Getting Out of a Fowl Mood (Skylar)

Jan VonFowl

Part-Time Party Crasher
Jan smiled back at Skylar, even though she seemed a little bit sad. He stared into her eyes, and saw how tired she looked. She really had been more concerned for him than she wanted to admit. He leaned his forehead against hers, sighing a little bit.

"I'm sorry, Sky. How long were you looking for me?"

It felt like there was something else bothering her too, but he didn't know whether he should try and ask her. Hmm.

Sky lay there for a bit, not sure whether to talk about it or not. Then she decided to anyway, if she could trust Jan with her life, she could trust him about anything. She took a breath before speaking.

"The truth is, Jan, I'm as homeless as you are, I've been searching for you for six months without stopping because you're the only thing I have left." She stopped remembering the explosion. Sky lifted up her shirt slightly to show Jan a huge scar along her side.

"A demolition crew came and destroyed my home without even checking to see if anyone was in it. They heard me scream, but it took them a whole hour to find me after the dust settled. I was in the ICU for a week and then the hospital for the rest of the month after that. How I survived is beyond me."

"Oh, Skylar..."

Jan ran a hand over the scar as gently as he could, sucking his breath in a little. Wow, was she stronger than him. Force or no Force, he probably wouldn't have survived his room collapsing in on him without a warning. And... six months? She'd been looking for him that long? The stripe-haired Vahla felt both a surge of affection and a little worm of guilt. But he ignored the guilt as much as he could to try and cheer Skylar up. Jan's hand ran through her hair.

"You survived. You found me. You're amazing, Sky."

Sky slightly trembled as Jan's fingers brushed along her scar, and she wasn't sure why.

"I don't think I would've made it if I hadn't met you, Jan." Exhaustion hit Skylar again and she fell asleep again almost immediately after, her head buried in Jan's chest.

Jan looked at Sky with a little bit of concern as he felt her tremble, and then relaxed as he realized she was okay. He felt her go back to sleep and began to drift back off, himself.

"Let's never test that."

The next morning, Sky slowly woke up, stretching with a small yawn, before rolling over so she faced the ceiling.

"Uhn.." Sky opened her eyes a crack and moaned at the bright light, but when she rolled over to escape the light, she suddenly found herself on the floor, landing with a thud.

"Oof.."

Jan's eyes opened as he yawned himself awake, not registering for a second that Skylar wasn't on the bed next to him. Then his groggy brain woke up and started searching around with the Force... And found her on the floor. He raised an eyebrow at her.

"Is it more comfortable on the floor, Sky?"

Sky's groggy mind then registered that she was on the floor and Jan was staring at her sleepily from the bed. She didn't register the humor of the comment and yawned again.

"Mm, must've fell." Sky kicked her leg free of the sheet that had twisted around her ankle and crawled back onto the bed, laying her head on Jan's chest.

Jan gave Sky a little squeeze as she crawled back into bed. He shifted a little bit so he could look into her face, still groggily smiling at her. The way she'd snuggled back into him was pretty cute, and it definitely made him smile a bit wider.

"Mmm... what should we do today?"

Skylar rolled so she could look into Jan's eyes, her mind now half awake.

"Don't care.." She reached her hand up and stroked Jan's cheek, smiling with her eyes half open.

Jan felt Skylar's hand on his cheek and gave her another squeeze. Then he had an idea of what they could do.

"Huh. How does party-crashing sound, Sky?"

He shifted again so he could kiss her and his grin turned a little mischievous.

"Mm, 'kay." Sky leaned into the kiss, finally all the way up, and smiled after, her grin matching Jan's.

"What kind of party?" Then both of the two love birds' stomachs rumbled, loudly. Sky held up a hand to stop any explanation.

"Tell me while we eat."

Jan laughed and gently poked Skylar's cheek as their stomachs started growling. No matter what the conversation was, they could have it over food.

"Yep. Breakfast time. Might have to go out for it, though. Bet the room service people are still asleep."

"Okay, Jan. I'll be right back."

Sky sat up and stretched again, yawning before giving Jan another kiss and getting out of the bed. Sky walked over to her backpack, grabbed a fresh change of clothes, and hopped into the shower, humming an old forgotten tune. Once she was out and dressed, she came out and started searching in her backpack for her hairbrush.

Jan squeezed Sky's hand as she got up, and went about his own morning routine, which mostly involved checking the holonet for new information to use for the Ravens' benefit, and possibly his too. He groaned in exasperation as he saw that the local channels were filled with nothing except gossip about some aristocrat and his fancy party.

Huh. Maybe that could be their target for the day.

Successful in finding her brush, Sky brushed her slightly dry hair before pulling it up in a messy bun. Then she came back out to the room and snuggled up next to Jan as he watched something about some richie's party.

"That the party we're crashing?" Sky gave Jan a squeeze before giving him another kiss on the cheek.

"Ready to go eat? Or do you need to take another shower?"

Jan smiled at the feeling of Skylar snuggling up again, letting the computer turn back off as his attention turned back to his newfound girlfriend. He slipped his arm around her as he nodded and his smile widened.

"That's the party, alright. Let's go eat something, then we'll see how Lord Fowl and Lady Ichor can make their appearance."

He gave Sky a teasing wink and squeezed her hand as he began to get up from the bed.

"Lord Fowl and Lady Ichor? That has a nice ring to it." Sky chuckled and also got off the bed, yanking on a pair of worn boots and her black hoodie. She made sure her wallet and the hotel keycard were secure in the hidden pocket of the jacket, her pendant was around her neck, and her knife was on her belt. When she saw that all were in place, she went back over to Jan once he was ready and slipped her arm around his.

"Yes, I thought so."

Jan grinned back at Sky as he pulled his boots on. He turned away for a second to look at a small box that'd been in his pocket the night before, then finally just shrugged and grabbed a bunch of throwing knives and stuck them in their little holster up the sleeve of his jacket. The rest of the box, he dropped back into a side pocket and felt Sky take his arm. He slipped the arm around her with a teasing wink.

"To the carriage, then, m'lady."

Sky laughed again and let Jan lead the way back out to the Fowlmobile. Once they were in the speeder and on their way, Sky turned to look at Jan and sighed.

"Jan, have you ever wondered why I wear this pendant night and day?"
