numbers in some submissions, It would seem the term "Army" is somewhat ambiguous. I do understand some of the submissions were likely made before the current template was adopted but what exactly is the upper limit for a submitted NPC "Unit" (Squad sized? Company sized? Battalion sized?)

Thanks!

EDIT:

Sorry if this is misplaced, also just checked and realized this may fit/belong better here: http://starwarsrp.net/topic/32930-npc-creation-faq-questions/

You can give high numbers for the totals.

However, primarily you must give company sized units. That is what you're submitting. The rest is just showing how many of this unit you can have.

Companies have a maximum size of 250, but usually less. Vehicles are assumed to be worth 10 infantry, so vehicle companies are 25 or less.

Higher quality units will always be smaller than lower.

Thanks [member="Tirdarius"] Looking forward to the idea. Here are a couple Pictures of what I was thinking.

These were Sharks I made years ago in SPORE as I am fascinated with the idea of having Anthropomorphic Shark Species.

Then there is this guy here whom I just love. Sorry image is a bit large so have to put it in Spoiler Tags

The character you are thinking of is Darth Orcus AKA Hion the Herglic
