Getting Out of a Fowl Mood (Skylar)

Jan VonFowl

Jan grinned again, squeezing Skylar's hand as she got up from the floor. It was really fun to watch her blush when he complimented her. At least he was fairly sure that he hadn't actually made her feel embarrassed.

"Missed you too, Sky."

When she kissed him on the cheek, he smiled jokingly at her.

"I'll get on the computer and get us some room service. Maybe some music, too. Having you step on my feet was fun."

Jan was teasing her, and they both knew it. Sky had done pretty well her first time dancing. And, of course, dancing without shoes on carried less risk. He took his boots off and let his sock-clad feet feel the carpeting... Wow, it'd been a long time since he'd been in a real hotel.

Sky hummed a little tune as she washed her face and pulled on a set of modest and comfy PJs. She brushed her hair again and came back out, sitting on the bed and watching Jan as he was on the computer. When she tired of that, Sky went out onto the small balcony and leaned over it, staring out at the city above and below, deep in thought. She was barefoot which made her even shorter than she originally was, but she didn't mind. Sky liked being barefoot.

Jan sighed and pushed his hair out of his face as he realized that Skylar had left the spot where she'd been sitting on the bed. He really had tunnel-visioned a little bit when he went on the computer. And, well, he was hungry, so food was also a big reason that he'd been staring at the holo-screen so intently. Now, he folded the computer up and put it aside, walking out to the balcony. It was just barely big enough for the two of them to stand on.

"Nice view, huh?"

His hand reached for Sky's almost unconsciously, smiling at her a little bit.

"Yea.." Sky sighed as Jan's hand gently grasped her's. She leaned into Jan's chest, feeling the warmth.

"I wish this moment would last forever." Then her stomach grumbled, moment shattered. Oops.. Nevermind, she had forgotten that they both probably needed food at some point.

"You hungry? 'Cause I think I may be."

Jan chuckled at the sound of Skylar's belly grumbling. His did the same, now, and he squeezed her hand again before leading her back into the room.

"We'll just have to have another moment after dinner, huh?"

Of course, room service wasn't exactly timed to their hunger.

"Okay." Sky let Jan lead her back into the room. By the time their dinner got to the door their stomachs were having a roaring contest, and Sky accepted the food eagerly from the person who brought it up and tipped him

The meal was delicious.

Jan practically wolfed down his food. It was good, but he could barely taste anything after a couple of days not eating much more than alcohol and the occasional sandwich. In the end, he just scooted over next to Skylar and sat next to her until she finished.

"So, um... How d'you like Antecedent?"

Sky attacked her food and soon was finished. She leaned back against the bed and sighed contentedly.

"I've only been here a few days but it's pretty cool. The thieves are very polite to each other, the streets are mostly clean, there's a lot less pollution, and you're here." Skylar looked over at Jan.

"Why do you ask?"

Jan shrugged as he looked at Skylar again. At least leaving her home hadn't been too bad for her. That made him feel a little better.

"Just making conversation. I've been around here a lot for the Ravens, but I don't think I'll be staying. It's not... home."

"I know what you mean." Sky noticed a small piece of food on Jan's face.

"You got a little something by your lip. " Sky leaned in and wiped it off, kissing him again on the mouth before standing up and walking over to the wind and drawing the blinds. Then she remembered Jan mentioning something about music, and turned around again.

"You still up for that dance?"

Jan couldn't help but smile when Sky brushed whatever it was off his lip. He certainly couldn't help it when she kissed him again. As he got up, he winked and slipped an arm around Sky's waist.

"Just don't step on my foot to hard this time, huh?"

Sky laughed and slipped an arm around Jan's neck. The first time they'd danced, she'd stepped on his foot quite a bit, resulting in him icing his foot before they went home that night.

"I'll try my best then." Sky couldn't help smiling at Jan.

Well, that felt nice. Jan heard himself begin humming to keep time as he grabbed Sky's free hand. It wasn't that he didn't have music to dance to. It was that he really wasn't going to let go of her to go pull it up on his computer.

"Don't worry, Sky. Got ice in the freezer, and you to smile at me until I can't think."

The last part was unlikely to happen, he thought with a grin, but she'd have no problem keeping his mind off an injured foot.

Sky laughed again and smiled shyly, blushing slightly. They danced to Jan's humming until twilight began to creep up. Surprisingly, Sky didn't step on Jan's foot once. As twilight began to show, it began to be harder to see the rest of the room, and Sky bumped into the bed, causing both of the dancers to lose balance and topple onto the bed.

"Oh, oops!" Sky realized the position they were in on the bed and felt her cheeks blushing furiously.

"Uh, hah, sorry."

A few hours passed by as Jan and Sky danced together. It felt great. He held the blonde girl close, and somehow managed to keep humming the whole time. After a while, they were basically just hugging each other and turning in a circle. Eventually, it got dark, and they crashed over the edge of the bed. Jan blushed a bit, but managed to smile.

"It's okay, Sky."

He rolled a little so she was lying beside him and snuggled up to her.

"We can even fall asleep like this, if you want."

"Okay." Skylar relaxed and let her head rest on the pillow, feeling the exhaustion of the past few weeks of searching finally catching up to her. She smiled at Jan before closing her eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.

"G'night Jan. Glad I found you."

'Where is it?' Young Skylar was backed up against the wall, the man she'd unsuccessfully pickpocketed aiming his blaster right at the little girl's face. Tears had formed at the edges of the little one's eyes and she was stuttering a lot.

'Where is it you little thief?!' The man grabbed little Sky by the collar of her shirt and shook her violently. She began to cry, but the man managed to make out the words through her stuttering.

'I-i'm s-sorry, s-sir, p-please d-don't hurt m-me. H-here.' She held out the precious ring, which the man grabbed and stuffed back in his pocket.

'I'm still going to teach you a lesson, street-rat.' The man pointed the gun at her thigh and pulled the trigger..

"No!" Sky shot up in the bed from the horrible nightmare, breathing heavily. She silently drew her knees to her chin and buried her face in her hands. She hadn't had a nightmare like that in a while. A few silent tears dripped from her face before she hastily dried them and laid back down.

"Me too, Sky."

Jan kept his arm around Skylar as they smiled at each other and fell asleep. His dreams were not nearly as pleasant as his company. The first thing he saw was his house, remembering the view out the big window. And then the feeling of total nausea that had overtaken him as he watched the planet explode. His eyes snapped open, just in time to see Sky lay back down. He nudged closer and pulled her into a hug.

"Bad dream, huh?"

Sky started and tensed as Jan pulled her into a hug, but then relaxed, thankful for the comfort.

"Yea, a bad memory." Sky buried her face into Jan's chest. It was more then a bad memory, but she didn't want him to worry. She looked up at Jan's sleepy face. He looked fine on the outside, but his eyes looked like they had seen a ghost.

"You too?"

Jan sighed a little bit, pulling a pillow over so they could lean on it. Sky was there, she was real. It wasn't like there'd ever been anybody around for him on Corellia. Not for nearly a decade. But the planet's destruction would probably bother him for a very long time.

"Yeah. Corellia. The view out my bedroom window."

He gave Sky a little kiss and a squeeze.

"Memories don't fade easily, huh?"

Sky nodded slowly, resting her head on the pillow. Of course he had a nightmare about Correllia, who wouldn't have a nightmare about their homeworld blowing up? She accepted Jan's kiss and then sighed.

"No, no they don't." Sky smiled a bit, but it was strained, worry and exhaustion evident in her eyes. Her constant searching for Jan had taken a toll on her mind and strength, but now she could finally sleep in peace.
