Lost Causes

She had been standing when the word came that he would be taking off, holding her arms out to keep her balance as her feet lifted rather awkwardly, she giggled and hoped she did not fall onto the floor.

As the ship moved Bree made her way to the cockpit to look out and see the stars, before everything switched to pitch black and cold. "Your ship isn't the only thing that gets a bit ornery when it sits too long" She gave Orick a knowing smile, he had to know what she meant and if he didn't well, she may have to show him.

"How long to Naboo?" How long would they be alone in the ship having to entertain one another, and what kind of entertainment could they come up with that would keep her pheremones down before in such a small space she flooded it and the inevitable happened.

He looked up as she entered the bridge and chuckled at her comment. " From here it's about a standard day. " He saw the look she had given him. He wasn't immune to her charms but he knew better than to allow her to seduce him. She was a zeltron and she could be dangerous if she wasn't watched carefully. "Ok so listen, down to business first, what's on Zeltros that's your willing to commit suicide to get to?"

He was ready t oread her reactions, but he wasn't sure it would work the same with a zeltron as a human. He rubbed at the back of his neck and propped hid feet up on the console.

Bree without asking took one of the vacant seats, one thing he lacked was manners or social graces but then in his line of work it probably did not matter much.
Her eyes looked around searching for indications of who this man was anything that hinted at his view of life. For after all there were many things that hinted at the connection to enjoying life. Then there were those that were dangerously close to the line that crossed into insanity.

Bree looked at him he was what everyone envisioned pirates to be, the manner of dress, the hair, the voice, the mannerism, perhaps more. Pirates often took what they wanted.

My family I need to retrieve a box from our home, it contains everything of importance” how important she did not believe she needed to elaborate.
Don’t worry you don’t have to sleep with me, it’s not a requirement upon meeting a Zeltron.” She tilted her head watching him, “I will do my best to keep my pheromones to myself.

She would help him at Naboo, and depending upon the amount of time maybe she would be able to go and earn a few credits.

You understand my reasons for needing to go, yes? Or do you require something more?”

He sat there for a moment, going over the information she had just told him. Whatever she wanted on Zeltros, she wasn't willing to tell him what it was. that was understandable given that they had just met. He turns to her and sighs deeply, " If I wanted to sleep with you, I would have approached you in that cantine on Nar Shadda. Secondly and this is the important part, you're not just some zeltron whore, I know it and so do you. We can drop this game. I find you intriguing because you are not the stereotype. I am not just some smuggler that sits in seedy establishments. I contract ot for all sorts of things, some of them include delivering supplies to warzone that are being fought against the Sith. You know what danger is, danger is knowing that the Sith know you exist."

He leans back in his chair as he gives her a small honest smile. " I'm being an ass again. It's hard sometimes to be civil when you spend so much time alone." He holds out his hand to her, " I'm Orick T'ane, I'll take you to Zeltros."

She nodded and smiled back she took his hand clasping it firmly. "I'm Breanna Volsh, thank you for the ride. I promise not to get in the way much." She thought of home often, and she thought of the people she had met since leaving the Dynasty.

She missed Rex, and [member="Judas Zambrano"] she had good times with them, but she knew times changed and things had to move forward. "So, you are kind of a jack of all trades, and in answer to your question yes you are being a bit of an ass." This felt good though and she couldn't help her romantic side slipping out afterall everything in her opinion should end well, even on the days when it did not end well.

How long did you say we had until we get to Naboo?

He turned and smiled at her " Nice to meet you [member="Breanna Volsh"]. Don't thank me before we finish, I have a bad feeling this won't go as smooth as it sounds." He tapped a couple of commands into the nav computer and engaged the hyperdrive. " I wouldn't say that I'm a jack of all trades, I'm just a guy with a few talents that often times gets him into trouble."

He stood up and stretched, the hidden pistol on the back of his belt barely visible under his shirt. " It's about a standard day to Naboo, then It's a quick hop to Zeltros." He turned and walked out of the cockpit, " Hungry? I got some decent food for the trip." He didn't know what to expect from this trip and he was going to try to be as pleasant as possible. Perhaps he would get something out of this little suicide run, perhaps not. But he was too stupid to walk away like he should have.

I can always eat another trait my species carries. Space to her was always cold she could feel the cold as it covered the ship, no amount of heat would shake it away. She looked down at her arm goosebumps had already begun to peak. It was not that she did not enjoy space, only that for her it felt cold, and devoid of anything. Orick seemed like the kind of guy that would help which she did not mind, but what would the cost be when this was all said and done.

The cost, if she wasn't able to retrieve the box what then. What if. She wouldn't thinking about it.

So what do you have to eat Orick? She finally followed him back towards where he was keeping rations.

He smiles as [member="Breanna Volsh"] enters the small living area his hands unwrapping two small containers, a savory spicy aroma fills the area and steam flows from the containers. The small loving area has a rounded table in the corner with a well worn couch wrapping around in along the wall. " This is a Melahnese delicacy called Fodu, with a green fire sauce." He says as he sets the two containers on the small table along with two small forks. " It's outrageously expensive when it's freshly cooked. I know a guy that can get it for me packed for a fraction of the cost. It's not as good as fresh, but it's much better than ration bars and the processed rations that you typically find on a ship."

He motioned for her to take a seat as he placed two cups on the table, " Muja fruit juice to wash it all down." He quickly put everything away before joining her at the table. " So ghosts of the family past haunting you? "

[member="Orick T'ane"]
Ooo how very nice I like spicy foods and things. She saw Orick smile and smiled back at him he was being a very gracious host. I have never had any of this before, but it all smells so good, I can't wait to try it. She would wait though until she was sure he was ready to eat. there were some cultures that said thanks for what they had before they ate, she did not know if Orick was that way.

Ghosts of her family, Because they left in such a hurry they left behind a few things that are precious to them. Not likely precious to anyone else, but I told them I would go get it. Use my....skills to acquire it. As a good daughter would, she would do what she had to to get it back.

My Grandparents gave them much of what is in the tiny chest, so...well, its one of those things. Do you have any family?" He had to have some, right.

"Please dig in, I am not big on rituals or formality. Enjoy!" He says as he take up his fork and begins to eat the food while it is hot. He nodded while she talked about her family, He wasn't very close to anyone in his family, but he could respect that she was willing to go to this length for her family.

She mentioned her skills and that intrigued him, mostly because she had up until this point been extremely vague as to what exactly what she did. " That is a noble goal, but I have to ask, what exactly are you skills? You haven't said much of anything about yourself as a whole. Granted I haven't exactly asked for a lot of information, but with things in motion it would be nice to know what you're capable of doing should trouble arise."

He sat back and pondered her last question. His family wasn't exactly close, He hadn't seen them much in the last decade or so, they lived in one place and he didn't like to really be tied down. " My family is... complex. My parents were killed years ago; I still don't exactly know the full details of it, but it happened when i was a much younger, so I don't dwell on it. My Aunt and her family live on Corellia and I have seen them a bit. They run a business or something or the other, I can't remember exactly. I have a few friends that I consider family, and I have made a few close friends in the Republic navy that are more family than my actual family."

[member="Breanna Volsh"]

One thing she was good at listening, she kept her gaze on him. He had a certain amount of sincerity in his voice. When he talked about family she was sad that he did not have the family she did maybe one day she could introduce him to hers. But the conversation once again turned to her.

She took a few bites of the food enjoying the taste looking down then back at him. "My skills are simple." Bree set her fork down, "I can fight hand to hand, because I'm a zeltron I make people feel comfortable. So I guess I'm just the decoration when someone needs it" She didn't mind that role it fit her.

[member="Orick T'ane"]

He nodded as she talked about what she was able to do, the Zeltron part he was well aware of. Even now he was trying to focus on keeping himself from being affected by the pheromones she was unable to totally contain. " Do you ever think that those skills are, with the exception of your natural talent for calm, the kinds of things that can make you more than just a decoration? You may not mind it, I can see the appeal to it honestly, but is that all you aspire to do? No dreams or aspirations?"

He stood and took the couple steps needed to get to one of the small cabinets. He pulls out a small bottle and tho small glasses and returns to the table. " Corellian wine?"

Bree nodded in response to the offer of a drink it had been a while since she had anything from Corellia.

"I had aspirations once of being a dancer" She grinned that was a child's dream for certain, but as she had gotten older. "I've thought about being a medic but the sexual appeal of zeltrons to most of the galaxy may get in the way of that."

She had never been satisfied with being a decoration she had felt like that with Rex, but her techniques she was a useful accumulator of information. Her natural abilities to make people relax could also make it easier for them to talk, and just maybe they'd talk to her about something they wouldn't normally want others to know.

But was that it, "I wouldn't make good soldier." She thought a bit more, "Not sure I'd be good at piloting" But what was it she had truly seen herself as before the Shadows. Before Rex.

She looked over at Orick, he really was trying to be a friend. He was growing on her and she found herself genuinely starting to like his persistence.

"I really did want to be a doctor my abilities would make it easy for some, and extremely difficult for others. But I'd be helping them, really helping them" She talked with a bit of a distant voice like it was a far off dream she spoke of. "I knew I'd have to be a medic first, and attend school, but" she shook her head, "it would be so worth it Orick"

She shrugged just then. Sexy Zeltron Medic. She could already imagine the comments.

He smiled as she talked, it was the most open and candid he had seen her since they had met. He saw how happy she was when she talked about helping people, not so much in her face, but in her eyes. " Is that all you can do with your natural talents? You can't make people calm and relaxed? because if you could then that alone would help save lives. Don't discount what you can so based solely on what the galaxy perceives you to be. If you want to help, then help. Kriff anyone that doesn't agree with you."

He took her glass and refilled it, along with his, " You do whatever makes you happy" He sat back and relaxed on the small couch. his body relaxing visibly. He looked around and sighed, This old boat had seen plenty of hard times, but not nearly enough good ones.

[member="Breanna Volsh"]

Is that all she can do? She tilted her head, "Well I'm telepathic to a degree I can read emotions feel them." Zeltrons possessed two livers, were very athletic, considered very attractive course they are also obsessed with romance. She loved the thrill of gambling.

He filled her glass again nice, she liked this. "I generally do what makes me happy as well as others" It was then she was picking up a sensation of emotion not despair more like regret. Which she took as a bad emotion and that he would be in need of something positive to make him happier.

"What is your wildest dream Orick? Something that you've always wanted to do?" She had learned human usually liked talking about these types of things. She crossed her legs, leaned forward and swirled the liquid in her glass.

How long till Naboo, could she make him more relaxed, more..compatible?

[member="Orick T'ane"]

He laughed heartily, the sound echoing off the metal walls of the small room, " My wildest dreams? Seriously, you want to know that?" He wasn't sure exactly how to answer that, she wasn't looking for some hopped up fantasy, was she? " Honestly, I know it sounds cliche, but I just want to be successful and happy. I want to be able to lay down at night without a weapon under my pillow. I want to wake up next to someone who I know won't betray me because of money or power. I just want peace in my life, the ability to be happy without worrying about the Sith or pirates or whatever else is out there trying to screw me over."

Orick sighed and shrugged, looking down at his drink and putting it on the table. " Sorry for that, no one ever asks that question." He grinned, " I wonder why." He looked back up at her, wondering about all of the things going on in her head, her eyes were piercing and it left him feeling like he was staring down a nexu.

He laughed that was a great sound and yes she really did want to know, "Yes tell me" He wanted to know her dreams, why would he not have one as well? Humans could be very confusing at times.

"So many want that as well, would it not be wonderful to have that." She shrugged her shoulders, "I hope we find it one day.." She couldn't help but smile, so many wanted this very dream. It wasn't as farfetched as he made it seem.

The things in her head, well she was wondering if once this trip was over would she ever run into Orick again, and she wondered how this trip would turn out. Otherwise she was not so hard to read for a Zeltron. She wanted happy, as she shunned the dark thoughts and emotions away.

She held up her glass and drank a little more, "Shall I find you a companion Orick?"

Orick laughed again at her suggestion," You would be wasting your time. There isn't a female of any species that would be able to handle my sporadic whims. I contract out to the republic between smuggling gigs and I have been know to help pretty ladies in need go on suicide runs. I doubt any being in their right mind would stand for that." He knew he was being overly dramatic, but he also knew that his lifestyle wasn't one that was conductive to healthy long term relationships.

He downed the last of the wine I his glass and debated filling it again. He shrugged and filled it again, topping hers off as well. " Here's to finding happiness." He said as he raised his glass. The wine was starting to get to him and he was starting to feel very melancholy. She was friendly in a sincere way that he had almost forgotten existed. He didn't know what was worse, that he had forgotten people could be like that, or that he was worried that it was all an act. He really needed to get out of this line of work.

"You are wrong Orick. I think once a woman learns to look past your nerf herder moments she will find your quite the man to have" Bree gave him a look that should tell him he's being dramatic. "Maybe women who have suicide runs are the type of woman you need to have, afterall women have a sense of adventure too"

She leaned forward as he filled her glass again, "Happiness, may it be lurking around the corner" She lifted her glass. He was too hard on himself and his lifestyle. And it was very obvious he had not spent anytime with a zeltron before.

She could feel the melancholy, "Do you have any music?" Bree loved music. "You know" she got up and slowly moved over towards him, as she got closer she smiled. We truly are species that likes to know people are happy and ok. Many of us are very gullible too." She leaned down and kissed his cheek. Life is so fleeting Orick you should not be alone.

She stepped back, she was greatful for his kindess. "I bet Naboo is beautiful, will we have a few moments to look around?"

He smiled at her statement, she was probably right, there could be someone out there for him, but he wasn't going out of his way to look for her. " You're probably right, I can be stubborn about it sometimes." Her next line of thought got him confused, what was she trying to say. She wanted to dance, and she's telling me she wants to make people happy...

Her kiss was unexpected and it caught him totally off guard, he could feel the genuine nature behind it. Her words were honest and he couldn't detect any malice in them at all. He closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath, " I may have something to listen to, but it's probably not as interesting or as vibrant as you are used to." He quickly got up, his body betraying him as he sat there. There was very little subtly in her kiss and he needed a bit of distance to continue to think clearly.

"Once we are done with my business I have nothing planned, if you want to look around then that's fine with me." He said as he tried to find where he had placed the old music player he had.
