You could have it so that after getting the power he wanted to do such good things with, he has a bit of a 'dark-side epiphany' that shatters his mind a bit and makes it seem like all the stuff he had been working for is pointless in the grand scheme of things. An "Every one dies eventually no matter what, so why even try?" kind of thing.

Was a decent guy before getting the power he wanted, but now is a bit of a nihilist who just does what he pleases with his now slightly twisted mentality. If you want him to still have an objective of sorts he could be trying to either get others to follow his example while a part of him still wants to be that person he used to be again, which just makes him hate himself and others even more. This drives him even further into the dark side, as he stews in his own hatred and madness.


I'm thinking Yoda from the original trilogy on Dagobah, but if he went to the darkside while going nuts there.

plus, you idea is beautiful and sounds great, but has a lot of build up. It isn't easy or even close to fast to become a master.
