Fears about Episode 7

First line in the second article: "This might be total BS." :p

Really, best not to worry about it so much. There are plenty of people who didn't like the prequels, which is fine. And maybe the movie will be really good! Or great! Or totally awesome!

Probably not awesome. But hey, a lot of people didn't like the prequels. If we don't like this new film, we can just be like them and complain ignore it. In my opinion, Star Wars is what we make of it anymore. :)

I would highly, highly doubt that they are going to use any Expanded Universe characters in the movies. They said that they wanted to start from a clean slate more or less.

Someone should update IMDB and put "Ben Skywalker" next to John Boyega's name just to watch all the neurotic fans fly into a frenzy.

According to the sources, the rumor mill is churning hard about the Jedi Hunters.

I'm inclined to believe it, since they said they were going a whole new direction.

They're claiming too that Luke will be killed in Episode VIII

Of course, that is speculation. Not that I care if he is, we all know their too old to act anymore and the EU has been branded useless to the cash cow hungry individuals at Disney.

? Explain. How does being old make them worse actors? Was Sir Alec Guinness a bad actor?

I don't get this criticism. As if George Lucas wasn't cash hungry? I don't think the EU was deemed useless for its inability to turn a dollar. It was more that staying within the confines of the EU would have made it impossible for any director to create a unique Star Wars series that makes sense by itself and also fits within the timeline, which is also difficult given the age of the actors. No director would want to simply re-tell the EU stories in movie form, because most would probably make pretty bad movies. Besides, I don't think most fans would even want them to simply make sequels out of the books. Imagine if they turned the Yuuzhan Vong books into the next sequel trilogy. Already a divisive move in itself because not every Star Wars fan liked those books. The closest the EU got to a viable "sequel" to the movies that everyone generally appreciated was the Thrawn Trilogy, and the actors are way too old for that now.

The best option was to start from a clean slate. You can have the EU or you can have new movies. In the end something had to give.

The EU has been deemed USELESS in the eyes of Disney beyond reference. Read up on it.

Just because you agree with the clean slate, I don't. I'm not arguing what someone else put, you can go to their websites and argue about the age of actors with them. *shrugs*

I had something all nice and typed up. I'm not arguing with you.

How about the fact that Harrison Ford is 72..when this is done he'll be pushing 74. You're running risk of Heart Attacks, Strokes, more broken bones and such.

So Episode VIII, 74-76, Episode IX, 77-79.

Sir Alec Guinness played Obi-Wan Kenobi at the age of 63...not 72.

I know. I just explained why.

Why not? That's why they call this a 'discussion forum'.

You're talking as if acting is a contact sport. They have stunt doubles for a reason.

And...?

Is there some age limit on acting now? Once you hit 70 you're officially a useless geriatric? I guess Sir Christopher Lee shouldn't have appeared in the prequels at all then.

If he had a stunt double, then he wouldn't have broken his ankle that required surgery? I don't know, I wasn't there.

Because It's opinions that don't change fact. Disney is out for money and new blood, they don't care what we like. I think it would have been neat to see more than a floating CGI head in his place :D

I'm not too worried about this movie because Abrams and other writers have actually been hands on with the original script Lucas wrote for these episodes... and have re-written it. Abrams, though he missed his mark with Star Trek: Into Darkness, is a huge fan of Star Wars (The Original Trilogy), so I have actually kind of think we'll be okiebunnies!

*Nods n' sits on haunches. Hangs tongue out n' wags bunner tail*

It sounded like a freak accident caused by some set malfunction. I don't even think he was filming an action scene at the time. He's also fine now.

Acting is not a dangerous job.

You can base your opinion on fact, and then we can have a discussion. Or we can just talk in circles and not actually discuss anything at all, y'know whatever works.

I actually agree with the rabbit.

...Never thought I'd hear myself say that.

There's no reason to panic yet. Star Wars fans should be overjoyed that we get new movies on the big screen again.

Actually, lemme correct this statement. I really don't care if they did or did not make another Star Wars movie. I cared about Star Wars 1313 and other neat projects and the EU.

DO I want to see something fresh and new away from the EU? Not really, why? Because I have my reasons.

Like you have yours of wanting to see a completely fresh idea of no New Republic, no this or whatever.

Some people work differently than others. It's like I said, I would have loved to seen Thrawn come to life on the big screen...

I wouldn't have minded seeing the Thrawn Trilogy adapted into movies, or used as the basis for a trilogy. But it's just not feasible.

I don't necessarily hate the EU. There is some EU material that I like. But I don't mind it being scrapped either, because it means we get new movies. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I really don't see why people are so up in arms over the whole Expanded Universe.

IT WAS NEVER CANON.

You can easily google George Lucas and Lucasarts PR saying this themselves. Everything in the EU has always been non-canon, as Lucas himself said "Only my movies are canon". This was said while he was making Clone Wars episodes and everything. Who cares, they're still good books. Some of them. Sometimes. The Thrawn Trilogy at least.

Let's just forget the Yhuuzon Vong ever happened.

@A Bunny
I’m liking this rabbit more and more! :p

The EU was a mess. Written over 23 years with dozens of different writers, in many different mediums it contradicted, messed up and generally got confusing. The Thrawn books were great but so much in them has been retconned that reading them is sort of like reading a different universe.

Getting rid of them all from the current canon and having a new canon was the only possible move to make.

After all, if we set a move in 35ABY with the old continuity we’d be at the end of the Vong War, and how would THAT be explained? No, best to start off afresh.

We’ll see whether JJ Abrams can make it happen.
