Does the Real World around you know you are a Nerd....and RP?

Family knows. A chunk of my IRL friends know, mostly people with whom I've played D&D, Catan, or 13th Age (my tabletop of choice). Work/grad school folks, hahahhahanope. It's come up a couple of times as "yeah, I helped run a...forum for teaching kids how to write" and/or "collaborative writing."

Yeah. Political science major. Sue me.

My roommates know I RP - I've bullshitted with them about my plans and projects on this very board, or characters I've / I want to make. Given how one is a cartoonist and both of them are nerdy as hell, this isn't really anything odd so much as par for the course, and I've listened to them go on about warhammer aspirations, Diamond league dreams in LoL, and upcoming beta tests. The DOTA 2 championships were like playoffs and superbowl at my house, we invited a bunch of buddies over for wings, beer, and yelling at the TV (Which was hooked up to a laptop, naturally)

Most of those friends would have been coming over to play tabletop games, LAN stuff, drink while streaming movies or play Cards Against Humanity anyway. They're pretty nerdy.

My family knows I'm a nerd, but they don't know about the RP. Mom knows I do a lot of hobby writing, and I've talked about collaborative writing and round robin storytelling with her before. Over t years, she's provided a lot of insights for me in terms of playing women in general. Dad wouldn't get it if I spent hours trying to explain how it works, and wouldn't care if he did understand. He knows I'm a nerd, though. Mom corrects my pronunciation of names from Lord of the Rings and can write in Elvish.

My little brother is a COD-flavored Nerd (more of a 'bro' than anything else, but a benign one) and would likely understand if I talked to him about it, but I haven't.

Nope. People are VERY surprised when I tell them. Around acquaintances and friends I'm known as a regular dude with an okay haircut, plain t-shirts and a decent sense of humour. The fact that I even have a hobby likely surprises some people.

And where were the spiders
its my number one pick up line.

Actually, I do tell people a bit, like I don't 'game' this is my gaming. But its only an aspect of who I am, so, some know, some don't.

My family and friends know, since I live with my parents and brother and have bought lightsabers and Jedi robes before now. My best friend knows I write on here and to other people I say I write stories about characters with a group of people.

yep I sort of let anyone know... also admitting to then being staff on said site makes it even more interesting of a conversation . But everyone most likely knows how much of a nerd I am.

Does your family know? Lol no. Hell no. Absolutely not.

Do your co-workers know? I don't work :3 I'm in school.

Do your friends know? Some do. I actually do private RPs on like Google Docs with them.

Does your significant other know your deep dark secret? Well. She did. Then she broke up with me. I'm pretty sure it's unrelated though.

Gracious no! Well... Yes AND no, I have a small group of friends who know that I freeform RP in this genre but they're the ones who I guild with on SWTOR so it's not exactly an obscure thing to them.

My family only knows that I like to write, but beyond that, nada.

As an expanded answer;
My family knows I talk to people on the internet, even going halfway around the world to meet some of them. Exactly who they are or what they do or what I do is left vague. At least they've stopped intimating that all people on the internet are secretly murderers.
Though with the people here I'm not so sure.... :p

Nope, In now way are we murderers *hides chainsaw*

I would say we are just slightly delusional.

My family doesn't know, nor would they really care, I think. I'm not gonna just walk out into the kitchen and cry out that I write Star Wars in my spare time. If they find out, they find out. :p

I've mentioned it to my friends and band mates a few times, and their response was what I expected: Meh. As for my significant other, well... she's what made me come here in the first place. ;)

I don't find it such a big deal, really. It's just me living out my Star Wars fantasies through writing, is all. :)
