Slowly, the droid had started to relax. Master

Despite every last servo screaming at him to roll out of the way, BB-610 ignored his self-preservation module as he took a firm stance in front of Vera, as if a diminutive astromech were all it took to shield her from the incoming danger, electro-shock prod primed and readied with the crackle of static... only for the icy ball to leap into the air above them, the astromech's gaze following it carefully before it erupted into a gorgeous shower of flakes and sparkles, raining down upon them as Chancellor

Hastily, BB-610 repositioned, rolling in front of the woman now to protectively put a barrier between her and Vera. Chirping and clicking like a yapping guard dog trying to ward intruders off, the droid told Vera that he's set up their defenses and that he won't let her through.
Immediately after, Auteme swiftly scooped the young girl up, leading BB-610 to begin screaming in panicked binary that THEIR DEFENSES HAVE BEEN BREACHED--
The aftermath, however, seemed anything but hostile. Amidst giggles and cackles of holiday joy, Vera was safely perched atop the woman's shoulders, leaving BB-610 retracting his shock prod and trembling in fear, too startled to wave back to the girl. As Auteme asked for his designation, the droid flinched, recoiling. He'd given his name in response to a call-out plenty of times in his lifetime, and most of them had ended with physical abuse, so it was only natural for him to assume the worst as the Chancellor glanced down at him, smile or otherwise.
But Vera was okay. She was okay. And- And this was an important figure in The Galactic Alliance, was she not? Potentially a friend of Valery's? He- He could trust her, surely...? She wouldn't hurt him.
So ever so skittishly, the astromech inched closer, quietly replying with some bweeps that his designation was BB-610.
