Faction Direction

Hey guys, so I have to exciting propositions for you about the direction of The Republic, because I do not want to keep it as is.

I do not, however, want to make this decision solely because 'It's my faction, and I can'. Because it's not my faction, it's yours. I'm one writer, and you guys keep the flow going!

SO! That said, following this post are the two directions I'm deeply considering but I need a majority vote before I work out the details. Please consider the implications each will have on you -- and ultimately, vote for the one that makes you want to write.

If you have questions/comments, I'll field them here or in a PM.

This vote will end on November 7, 00:00PST.

Option 1: The Galactic Alliance

What is the Galactic Alliance?
The Galactic Alliance is a coalition between the Omega Protectorate, the Galactic Republic, and the Jedi Order designed to bring about galactic peace, security, and prosperity.

Why?
The decision to merge The Galactic Republic and The Omega Protectorate stemmed from the magnitude of The One Sith's threat to the galaxy, and the realization that neither government could thwart the oppressors on their own. It is the final stand against the tyrannical government, and the definitive representation of choice throughout the galaxy.

So What's Changing?

Very little is actually changing. On an OOC level, we'll continue to function as per the norm; doing dominions, invasions, faction threads, etc. Just with a larger member base.

ICly, not much is truly changing beyond surface tweaks. The Galactic Senate will still be the primary legislative body within the Galactic Alliance. Senators will still be elected from each major star system that means the requirements for Senate representation.

One change is the inclusion of the Councilor rank, which sits between the High Councilor (Formerly the Supreme Chancellor) and the Senator. These few are basically regional governors who are responsible for ensuring that trivial matters do not burden the Senate. They possess very limited military authority, mostly to the extent of being able to request military aid in matters, though this is not always granted.

Magistrate and Observer are added as judicial analogs to Senators and Representatives should people be interested in that.

Mission
OOC: To provide the currently existing member base with more potential for activity.

IC: To create a stronger opposition against The One Sith threat that is plaguing the galaxy.

Execution/Structure
GARanks.png

Government: Triumvirate (Lord Protector (Military), High Councilor (Civilian), Jedi Grandmaster (Jedi))

The Lord Protector oversees all military matters including but not limited to research and development, troop and naval deployment, planetary defenses and, when necessary, war coordination. The Lord Protector does not have authority to deploy military assets against domestic targets without first gaining the approval of the High Councilor and Jedi Grandmaster.

The High Councilor oversees all civilian matters such taxation, creating and passing new legislation, and social welfare. The High Councilor does not have authority to order military personnel to do anything without first gaining the approval of the Lord Protector and Jedi Grandmaster.

The Jedi Grandmaster oversees the governing of the Jedi Order within the Galactic Alliance. They do not possess any innate military, legislative, or judicial power except where specifically granted and outlined by the Lord Protector and/or High Councilor. The Grandmaster functions as a mediator between the Lord Protector and High Councilor to ensure that the balance of power remains intact and to offer the tie-breaking vote when needed.

Option 2: The Republic Falls
&Rebellion Era Begins

Why?
The Republic has lost a lot of IC territory at the hands of The One Sith, and many ranks have been corrupted by their Oracle and methodologies.

So What’s Changing?
The idea is that The One Sith attack Anaxes in the coming month, and give it everything they’ve got. Vong, spaceships, etcetera. And The Republic hits back with everything they can to defend their capital — fleeting in this thread will be included if desired. This thread will be a pretedermined win for The One Sith. Having the stress of winning or losing via PvP will allow us as writers to focus on developing stories within this thread.

Characters will die, babies will be born (Avalore Eden???), it’ll be an epic.

Once Anaxes falls and is turned to rubble, The Republic will be defeated. The influence cloud on the map will be severely reduced and dominated by The One Sith — therefore forcing The Republic to turn into an underground force with no territory. Essentially becoming The Rebel Alliance.

Mission
It’s essential to understand that this idea focuses on a single thread, and relies on you, the writers of the faction, to come together to form a wicked rebellion afterwords, dedicated in flipping the tables of Chaos once again in favour of democracy.

Darn you messing it up. Anyways, how come there isn't a... "Remain the Republic and fight back against the sith..." Option... to be completely honest. This laying down and dying attitude is karking bullpoodoo.

Edit:

[2:28:54 AM] The Shade of the Past: We could do so much more, do mock training stuff
[2:29:00 AM] The Shade of the Past: Do stuff to upgrade planets
[2:29:15 AM] The Shade of the Past: Try and pull in support not just from majors but minors too
[2:29:18 AM] The Shade of the Past: Hire Mercs
[2:29:23 AM] The Shade of the Past: A ton of stuff
[2:29:27 AM] The Shade of the Past: Sure it will be hard
[2:29:42 AM] The Shade of the Past: But its worth it in the end to see the republic remain what it was meant to be

Plus as Some one said while i was talking to him. "Protectorate would have to vote as well. Their members left the republic because of your actions and now you want to force them to be with you again. You are going to damage their faction as much as your damaged our."

The point is, we can try more to keep us going...

I've been looking forward to a 'Jedi Purge' as it were. I've never had the chance to RP in one, and I find it the most fascinating part of Star Wars history.

Is that posted in the last 30 days OOC or IC? Also if it is IC would it have to at least be in faction threads? Sorry for the questions just though I seen something that could be cleared up a bit so no none is confused.

Well I knew there was talk about the merger with the OP, but I definitely hadn't heard rumor of a rebellion.

Both are great ideas. Rendili Stardrive will continue to support the government whichever way it goes, whether we build ships for the GA or we run as the yards of the Rebellion we'll stay the course.

[member="Aleister Grey"] I understand this character is new, and I've seen Theodosius posting in OOC threads recently.

They can be non-faction threads, so long as your character and you are aligned w/ The Republic in some way. I'll be double checking. I just want to know activity and who will actually contribute to the above ideas.

So either lose our identity or write an interesting story. Each of them good but I still think the OSroute has been left somewhat lacking when it comes to the explanation of what happens to each subpart of the Republic.

For example what of the order and the senate?

From what I have read of the IC thread between the OP and the Republic I don’t think the Jedi Order or the Senate. The Jedi Order is not a government ran institution to begin with. The OP is talking about becoming apart of a democratic government. Without the Senate we would no longer be a democratic government.

I like both ideas. I just do not like the idea of [member="Avalore Eden"] dying. :(

[member="Kiskla Grayson"]
This is absurd. This is not a fair choice, it's an ultimatum.

So we either merge with OP, inheriting their limited member base and more territory to defend, or we auto-lose.

This is ridiculous on so many levels. Just like the Sith Empire's 'return to the shadows' nonsense, there is no reason for this. Oh, I'm sure people THINK this will be cool and happy and fun, but it won't be. The Sith Empire collapse was a means for the One Sith to get rid of people they didn't like.

And why become a Rebellion? Even if Anaxes was taken in a fair fight, the Republic is the largest faction on the map. We're not being beaten, and I fail to see how being a 'rebellion' would help? We'd still be a major faction as a Rebellion, subject to attack, or a minor faction Rebellion with no ability to damage the Sith.

Besides, how does inheriting the problems and issues of OP guarantee that this will be a new and shiny golden age? OP only just passed check in last month. Will 8 extra writers (some of which are in the Republic already mind) really make us magically better?

I want a third option: "Stay as we are and fight." Or is the faction leadership so desperate that they have no other idea but to throw in the towel?

Sleeps all day.... yawns all night
You know I was content not to say anything but frak it. This needs to be said cause [member="Aurelia Saelari"] is right and since this thread came up we have been ranting and laughing about it. Because this is absurd, you leave out the choice most would pick hopefully in favor of rolling over because your decisions and actions led to driving your members away to other factions. you are choosing the path of least effort after all that work of people picking you for faction leader because you were going to offer a new direction for the faction.

What they believed was going to be good stories about fighting the evils has simply become a way out of actually formulating a plan or trying to motivate your members. I said it several times, I will always say it we can stand and fight. Yes we got hit and we have been hit hard we have had leadership running members off whose opinions are different, argumentative leadership who run and make others leave. We have lost invasions... and? We have lost them before we are going to lose them in the future also.

The Republic is the largest faction on the map and you want to get rid of it because what? Because it worked out so well for the Sith... It only worked out well because its leaders took what they used in the Republic (an open faction with ideas and member support) and practiced to get better. They helped make the Republic siccessful by caring about their people instead of folding at the first sign they might have to give some effort. Yes you have done a great job organizing the faction boards, there are some great members, there are some interesting stories.

Our stories mean little when all it takes to lose is the Sith taking two Planets, Coruscant and Alderaan are famous but they are not end of the world. Them taking Anaxas is not end of the world. You move the capital, you work to try and retake what was lost and actually make friends instead of expecting everyone to fall in line with you. You expected what? Everyone would follow your script and jump at the chance to invade the One Sith?

No they wouldn't because the same reasons why the One Sith are so popular is the same reason why some potential allies don't even think about helping. OOC attitude. Merging with the OP is going to actually damage them as a faction, more then likely because a number of their members left the republic, were run off the republic. Now you want to force them to have to follow you again? They'd leave that faction and you'd gain maybe a small handful of the few who don't mind.

So option one actually hurts two factions, the few who don't want a merger and leave or just stop posting. While option two of just folding and becoming a rebellion makes little to no sense. We have to much territory and losing one world if it took that to destroy the Republic then shame. Even the Empire held out for awhile after Palpatine died. We need the third option of actually choosing to write our stories, actually choosing to stand and make something of a stand that can show the Republic has some pride.

[member="Memorial"] has soem good ideas, [member="Aurelia Saelari"] is on the money for this. If you can't do that and have already thrown in the towel then I suggest new leadership and someone who actually cares about the faction. Yes I am sure you care deep down but that only goes to when it is doing good, when it gets tough you'd rather we fold and give up. Yeah I said I wanted the sith to win, yeah I admit it freely and why because the more they won hopefully the quicker we would get to having a new leadership that could try something new.

Because the new direction was failing hard. I can admit it, I can be proud of it because in all of this you tagged me for this thread and I have dedicated nearly a year to this faction. Seeing it go away would be sad after all the work that went into trying to save it. Another thing I have said many times and will say still. Trent/[member="Selena Halcyon"] might have been an A-hole but he saved this faction, be brought it back from the brink and suggested a merger like this when the Republic was at its height. Joshua Dragonsflame tried to keep that vision and failed.

Now it has come here and the Republic is about to fall again after nearly a year of surviving. Trent might not have been the most popular leader but he was the most effective, he worked to make sure the Republic was a place people wanted to be. You and Popo sure were the more popular leaders but you drove the republic into the ground and have brought it to the brink where there is now a choice between either possibly killing two factions or killing the largest because you don't want to try and save it.

And I voted for 2 in absence of a third option, the Republic if it is going to fall should not endanger the Protectorate by forcing itself on them and possibly driving some of its members off who dislike the Republic. Like I said you tagged me in this thread and here i am going into rant mode because I saw the Sith Empire do this the major difference was they actually had a plan beyond "wouldn't it be a cool story" by building the One Sith and preparing them to come back.

Even though I was not tagged or given a vote in this matter I am going to speak my mind anyway.

I am of the same mind as [member="Memorial"] and [member="Aurelia Saelari"].

Both of these options are complete and total crap. Either we destroy the spirit of a faction that a fair number of writers are desperately trying to light a fire under despite the loss of a few battles or we admit defeat and hand the entire thing over to the enemy.

This brings up the question of if you didn't want this Faction why did you agree to take over it instead of letting somebody who wants to actually try and turn this around take up the reigns.

Instead of as Aurelia putting it throwing in the towel how about we rebuild the OOC structure with some, not a but some, admins who want to keep fighting the good fight. Then those said admins focusing on three major section, one per admin, work with the player base of the Senate, the military, and the jedi both OOC and IC to coordiniate and provide what is needed to keep this faction back to what it could and should be.

Like I said I realize my opinion does mean jack but what the ever loving heck kind of first action is disolving a faction you just took over.

I know this is going to sound bull headed and piss some people off but on November 8 when either one of these options goes into effect I will pull both my characters.

I will start up my own minor faction based on the Republic concept if that is what it takes to be able to have what this faction could and should be.

[member="Torill Holgor"] meet [member="Memorial"] he has the same idea and you are going to need ship here meet [member="Camellia Swift"]. Have an experienced politician (former supreme chancellor) meet [member="Aurelia Saelari"]. Three more unique members and eventually you could go major after 30 days and push for being the New Republic. If this goes through you'll even have all that space as a merger doesn't give all planets to the protectorate and going away means there will be plenty of space. I'd choose somewhere you can't be surrounded. Leave Ossus for the Silver Jedi and make friends... actually try and make friends with them.

Rendili ships?

; w ;

I have been wanting to design a Light SD with a light dev thread to make it good, what with us having no Watts class anymore and the Sith Darkblades being a major threat. Along with other ships recently being produced by others it seems.

To be honest I'm not sure what's best or what will work and honestly I still feel bad I had to duck out of the Alderaan invasion. But I do agree there should probably have been a 3rd option to stay and fight. I think a merger or rebellion tactic would work well i we lost another 1/3 of the territory we have.

Also because I realized Rendili would be in danger if the Republic vanished or merged. . . .

The Admiralty
First of all when you are voicing your opinion have some respect. We aren't in kindergarden here and statings things like: "these options are full of crap." ain't how you deal with a discussion.

Second of all, we aren't losing? We lost every invasion there was, except the Carida one because of a technicality. The Faction has had a decline in activity across the board, continuing this trend.

Looking at what has happened before, looking at the activity of the members and then looking at what the One Sith brings to the table in capital-grade military capacity? We would have to be extremely lucky if we want to win.

So here's what we can do.

We can either merge with OP, which is a strange option if you ask me - considering the way they handle thing.
We can either do one more thread, focus only on story and go out with a bang and then focus on little, excellent storyplots revolving under a Rebellion.

Or we can decide to let this 'war' drag on for another half a year, trying to hold onto some fictional territory people dominioned ages ago.

We are here for story, we ain't here to dance to the tune of the huge swat of land the Republic managed to acquire over the year.
