Whoa, calm down! :p

Many of us had mixed feelings when the EU was considered non-canon but I would say there's no need to pump up with hatred before the seventh episode comes out and then see if Disney made a terrible mistake or a fantastic decision. ;)

That title is total hyperbole.

While it sucks that we're losing some great stuff from cannon, it's a good call from Disney. The Star Wars EU is a complete mess. The future of Star Wars would be worse if they were beholden to the post-episode 6 stuff. A clean slate is the best way.

Would've loved if they'd used some of it (i.e., looks like we're not getting Thrawn so far ;-; ), but I agree that Legacy and a lot of the NJO/NR stuff got seriously fucked up over the years.

But, um, yeah... you need to calm down about it a little. Reactionary posts aren't as much of a thing here as Reddit or stuff like that.

Y'all seen movies like thr Avengers? Yeah, those wicked cool action movies that DISNEY made?

I think Disney will do just fine with Star Wars. After all, wouldnt be hard to top the past few movies Lucas produced.

DISNEY made?
Just because I know this to be false, going to go ahead and state that Marvel was given full autonomy on the Avengers project, Disney was only involved in payroll and what-not.

On the other hand, Disney has a record of always releasing blockbuster hits (discounting the latest animated movie released during the worst time of the year to release movies).

The EU will really only die if you choose to let it die.

I mean - it's no different than what Marvel or DC does to be completely honest.

Earth-616, Earth-1928361, Earth-XXX*@&092736.

Just a thought.

I like the EU, but honestly there is a lot of contradiction in there and even in the movies itself.

Episode 1: The opening scrolling text states "Two Jedi Knights" have been dispatched to settle the dispute. Everyone knows, or should know, that Padawans (Obi-Wan) are not Knights. EU has been around long enough that even Lucas himself should know better.

Episode 1: At the funeral of Qui-gon, Yoda and Mace talk about the Rule of Two, "There is always two, a Master and an Apprentice." Yet earlier in the film they say, "The Sith haven't been around for a thousand years." And if anyone has read the Darth Bane trilogy, you will know steps were taken to prevent exposure to the Jedi. So which of these two statements am I to believe, The Jedi DO KNOW the Sith are around and about the Rule of Two or they BELIEVE the Sith have not been seen for a thousand years.

I can pick apart a lot discrepancies between the movie dialogue in the 1-3 and in the books but I don't because I LOVE star wars. As for Disney, well since I and about 100% of the other fandom nerds didn't have a say in what they did, we either accept it or we don't. I still use the EU in my threads and refer to them still, Disney may have bought the rights....but they didn't buy me. :)

A silly over reaction.

Tell me in 4 months what you think of the movie once it’s out.

Until then there’s nothing to base this on.

Besides, it’s not like Lucas and the old regime was a bastion of ultra-good things. Many people hated some or all the prequels, they released crappy stuff and good things too.

Wait and see before frothing up.

Also important to remember that Disney acquires a lot of companies like Lucas Films and then just lets them do their own thing with little to no interference:
  • Pixar - Consistently produces off-the-charts animated films.
  • ESPN - Consistently... sportsball
  • ABC - Consistently produces great TV shows.. sort of
  • Marvel Entertainment - Consistently produces phenomenal material.
The difference between those brands now vs before Disney acquired them? They are owned by Disney.

So, what is different about Lucas Films and the Star Wars Franchise? It's now owned by Disney. The EU was a mess that needed to be cleaned up. Now Star Wars and Lucas Films will go back to managing themselves.

Yeah Disney hasn't ever really had a hand in any of the real work for things they take over.

Avengers credit goes to Whedon and Marvel.

If star wars 7 turns out great I give credit to Abrams.

Tbh though I hate they removed the EU too. I have a very strong reaction as well since I grew up on it. Do I think its all good? No, there was a lot one could consider filler and some that was bad writing.

Do I think Disney should stick to it 100% no.

Do I think Disney is a bunch of jerkoffs for removing nearly all of it? Yes, definitely. Some of it is being salvaged though, what is being kept so far is unsure, but most of the Old Republic remains Canon thanks to LucasArts work. Things like Kotor and things relating to Darth Bane are canon because of TOR and the Clone Wars animated show being Canon, which disney cannot change. Since the Old Republic is the most important Canon for me in the EU I'm mostly ok in the end.

I will cry if we don't see some form of Pallaeon in the new trilogy though.

I'm pretty sure they are because TOR is an ongoing project of LucasArts and Disney can't call it non-canon without discontinuing the game. Which they won't.

Which means by extension Kotor, since Revan is tied into TOR from the Kotor story, is canon.

Its common sense.

Then as of right now I'm going on indefinite LOA because I dunno how I can handle that. The only way I ever consoled myself with the bulls*hit of Disney messing with the EU was because they couldn't touch Kotor and a majority of the Old Republic. So I was able to roleplay with a piece of mind that there was some canon backing up my work still that others couldn't discredit me for.

I agree one hundred percent with the Original Poster of this thread now.

Disney can and should karking go rot in hell because just because they buy a license does not mean they should have the karking right to wipe out decades of work and history everyone grew up on and a lot of which is better than the hacks at disney are capable of.

Its like someone going and buying the Harry Potter License and rewriting all the books and remaking the movies. No one would be happy about that so why is it ok now.

The people making new Star Trek movies knows what they're doing. They didn't erase everything did they?

No they made an alternate Timeline. Disney? They karking ruin everything they karking touch.

Am I saying the new movies will be bad btw though? No, but I am saying Disney is the pinnacle of iconic money grubby fuckery that makes a bad company, and the only reason they get away with it is because they made money back when they were actually a tad wholesome.
