ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:
  • Ability to resist conner nets and EMPs
  • Ability to detect cloaked ships via interstellar cloud generation
  • Ability to penetrate interdiction fields
  • Heavy firepower
  • Heavy defenses
Weaknesses:
  • The interstellar clouds it creates are easy to detect, as well as all objects moving through them. The Neimoidian AWACS have an especially large energy signature that can be tracked.
  • Limited interstellar cloud generation capacity (can only use them three times before it needs to be replenished)
  • Limited interstellar cloud range (10 km from the craft)
  • Takes up a large amount of hangar resources: it takes up the amount of resources of an entire squadron of attack craft in a hangar bay
  • Exposed cockpit and ball turret
Description: After the skirmish on Kashyyyk, the Silver Jedi was willing to reward key participants in the battle with AWACS units that they could use for their own transport, built from the Neimoidian Yacht chassis. In that case, the entire upper deck is used to house sensors, EWAR equipment and the topside turret and the mission specialists used to man them, leaving only the lower deck to carry passengers and cargo, removing the modularity of the old chassis in the process. In addition, the Kreelan ERA is used to help the AWACS platform defend against larger debris and projectile weapons, and the ball turrets are upgraded from single to dual-mount, allowing it to better defend against other starfighters.

The solution used to detect cloaked ships using gravitic amplitude modulators is a smaller-scale version of what's in use onboard the due to the smaller volume available on the Neimoidian AWACS: it still uses plasma projectors and microflechettes but here they extend only 10 km out from the ship, with objects passing through the dust cloud being detected by analyzing the particle and gas displacement through the dust cloud. Also, thanks to the limited space for the microflechettes onboard, the Neimoidian AWACS needs to recharge the microflechettes and chaff after three uses of the artificial dust cloud generator. However, the resources needed for the upkeep of such a diminutive AWACS platform are staggering: it takes up the resources of an entire squadron of starfighters if the pilot decides to have the craft hangared onboard a larger ship, most often out of necessity.
