Almost immediately after the first pod had landed the heavy enemy AA cannons turned onto the remaining pods which were still raining from the sky. Luckily, most the pods had hit the ground only moments after the first one, therefore avoiding most of the fire. The pods which weren't that lucky were made quick work of by the AA batteries. 42 pods were blown from the sky before they ever hit the ground; before the battle had even begun 252 soldiers had lost their lives. But there was no time to mourn their loss, besides they knew the risks, and there was a battle to win. The soldiers ploughed through the thick layer of snow that coated the landscape and began to close the distance between them and their enemies. The rocky and jagged terrain provided substantial cover for the advancing Republic forces.
Meanwhile the snipers would find their own cover to increase the efficiency of their killing. They would continue to hunt down and destroy the enemy mortar teams which were scattered around the valley floor. Their superior positions, compared to the forces below, meant that they rarely came under fire from the enemy, and if they did it would be unlikely to hit them effectively. Shot-by-shot, soldier-by-soldier, they would continue the hunt and killing of the mortar teams.
Enemy flak attempted to fire on the Valkyrie drop ships currently deploying the soldiers and tanks to the South. This attempt mostly ended in failure as a mountain blocked the majority of incoming fire. However, on approach one Valkyrie was hit and crashed into the snow covered mountainside. Most of the soldier inside remained inside, though the Skocha-class main battle tank was left on its back and useless to the assaulting force. Once the drop ships had deployed their full inventory of soldier, they would raise into the sky to return to the carrier in orbit. At this stage many of the Valkyries fell from the sky because of the persistent flak cannons.
The force of now 19 Skocha main battle tanks and 2,600 soldiers would soon reach the top of the mountain. From this positions they would be given a clear view of the battlefield and the tanks would be allowed to unload their proton cannons into the artillery and AA batteries. The proton cannons would continue to pummel the hostile emplacements as they continued they decent down the steep mountain. The soldiers were unable to shoot and fire effectively, and therefore chose to close the distance between them and the enemy instead.
