Hits And Giggles

Location: New Cov Jedi Temple, Training Grounds

VX4ps62.png

As dawn breaks over the lush jungles of New Cov, the tranquil serenity of the Jedi Temple gives way to an air of playful anticipation. The training area, nestled amidst the towering trees and gleaming architecture of the temple grounds, is alive with energy as Jedi of all ages gather for a game set to embodies camaraderie, strategy, and a dash of mischief: Dodgeball!

This was an exercise not just for physical skill, but also for cultivating and practicing certain force skills such as deflection, shields, object telekinesis, and physical enhancement in a creative way.

At the edge of this tranquil yet vibrant sanctuary, the day was not duels or introspection but for a test of agility, wit, and teamwork. The scent of the jungle mingles with the crisp freshness of the morning air as participants and spectators alike fill the arena, their laughter and banter echoing around the open air. The arena itself seems to hum with anticipation, its energy field shimmering faintly in the sunlight as colored balls hover, primed for the game to begin.

Jedi of all ages and ranks assembled in the courtyard, their robes a blur of motion and color as they prepared for what was to come. The soft rustle of the trees mingled with the low murmur of anticipation, punctuated by bursts of laughter as someone warmed up with a Force-assisted leap or an exaggerated dodge. Hovering droids, polished and shining, floated into position, their spherical forms humming with energy as they prepared to act as referees or other needed rolls.

Today, the Force wasn’t guiding sabers or meditations—it was igniting the spark of fun that bound the Jedi together, a testament to the bonds that transcended even the most disciplined of lives. For a few hours, the galaxy’s weighty conflicts were set aside, replaced by a shared joy and lighthearted competition that united Masters, Knights, and Padawans alike. The stage was set, the air alive with energy, and the first Jedi Dodgeball match at New Cov was ready to begin!

The rules were simple:
  1. All typical dodgeball rules apply: You must stay on your team's half of the arena, if you catch a ball thrown by someone then the one who threw it is out and you can bring back a previously removed member of your team, intentional crotch shots are prohibited, etc.
  2. The balls for this game have a color shifting technology that will change to black if it's made contact with a living being. If you've been hit, you're out.
  3. Only enhancement, telekinesis (on the balls, not others), sense, and deflecting via the Force permitted as this is an exercise in those aspects.
  4. NO mental manipulation through the Force is permitted, lest you be warned and eventually removed from the game. For this exercise, these are considered cheating.
  5. Trust your teammates, and have fun!
Referee droids would be stationed around the training grounds to make sure that these rules are followed and everyone participating engages in good sportsman conduct.

Jack wasn't a sports guy, playful he can be. Nothing against the exercise, it was the competitive nature he wasn't overly fond with, even if Jedi, in general, were far meant to be competitive.

Still! It was nice to be on familiar soil; Jack navigated to the courtyard like the back of his hand, returning to old training grounds and taking his seat, waiting eagerly for the game to start. His posture light in thrumming enthusiasm, smiling pleasantly under New Cov's warm sun, datapad in hand.

Just in case for inspiration.

Vera stood at the edge of the training area, the faint shimmer of the energy field casting a golden glow across her sharp grin. She spun one of the dodgeballs in her hands, the Force subtly guiding its rotations as she sized up the competition. The excitement in the air was contagious, and the lively chatter of Jedi all around her only fueled her enthusiasm.

Today wasn't about lightsabers or meditation — today was about proving once and for all that Team Gold was the superior team.

Her multi-colored eyes scanned the crowd until they landed on a familiar figure on the opposite side of the court. Roman Vossari Roman Vossari . She heard he was the biggest Nerd around.

Vera's grin widened into something borderline mischievous as she locked eyes with him and gave him an exaggerated thumbs-down. "Hope you're good at dodging!" she called across the training area.

She didn't wait for a reply. She turned to her teammates on Team Gold, her emerald robes swishing as she gestured dramatically toward the middle of the arena. "Alright, Azurine, the plan is simple," she began, her voice dripping with mock seriousness. "We destroy team Silver!"

Her smirk softened as she nudged Azurine with her elbow. "But, you know, let's not break too many of their egos all at once. We'll play with our food a little."

The floating droids took their positions, emitting a sharp whistle to signal the start of the game. Vera crouched slightly, her stance loose but ready, the dodgeball hovering just above her palm. The Force thrummed through her, not as a tool for combat, but as a playful partner in the game.

The warm sun of New Cov bathed the Jedi Temple courtyard in a golden glow, and Valery strolled through the bustling training grounds with a soft smile on her lips. Today wasn't about galactic conflicts, philosophical debates, or heavy responsibilities. Today was about fun, camaraderie, and a little playful chaos.

Her fiery eyes scanned the vibrant scene — the laughter of Padawans, the animated strategies of Knights, and the calm oversight of Masters all mingled with the lush greenery of the temple grounds. But one voice pierced through the chatter, carrying across the arena with unmistakable energy.

"Hope you're good at dodging!"

Valery's steps faltered, and a sheepish grin tugged at her lips. There was no mistaking who that was.

"That's my daughter, alright," she murmured under her breath, her tone laced with a mix of pride and mild exasperation. The competitive edge in Vera's voice was unmistakable, and Valery could already see the fiery determination in her daughter's eyes as she geared up for what she clearly planned to be a total domination of the match.

Shaking her head with a soft chuckle, Valery made her way to the spectator area and spotted a familiar figure already seated comfortably, datapad in hand. She approached Jack with a warm smile and gestured to the ground beside him.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked before settling down without waiting for a response, her tone light and friendly. Leaning back, Valery turned her gaze to Jack, her expression curious but relaxed. "Here for inspiration or just enjoying the show?"

Lowering his 'pad enough in polite respect, Jack smirked to his new friend, brown eyebrows raised with light humour, "Hm, they're the ones playing yet I feel the pressure sitting next to the Grandmaster." At her following inquiry, the Knight waved said handheld in playful emphasis, "May as well take advantage in the spectate. What about you?"

Amazing how casual he felt with just a light conversation with their leader, as a whole. Unable to hide the wide, mirthful hazel that seemed to be natural in Master Noble's warm presence.

The air crackled with anticipation as Roman entered the training area, an easy confidence radiating from him. The choice was obvious; Team Silver was where true talent belonged. He secured a silver headband around his head, pushing back his red hair, his movements precise and deliberate. He stretched, his muscles warm with barely suppressed energy, as he surveyed the growing group. He hoped Kuhbee Kuhbee , the formidable Wookiee friend, would find his way over to the right side, surely the brute strength of the Wookiee would be needed.

Scanning Team Gold, Roman smirked. They looked like a collection of Padawans yet to truly grasp the finesse of the Force. His gaze settled on Vera, he heard she was a nerd just like her mother. He saw her playful tease, the exaggerated thumbs-down, her eyes glinting with mischief. It was almost endearing, almost.

"Hope you're good at dodging!" she called out, her voice carrying across the arena.

Roman's smirk widened into a confident grin. "Dodging? Please, Vera," he retorted, his voice laced with playful arrogance. "You won't even get a shot in on me. And don't go crying to your mom when it's a Silver domination today." He crossed his arms, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Team Gold is going to be eating our dust." He almost chuckled. "Prepare for a lesson, and maybe, just maybe, we'll let you have a few pity points," he called towards Vera, his voice full of the confidence only youth could muster. He almost looked like he was vibrating with anticipation, sure that the other Padawans and Jedi around him knew, that Team Silver would win.

He turned, ready to face his team, ready to lead his fellow Jedi to victory. Today was not about sabers, nor was about wisdom. It was about raw talent, strategy, and a bit of showmanship. And Roman was ready to deliver.

Valery chuckled softly at Jack's quip, her warm gaze flicking his way as she adjusted her position on the grass. Stretching her legs out in front of her, she leaned back onto her hands, her posture relaxed and casual despite the lively energy buzzing around the dodgeball court.

"Pressure, huh?" she teased lightly, her fiery eyes twinkling with amusement. "I promise I left the whole 'Grandmaster aura of authority' thing behind the moment I sat down. Today, I'm just a mom and a Jedi enjoying the game."

She tilted her head toward the court, her smile softening. "I'm mostly here to watch Vera and the other Padawans show off their skills. But honestly," she added with a hint of mirth, "It's nice to take a break from all the reports and meetings."

Her gaze lingered on the players for a moment, her smile deepening as she spotted Vera's determined stance and the animated exchanges among the teams. "What about you? Ever tempted to join in on these games, or is spectating more your style?"

Her tone carried a lightness that matched the scene — the laughter, the playful shouts, and the hum of Force energy filling the air. It was clear she cherished this small escape from the galaxy's usual demands, even if her sharp senses never fully turned off.

Stretching as she entered the gym, Lily figured that doing some training with the Force while playing a competitive sport with friends would be a good way to get some bond, train and assess where her strengths and weaknesses were. It was also a way for her to burn some competitive energy that Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren stoked in her during some training with the RNR Jedi.

Entering the gym, she saw a good number of familiar faces and gave everyone a wave. She joined Vera and Azurine on their side of the gym. Lily grinned as she looked over to the side which seemed to be all boys. "Did no one tell them that silver is just first place last? You have go gold every time." Lily grinned with a giggle.

"Who are we targeting first, ladies?" Lily asked with a smirk on her lips, ready to take them all down in a few seconds.

New Cov felt like Cathar. That was a fact he had accepted, and even though Nir was much more of a city-slicker than his fellow species, he appreciated that fact.

The thought of jedi dodgeball was enough to lure Nir away from his band practice, and to the jungle temple, looking for something to do.

And yet, when he arrived, the team that needed the most help was the team with all the girls.

Don't make it weird Nir.

"Room for one more?"

"I'm more comfortable to watch," Jack confessed without any shame, shrugging as left palm pressed into New Cov's soft, welcoming grass. He sighed, breathing in the clean nature, having missed this place after some time spent on Coruscant.

Appearance-wise, at least.

Speaking of appearances, "
Now we're cookin'," Jack then murmured, catching sight of Lily Decoria Lily Decoria joining the Gold Team, his grin widened in fond recognition. Maybe if he was lucky, they'd have another lightsaber debate after the game.

However, when Nir Si Nir Si then joined said team, the Knight frowned. Squinting with his head over to the Gold Team, asking of the Grandmaster curiously.

"
So which kid's yours? Who's Vera?"

Valery chuckled softly at Jack's ease in admitting his preference for spectating. She admired that about him — his straightforwardness and lack of pretense. As he shifted his attention to the court, so did she, though not before reaching up to fix her hair. Her hands moved with practiced ease, her fingers slipping through her bangs before tucking them aside.

"Ah, there we go," she murmured to herself before her gaze followed his to the Gold Team.

"That one," she said with a warm smile, pointing toward a determined-looking young woman with striking features and unmistakable confidence. Vera stood with her team, radiating energy and Chaos as she discussed some kind of strategy with Azurine. The intensity in her stance was unmistakable — she was ready to win.

"That's Vera," Valery continued, her voice carrying a mix of pride and amusement. "The one gearing up like she's about to take on a Sith Lord instead of dodgeballs." She chuckled softly. "She's competitive, to say the least."

Valery leaned back again, her hands bracing against the soft grass as her fiery gaze lingered on her daughter for a moment longer. "She's got her dad's calm under pressure and my... let's call it enthusiasm for the game." Her smirk turned playful as she glanced back at Jack.

Peering over, in an instant, Jack saw the similarities. Oh the mannerisms were slightly altered, but appearance? Yeah, almost like looking at Master Noble's mirror.

His grin widened all the more, "She's adorable," He murmured, finding the open sass endearing. Between her, Lily Decoria Lily Decoria and Azurine Varek Azurine Varek , the three young women looked like members of the Jedi Sass Squad; meaning.

Silver Team may have their work cut out for them.

Feeling comfortable enough to nudge the older Master with his shoulder, Jack winked over, "
Don't tell me; you'll get her some Alderaan Ice Cream when this is over?"

Haven’t picked my team yet:

Connel has been BUSY the past few weeks… months… How long has it been?

Anyway, he was here to pick up Buster and invite Ryana to lunch at Mel’s Diner on Coruscant, but she had something she was assigned to at the moment. Or something, she was not around, but would be soon, so he had some time. That is when Connel noticed some commotion. Several initiates, Padawans, even Knights were making their way to the training area. One even stopped him, COMPLETELY intimidated…

“M… Master Vanagor?”

Connel was not even in his full gear, so he was surprised. He offered a reassuring smile and held up a hand. That’s my father. I’m a Knight… call me “Connel”...

The Rodian was still intimidated. “Kn… Knight Vanagor… are you going to dodgeball?”

”Dodgeball”? Quirking an eyebrow that people who knew his father would recognize.

“Yeah! It’s in the training area. Anyone can watch, even join!” He ran off before Connel could say anything. Kid must have been scared to be around him. Maybe it was his “standoffish” demeanor.

G.I.-Joe-Snake-Eyes-Henry-Golding-Bosslogic.jpg
So, he walked over to the training grounds and saw a court set up. A couple of… hey that’s Vera! She’s grown… Roman… cool… he knew of Lily Decoria as well. Interesting.

If Vera is here, that means… oh yeah. There she is! Master Noble talking to another Jedi Knight he had yet to meet. Time to do something he would not have thought of doing the last time they had come across each other. Time to walk over and say “hi!”. Time to change the old image he used to have. It was great to be out there as a Shadow and use his natural “loner” demeanor to its strength but sometimes it was just good to be around people…

Ooh! A Cathar! Cool. I wond… he… he looks a little like Jonyna… I wonder…

Walking over and not wanting to interrupt Jack and Valery’s conversation, he stood nearby and waited, but waved a friendly “hello!” to both of them. It felt weird to do this, but oddly good.

The yard was set, the balls in place - lined up in the center, both teams lining up at their start line at either end of the court. Once the whistle was blown, the game would begin.

Aadihr felt a competitive excitement that was still foreign to him. A guilt-free team sport that truly encouraged coordination, competition, and exercise of force and physical capability with minimal risk of injury - it was like a weight that usually barred his actions had been lifted. The rules and implements were safe enough he didn't need to be hypervigilant for the safety of the padawan on both his team - Silver, and the gold team - which Azurine Varek Azurine Varek had joined.

He greeted his teammates warmly as he approached the starting position - the signatures of Braze Braze and Kuhbee Kuhbee were a welcome pair, and another he had not officially met, but had read their aura from afar - Roman Vossari Roman Vossari - The vanguard of Iridonia, vomiter of Dantooine, and flipper of the ponside rope-swing.

"Hey lads, ready to humble the goldies? Between Azzie and Vera Noble Vera Noble , I think we can expect some overconfident maneuvering" the Miraluka said with a sly tone.

"Your reputation precedes you, Roman - I look forward to playing alongside you" Aadihr said earnestly.

Braze was agile and precise, Aadihr still remembered waking up on the training room floor on Veridia. He had confidence in that boy.

Kuhbee certainly had a base of athleticism, but Aadihr did worry slightly for the Wookie. He wasn't sure how the dodgeball's color shifting reaction to organic contact would register a graze against fur. Looking at the interior of the spheres through the force, it seemed like some combination of a simple accelerometer with an organic detector - probably tuned to account for such one way or the other. Regardless, the Wookie was a large target for their age.

Well, Aadihr could do what he did best.

"When the whistle starts, I'll draw their attention. I'm betting that the hotheads on the other side are going to rush towards the balls first to try to hit anyone else approaching." Aadihr speculated. "If you're worried about being faster on the throw than any of the goldies, feel free to hang back and grab some from the first volley"

Just like Soresu - deflect, dodge, save energy, let the rest of the team handle offense for now.

Aadihr grinned - he felt like showing off. Finally, a situation where his narrow competencies and specialization overlapped with the task at hand.

Kuhbee was so excited for a friendly game of dodgeball that he was practically bouncing on his paws! He had never played the sport before but Wookies were extreemly athletic so he would probably pick it up easily. The rules were easy enough to understand so he wasn't worried about those. The absolute best part was that he was on the team of his new bestest best friend Roman! The young cub was so excited to see Roman again. He waved enthusiastically at his fellow padawan as he joined the silver team.

[Hi everyone! Thanks for letting me be on your team!]

Kuhbee waved at his new teammates and grinned, his small fangs showing through his mouth. This game was going to be so much fun. Kuhbee wasn't really a competitive sort of person, but he did hate to lose. His people were about collaboration and community and right now the young Wookie was just so glad to feel included. He would do his best in the game but he also had to be careful not to hurt anybody. Wookies tended to get angry when they lost. He couldn't rip anybodies arms off today....

Silas had arrived early for the dodgeball game and had spent most of his time stretching off in preparation for the big game. As time went on more people began to arrive, and the only person he recognized was Braze Braze who would for sure implement some tricks into their game. However, the opposition team seemed to be more familiar. Valery's daughter Vera had already took her place, as well as Lily who he wanted to strike out when given the chance. They were both competitive, so it was going to set up for a more than interesting game.

"I hope you're not thinking of me first Lily!" he shouted to her with a smirk "The game would have finished by the time you even hit me with a ball." Silas said teasingly. No one was safe during dodgeball, you could say anything goes.

"Come on Silver, how about we turn some gold into fools?"

Valery blinked, her attention flicking back to Vera just in time to catch her exchanging a particularly dramatic glare with someone from the Silver Team. The fiery energy radiating off her daughter was almost palpable, and Valery couldn't help but laugh softly, shaking her head.

"She's certainly not making any new friends out there, is she?" Valery teased, her tone light but brimming with affection. "Very 'Noble' of her, really. She's got a way of turning friendly games into epic rivalries."

Her grin lingered as she leaned back a little further, her gaze still fixed on the court. Vera's playful antics with Lily and Azurine had clearly solidified their team dynamic — and ensured the Silver Team had their hands full.

When Jack nudged her shoulder, Valery smirked and tilted her head his way. "Alderaan Ice Cream?" she echoed with mock offense. "I don't know if that's a good idea. She seems energetic enough already." But Vera did love sweets, or "snackies" as she liked to call them.

...so did all the other Nobles.

As the game was starting, Valery took note of Connel Vanagor Connel Vanagor and waved politely in return. He was welcome to join them, or even to participate in the game. She had a feeling a few others would still show up, too. Shifting back to Jack, her playful tone softened slightly as she added, totally seriously, "What matters most is that she beats them."

Azurine rolled her shoulders, stretching out the tension in her arms as she surveyed the court. The energy field’s shimmer painted a golden hue over the court, illuminating her face as she adjusted her stance. Her bright, amethyst eyes flicked from Vera to Lily to the rest of Team Gold as she considered their strategy. It wasn’t truly about winning for her; this was an opportunity for pure sportsmanship. Winning was really just the icing on the cake.

Her gaze darted between Team Silver’s players, recognizing almost every one of them except the young Wookie. This was definitely one way to get to know him, though. Spars and competition were some of the best ways to do that in her opinion.

Azzie’s eyes caught sight of Aadihr, who had positioned himself on the opposing team, pausing only to look him over. She hadn’t seen much of him since their tense confrontation with The Red and the chaos of the Fire Festival that followed. The memory still lingered—the weight of unspoken words between them. She’d caught glimpses of him here and there around the temple, but they were fleeting, like trying to catch smoke with bare hands. Whether it was distance born of circumstance or choice, it was hard for her to say, especially here. But for now, she focused on the game, putting those thoughts on hold—at least until later.

"But, you know, let's not break too many of their egos all at once. We'll play with our food a little."

"I don't know, girls. These balls are about to be flying, and their faces sure look an awful lot like landing pads right about now." She teased loud enough for the other team to hear her and tossed her head to look over her shoulder, flashing them a sly wink.

"Who are we targeting first, ladies?"

Azzie smirked, the thoughts running through her mind. Braze and Aadihr stood out on the opposing team, their Force Sight making them dangerous. They’d see every feint, every sneaky throw. It was almost unfair. Almost. However, she knew Aadihr's strengths were in defense, not offense. He would be certain to try to distract so others could have easier openings. She also knew that Roman would be in a similar boat after what she's seen of how he fought.

She turned to Lily and the others, her eyes sparking with the heat of a wildfire and her usual spark of humor. “I'd say to focus fire on Connel and Braze first,” she suggested, her tone whispered to the rest of her teammates but strategic. Her whole demeanor showed her ease at slipping into a sort of leadership role. “Braze's knowledge of senses and physical skill makes him one of the biggest threats, and Connel is just a straight-up powerhouse in most ways; no explanation is needed there. Take them out, and the rest will be as easy as shooting a Mynock in a cargo hold. Oh, and don't take Aadihr's bait unless you're sure it won't leave you open to taking a hit. Don't let the blindfold fool you; I've seen him fight, and he's a master of deflection. Not so much with offense, though.”

Azzie turned her attention back to the court, giving a thumbs up to Nir as well. Though she had never seen him before, the more the merrier! "Alright, dream team, let’s show Silver how it’s done,” she quipped, her voice brimming with energy. She added an exaggerated flourish as she high-fived a younger Padawan on the sidelines, making them giggle.

When the whistle resounded into the air, she was already in motion, channeling the force directly into her feet to propel her into a bolt of speed to take hold of one of the balls before launching herself backward with a jump that could have cleared a building gap.

Now, to wait for the first move.

Let's see if they can handle us.

Because Gold is overused and overrated:

yBvU91T.jpeg

I will if I see an opening. I don’t want to overload one team, you know? He said as he looked out there, those involved chatting amongst themselves and giving “the other side” dark looks. That was weird, as this was supposed to be a fun thing, but it was also showing the competitive side of each. Weirdest of all was the atmosphere, as if they were playing a game of chess. He wondered what would happen if someone made a wrong move. He hoped it would stay friendly, but he knew it was a precarious situation.

I think that right now I would rather just stand around, watch and chat it up if it is alright with the two of you. Been alone with my thoughts a little too much lately. He laughed to himself.

Then he started seeing the deck basically more and more being stacked on one side, Connel did not really come to do this, but he decided to do something that was fun.

He joined the other side.

Shedding his outer jacket and putting it on a chair along with his shortsaber, Connel walked out onto the court before the whistle would sound.

G.I.-Joe-Snake-Eyes-Henry-Golding-Bosslogic.jpg
Boys… let’s go out there like a bunch of crazed Aak dogs and have some fun…

Limbering up, and cracking his neck, he went into “work mode” as he took one of the balls and held it like he does his Combat Shield, Connel dropped into a low stance, cutting to a fraction of the target he was. This was a game, and games were meant to be fun, but it seemed like all on the other side were trying to focus on Roman, and while he was one of the biggest nerds there was out there to be had, he wasn’t the only one. It was as if he was one of three.
