Red Ravens, One Sith, and other crap

The great thing about running a team of hotshot pilots is you don't need a full squadron to do anything. Two folks can run a group!
Maybe we can use you guys for some airstrikes or something!? :D

[member=Corvus Raaf] and just about anyone else who's been reading this, seeing as how I'm helping out with the Intel community, I'd love to run an Intelligence Dominion.
Maybe through that we could establish some minor (but helpful) advantages over the OS, for use in the event of an Invasion (I keep hearing things about them having some new stuff planned, which would be fantastic), etc.

Some key areas I was thinking about were:

--Military composition and movement
--Political espionage (not sure how effective that might be, all the OS politicians are Sith Lords, right? lol)
--Sabotage Events
--Assassinations
--Acquisition of their military designs so we know ahead of time how to counter things IC

Those would all be fun stuff! Assassinations I don't particularly care for, but I figured I'd chuck it on the list. The first and last ones I think would be the most fun, and the most useful for when IC stuff goes down.

[member="Uri Aureleos"]: Wouldn't it be fun if I were to sneak into an OS or RR's military base and laze a target for you to airstrike? :D
They can't have Anti-Aircraft turrets EVERYWHERE. lol

Generally it'd be more of a conversation along the lines of...

"Hey there,

I have an idea to help further the antagonism between OS and GR, I'd love to come cause some havoc and destruction in OS territory. The plan would be for me and some other spy/military/whathaveyou types come in and wreak havoc. You guys resist us, possibly ID us and chase us off after we do some destruction. No one dies, but we have the beginnings of an overture for IC war?"

Of course, you put in what you want to see happen and ask permission, what I wrote was just bantha poodoo I pulled out.

[member="Ali Hadrix"], there's a dominion team that you'd be more than welcome to join. We talk about a lot of the ideas you've touched upon, such as potential plot points, which worlds to take, etc. It's also how Dair Cotarin and I started the Padawan and NFU dominions respectively.

I think that some of the "areas" you mentioned with the OS might be better accomplished in a skirmish thread though, typically because in my experience we don't involve outside factions in dominions unless they are our own allies.

Dominion...yeah, I'm totally using the wrong term. My bad. I had the right IDEA, wrong execution.

Okay, so I got excited and joined the OS faction and put a discussion up asking them about it. Wasn't really sure how best to go about contacting them, so I figured I'd contact everyone. Now I feel like a butt, but I think that's okay. This is what I proposed to them:

"
Hey!

My character Ali runs with the Republic Intelligence Ministry and I wanted to get together with the OS (whom I've been told is the big nemesis of the Republic, which made a bunch of sense) and see if you guys wanted to run an Intelligence Dominion/Invasion/whatever with me and some of the other Intel folks!

Screw all those fleets and armies and crap, what a mess! I'm talking about some good old spying and murder and secrets and cocktails and casino's where the restaurants are in swimming pools so everyone gets to hang out and be nice and chill in the pool while they eat but there's no cannonballs allowed because that would just ruin everything!

If you didn't get it, the cannonballs were those fleets and armies I was talking about, always mucking stuff up.

I'm talking about stuff like this:

--Military design theft (stealing plans to each others' weapons so we kriff them up in a fight.

--Sabotage of military bases, starships, etc. (Who needs another cruiser to destroy a spaceship when you could have a spy blow it up from the inside!?)

--Interrogation of civilians/contractors/military personnel that are typically not Force Sensitive (NOT torture, which has been proven not to work anyhow)

--Other super shady s***

--Sabotage of supply lines (with space mines, all sorts of stuff!)

--Discovery of military movements, new promotions, collection of intel that builds dossiers on rival military leaders and personnel (we could each have threads dedicated to dossiers on each others' people! That'd be awesome, each post could be forever edited, and those "at the top of the hit list" could be moved up in posts. That'd be totes awesome)

--And hell, now I'm thinking about any CoD MW2 mission, where there's the murder of civilians, the stealing of military defense control systems, gunfights through crowded streets of backwater dump planets, spacestations, government sectors, etc.

--I've got more ideas

--And some more...

And of course:
--Assassinations (Boring, really, and overdone, but I know it would be expected to be on the list)

Now there's two things I am personally suggesting, just to make things (I THINK) a little better run:

1) Limit Force User involvement (Mainly because a lot of these stories are sapped of their substance by an overuse of Force Powers, or because they simply make things easy. I mean c'mon, who wants to use awesome spy equipment when you can just enhance your hearing with the Force?)

2) Random assignment of victors: I think this is an awesome way to let fate truly decide who wins out in the long run. We come up with ideas, pick the ones we want to do, and then basically flip a coin for each one to determine its outcome! :D

People can volunteer to have their character's survival decided the same way! OOooh, that sounds risky, maybe too much. But hey, volunteer basis, right? (I sure as hell ain't doing it, but there are some crazy folks out there)
Random assignment of victory and defeat spices things up I think, and it takes the responsibility of coming to a decision on all that unnecessary. It also eliminates anyone struggling a bit too hard not to lose and compromising the integrity of the RP.

SO!? What do you folks think? :D

Cheers and beers,

Ali Hadrix ;*

Skirmishes don't NEED the approval of FAs from either side - but if you're blowing stuff up, it tends to be a sensible option :)

And you can agree to attempt to blow stuff up and see what happens OR agree that stuff gets blown up in advance and the thread is simply to enjoy the RP to get you to that point. In fairness we regularly do this for the OS (think the Crusades, Darth Hauntruss' new ship development thread), so I'm sure they'd be up for something in return :)

And if you want to go for that Dominion, PM me, Dair, Gir, Sera and Kian and we can discuss it...I have a planet in mind.

Tyl Ro

The Anti(Hipster)-Cynic
This coming from the perspective of a character that is much more conservatively minded: there are more ways than just displays of aggression to show strength. As [member="Corvus Raaf"] said, we are one of the biggest factions member wise. Doing dominions, skirmishes, and invasions are all applicable uses of the strength of our members. However, simply throwing our weight around doesn't feel like an appropriate action for keepers of peace and administers of justice, rather like a school yard bully with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.

At war or not, sometimes the greatest ways to demonstrate the extent of what we are capable without drawing undue conflict are mass events. Think of medieval times and festivals. Festivals were held for the people, often in celebration of some achievement in harvest. But politically, they were designed to show other territories that: not only are we successful but we are not afraid of your might. The people, the government, even the military comes out in might to these events. Even if the latter are on guard, it displays that we don't budge.

Protecting ourselves and our interests proactively is important. But too much aggression for the sake of superiority might not be the best method. That would be Tyl's mindset anyway.

Sorry to double post, but just to be sure you read it...

The OS are just putting together their own Intelligence team, so this might actually help them get it set up - so hopefully they are willing to participate.

[member="Tyl Ro"]: I like your idea and the way you presented it, it just reminds me of every "ball or gala event" RP I've ever attended. They go strong while writers are introducing their characters on the red carpet, and then the RP dies about 5 days later, never to be picked up again until the next big ball or gala event. :/ That's just been my experience.
Now I'm sure you have something else in mind, but that's what it made me think of first.

[member="Corvus Raaf"]: There's a ton I could do with all this, thank you. I actually didn't know skirmishes didn't need permission. (What if they just don't want to write with you though! Then you look like a jackarse!...or something?)

On Dominions: I do think we should gobble up some of those random worlds just floating around. I can look over the map and make tactical suggestions on which planets might be the best to go for (besides the ones we're doing).

[member="Ali Hadrix"]

Keep in mind that tactical considerations need to kind of gel with rolepay cosiderations as well. Sometimes taking an oddball planet that has no real tactical value is still important to the RP aspect.

You're right, you need someone to oppose you - it's just that if you wanted to do a 3v3 fight where nothing gets blown up, you don't need FA approval - you just do it.

The only reason I recommend asking for approval is if you accidentally destroy defences that next week were needed for an Invasion!

There are three Republic Dominions currently ongoing that aren't complete. Any help would be appreciated I am sure

NFU Based http://starwarsrp.net/topic/55721-a-wretched-hive-of-scum-and-villainy-republic-dominion-of-terrijo/
Padawan Based http://starwarsrp.net/topic/55579-antar-the-dragon-republic-dominion-of-antar/
Knight/Master Based http://starwarsrp.net/topic/55987-on-unstable-ground-republic-dominion-of-mimban/

They need to get to 100 posts (No more than 20 Posts per WRITER) and should be considered decent quality. The first posts have objectives and suggestions for going about it, but this are suggestions you can do your own thing.
