Meeting on Voss

Abbey Ainsley

Weird mess of Jedi
Silver Temple - Voss

The light shined gently on the Silver Temple today, where a single newcomer could see it brightly from her spot outside, bathing in the warm streams that shot into the atmosphere. She blinked her eyes gently, before her soft gaze landed onto the ground and traveled to see what she could, as it came into place. She was expecting to already have a master, and be able to do training, though it didn't seem she was allowed to yet.

It was so lonely right now. She didn't know how other people could cope with such a strange and punishing act of the temple. Already ideas popped left and right into her head, how she could make it better, get everyone friends...

As Echo moved through the halls of the temple she thought of things from the past week. She then thought of the dance going on later tonight. She was so excited she could barely think but then she literally ran right into Abbey "Hey sorry."

There they were, the Bith thought as he saw them down the hall. The Miraluka, Echo, and the human, Abbey. He sensed their potential in the Force, strong but unrefined, as he felt for it. Abbey felt troubled to him as he observed her staring out the window. That worried the Jedi as many initiates were indeed nervous but excited.

She felt sad and lonely as if out of place here. Perhaps she missed her home and her loved ones, he guessed. Fortunately, she could still stay in contact with them and even visit on occasion. Though he himself had left home at four, Dune still exchanged holocalls and correspondence with his own family. His duties and training had kept him from visiting Clak'dor VII very often but his parents and siblings understood.

The Miraluka seemed quite absorbed in thought as evidenced when she bumped into the human. He chuckled quietly at that, remembering his own days lost in thought like that. "Excuse me, Padawans. I'm Dune Rhur and I was sent to collect you."

A startled jolt came from Abbey's form at the sudden rush of collision. She recognized and saw the face, raising her hands awkwardly in self defense. She didn't know how to fight yet, but she was very slow with her actions by the seems of it. Without responding to the girl, her eyes trailed to the Knight who was coming over. "Maybe I don't want to be collected. I just want to train here for a while. Think about the nature and stuff."

Dune's lips quirked into a small smile at their impertinence.

"You'd do well to remember your places here, Padawans," he not not too sternly "I'm not a stickler for propriety but there are those here who are."

He turned his head to regard the beauty of the mountains outside and nodded.

"Very beautiful, indeed."

Her turned his head back and regarded the two as he continued.

"To answer your question, Echo Kora, the Assembly sent me. Also, as it so happens Abbey Ainsley, you can admire the beautiful surroundings outside and train there too."

The Jedi had used their names to tell them that they we're not just some faceless beings. He acknowledged their existence as important as his own as some Jedi seemed to forget with apprentices. The difference between a Jedi and an apprentice was a matter of years, not anything else. He'd had time to train as they would also.

"We will be going outside to the gardens today for your first lesson."

Already Abbey could tell this wasn't a nice and cuddly place for teacher and student relationships. She took a deep breath and crossed her arms gently over her little new robes, staring out of the window like a gazing hawk. "I don't like being outdoors. It's sticky and hot sometimes." She said as an arguement.

Stubborn, this one, but Dune had a Jedi's patience.

"Yes, it can be. But, as Jedi, we're sometimes needed in terribly hot or cold places."

"Fortunately, we're taught ways of adapting to these conditions. What we will practice today is the gateway to those abilities and many more."

He gestured down the hall towards the gardens.

"Follow me, please."

His voice was never hard or commanding but it held calm assurance that they'd follow. Perhaps Abbey might be stubborn but he doubted she was as stubborn as a hungry gorgodon. Properly applied, her determination would help her go far. As it were, it was more surliness than determination.

Echo did as she was told because this was her only hope for a survival without this she would be back out on the streets starving and dancing just to try to make ends meet for herself. She didn't mind being told what to do for she needed help

After a few more seconds of looking out the window to the nature, Abbey slowly took a few steps after the knight before following him on a normal path. She had strong feelings about this place, but she still thought she could make it better. It was almost like that was her goal now, and that goal wasn't very hidden.

They went outside and quickly found themselves in the gardens where Dune sat cross-legged. He motioned Echo and Abbey to sit likewise across from him. "Before we begin, you should know that we don't expect perfection, especially on your first day. You won't be punished ever for struggling nor cast out. All we ask is that you do your best." With a reassuring smile began the lesson proper. "The Force is a field of energy which surroundings everything at all times. Without it, nothing could exist, even if the being or object has no concept of it."

"Some few of us are able to touch it, and thereby do amazing things. It's a rare gift and a great responsibility that we don't misuse it. In order to do any of these things, we must first learn to reliably connect with the Force."

"Therefore, we practice meditations which allow for us to do this. You may wish to close your eyes in order to concentrate more easily, Abbey. Now, breathe in deeply through your nose and out through your mouth. In and out, steady and relaxed."

He allowed them to do so for a few moments as he himself did.

"Now, as you continue, notice the sound of leaves rustling. Feel the caress of wind on your skin and smell the scents of flowers and grass. Allow it to wash over you. Beneath these things, you feel a pulse, a heartbeat. Reach out to it and allow it to reach out to you. This is the Force from which all things are born and to which all things return."

After sitting down and neatly folding legs together for cross-legs, Abbey took a moment to look around at the garden while the knight spoke. Already, they were showing terrible flaws in the system. How would anyone learn if the keep on being pampered and reminded to do 'just their best?' A small frown formed on her face, but it vanished shortly after she closed her eyes and began to breath.

She tried to feel everything the knight listed, but it was instantly too hard for her. Sure, she smells, sounds, and feel of the nature came over her, but she didn't really sense a pulse at all. "... It's not working. It just feels icky."

He noted the tension and struggle on the human's face. He said nothing until she spoke. "It does work, but you aren't letting it happen."

"You have to learn to relax, to quiet the thoughts and feelings. Then and only then will you succeed."

The Bith stretched out a long-fingered hand and a boulder easily twice Abbey's size began to levitate near them. He let her see it for a moment before gently setting it back down.

"You see?," he asked with a smile "It works when you let it."

She clamped her eyes shut and tried again, and again, getting more and more frustrated with each strong attempt. Soon tiny tears came into her eyes, and she gripped onto her robes in frustration. It wasn't fair...!

"It's not working!"

Dune rose to his feet quietly and walked over to the learners. He knelt and placed a gentle hand on each of their shoulders. He looked into their faces in turn. His lips curled up in a smile of good humour.

"Don't worry, young ones, it didn't work for me either at first. It'll be harder still if you're upset, so let's try something else."

He moved back just a little and sat so they formed a small circle.

"What are some of your favourite things, Echo and Abbey?"

The idea was to calm their fears and frustrations. The Force would come to them in it's own time and he wanted it to be something pleasant for his young students. His own teachers had done the same for him over twenty years ago. Dune hoped it would help and comfort them as it had once done for himself.

Abbey was more impressed by how it smiled than anything, but soon calm to relax a tiny bit and think about what she truly enjoyed. Tiny flickers of giant ships and hand-to-hand combat echoed at her side, herself, wearing baggy loose clothing that much of a Jedi's, and various weapons replacing themselves in her view.

Turning her head, she hesitated, then gave a quiet answer. "Revenge."

Echo attempted to think of things she liked to do. She thought as dark clouds began to cover the sky and finally she said "Dancing, and swimming thats about it."

"Dancing and swimming," the Bith nodded "And Revenge."

"An unorthodox answer, Abbey. Echo's hobbies don't seem to involve homicide."

He remained calm in spite of the untapped bitterness.

"Revenge is...not the best solution. The trouble is, revenge escalates into violence and one such act leads to another. In the end you both die needlessly. Justice is far better than revenge because it concludes a problem."

"That's what a Jedi strives for, justice. Justice is fair and seeks to serve the greater good. Revenge is selfish and serves merely an individual no matter the cost to others."
